i think we may get some midday breaks which could lead to more showers and storms this afternoon. last night we had some 3, 4- inch rain totalses that caused flooding for a little while. flood warnings have all expired. there they were last night over us. you can see it sort of moved to the east and weakened. this morning we have some stuff down across areas in st. mary's county. locally not too much going on. maybe some drizzle is what we're seeing scattered about the metro. 60s going up into the upper 70s. monika santami coming in now. time saver traffic at 6:00 a.m. 95 south is bad with a fatality. any other issues? we have road closures and sinkholes. i'm going to start off with a deadly accident that happened about an hour and a half ago on the southbound side of i-95. state police have been on the scene ever since with cleanup and veg. only the right lane is getting by. let's take you there live. southbound on i-95.

with that activity ongoing, you will expect to find delays even though it's against the rush hour flow. southbound side of i-95. there was an accident in the backup as well involving a truck on the northbound side the lanes have remained open although you may find a bit of a gawkers block on the northbound side. lanes open heading past the accident and up toward woodbridge on the northbound side of i-95. we'll keep you posted on this situation here. let's go back over to our graphics. there have been a lot of road closures in prince william county because of flooding conditions. in fact, here's a long list. i'm just going to tell you the major roadways, aden, nokesville, needwood, wellington. i wanted to end with good news. looks great at route 121 heading to germantown to the point where the lanes divide.

an aide to vincent gray's mayoral campaign is due in court this morning. thomas gore is facing term charges for destroying records and making illegal campaign contributions. >> we expect him to plead guilty to those charges and that plea is happening today. delia goncalves is live outside the wilson building. she has a preview. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning. many observers say that this plea deal is just the first shoe to drop in a federal investigation that is likely to affect a number of people in the wilson building and in the gray administration. thomas gore, gray's close friend and former campaign aide faces up to 20 years behind bars but he's likely to serve far less time because of his cooperation with investigators. gore will admit later today to paying off french mayoral candidate sulaimon brown and then destroying records that proved it. >> vincent gray's campaign specifically mayor vincent gray gave me cash and money orders

wilson building this morning. d.c. councilman marry barry is -- marion barry is out of a las vegas hospital. he ended up there this weekend with a blood clot. this is file video of the former mayor. he developed the clot while traveling to las vegas for a conference. doctors put him on blood thinners and told him to get some exercise. he said he wanted to thank the outstanding medical staff including piendz kind, professional filipino staff. you will remember last month he got in trouble for criticizing nurses who come from the philippines saying they are taking jobs that could go to d.c. residents with the proper training. three agents are caught up in yet another prs institution scanned -- prostitution scandal in colombia. they hired prostitutes in colombia at the same time secret service agents did. but they say the two incidents

are not related. itself men implicated are now being questioned. senate hearings on the secret service scandal start tomorrow. today marks one year since the deadliest single tornado in u.s. history. 161 people died when the storm hit joplin, missouri. president obama spoke last night at the high school graduation. he told the graduates they had to grow up early. >> here in joplin you also learned that we have the power to grow from these experiences. we can define our lives not by what happens to us but by how we respond. we can choose to carry on. we can choose to make a difference in the word. >> the tornado leveled joplin's high school. students took classes this year at a converted shopping mall. the naacp announced its

here are some websites that can jump start your plans for budgeting and planning. we're checking out hellowallet.cosm. they pull the information from all of your bank accounts, loans. the tools keep you honest about how much you're spending and on what things. money central, another example of these. some of these types of sites are free like mint. some are them are not. another advantage of using the web tools comes when you set up a budget. they track your ongoing spending. if you're near the limit of your budget, the program will send you a text message keeping you honest yet again. you can also make your bank account work harder now. bank of america, citibank are helping budgets by importing accounts from other institutions. then you can use your online bank account to track things like your mortgage and student liens. you can also get teks or e- mails if you're close to

nato leaders pledged to end the combat mission in afghanistan by the end of 2014. but they will stay there longer in a support role for afghan troops. president obama met with both afghan and pakistani lead erstwhile at the summit. the nato agreement will reportedly lead to u.s. ambassador to afghanistan stepping down. cbs news is reporting ryan crocker will leave his both at -- his post at some point. conflicting information over the psa prostrate cancer screening. men have been told for years to get them every one or two years but a new panel finds the psa test unreliable giving false positives 80% of the time. the american urological association calls the panel report irresponsible. 6:13. the at&t national golf tournament returns to congressional country club next month but we got a head start

with notify -- maybe 80 with some breaks. heavy rains overnight out to our west, prince william, fauquier, loudoun counties had flood warnings. those have all expired. we're seeing the drizzle starting to show up. charles town from lynn got a light shower going on there. scattered light stuff in southern maryland. all these really areas of light rain spotty drizzle in many areas. our temperatures low to mid- 60s. 64 hagerstown, gaithersburg. winchester 63 along with easton. looking outside on our michael & son weather camera, cloudy skies. 66 degrees. east, northeast winds at 7 and humanity way high. for us -- humidity way high. for us we see the showers. once we heat it up later today, we'll see more of that develop scattered across the region. temperatures will climb into the upper 70s late.

