to prison. >> sulaimon brown, a minor candidate for mayor had claimed he was promised a job in the gray administration and his campaign had been given money orders to help him stay in the race to criticize the incumbent during public debates. >> first of all, we never authorized any of that. >> brown got the job, but was fired. >> vincent gray's campaign, specifically mayor vincent gray gave money orders to maintain, cover living expenses and attack fenty during the 2010 mayoral race. >> they need to be held accountable. >> criminal information document, thomas w. gore, gray's assistant campaign treasurer is charged with using candidate a's campaign funds to purchase money orders that were then donated to candidate b's campaign. using somebody else's name. sources say candidate a is gray and candidate b is sulaimon brown. there are three money orders,

totaling $535. one felony charge accuses thomas gore of trying to obstruct the investigation by destroying the notebook containing records of the payments to brown. now, we have been unable to contact thomas gore, his attorney had no comment and as you say, thomas gore is due in court tomorrow as part of a plea bargain agreement. we also haven't been able to reach mayor vincent gray. >> when he comes back, he'll face a lot of questions. is there a sense there are more plea deals to come? >> pretty sure of this. i mean, everybody is lawyered up and we have been talking to lawyers and to other sources. there are other plea deals in the works and it's a matter of time. this is the beginning. not even the close to the end. >> a stunning development. bruce johnson, thank you. >> d.c. councilman, marion barry is out of a las vegas

hospital tonight. he was treated for blood clots that were found after a flight from memphis. barry sent a series of tweets about this whole situation overnight. he says taking blood thinner, i thank god it was caught. i also thank outstanding medical staff, including kind professional phil apino staff. being sick brings religion as much as i need to fight for the need of my community, i certainly don't want to offend or hurt anyone in the process. he was referring to comments about local hospitals hiring nurses instead of d.c. residents. now we just spoke with him about this moments ago. >> it was a -- in my groin area, and he recommend for dna and take some medicine that is in my blood. but i'm fine physically. psychologically, i'm fine. >> would you ever bring any danger? >> no.

no immediate danger. >> now that is good. but the condition that put marion barry in the hospital is called deep train thrombosis. it can be deadly if untreated. in a deep vein in the lower leg. if part of that clot breaks free and goes up. symptoms to watch out for include pain, tenderness, sp swelling of the affected portion of the leg. now one of the biggest risks is a period of long travel, like being on an airplane where the legs aren't in motion. once the clot is found, it can be treated with a blood thinning medication, which is what marion barry is getting. >> problems in the city today after a bus caught fire. it happened inside the 3rd street tunnel near the capital and as we hear from bruce leshan, it started with a boom so loud, some witnesses thought it was a terror attack.

just out of the hospital. one of those capital police officers tells me by phone that it was pitch black in there. so smoky, that you literally could not see your hand in front of your face. he says there was no way he was leaving without getting everybody out safely. >> we could not have -- the bus could explode at any moment. >> police finally let the drivers back down to get their vehicles. all of them were okay. after a couple of hours cleaning up the mess, ddot reopened the tunnel. in d.c., bruce leshan, 9news now. >> this is interesting, authorities suspected somebody may have failed to release the brakes while it was being towed and that may have been what started that fire. 9ments you to know about the problem of teen drinking and today, the owner of a local store, where we caught teens buying alcohol on camera was in court. richard kim owns town square

market in northwest d.c. he faces charges of selling alcohol to a minor. testified today said he bought 30 cans of beers and vodka at the store using another person's expired driver's license. defense attorneys say police didn't test the cans, there's no way to know it was actually alcohol. a judge is expected to issue her ruling in the bench trial tomorrow. nato leaders wrapped up their meetings in chicago today by talking about wrapping up the war in afghanistan. but their deadline to have afghan security forces doesn't seem soon enough for the protesters marching through the streets of the windy city. >> world leaders are reassuring afghan president that despite plans for a withdrawal, there are no plans for nato companies to abandon the afghan people. >> from 2015, we expect to maintain a nato led presence to train, advice, and assist the

afghan security forces. >> one of the major points to be worked out is funding the afghan troop buildup and long- term support. while representatives are driven by a mission for lasting peace, the backdrop to the meeting has been anything but peaceful. demonstrators clashed with police on sunday, protesters and police were among the injured. the chicago police department defended the use of force against the crowds. >> asking people to put themselveses in harms way, knowing that they are going to get assaulted and be able to take it, these guys were amazed. >> protesters were not deterred. they were back out on monday, but so far, demonstrations remained peaceful. i'm carl reporting. coming up tonight at 7:00 on 9news, traffic tickets and taxes, two things nobody likes. now, d.c. proposed a way of using one to get you to pay the other. we'll tell you all about it. >> okay, derek. still to come in this half hour

