manassas, manassas park, you're dealing with it again. got some sun off the capitol dome. partly sunny downtown. some areas of fog in spots. we may see an isolated shower here this morning but it's really going to be the afternoon hours that things will get more active once again with scattered source and storms which could have locally heavy rain as highs approach 80. lunch time temperatures in the mid-70s. the heavy rains overnight hit the same areas. they got four, five pinches two -- five inches two nights ago. this morning things are weakening so quickly. there's hardly anything left. we start in the 60s. we'll get to about 80. it's 6:00 a.m. here's monika with time saver traffic. >> thank you so much. good morning, everybody. if you're planning to head outside, you'll see volumes increasing on the dulles toll road and i-66 in centreville. we'll take you out there live right now on the inbound side of 66. here's what it looks like at

sudly road with a little bit of sunshine in your eyes as well. we had flooding conditions yesterday and a couple of roads affected today a including little river road. trenton court at valley view with a sinkhole there as well. we'll go over to the maps again. if you're on the northbound side of i-95 things are looking fine in spring field. this is normal for 6:00 in the morning heading up toward the beltway and on to 395. 395 just slowing down a bit at duke street. back to the maps if you're planning to head in from southern maryland i think you'll be fine on route 5, route 4, 301 to andrews air force base and down to the wilson bridge. we'll take a live look outside on our chart camera route 301 at route 5 still running smoothly. we'll go to the north side of town at 6:11. at the top of the hour we have a storm alert this morning. another day of flooding on the way in prince william county. >> delia goncalves is live in bringstown, virginia. what's -- in bristow, virginia.

>> reporter: it's hopefully going to be a beautiful and dry day here in prince william county. however, lots of folks are very concerned about the dam and their current situation. i would not be able to stand here just one day ago. yesterday the access road to the vre commuter rail station was completely flooded out and hopefully things will dry out a little later today. but, you know, folks who live near the lake jackson dam in manassas, they are crossing their fingers and watching the skies. continued rain could cause some severe emergencies. the dam already swelled to six and a half feet above normal water levels. and forced the evacuation of nearby residents many of them saying they have never seen the water get so high. and the roads in the area also took a major hit. high waters stranded some vehicles while sinkholes

defense. -- contends it was in self- defense. three of the witnesses changed their stories in ways that could be damaging to zimmerman. the fourth now says she only saw a single person running, not a chase as she initially told police. a long-time friend and campaign aide to d.c. mayor vincent gray could get up to 18 months in prison. in court yesterday thomas gore pleaded guilty to charges he took funds from gray's 2010 campaign and gave them to then mayoral candidate sulaimon brown. he also confessed to lying to the f.b.i. about destroying a ledger showing the payoffs. sentencing date has not been set so far. the presidential election is just over five months away and the campaign trail comes to our region today. presumptive republican nominee mitt romney will be at the chamber of commerce later today. he'll address the latino coalition's 2012 small business summit. the event begins at noon.

romney is closer to clinching the nomination but not quite there yet. he won the primaries in arkansas and kentucky yesterday. he now has 1,065 delegates but that's still 79 shy of the amount needed to secure the g.o.p. nomination. montgomery county wants to build a new bus system across the country, and you could pay for it whether you ride it or not. the county is planning 160-mile rapid bus transit system to complement the radio network. -- radio network -- ride on network. it could mean a hike in taxes. if it's approved the county believes the system would take nine years to build. vdot says what drivers pay on the dulles toll road does not have to go as high as predicted earlier. the airports authority runs the road and it may hike tolls to $4.50 each way by next year in order to pay for metro's silver line but vdot says the road will run a surplus in the

future and the airports authority can dip into that to help commuters now. vdot's analysis is wrong according to the airports authority. jessica doyle is here with another your money report. >> the stock has dropped like a rock in the last couple of days and apparently the mess around facebook's ipo is getting worse. >> we'll start with the investigation into what happened before this ipo actually came out. morgan stanley is the investment bank that was the lead injured writer of this deal -- lead underwriter of the deal. the financial industry regulatory authority is a self- policing body for the securities industry. it says this is a matter for itself and the security and exchange commission to look into. a subpoena has already been sent to morgan stanley by the top securities regulator for massachusetts. just days before they started trading on the nasdaq --

