more heavy rains overnight. now they're dealing with a lot of high water and closures. monika will have more on that in a moment. our day planner, we're expecting another day not too much different than the last couple of days. dying showers. somewhat of a break into midday. i expect more showers and storms to be popping in spots this afternoon and this evening. 75 by noon. a little muggy with highs around the 80-degree mark. we're looking at the showers and storms from last night. this goes back six hours. you see how we have them and over the last hour or two, things are just kind of falling apart although down toward the northern neck, we have some showers that have popped there. locally everything is weakening now as it approaches washington. i don't think this will be around but another hour or so. flood warnings till 10:00 a.m. for some high water. got some road closures in manassas, manassas park and central prince william county. visibility is a little bit after problem. temperatures running in the 60s. a quarter mile for martinsburg, west virginia. oakland, a half mile in

cambridge and prince frederick. monika santami is in now with more on some of the road closures to our west. we've got high standing water, flooding in the area and even a sinkhole. it's on trenton court at valley view out in prince william county. so you want to be aware of also high standing water horn baker at smokes vail. carriage ford at a -- nokesville. carriage ford at aden. give yourself extra time all south of i-66 mainly is what we're talking about. 66 itself hasn't been a problem coming in from manassas into centreville toward fairfax and the beltway. the beltway right now most of your construction is cleared up. outside live right now, here's what it looks like at the american legion bridge. west side of town you should be okay heading toward tysons and annandale. a quick look at the maps all the way to the north side. looking good on the bw parkway and route 50 heading to dheferly and the northeast core -- cheverly and the northeast corridor. another look at area roads at 5:10. if you were with us

yesterday morning at this time, we were reporting about flooding problems developing throughout our area in the fairfax county region. >> this morning more rain falling in the same area. the system just parked and is causing some serious issues. delia goncalves is in bristow, virginia checking out things now. what does it look like, delia? >> reporter: you know, thankfully a good sign. things are pretty dry here in bristow at the vre, the commuter train. we see lots of folks heading over to the train, washing over to get their commute into washington, d.c. thankfully the ground and the -- the ground is drying out but very different story yesterday when it was a very volatile situation for lots of folks here in prince william county and even that situation caused some evacuations. that's because lake jackson dam swelled six and a half feet above normal levels. some residents in neighboring low-lying homes were absolutely stranded while other respect

againsts -- other residents had to be rescued from their vehicles when they tried to cross some high water on roads. the rain also caused some sinkholes. certainly a devastating situation for 24 hours or so in the prince william county area. and that had residents on edge. let's hear what they had to say. >> this is the the highest i've seen it since i lived here for about 18 years. i just hope it holds. >> it's down on the other side here. there's a lot of houses that sit much lower. >> it was pretty crazy. kind of scary. >> reporter: fortunately no injuries were reported here in the county. we're also told that fire officials had two rescue boats on standby throughout the night just in case folks needed to be rescued in an emergency fashion from their homes. no word if that had to be used. but we'll tell you what else county officials did to keep residents safe over this pretty sol toll 24 hour period.

we'll have that coming up at 5:30. >> delia goncalves reporting live from bristow, virginia. rescuers scrambled to the rosecroft raceway last night. three drivers were injured. seven horses got tangled up on the track and two of the three injured drivers were flown by helicopter to area hospitals. however, none of their injuries is believed to be life- threatening. the manager of track operations says none of the horses was injured. he's the maryland man at the center of a missing person case in aruba. now gary giordano from gaithersburg is charged with indecent exposure. he was held for weeks in aruba last year while police investigated the disappearance of his vacationing companion. he was not charged in that case. the police report says they found giordano and a woman naked in his suv. it happened last friday in a

parking lot in annapolis. a judge has found richard kim guilty of selling alcohol to a minor. kim owns the town square market on mccar thursday boulevard in northwest d.c. 9news now had been investigating that place since december. we witnessed dozens of alcohol purchases made by teenagers who said they were as young as 14. kim is going to be sentenced next month. he destroyed evidence and lied to federal investigators. now a former campaign aide to d.c. mayor gray is facing at least a year in prison. thomas gore admitted in court yesterday he illegally diverted gray campaign fines to sulaimon brown so brown would launch political attacks on incumbent mayor adrian fenty during the 2010 campaign. fenty went on to lose to gray. time for the latest your money report. >> jessica doyle is here with today's headlines and it's all about greece still. >> looking like it's going to be another down day, potentially for wall street if

things don't change. asian and european markets have already headed lower today. as for wall street we saw an early rally fizzle by the closing bell, better than expected home sales sent stocks higher but they reversed later in the session on news greece is considering dumping out of the euro. the dow stands this morning at 12,502, dipped about a point and a half by the close. the nasdaq was down by almost -- or rather over eight points and the s&p 500 was up by half a point. the c.e.o. of jpmorgan chase says he was misinformed about the scale of losses piling up in the bank's london office. last month jamie dimon had dismissed up vestor concerns about the risky trades -- investor concerns about the risky trades. >> i obviously didn't know because i never would have said that the reason we became public because we wanted to tell you we were wrong four weeks ago.

