by noon we'll be in the upper 70s with mid-80s. i mean by 9:00 upper 70s. mid-80s by noon. sunny skies. this afternoon an isolated storm or two but still partly to mostly sunny. hot and kind of sticky. the highs up toward 90. here are the storms from last night. they came out of pennsylvania with some wind being the major problem with them. we had gusts reported 50, 60 miles an hour but you can see this morning how they are gone. they have fallen apart leaving a few clouds behind. mid-60s here north of town. low 60s out toward cumberland. down south upper 60s and low 70s. so pretty uniform air mass. here's our heat advisory from noon till 9:00 covering the entire metro. go over toward the bay, a little cooler there so you're not under that advisory but with heat index values expected in the mid, maybe upper 90s, temperatures 90, 92, there could be some problems. a little early in the season so drink plenty of fluids, nonalcoholic and air conditioning. consider that for your own safety for the afternoon.

ceremonies around the city. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is live at arlington national cemetery this morning with a preview. delia, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's very serene and peaceful out here. in just a few hours president obama and several others will be coming here to arlington national cemetery for the traditional wreath laying ceremony. that tops off the day of memorial day events and also tops off a whole weekend here in the nation's capital of activities to honor our soldiers, including the wounded warrior project in the region paying tribute to those who made it home but were left with physical and emotional scars of war. >> they took out 9 on something tumors. i have bipolar and stuff like that they don't understand what's happening to us. >> you ride down the street and thousands upon thousands of people are cheering you on. it's just -- it restores your faith in the country. >> you feel appreciated. >> not just for me but for

minutes ago and will remain closed until tonight at 7:00. the weather forced annual abrupt end to last night's memorial day concert. a singer had just finished a tribute and the band was starting to play again when the conductor suddenly cut off the musicians. the concert was stopped because of an approaching storm and the thousands packed on to the west lawn of the capitol were asked to evacuate. pbs replaced the live broadcast with a tape of last year's concert. doctors are trying to save a man who was hit by a car last night in seat pleasant, maryland. the crash was on addison road at central avenue. officers shut down the road in that area. the roads in that area till about 2:30 this morning. they're open now. the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the situation. no word whether or not that driver is going to face any charges at this point. an assailant who stabbed three horses last month may have struck again. police in herndon, virginia say four animals, to goats, a calf and a chicken were stabbed early yesterday at the kidwell

barn at frying pan park. caretakers discovered the injuries in the animals when they got there to feed them. police say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening to the animals. last month three horses housed in a barn near the same park were also stabbed. police are still looking for a suspect. four people in ocean city, maryland got busted for allegedly selling drugs on a boardwalk. police say undercover cops bought synthetic drugs and paraphernalia from two boardwalk businesses. cool topics and new york new york. they say employees gave the officers instructions on how to get high using the synthetic drugs. among the other items seized 500 bags of suspected synthetic marijuana. four people are now facing charges. the time right now 5:05. i'm watching your money. wall street closed today but at least it went into the long holiday weekend with its first weekly gain since the first week of may. concerns about europe have been a drag on u.s. stocks for months and they're back on friday. checking the numbers the dow fell 75 points or 0.6%.

it starts tomorrow at 12,455. the s&p 500 was down by three points. i brought you this story last week about changes to airline fees and how they're affecting families. now parents outraged by the newest fees have a powerful ally in the u.s. senate. several airlines are now charging more for window and aisle seats. a new york democrat charles schumer says that makes it more expensive for families to book seats together. >> you're faced with a choice. if you want that aisle or window seat, pay that extra cost. otherwise you can be in seat 6k and your kid could be back in seat 23f and you have no sight or knowledge of them. if the fees are not paid, the parents and the kids get separated. and that's absurd. >> american, delta, frontier and united have all increased the percentage of seats set aside for travelers willing to pay extra. two years ago senator schumer

here's what's making news. human rights groups say at least two dozen more people died in the syrian say of hamas where the military bombarded neighborhoods till early this morning. this comes on the heels of a weekend massacre in houla where more than a hundred people died there, many of them children. the attack has been condemned by the united nations security council. more than a thousand people protested outside a north carolina church yesterday. inside pastor charles wurley received a standing ovation when he stepped to the pulpit. the annualty gay sermon delivered on mother's day has received worldwide attention over the last two weeks. tropical storm beryl, here it comes. made landfall after midnight along the coast of northeast florida. the winds and rains picked up. city officials in jacksonville canceled the sunday jazz festival as well as today's memorial day ceremony. beryl could dump more than half a foot of rain in some areas. how much rain can we expect

highs around -- mid-80s. highs around 90 degrees with an isolated storm and south wind at 10 miles an hour. we could even have an isolated storm this evening as well. big storms last night. i don't know if you can see that line there, kind of that arc. that's a bow echo. that's a signature of gusty winds. we had reports of winds 50, 60 miles per hour yesterday. 66 in vienna this morning. it's 68 in leesburg. we've got 66 for springfield as well. to our north and east columbia 66. it's 68 in baden. reagan national 70 degrees. starting to see a little bit of light. about a half-hour before the sunrise. national reporting mostly cloudy skies, a south, southwesterly wind at 6 miles an hour and humidity 78%. so the muggies are back. got this ridge here right over the ohio and tennessee valleys extended toward us. that is giving us the heat.