[indiscernible] the stock continues to lose value. now down 19% since the debut on friday. traders are blaming a couple of decisions. "the wall street journal" reports one of the major problems: the decision by facebook's chief financial officer to boost the number of shares the company would offer investors by 25%. that diluted the value of those shares. morgan stanley assured the company demand would be there for all that stock. other injured underwriters reportedly disagreed. others are blaming zuckerberg by making the offer too grandiose. employees are keeping mum about the problems. it says many are either ignoring the news that stock price declines or avoiding talking about them [ inaudible ] one of the big questions now

not much has changed from yesterday. we've got scattered showers around in spots this morning. another warm, muggy start. temperatures by noon will be in the mid-70s. some peeks of sun and more showers and storms possible this afternoon with the high around 80. drive home temp 77. we're going to take a live look on the southbound side of i-270 right now where it's pretty solid leaving the river most of the way to route 121 before the pace improves. i'll have more on area roads coming up at 6:18. back to you guys. a historic day in egypt. people there are picking their first president since last year's revolution. it's one of the stories making news at 6:12. this is video of people going

to the polls this morning. voting goes through tomorrow. there are 13 candidates for president. it's expected there will be a runoff between the top two finishers and that will happen next month. a u.s. airways flight from paris to charlotte was escorted to an airport in maine by fighter jets because of a security scare. a french woman said she had a surgically implanted device sparking fears that device was a bomb. after being examined it was revealed the woman did not have any kind of device. these men and women are -- [indiscernible] -- to finish this year's herndon climb. students have to replace the hat at the top of the greased monument. the challenge dates back to 1940. there's a report out this week that said healthy men should no longer get prostrate specific antigen tests known as psa tests. is that the right idea or does it put men at risk for prostrate cancer and possibly

even other diseases? joining us this morning to take a closer look is a urologist and prostrate cancer surgeon at georgetown university hospital. thank you for joining us. we heard many reports in the last couple of days about the test is flawed and there are a lot of false positives and men could get surgeries and things that they may not need. >> the psa test certainly does have its limitations. however, it's the only test we have right now to test for prostrate cancer. while did has its limb teagues, it has over -- limitations, it has over the last 30 years decreased the mortality of patients. just making a statement we should no longer use this is a great disservice to men. >> some other news reports are saying in some cases prostrate cancer can grow so slowly that men could die of something completely different and it should be left alone and not gone in as far as surgery is concerned. are those cases through, do you

think? >> that's absolutely true. studies have shown that prostrate cancer is a slow growing cancer, takes about 15, 20 years to progress. in older men that have heart disease, sure, we could probably decrease the amount of screening we're doing. however, in younger men 40s, 50s, 60s, these men still need to be screened. one of the problems is the trials that were used to come up with these final recommendations, they only had about 12 years of follow-up so they're very, very premature because we know prostrate cancer doesn't progress till 15, 20 years down the road. in my opinion that's the information we have is incomplete and we shouldn't have made a derecommendation saying there is no value because we don't know that yet. studies have shown there is psa at 13 years and those are the european studies. >> some of the populations, the chances of getting prostrate

cancer are much different. >> absolutely. it's much higher in the african- american community. we recommend they all still get screened starting at age 40. men who have a family history of prostrate cancer, a father who had prostrate cancer or brother, they're at two times the risk or three times the risk of having prostrate cancer in their life type. i still recommend patients even without the histories to get a baseline psa at 40 years old. if it's high, then they continue to get screening. if it's low, then we can talk about intermittent screening, not necessarily annual screening but we can tone it down. it's all about risk stratification, not eliminating the test. >> thanks a lot for joining us. great advice. we appreciate the help. over to you. >> thank you, mike. a beautiful start to the morning. we want to look at a shot from bristow, virginia where the sun has risen. you can see the clouds starting

to break away. >> they're breaking up some. the showers if overnight have pretty much fallen apart. we're almost done with that at least for now. i want to show another beautiful picture. this one not a live one but maybe about 20 minutes or so good. national park service has a camera looking back toward dng. you can see some -- toward d.c. you can see some of the clouds. a pretty morning out there thankfully. we still have some issues out to the west where we had some heavier rains overnight. so a couple of spots that were reporting drizzle earlier. some patchy fog. that's a problem in southern maryland, the eastern shore. as far as a few showers, they're way down toward the northern neck. temperatures this morning are in the 60s so really pretty comfortable. our day planner, i think we're going to be okay for the morning hours, most of the morning anyway. temperatures rise to 74 by noon. by the afternoon this is when we'll get a scattering of showers and storms start to pop in the daytime heat as we make a run toward 80.