the securities and exchange commission is one of three federal agencies investigating the bank. yesterday on capitol hill, scc chairwoman told law make e the investigation is focused on whether the company was truthful with stockholders and regulators. the loss first put at $2 billion climbing to more than $3 billion and possibly as high as $6 billion. sometimes you read a crime story and say what if this level of effort was put into a legitimate project. here are the allegations. california law enforcement say a vice president at a silicon valley software company orchestrate add complicated scam replacing barcodes on lego sets at various target stores. then he allegedly bought the toys at a steep discount and sold them online for thousands of dollars. thomas leganbach faces five years in prison if convicted. some of the barcodes provided a discount of just ten bucks while others gave him $100. eight a lot of work.

it is 5:10 on this wednesday morning. we have a few lingering source, especially on the west side but it's waning. like the last couple of days looks like once again we'll be seeing a break and more showers and storms later this afternoon into the evening. some of those could be on the heavy side. we start with temps in the 60s. we'll be mid-70s by noon. a few sunny breaks but the scattered showers and storms, ies around 80. -- highs around 80. let's go to monika santami with time saver traffic. on the northbound side of i- 95, an accident, this one just

reported involving two vehicles, a dump truck and a vehicle. one right lane is blocked northbound 95 at dale boulevard. i'll have more on that coming up in my next report at 5:18. making news now at 5:11, a u.s. airways flight from paris, france to charlotte, north carolina was diverted to maine yesterday. a female passenger handed crew members a note saying she had a surgically implanted device. she also had no checked baggage raising security concerns. the woman did not have a bomb and passengers eventually got to charlotte. still no sign on when the jurors will reach a verdict in the trial of former presidential candidate john edwards. as you may remember, he is charged with illegally using funds from his 2008 campaign to conceal his mistress and their child. today the jury starts its fourth day of deliberations. mitt romney could secure the republican presidential nomination next week when texas holds its primary. romney swept the primaries in arkansas and kentucky

good morning. welcome back to 9news now. did you miss howard? >> i did. he's back. we do weather first around here. that's what we do. >> the showers that have been falling across areas in southern montgomery county coming out of fairfax. they have another half-hour or so they're weakening quickly. then we'll dry out for a while. then we've got to watch out because once again like the last couple of days, we'll see showers and storms develop with the daytime heating. today maybe toward the 08- degree mark. yesterday we squeezed up to 81 with a little bit of sunshine. here's a look at your bus stop forecast. another muggy morning. we've got some patchy dense fog in spots. got a little drizzle and a couple of isolated showers now that are out there. temps in the 60s. most folks are not seeing the rain, though, so keep that in mind. we are looking at sunrise this morning 5:49. not expecting a lot of sun early but some sun later midday

into the afternoon. that will help boost temps in the upper 70s to around 08 with the best chance of showers late afternoon to evening hours. yesterday they formed to the west and worked their way east at night. we may see a repeat of that. still dealing with high water across prince william county and toward manassas, manassas park where we have a flood warning till 10:00. monika will be -- will be by and tell you about some road conditions. heavy rains over the same areas that had 2 to 4-inch totals two nights ago. last night another inch in spots that was enough to tip the water levels on the high side. you can see this morning things are really weakening, a few showers, new ones have formed toward the northern neck. locally on doppler 9000 hd, gaithersburg 270 back toward potomac and great falls, mclean, bethesda some light showers almost down toward annandale andburg but this stuff is weakening rather quickly. your temps as you get ready to

go out are in the 60s. leesburg is down to 61. haymarket is 62. we've got 65 for fort belvoir. alexandria 66 this morning. one of our warmer spots with 64 at baden, crofton and columbia. again mostly cloudy skies out there. not a bad looking morning, although national at 5:00 we're supporting light sprinkles, 67 degrees with a north wind at 10 miles an hour. the humidity still up there. so it's still kind of muggy and will be today. lots of showers coming across the northern part of the country. in fact, heavy thunderstorms in minnesota. but what we're going to watch is an upper storm that's spinning here over georgia and south carolina. abundant moisture around. it's sort of like in a florida sky the last couple of days with all the cumulous and afternoon storms building. i don't see any reason why we'll see much change because not much has changed here. we still have the moisture, the daytime heating. we'll bubble up some thunderstorms.

