peek of tomorrow's national memorial day concert on the west lawn of the capitol. we are live with a preview of what the show will look like. ken, it looks empressive? >> reporter: it was. and what is so amazing is that tonight was the dress rehearsal. that big show is tomorrow, but the dress rehearsal has become almost a big a tradition as the show itself. so say spoiler alert, we're about to give you a sneak peek of what this show looks like. the american spirit and appreciation for those who serve our country was in no short order. performances by doughtery and natalie cole. earlier today mantegna said this is what to remind -- this is to remind us what we should be thinking about. >> your life is on the line all of the time. >> the tribute to the fallen servicemen and women included emotional accounts with those dealing with the casualties of war. actor dennis france and selma blair read those stories. >> no one wanted to join the national guard ... >> it is tough. it is tough to hear. >> it touched home because there are a lot of veterans and even myself have been on the brink of being homeless with a child. >> reporter: the crowds with energized with the proud that comes with being a patriotic american. >> it is exciting because it is in front of the capitol building to be here in d.c. >> i'm glad to be here. >> reporter: well i hope you

can expect -- you didn't expect we will spoil the entire show. if you want to see what rest of the show looks like, you have to tune in tomorrow. the crowds out here today were in the thousands and u.s. capitol police are expecting those crowds to double in size tomorrow. live on capitol hill, ken molestina, 9 news now. >> thanks, ken. nearly a million motorcyclists could be in town this weekend. this is the 25th annual rolling thunder event. veteran bikers are arriving with their families and friends to hon your and support our heroes, past and present. surae chinn has more. >> reporter: we thank you to the military, the fallen, those still serving and the heroes who have never come home. hundreds of thousands of bikers have come from across the country to be here. >> it is a great time and a wonderful thing to do for the veterans. especially our vietnam era vets. >> reporter: they've made the

annual pilgrimage to the district where there is a memorial for nearly every conflict of the past certainty. >> you have it all. vietnam, world war ii, korea, this is where we come from. people need to remember. >> reporter: some ride thousands of miles to be here with the intention of walking through the vietnam wall but steps away they find it too difficult. >> i had a friend over here that came and stood across the street and didn't come in because he was bothered by it. >> this man's two sons have served. >> it has been tough and emotional, yes. >> reporter: and there are veterans to try to muster the strengths who want to be here, and there are those who don't want to leave. >> they have aunts, uncles, brothers, everything, that is united states right there, to me. >> reporter: the bikers have roared into town but they may walk out of here in silence.

>> it is real tough. you can't describe it. you have to live it. you have to be -- being a vet, i can understand it. but you see people down here that they lost somebody 30 years ago and it was just like yesterday. there were a lot of people that weren't in and they are proud of us too. it means a lot. >> reporter: ten new names have been etched on the memorial wall and were dedicated this month. i'm surae chinn for 9 news now. the president obama plans to mark the day with veterans and their families at the memorial. we have a gruesome attack overnight. tonight the white house is horrified by the violence in syria that has killed more than 90 people, 32 of them children. the international community also condemning those responsible for the attack. the syrian government is blaming it on armed terrorist groups but has provided no

details. the white house said the syrian regime responds with peaceful protest with unspeakable brutality. susan reports. >> reporter: amateur video shows dozens of bodies lining a mass grave in a syrian town of hula. activists say the people died when government forces shelled the town on friday. mourners surrounded united nations observers who arrived to investigate. the head of the u.n. team confirms more than 90 people, including 32 children under the age of 10, are dead. >> it is unacceptable attack on the future and on the aspirations of the syrian people. >> reporter: the massacre sparked protests throughout the streets of damascus and the white house released a statement saying these acts serve as a vile testament to an ill legitimate regime that