winds at about 5 miles an hour. with a 5 p.m. temperature of 77. so if you've got some late afternoon plans, maybe an outdoor sporting event or practice, that may be a little staff if we get es -- tough if we get those storms again. flood warning till 10:00 a.m. for prince william county, manassas. right there coming through the northern neck off of st. mary's county and the lower part of the bay, still have a couple of showers we're dealing with. the fog a problem on the eastern shore. easton quarter mile visibility. even southern maryland, leonardtown down to half-mile visibility. look at warrenton and winchester, martinsburg. he everybody there also down a quarter mile or less. watch out for that. the pattern is not changing much. we do have a threat for the afternoon showers and storms around 80 degrees. 82 tomorrow after starting in the mid-60s again with the afternoon showers and storms. friday afternoon showers and storms mid-80s.

over the weekend it gets hot. upper 80s saturday. isolated afternoon storms each day with high temperatures sunday, monday and tuesday. probably 90 at least. what's going on with the roads? it's kind of calming down right now. although we have slow traffic which is normal for this time of the morning. nothing major to report on our major thoroughfares so i'm happy to say there is still one problem with flooding down here on little river road at the prince william-loudoun county line. 66 is slowing down as you come in through manassas toward centreville. i'm going to step out and show you a live look from our sky 9. this is at route 7100. pace looks good here. it is slow route 50 to 123 and at the beltway you should be okay. on the inbound side of i-66 all lanes are open as you can see. let's go back over to our maps and this time we'll head northbound on i-95. you see a bit of yellow and then a bit of red trying to intet into fringe -- get into springfield. it's incident free right now. a live look in springfield on

university boulevard. i think we can handle n. we'll go back over to the happen -- to the maps this time on the east side of the beltway. we're fine through the beltway. no problems from annapolis all the way in toward cheverly and the northeast corridor and we'll end with a live look as well new york avenue at florida avenue. very quiet here at the intersection. coming up in my next report, we'll go out west at 6:43. we are going to hear from the head of the secret service today about the prostitution scandal. several agents are accused of partying it up with prostitutes in colombia just hours before the president's arrival there in april. nine agents have been implicated in this and in some prepared remarks director mark sullivan will say the incident does not represent the secret service's ethics or values. last month homeland security secretary said the president was never in any danger. >> the first question i posed to the director was, was there any breach to the president's

security in this instance. the answer was no. >> four secret service employees dismissed over the scandal are reportedly fighting to get their jobs back. "the washington post" reports the four claimed the secret service has tolerated this behavior for years and they say these guys are just scapegoats. it was another dark and stormy night in parts of northern virginia. >> now the sun is up and people living in prince william county are looking to see if they have to deal with yet another day of flooding. >> delia goncalves is live in bristow. how are things looking there this morning? >> reporter: things are looking great here in the parking lot of the vre. very packed. folks, commuters are heading to the trains and heading to washington to begin hopefully a good day of work. when they return home, hopefully it will be an even better day and drier day. just yesterday, though, the vre station was shut down because of flood waters in the area. crews and residents are keeping a very close eye on the lake

jackson dam which swelled yesterday to six and a half feet above normal water levels. flood waters and heavy rains yesterday forced some emergency evacuations from nearby homes and rescues of folks who were stranded in their vehicles on several roads. and then to make things even worse, there were several huge massive sinkholes that shut down a number of roads in the area. >> precautionary measure to notify communities and towns and residences downstream from the dam that the dam has gotten to a specific level over the normal limits. >> unless you're driving a tank, i wouldn't even attempt to go across. find an alternate means to get around. >> reporter: heed those words of advice because many of the roads are still shut down as crews are trying to dry out the area and also trying to repair those massive sinkholes from