temperatures around 80 this afternoon. back in the mid-60s tonight. showers and storms waning. tomorrow, friday threats for afternoon storms. mid-80s and even warmer toward the weekend. by saturday upper 80s, isolated storms through the weekend. highs getting 90 or better sunday through tuesday. let's go to monika santami here at 5:18. we've got time saver traffic. it was tough yesterday on 95 in the dale city area. once again this morning another accident on the northbound side of i-95 in dale city right now along the right side of the roadway. in fact, i was watching it on our cameras. let's take a live look. i believe a tow truck had just arrived on the scene on the northbound side of i-95 on our traffic lamb camera. northbound we'll take a look here. just beyond the traffic you can see the activity on the shoulder on the northbound side of 95 again right side. just be aware of that. it should be cleared up shortly. let's go back over to our maps. this time heading over to the west side of town. old church road at park gate,

northwest d.c. we'll likely see showers and storms this afternoon. a pretty picture there with some of the clouds breaking up east of the capital. i love this type of morning for those sorts of shots. our day planner mid-70s by noon. partly cloudy conditions. maybe a shower then but a better chance of showers and storms really this afternoon and this evening with highs in the upper 70s to around the 80- degree mark. big time showers once again overnight produced some heavy rains and another 1.2 inches for charlie in catlett and fauquier county. over five inches of rain the last two nights so it's no wonder with areas even more than that in prince william and some of the flooding reports we've had with the road closures, that we've got a flood warning for prince william county and manassas park till 10:00 this morning. visibility just a little bit of an issue. martinsburg a half mile. also parts of southern maryland to cambridge now down to one- quarter-mile visibility with the fog. let's check in with monika. she'll have more with what's

happening on i-95. if you were one of the drivers on the north and southbound sides of i-95 yesterday it was tough going since early in the morning in dale city and now we have another accident on the northbound side of i-95 in dale city. you can see all this yellow forming here trying to get to that point. we'll go outside live. i think authorities did a great job of clearing it up quickly. everything is on the right shoulder. the tow truck has been there for a while and again it's hopefully not going to affect your ride if you're just heading out the door right now. let's go a little further north on to 395. this is great at duke street heading for the 14th street bridge. no delays to speak of yet. we'll go out west right now as howard said. we still have some flooding conditions over in bristow at old church road at park gate and little river road at the loudoun-prince william county line. in my next report, a look at 270 at 5:38. back to you. >> thank you, monika. this morning doctors are treating three injured drivers after an accident at the

rosecroft raceway. >> that's because there was a pileup. seven horses got tangled up in the race. three drivers were taken to area hospitals, two taken by helicopter. none of the injuries are life lettenning, though. >> one -- threatening though. >> one horse went down causing the accident. some of the drivers that were behind the main part of the accident were able to go around but the ones running with the first place horse went down as well. >> despite seven horses being tangled up in this, the manager of the track says they were not injured. we'll see if today will bring a repeat of flooding problems in prince william county. people who live near the lake jackson dam have been put on notice to stay alert. the dam could overflow if water levels get much higher and more rain has fallen there in the last few hours. 9news now reporter delia goncalves joins us. things looking better this morning? >> reporter: in fact here in

bristow things are looking better. things are drying out. i can hear the birds chirping. the sunrise is looking beautiful on the horizon. certainly when you travel throughout the county, you'll have different situations and certainly folks who are living by that dam, it is still a very volatile situation there. but this flooding caused some real emergencies throughout the county. the swelling lake jackson dam triggered a three alarm yesterday because of high weres. six and a half feet above normal level. that meant nearby low-lying homes were evacuated. other residents had to be rescued by emergency crews as flood waters got dangerously close. cars were stranded and roads literally opened up with sinkholes throughout the county as crews rushed around trying to keep folks safe. >> precautionary measure to notify communities and towns and residences downstream from the dam that the dam has gotten

to a specific level over the normal limits. unless you're driving a tank, i wouldn't even attempt to go across. find alternate means to get around. >> reporter: folks who are living close to that dam are paying close attention to the water levels and to emergency crews. a number of roads are still clouds because of sinkholes and waters that still need to recede but good news here. at least in bristow the vre which was flooded yesterday is now drying out. back to you, andrea. >> delia goncalves reporting live from bristow, virginia. a guilty verdict for a man accused in a string of attacks in michigan, ohio and virginia. he was convicted of first- degree murder in the stabbing of a 49-year-old man in august 2010. it's the first of several murder and attempted murder cases expected to go to trial, including one in leesburg. a total of 14 men were stabbed in and around flint, michigan.

good morning. welcome back to 9news now. 5:45. ath better news than yesterday -- a little better news than yesterday as far as the flooding. the rain is starting to go away. >> we didn't have as heavy rain as monday night. the problem is some of the areas that got hit with the 4- inch rains monday night had another inch plus last night so we do have some glad warnings around prince william and manassas, man fan sas park. -- manassas park. kind of a pretty shot. some breaks in the cloud cover to the east.