it's going to be muggy. a few evening showers. quieter overnight. 08 tomorrow. the threat for afternoon showers and storms. thursday low 80s with mainly the threat for the afternoon showers or storms. friday mid-80s with an isolated storm. let's turn it up to around 90 saturday, sunday and memorial day with isolated p.m. storms. let's go to monika santami. virginia state police continue their dozens investigation and cleanup. this accident involved a single vehicle. it happened at 4:30 this morning and ended in one fatality on the southbound side of i-95 right after dale city. i'll take you there live. you'll see only the single right lane is getting through there on our traffic lamb camera on the southbound side of ien when 95 if we can switch to that. again been there since about 6:30 this morning. there are delays on the southbound side. be aware of that. northbound the lanes have remained open although i'm sure a lot of people are looking over to see what's going on

northbound 95 lanes are open approaching dale city. here's the accident right here. again the investigation continues. only the right lane getting through. we'll take you a little further north. northbound 95 in springfield is normal. no problems as you head up to 395. it's going to be slow in landmark. back over to a graphic. one thing i want to let you know, there were a lot of road closures because of flooding in prince william county. i have a whole list there. also just got word of a new sinkhole on fleetwood at slate view road. there are several examples of sinkholes as well in -- as well in prince william county. i'll have more coming up in my next report. first, i do have a commuter alert and some good news when it comes to traffic congestion in our region. there is a new study out by a group that says we have sixth

worst congestion in the country but in fourth place a year ago. that's better. last month the average d.c. driver wasted two hours 48 minutes in traffic, not when you work these hours. that's down 54 minutes from one year ago and down more than two hours from two years ago, guys. the study found tuesday is the worst for the morning commute. around here friday is the worst evening commute. have you ever driven in tysons at ak on friday. don't do -- at 5:00 on friday? don't do it. the cities with the most job growth had the most traffic. that includes tampa, miami, houston. without funding, there's obviously been less congestion and that mines not as much

good morning. 6:29. the drizzle has shut off for the moment. here's a look at our day planner. drizzle around of the we're seeing a couple of breaks on our camera after to the east. i'm confident we'll see a couple of sunny breaks today. low 70s by noon with highs in the upper 70s but the more sun we see, the better chance we'll see showers and storms develop. like last night we could get heavy downpours in spots. the radar is quieting down as the last of the showers really going through st. mary's county and northern neck. we have a lot of spotty drizzle across the area. you see the light green areas scattered about on live doppler 9000 hd. a little drizzle. temperatures running in the low to mid-60s going into the 70s. wet streets, heavy rains overnight. we've had all sorts of problems

on the roads. here's monika santami. there are two separate accidents affecting i-95 southbound as you approach dale city and beyond. i'm going to show you what it looks like on a map first on the southbound side. the first accident involves a single vehicle and a fatality just after dale city. only the right lane is going through. let's go to that live first on the southbound side of 95. this activity has been here since 4:30 this morning with the investigation and the cleanup. there's been a long backup on the southbound side. you are not used to that. and in the backup another accident. this one involves a truck as well. it happened again in the backup along the right side of the road. so a real mess on the southbound side of i-95 as you can see with two spat incidents after -- separate incidents after dale city and heading southbound. northbound you can see all lanes are open. it is not affecting your ride. you just have your normal slow traffic there. let's go back over to our maps. there's another incident on the northbound side of 395 as you

when gray was a council member and council claimman so he's been with gray -- chairman so he's been with gray for a very long time both personally and professionally. he's accused of writing money orders in other people's names and giving them to sulaimon brown so brown would attack mayor adrian fenty in the then 2010 campaign. this is a first real below to an administration that has -- blow to an administration that has been plagued with scandal since the beginning. >> our city is certainly under an ethical cloud and with the closing of the tommy thomas chapter, the book is still being written and we're on the next chapter. and so i do believe that we're going to have other charges, other people, and, you know, we are going to have to do our best to be sure that the business of the city is getting done and that certainly my

it's 6:43 and 66 degrees. monika here with your time saver traffic. we've been telling you about a couple of situations on the southbound side of i-95 since 4:30 this morning. first of all a deadly crash on the southbound side after dale city involving a single vehicle. we'll go to that picture live first where authorities are still on the scene doing their investigation and cleanup. only the right side of the road is getting by. this is the southbound side of i-95. in the backup a second accident and this happened a while ago

as well involving a tractor- trailer on the southbound side of i-95. just north of the rest area and crews are on the scene here as well with only one lane getting by. left lane getting by here. so it's a bit of a zig-zag pattern on the southbound side of 95. stay to the left and then stay to the right to get around all that activity. unusual delays there. live on the northbound side of 395, this backup is due to a tree down up ahead near king deceit that was block -- king street that was blocking the two right lanes. it now looks like traffic is getting through. we had quite a few road closures due to flooding in prince william county on nokesville road and aden and wellington and valley view and old church road. we got a call from prince william county schools that buses may be running late due to the road closures so keep that in mind and definitely try and check into that. prince william county schools a possibility of the buses running late this morning. we'll end with a live picture
