of life in prison. jennifer hudson attended every day of the testimony. a sewage backup could keep an arlington grocery store closed for weeks. it is the harris teeter at jefferson davis highway. there are 2 to 3 inches of water throughout the store coming from restrooms that backed up and they say those floors will have to be replayed. harris teeter says the store will stay closed until further notice. a man who says he lives in that same building tell us the backups involve the plumbing and are not uncommon in that complex. police now on the lookout for two suspects connected to a brutal attack on a woman in fairfax, virginia. the victim says it was just after 1 a.m. when she was beaten, robbed and sexually assaulted in the area of merrifield. here's armando trull. >> reporter: this was the site that greeted some students, parents and staffers of the holly brook montessori school in the merrifield neighborhood of fairfax. detectives spent hours dusting

for fingerprints and looking for evidence ling two male suspects to this morning -- linking two male systems to this morning's attack. >> she was beaten by some type of blunt object to the point where she needed to be dawn to the hospital. in addition, she was sexually assaulted and robbed. >> reporter: after the vicious assault the severely beaten woman made her way out here onto the road and flagged down a passing motorist who called 911. police aren't identifying the 50-year-old victim, but she may be a homeless woman who sometimes sleeps under the school's portico. >> she doesn't seem to be completely in the right mind. i'm not a psychiatrist, but she seems to be somebody who is troubled and i know the pastor across the way has tried to get her into fairfax coordinated benefit. >> reporter: neighbors are understandably shocked.

>> it's very scary being right over less than a brock from here and it's always been such a safe neighborhood. >> i'm shocked and scared, definitely going to keep my doors locked until these two persons are caught because that's something that does not happen in this area. >> reporter: in fairfax armando trull, 9 news now. >> that victim still in the hospital being treated for those injuries. the teenager suspected in a series of hammer attacks in washington mentally incompetent to stand trial the ruling today for 19-year-old michael davis. a d.c. superior court judge issued that decision following the recommendations from a psychiatrist. davis is charged with the murder of a tourist from the denver area and several other attacks. they all happened over a three- day period less than a mile from his home in the petworth area. davis will be treated at a psychiatric hospital in hopes of restoring his competency. a lot of people hurt today when a metrobus had to make a sudden abrupt stop.

somebody cut right in front of the bus at eighth and east southeast. 17 passengers were treated for bumps and bruises. the nightmare is finally over for those two little girls from tennessee kidnapped from their home nearly two weeks ago. police say they were acting on a tip when they found alexandria and kyliyah bain in some woods last evening in mississippi. the man who abducted them adam mayes had taken his own life or did so as the agents were moving in. >> other agents moved in to rescue kyliyah and alexandria who were lying on the ground nearby. the girls were hungry, thirsty and dehydrated. >> after being evaluated the bain girls, 12 and 8 years old, are out of the hospital. meanwhile three more people have been arrested in connection with the case. one person is charged with making false statements, the other two illegal possession of a we. a grim report out -- a weapon. a grim report out of alabama where a teenager is

accused of killing his half sister by hanging her from a tree. the body of 9-year-old katelyn arnold was discovered last night in ragland alabama. the 14-year-old boy expect his half sister were living with his aunt and average l as part of a foss homer arrange -- uncle as part of a foster home arrangement. police caught the man who vandalized a chantilly mosque in january. the suspect? 18-year-old trent on carter. he's accused of vandalizing the ahmadiyya muslim community mosque in january. nearly every window was smashed or cracked. police are not calling the vandalism a hate crime, about the several bottles of alcohol were found at the screen. michelle obama delivered the commencement today at virginia tech. the first lady chose the school in blacksburg because of its resilience in the face of several violent incidents on campus. chief among them, the 2007 massacre leaving 33 people dead. >> when you all are out there in the world and you meet

[ cheering and applause ] >> michelle obama's appearance comes less than a week after she and president obama appeared at a rally in richmond to kick off his reelection campaign. virginia is considered a battleground state in this presidential election. a bicycle team riding in honor of fallen police officers is headed here, washington d.c. they stopped off for a rest today in ellicott city. it's part of a 275-mile journey. the 68 riders left valley forge, pennsylvania, wednesday. police officers from howard county are among that group and they expect to finish the ride and get here for police week in washington tomorrow. today maryland state police paid tribute to a trooper killed last year in the line of

here we go again with the gay marriage issue. you already know there's a lot of politics with that, but did you know there's also a lot of money? again with allison kocic. >> reporter: it's more than just a question of love or politics. the fact is that states which legalize gay marriage get a big boost to their economies. earlier this week president obama said he supports same sex marriage. if more states make it legal, we could have a wedding boom on her hands. according to numbers compiled by ucla, there are close to 650,000 same sex couples in the u.s., but so far only a

fraction have walked down the aisle. couples both gay and straight spend about $27,000 on average on their big day and if more gay couples are given the opportunity to book venues, order wedding cakes and pay for marriage licenses, the $74 billion wedding industry could get a real jolt. so far only seven states have legalized same sex marriage and their economies have reaping the benefits. the move added about $110 million to the massachusetts economy in its first five years and new york is expecting even more than that in just the first three years. so from a purely economic standpoint experts say that any state that gives gay couples the okay to marry can expect a windfall. i'm allison kocic in new york. is that thank you. in our mailbag don't reaction on the wusa9 facebook page -- tonight reaction on the wusa9 facebook page reaction to president obama mentioning his