also the storms again bigger picture. you see them in pennsylvania. then down in the southeast we're watching tropical storm beryl which made landfall last night. you see it moving west on interstate 10. here's a closer look at the temperature letter radar. jacksonville here, these heavy bands of rain into southern georgia, south carolina. we've got bad drought conditions in southern georgia so that's good news for them. for us we could see an isolated storm this afternoon come through. maybe better chance in the mountains. tomorrow that's when the front is going to get closer to us late tomorrow into early wednesday increasing our rain chances. so today 90, isolated storm. scattered storms tomorrow afternoon through wednesday morning at least. temperatures both tomorrow and wednesday upper 80s with lows around 70. we cool off nicely by thursday around 80. then check out friday, saturday and sunday. scattered storms friday, 79. mid-70s with a chance of a shower this weekend. it's 5:16. let's go to bev with time saver traffic. we're checking out the ride

some isolated thunderstorms. perhaps a better chance out toward i-81 and then pennsylvania and at 9:00 p.m. 83 degrees. still can't rule out a lingering storm or two. we're going to drop to only around 70 once again for the lows tonight. this morning we've got 60s north. in fact low 60s in winchester 63. gaithersburg is 64. down south below 70s from fredricksburg to the pax river naval air station and in washington we've got 70 degrees. outside on our michael & son weather camera mostly cloudy skies. the skies are starting to break up here in northwest. just a moment ago i was looking up and i think we're going to see a decent amount of sunshine at least for the first half of the day. relative humidity of 78%. light south, swerm winds. look -- southwesterly winds. look at storms up across iowa and minnesota. they've had plenty of rain but it's really -- [indiscernible] in spite of the storms that came yesterday, a lot of that fell north and west of town and

really didn't get us. we're watching beryl which came ashore last night. had winds of 70 miles an hour. it's weakening now to about 65. the last advisory moving west. now that it's inland other than the heavy rain threat, we'll see it weaken to a tropical depression the next 12, 14 hours. then tuesday, wednesday gets back out over the atlantic staying generally south of the outer banks and out to sea. for us we're going to watch the isolated storms for the afternoon and evening hours, especially west of town. maybe more likely here. then tomorrow afternoon we'll see these showers and storms approach and pop up here for the afternoon and evening hours. with that front it's going to keep things pretty active tomorrow night into wednesday morning. so 90 today. isolated storms this afternoon. 70 tonight. tomorrow upper 80s with the afternoon and evening storms into the first part of wednesday. wednesday clearing, still very warm to hot, upper 80s but drier in the afternoon. by thursday we're cooling down to about 80. showers and storms possible on

and just like you guys know by the tone of the phone call you just knew, didn't you? you knew when they walked up the path. you knew when the call came. you knew. you just felt it in your bones something bad happened. and i knew. i don't know how i knew but the call said my wife was dead, my daughter was dead, and i wasn't sure how my sons were going to make it. they were christmas shopping and a tractor-trailer broadsided them. it can and will get better. there will come a day, i promise you, and you parents as well, when the thought of your son or daughter or your husband or wife brings a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eye.

it will happen. >> of course mr. biden's sons did survive. they made full recoveries. you can see more of the vice president's speech on our website wusa9.com. making news at 5:51, a couple and their daughter are recovering after being stranded when their small plane crashed in a remote part of idaho early yesterday. someone on board called for help on a cell phone but searchers didn't find the wreckage till after daybreak. and then had to wait for better weather before a military helicopter hoisted all three to safety. fire crews are struggling to contain a massive wildfire in new mexico. this is in the national forest in the southwest part of the state. the flames have already scorched more than 122,000 acres. the smoke could be seen as far away as denver, colorado. investigators have a better idea what caused an explosion at a foundry in southwest virginia yesterday. it's believed a furnace blew up in radford.

the foundry makes metal car parts. ten employees were inside at the time but no one was hurt. the remains of tropical storm beryl, what do they have in store for us this week? >> beryl made land fall early this morning in northeast florida. the storm was just shy of hurricane strength. we have more. >> reporter: the storm came ashore early morning in northeastern florida. forecasters say berle could -- beryl could drop up to eight inches of rain in some areas. officials in jacksonville, florida canceled memorial day events because of the storm. >> it has the potential to produce localized flooding, down trees and power lines that could impact the public safety. >> reporter: beryl started ruining holiday plans sunday. lifeguards moved people away from the shore along georgia's island. the surf is so strong there, swimming isn't allowed and the rough conditions kept most people out of the water in flagler beach, florida.

pa. we'll see our temps in the upper 70s rise to the mid-80s by lunch time. best chance for storm will be north and east. as we get into the afternoon may see a couple of storms by 3:00 well south of town. also in the mountains i-81 west. many of those we'll see if they can get close toward the evening hours. heat advisory noon to 9:00. in addition to the hot dogs and potato salad, you may have snapped up the citronella candles and bug spray for today's memorial day cookout. that of course is to ward off all those mosquitoes. >> gl they could be worse than normal because we've had some rain in recent days. we look at how fairfax county is trying to respond to the threat. >> reporter: the standing water may create more worries providing a perfect place for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. these mosquitoes were just caught in the first traps put out this season by the fairfax county health department. >> the majority of the problems in the backyard is the asian

tiger mosquito. it's a mosquito that breeds in artificial containers around houses. they like those black corrugated pipes that people use to drain the water away from the houses. >> reporter: he recommends tossing a lavacide mosquito dump in the pipes. this trap has dry ice that puts out carbon dioxide which attracts mosquitoes just flying around looking to bite something. and this trap has stagnant water which attracts mosquitoes looking for a place to lay eggs. ticks are a bigger concern because of lyme disease. thankfully our most common tick the lone star tick does not carry the lyme disease bacteria. only the tiny deer tick does. but how do you know the difference? >> that's the females and these are the males. >> reporter: a lone star tick and a deer tick side by side look identical to the naked eye. that's why if one bites you,
