unless her life was at risk. that's something the majority of the medical community says simply isn't true. former d.c. councilman harry thomas jr. will serve his time in the federal prison camp in montgomery, alabama. the former ward five councilman will have to report there june 20th. thomas will spend 38 months behind bars for stealing more than $350,000 meant to go to city youth sports programs. an officer in prince william is facing charges. investigators say ralph justice plotted of the another man arrested and thrown in jail where he would be subject to a sexual assault. we're told justice, a jailer was working with another man named michael r ussenack. both men are now in jail. last year's helicopter crash which killed two marines was the result of a bird scribe.

an investigation says the helicopter collided with a red tailed talk that had a -- hawk that had a wingspan of only about four feet. vibrations in the main rotor caused the rotor and the top of the transmission to separate from the aircraft. it fell into three pieces on ground and the wreckage ignited a brush fire that ended up burning more than 320 acres. gop candidate mitt romney is condemning efforts to use president obama's former adviser, jeremiah wright in ads attacking the president. the republican superpac considered running ads linking obama to his former pastor and as you may remember his sermons became a hot button issue in the 2008 presidential election. florida officials are releasing more information in the murder of teenager trayvon martin. the evidence includes images which seem to lend more correct to george zimmerman's side of

the story. >> ken molestina has more from the prosecutors which includes interviews and pictures. >> reporter: these are the last known images of trayvon martin alive. he's seen as a convenience store boying candy and a drink. 20 minutes later he'd be dead. it's only part of what was released thursday. also made public crime scene photos as well as the gun. but it's these images of beaten george zimmerman that has everyone talking. for the first time, there seems to be proof of the claims zimmerman originally made. his nose looks to be broken, eyes bruised and scratches on the face. then there's the cut to the back of his bloodied head. the autopsy report on trayvon martin shows the gunshot wound in his chest with gun powder residue. suggesting the two were no more than 18-inches apart. the report also details a bruise on martin's eye and small scars on both hands. there are also details about witnesses. one said he saw a black male wearing a dark colored hoodie

on top of a white or hispanic male who was yelling for help. then heard the pop of a gunshot. i'm ken molestina, 9news now. >> the autopsy report also showed that martin had traces of marijuana in his system. the fbi has been analyzing the 911 phone call and still can't determine who it was on the tape yelling for help. at 4:34, here's a look at some other things making news now. today, jurors in the john edwards trial will begin deliberating the charge against the former presidential candidate. hearing closing arguments prosecutors told them edwards broke campaign laws in his effort to cover up a sex scandal. investigators in mississippi are questioning a man named james lucas. he's been taken into custody suspected of driving around in a mercury marquee which used to be a police car and pulling

people over. local police and federal officials want to know the lucas has anything to do with two recent highway shootings which left both drivers dead along the side of the road. vermont is now the first state in the country to ban fracking. fracking is that controversial practice used to extract natural gas from the ground. the governor of the state said tracking contaminates -- fracking contaminates ground water but supporters say it's provided thousands of jobs. she spent many weeks at the top of the charts in the disco era of the 1970s. donna summer lost her lengthy battle with cancer yesterday. some of her biggest hits "the last dance" and "bad girl." she was 63 years old. the olympic torch is head

general market at $38 a sharement it will trade under the symbol fb on the nasdaq. the offering value is facebook around $100 billion makes it one of the biggest ipos ever and there's enormous demand for the stock and also concerns about the facebook has a solid enough profit strategy. we will have to see if it ripples into the rest of the stock market. it has been a bad week. the nasdaq or rather the dow starts this morning at -- hewlett-packard is considering a round of deep layoffs. the computer company struggled to cut costs and raise profits. publishes reported say it could slash 8% of the work force or as much as 25,000 jobs. lawmakers would like to know more about the huge trading blunder at jp morgan

chase. they are inviting jamie dimon to testify. they are discussing wall street reform and should hear directly from dimon about the $2 billion loss. more passengers are finding ways to get around airline baggage fees. revenues from the extra charges dropped last year even though the toe that will number of passengers went up. that means travelers are packing light to avoid the fees and i guess in a way that's doing us a favor because we're not bringing five bags with us. two bags with shoes. >> we're not going on fair weather charging for this bags in the overhead bin. >> that's right. >> what are they going to do now, charge for oxygen next? >> talking about facebook and you know it's now on top but a lot of people are saying it's really overvalued? >> a lot of people are. i mean the pe ratio is 65/70 in that range. normal people look at stock investors, stock pickers try to find 15, 20 pe ratios. it's very, very high in terms of the price to earnings. >> wow.

accident. it's out in bowie. route 197 at route 50. john hanson highway. now it's been there for about an hour. lanes are blocked we're working the phones to figure out what's going on there. and what you need to know about it. route 50 apparently is not affected coming in from bowie as you head for the beltway and cheverly. a live look outside right now, and here's what it looks like on 270 at father hurley boulevard. we're fine here coming in from jermantown down to the point where the lanes divide. all lanes are open even on the beltway west side of town. back to the maps this time to the west side. in problems on the dulles -- no problems on the dulles toll road or 66 from manassas to centerville or stirling to fairfax, going to be just fine. a live look at the 14th street bridge, the length of 395 heading to the point into downtown all lanes are open. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at 95 in virginia at 4:55. metro riders -- metro is finishing work on the orange

line. it's so used to expecting delays this weekend. because of the track work. from tonight at 10:00 until closing on sunday no trains will run between the east falls church and west falls church stations. metro will provide shuttle buses between the two stops. allow at least an extra 20 minutes for their trip. you sounded just like monika in that. metro is finishing up work at the foggy bottom station. they replaced all three escalators and added a staircase and put a canopy over the only entrance. it's the first replacement project in more than a decade. metro hopes to use foggy bottom as an example of its ambitious plan to replace dozens of escalators over the next six years. new numbers show that a major change in the makeup of the american melting pot. >> as danielle nottingham reports, children born to traditional minority ethnic groups are now the majority in the u.s.. >> reporter: when he reaches

his 40s, justin will likely be part of the new majority. for the first time in u.s. history, the births of hispanic, black, asian american and members of other minority groups outnumber that of whites. the reason? there are more minority women in their childbearing years. women like raquel. >> it makes me feel way better because he'll be more confidentable. >> reporter: minorities made up 54.4% of all births between july 2010 and july 2011. that's up from 37% in 1990. mark of the population reference bureau says it's the type of diversity people 65 and older are not used to. >> these policymakers most of them are older and white, well they support programs that support this new generation of views? that doesn't really look much like them. >> reporter: here in washington, d.c., minorities already peak up more than 50%

of the overall population. the same is true in hawaii, california, new mexico, and texas. the census numbers also show a slowdown in latino immigration. >> well, we think it's all linked to the recession. those types of jobs that tend to attract migrant workers have kind of gone away. >> reporter: the immigration decline may delay the date when the overall u.s. population shifts from a white majority to a racial and ethnic majority. population forecasters now say it will happen around 2050. danielle nottingham, cbs news, washington. >> those newly released census numbers also shows the population of maine has the oldest median age while texas and utah have the youngest. when you eat may be just as important as what you eat. when it comes to preventing obesity and diabetes. scientists at the salk institute in california found that regular eating times may override the adverse effects of a high fat diet. researchers tested mice and found those limited to eating