responds to protest with unspeakable and inhuman brutality. hundreds of united nations upon tors are on the -- monitors are on the ground trying to establish a cease fire between bashar al assad and opposition forces. but the violence has not stopped. u.n. estimates more than 40,000 people have died. susan mcguinness, cbs news, washington. vice president joe biden was commencement speaker at west point today. he applauded the brave choices of the class of 2012 and their so-called 9/11 generation and focused this company's new foreign policy challenges including cyber threats and rising china. he noted 3 million americans joined the military after the attacks knowing they were going to be sent to battle. >> most of you were in

elementary school on sent 10th, 2001 when your nation was attacked. old enough to remember, perhaps, but young enough that that tragic day need not have shaped your lives. but for so many of you, it did just that. as you and your predecessors came of age, 2,800,000 of you were moved to join our military. >> nearly 1,000 men and women graduated from west point today. they'll be commissioned as second lieutenants in the army. big crowds have arrived in ocean city and the delaware beach towns. in ocean city they are finding a new board work. the first phase is completed from the north end of the walk to 17th street. the remaining 2.5-mile boardwalk will be finished during the off season.

there is a new thrill ride in ocean city. one you won't mind anywhere else on the east coast. the aqua loop opened. riders step into a compartment 65 feet off the ground and wait for the bottom to drop out before being propelled at twists and turns with 3 gs of force. >> you are going 37 miles per hour with nothing but your swimming trunks on so that has got to say something. just the reaction and the looks on their faces is just a really great ride. >> people can't wait to get on that. the travel channel named the aqua loop one of the top three summer thrills this summer. and popular mechanics called this the best water slide in the entire country. musicians booking gigs this summer will have to pay to play. for the first time the town is making bands and dj's a license

to play. the popular star board restaurant said it will pay the fee for its bands and pass the costs on to you know who. crab season in maryland off to a slow start. the state waterman's association said there are smaller crabs but not as many big ones. they said last years storms may be to blame. the annual winter survey found blue crabs in record numbers but a drop in the number of adult female crabs. memorial day weekend opened the -- marked the opening of 19 public swimming pools and 11 spray parks and five kiddy pools. they will be open through the monday holiday and then on weekends until june 17th. after schools are out for the summer, the pools are open every day. for complete information on all of the washington area pool hours, go to our website at wusa9.com. with many people relaxing at the beach this weekend, the red cross is warning about

potential dangers. strong rip currents caused by hurricane beryl may pose a threat. beachgoers should swim only in designated areas but some vacationers are not deterred. >> we thought that with the tropical storm out in the ocean that we would have rain coming in, in bands. that's what greg said i think. and it's been absolutely beautiful. >> tell them to come on down. get out of bed, put the grill on the back of truck and come on down. >> hurricane beryl is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to cape hatteras and north florida over the next couple of days. just ahead tonight on 9 news now. possible deposit turns into a crashing withdrawal. oh, my gosh. >> i don't know what to say. >> thank god no one was in there. >> the driver ends up inside the bank behind the wheel of

instead of a withdrawal, a driver in florida making a smashing deposit at a bank. anna mary had no clue as to how her suv ended up inside the bank of america. police say the truck hopped the median and slammed through the building. >> oh, my god. >> you can believe that? >> wow! >> i think the problem was with the brakes. i didn't even see this bank. i don't see how i press through story. i have no idea, i swear. >> the bank was open at the

time of the accident with customers inside. but get this, nobody was hurt. to word tonight on whether there will be charged against the driver. astronauts aboard the international space station have entered the dragon. they have until the middle of the week to unload supplies from the unmanned commercial supply shipch the six astronauts will load up the capsule with science experiments to return to earth. this is an attempt by nasa to partner with private companies to bring the cost of flying to space way down in the wake of the retired u.s. space shuttle program. >> it is roomier than a room so flying up in a human-rated dragon is not going to be an issue. >> for nasa the end game is to be able to use u.s. hardware made by u.s. labor to launch astronauts from u.s. soil. >> the space x flight has so far been a success. the company said the dragons

could be ferrying astronauts to the space station in three years. the first hurricane of the season was downgraded to a tropical storm. but not before dumping heavy rain on the pacific mexican coastline. the storm downed trees and closed schools. port operations were also halted. families fled to shelters but no injuries or major damage reported. what can we expect over the rest of the holiday weekend? your forecast straight ahead.