yesterday's heavy rain. but as the sun is shining here over prince william county, residents are hoping it will be a better and drier day for everyone. >> delia goncalves with that live update from bristow, virginia this morning. in other news three harness racing drivers are in the hospital after a terrible crash at rosecroft raceway last night. this was the scene shortly after the accident. the crash involved the first place horse and six others. the director of operations at rosecroft tells us what happened. >> one of the first horses went down and it caused a multitude of horses to be involved in the accident. some of the drivers that were behind the main part of the accident were able to go around but the ones running with the first place horse went down as well. >> in harness racing the driver sits on a cart behind the horse. thorpts say it makes it harder for the driver to see in front of them making the sport prone

to crashes. the epic mess that is the silver spring transit center does not meet montgomery county's building code requirements. that's the findings of the group which designed the project. the center at silver spring metro station has major problems with the korea. the engineering firm -- with the concrete. the engineering firm which designed it says it does meet national safety standards but the county paid for a higher level of safety and the company that has built it so far has not met that level so far according to the county. jessica doyle is watching your money and our nation's economy. >> there's a new report out warning about falling off a fiscal cliff. what does that mean? >> we're talking about a recession. the big "r" word. we don't like to talk about that but there is a warning about what could bring about the next recession. the nonpartisan congressional budget office is behind this report and it says the economy would shrink by 1.3% in the next half of the fiscal year if

these conditions are met. the government allows bush era tax cuts to expire and a scheduled round of more than $100 billion in automatic spending cuts kick in. right now capitol hill is gridlocked over spending and taxes in advance of the fall elections. here's a change families need to know about. united airlines will no longer allow families with small children to board planes early. our partners at "u.s.a. today" report the policy change happened last week or rather last month. the airline says to simplify the boarding process but it also comes at a time when more and more airlines are charging fees for passengers to board early and sit in certain seats. a cautionary tale about dating in the workplace. steven mcmillan was c.e.o. of medical device company striker. earlier this year he was forced out by board members. it turns out he lost his job after asking for the okay to date a flight attendant for the company's corporate jets. he was going through a divorce at the time.

on 395 actually i should say heading up toward duke street and seminary road before the pace improves. 95 itself also pretty heavy through springfield but nothing you can't handle this morning. let's go over to our maps. on the inbound side of i-66 you're going to have a bunch of low traffic as you come in from manassas to centreville and again route 50 toward route 123. inside the beltway this is normal as well through falls church. there are no issues to report on the inbound side of the dulles toll road as cow in from the airport. on -- as you come in from the airport. on 270 about 42 miles an hour as you leave frederick toward urbana and clarks burke. the pace looks pretty good as you head toward rockville. we'll take a live look outside right now in maryland and here's what it looks like on the outer loop of the beltway from 95 to georgia avenue and then it's fine into bethesda. no issues on the outer loop. a quick look in southern maryland as well. route 5 and 301 out of waldorf heading up toward the beltway and the beltway south of town fine on the inner loop as you head for the wilson bridge.

in my next report i'll look again at area roads. but before i go, i have a commuter alert and a follow-up to a story we told you yesterday about traffic congestion. i told you that we are the sixth worse city in the country for congestion according to a new study. the same report finds the worst spot in the region is right here. hey, what do you know. southbound 95 in virginia between the beltway and exit 148 in stafford. the average driver waits 19 minutes each evening on this 24- mile stretch. here are the five worst spots in our region. number two, the outer loop in maryland from route 1 to georgia avenue. i just talked about that. then eastbound 66 between route 234 and the beltway and the inner loop from 395 in virginia all the way around to new hampshire avenue. that's a long stretch. finally the northbound bw parkway from route 450 to powder mill road. even our worst road doesn't crack the nationwide top 20.

southbound 95 is 21st on the nationwide list, the worst in the nation is 405 in los angeles. been there. followed by long island expressway in new york which company incidentally is also 495. >> we call it the long island distressway. >> i can believe that. >> not a fun ride on many occasions. >> 95 through bridgeport, connecticut as you head into new york city is an absolute nightmare. dan, our producer tells us 270 didn't make the list. for those of us who take 270 when you get off river road to go north, absolute nightmare. >> that would be on the top of our list. >> always the your backyard the top of the list. weather wise we're doing all right. we cleared out for the most part. sunshine here in d.c. by the way the allergens if they're getting you it's the mold spores. the rain has been cleaning out the pollen but of mold is loving this stuff so that may be giving you some issues. the bus stop forecast not so bad. we do have some breaks out