surfacing near an observation platform below. it took the crews two hours to rescue him. he has been treated for his injuries tonight. the supreme court has refused to take up an appeal by joel. the boston university graduate was ordered to pay $675,000 for illegally down loading and sharing 30 songs on the internet. now he calls the penalty crazy. a federal judge will step in and lower that penalty. >> an unnamed buyer paid more than $90 million for penthouse in manhattan. it has two floors at a tower under construction on west 57th street and the sales price sets a single record for a resident in manhattan. that penthouse has 20-foot ceilings, italian marble. custom hardware and panoramic views of new york. >> the view may be the best part. still ahead tonight, 12 law

he hopes this move urges blacks to head to the polls in maryland this november. >> i'm scott broom in baltimore where today the nation's leading civil rights organization endorsed gay marriage. benjamin taking a moment to collect himself because as it turns out, the issue of marriage equality touches him to the core. these are jealous' parents, an interracial couple who had to leave maryland to get married in 1966 because race mixing was illegal. >> my parents own marriage was against the law at the time. and they had to return here to baltimore after getting married in washington, d.c. >> we have always stood against laws which demean, dehumanize, or dediscriminate against any person in this great country. >> they are not speaking for everybody. they are not the same naacp of years ago. >> i think clergy like derek mccloy remain unmoved.

>> this is one of the places where they are out of step with culture. >> scott broom, 9news now. only on 9 tonight, a kitten thrown from a moving vehicle and left to die on the side of the road. a viewer alerted us on twitter about this case of animal abuse. now as kristin fisher reports, that viewer used social media to help save that kitten's life. carrie has known this kitten for less than a week and yet, she and her sister have already saved its life twice. first, they rescued it from the middle of this road, route 7 in tyson's corner. >> pulled out in front of the kitten, put her emergency brakes on, and stopped three lanes of traffic to get to her. >> they had to save her from being youthized. it's a tough thing to do for a kitten who has a broken pelvis. >> it was unusually bad and that she would die without surgery and she might die anyways. >> the surgery would have cost thousands. money carry carrie didn't

have. finally, she signed up. a website that lets the community contribute to a cause. in three days, she raised $900. >> i was shocked that people would just want to help, you know, a little kitten like this. >> one more vet appointment today and the vet said that because recovery is going so well, she no longer needs surgery. they're going to let her bones fuse back together. it means she'll likely always walk with a limp, but she's expected to survive. >> i think when you look at it, you see a story that we can all relate to of something being abused and wanting to help and it's not right and whether it's a person you know or a little child, everybody knows that's not right. >> and kristen tells us for all of the people who donated to jade's surgery, carrie says they will be refunded or their money will go to one of the

organizations that help to save jade's life. what a story. >> $900 in just a few days. >> all right, we are looking at some showers coming through. it's humid. is it messing up your hair yet? >> oh yeah. >> that's going to continue. it looks like we're going to see more showers. we need it though. our lawns and our gardens like it. maybe not so much the hair. but we'll take it because we really do need it out there. here's a look at our michael and son weather camera. we are starting to see some peeks of blue sky. it was gray and gloomy day today. temperature now 75, mostly cloudy. winds are south, southwest at 6 miles per hour. the doppler is picking up some light green activity, which means we see light rain out there. maybe a little heavier cell just south, just north of fredericksburg. we see the yellow and also just north of leesburg where we see some little reds and yellows there. that may be having little areas

of downpours. overall, it's been fairly light for most of today and you can see it's not widespread. so the heavier mountains are out to the south and west where you see some lightning strikes associated with those storm systems going through. we have on shore flow coming this way, giving us those really moist and also humid conditions out there. 75 in downtown. 68 in manassas. 66 in martinsburg. lower 70s for orange and annapolis, you're at 74 degrees. all right, so we have unsettled conditions the next few days and it will be humid. showers and a couple storms possible tonight. areas of fog tuesday morning because of that on shore flow, more showers for tuesday afternoon and we're unsettled again for wednesday. the 9 future cast showing scattered showers for tonight and overnight, make it a break. tomorrow morning, not as wet. you can see widespread for the evening commute and it's going to be warmer tomorrow as well and the humidity not getting much break. wednesday also looking to be

>> welcome back. we are live at redskins park. theburg di the burgundy and gold getting their first ota's underway. the first time for rg3 to play with the big boys. if you remember back in rookie camp. he impressed mike shanahan with his lack of mental mistake. rg3 admitted he felt more pressure working with the veterans, feeling like he needed to show them why the coaches are so high on him and gave up so much to get him. in the end, everyone seemed pleased with his first go round. >> the workout was good, you know, i was talking with guys in the locker room who had good command of the offense. knew what i was doing, knew where to go and i could play football and let loose. >> 1 00% accountable for the job he has. i hi moving forward he knows what's on his shoulders and looking forward to it. i think he is looking forward to being a great football player. >> and thanks to today's dreary weather, the redskins got a chance to christen their new