i know people if they make up their minds to go to the beach and they are at the beach, they are getting in the water. >> 61-degree temperature, think people could handle that. for me on the chilly side. the wakeup weather for us on the muggy side. we have mainly cloudy skies for the early morning and then we'll clear out with morning sunshine. we'll start off moving up quickly out of the 70s and back into the 80s and into the low 90s for some portions tomorrow. right now it is definitely a beautiful night out and about. our ocean city camera courtesy of fish tails looking good right now. again the temperatures are mostly in the 70s for many of us and then we'll see them drop

back down a little bit closer to the upper 60s as we head to into the early morning hours. it is going to be a very warm and muggy night. right now and around the beltway we are still looking at temperatures sitting at about 75 degrees for arlington. 77 up in rockville and 76 toward sterling. and you'll see the cooler air move on through. well getting us to the lower 70s the further toward the east. andrews afb now at 73. it is going to stay on the sunnyside. our humidity values and current conditions definitely on the muggy side. humidity is up to 74%. we are keeping the winds out of the south so we'll keep pumping in moisture as we head in toward tomorrow and even op monday. so here is what you need to know for the next 24-48 hours, the hot and humid conditions throughout tomorrow afternoon, air quality is deteriorating, we had a code orange, unhealthy for tomorrow and that means with the clouds tomorrow afternoon the possibility of a few isolated showers or even a

thunderstorm moving on through toward the region. memorial day looks to be more of the same. more heat as we get close to the 90 degrees mark. the overnight will see a little bit of patchy fog in some locations for early tomorrow morning. but most of us are going to start out in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. then as things start to progress, tomorrow afternoon we'll move out of the -- the morning, we'll move out of the 60s and in toward the upper 80s, topping out near 90 degrees. i think the city center has a good shot at 90 degrees. we should especially see the 90s further back toward the west, expecting manassas to hit 90, about 91 for frederick and very warm all over, feeling more like july than like may. the forecast overall is going to feature a mix of -- feature a mix of sun and clouds. we start with morning clearing and fog. but by early afternoon we'll have sunshine as well as the clouds developing and the storm developing off toward the west. most of that rain will stay in

the mountains and east of i-81. however we have the opportunity late in the day to see some of the showers and thunderstorms begin to pick up on monday afternoon and in toward the evening hours. i think it could be damp as you close out your weekend festivities but the better chance of rain is into tuesday as the cold front gets closer. that beach and boating forecast is not bad. temperatures still in the 70s and 80s for sunday and monday on the bay. we are looking good even as we move in toward the eastern shore. again that water temperature is not quite warm yet but it is getting there. the seven-day forecast is going to feature a bit of a change, but not until tuesday into wednesday with that front. hazy, hot and humid for the next two or three days and then it is back to the 80s. >> hazy, hot and humid. i like that about now. >> me too, man. how about an immortal stephen strasburg. >> what is wrong with him? >> davie johnson has an explanation. what was up with stephen strasburg today? his manager will speak on it.

last week when davie johnson said strasburg had bicep tightness. but the nats were trying to down play it. he is the ace coming off tommy john and that put's start in a different light. nats fans hoping strasburg would look sharp. he did early on. dan uggla, great game to watch. trying to get the lead, espinosa said you got the lead. 5th of the year, 4-0 washington. and then strasburg struggled in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th and then he got tagged. uggla going -- and there goes the hammer. strasburg 5 innings pitched but in the 7th, bryce harper to the rescue. boy wonder, hadn't homered in a while. nats win 8-4. afterwards davie on his ace said, quite simple, the man couldn't locate. >> stras, for some reason, didn't have command of his fastball or he was afraid to
