trying to -- accused of trying to buy a fully automatic ak47 and making threats against president obama. douglas story was arrested today. >> our reporter matt jablow following the story and joining us with the very latest. matt. >> reporter: anita, the bust went down earlier today in a typical suburban strip mall, and when it was over, a manassas man accused of being a white supremacist and a potential threat to the president was under arrest. >> he frightens you? >> yes. >> reporter: he has never made a secret of his views of president obama and gun control. indeed, story's pickup truck in front of his pickup apartment has bumper stickers bearing the right to bear arms. >> i would rather not have my tires trashed. >> reporter: today story was arrested accused of trying to buy a fully automatic ak47

assault rifle. >> wow. >> reporter: what's more, according to the fbi, story has recently posted statements on a white supremacist website saying he would kill any law enforcement officer who tried to stop him in and when marschall law was opposed and hoping president obama and the attorney general would be removed from office with a 30 ot 6 hunting rifle. >> wow. that is some serious jail time. >> reporter: for now, story has only been charged with trying to buy an assault rifle. if convicted of the charge, he could face up to 10 years in prison. >> thank you, matt. new at 11:00, a house goes up in flames. and when firefighters try to put out the flame, they find a body. it happened in the 5300-block of lorain drive. there was a domestic disturbance at the house, a violent one, where the husband attacked his wife. investigators tell us that after

the fight, the man set the house on fire and then shot himself. well, silver spring woman is found tied up and screaming inside a hotel room. the hotel room registered to a cincinnati reds baseball picture. this is claudia manriki. this all got started in pittsburgh last night when somebody knocked on the door to the room that was registered to the reds pitcher. chapman was still out at the ballpark, so according to the escorts, the guy said he was a maintenance man there to fix the toilet. but when she let them in, he demanded certain items in the room. she refused. he allegedly tied her off with cloth napkins and ransacked the place. he took several things. reds player signing autographs outside the hotel didn't know

much. she was 26 years old, originally from columbia. chapman is 24 years old. he came from cuban in 2009. just how dangerous are pit bulls? a task force made up trying to figure that out. last month they ruled the dogs are an inherently dangerous breed and that means when an attack involves a pit, they don't have to prove the animal's prior violent behavior. for the tagsing force is now looking -- task force is looking into the impact of that report. it is regarded as one of the most prestigious schools in our area, but tonight the lan den school in bethesda has been accused of discrimination. a former worker said he was reprimanded when trying to speak up for another employee. >> at the root of this are some serious allegations at former chief operating officer tim

harrison claims the school officials tried to ignore. in the process he says they turned on him. we want to warn you, some of the language in the story may be offensive but needs to be used to explain what happened. landen school has about 700 students of all ages. the annual tuition here is about 30 grand. by all accounts, it's an elite institution for those with deep pockets. but now allegations of discrimination are brewing and it has one former school executive who seen it happen taking actions. >> he calls the workers as [ bleep ] . and i said to him, my wife is hispanic, puerto rican and frankly i resent you using that term. >> tim harrison was the director of the office of finance and operations and got word when one of the su bored nits used a -- subordinates used a slur to describe workers. from that point on, things only

got worse. two maintenance supervisors who spoke very little english were talked down to, humiliated and forced to put up with sub par working conditions. >> it was kind of a presumption that if you're a spanish speaker, you're dumb. you're not capable of doing certain things. however, if you're non-hispanic, you're okay. you can use the equipment and the tools. >> reporter: over the course of a year, he reported the behavior to the head master david armstrong. >> the more i started talking about it, the more i took aim for it. >> reporter: eventually claims he was fired for being a whistle blower. the group of 8 remained employed. i did have a chance to talk to several of the workers claiming discrimination. they didn't want to go on cameras saying they feared they would be retaliated against. but the statements they made accurately depict the type of treatment they received here. one worker said he was referred to as a piece of pure expletive.

another said he was called a [ bleep ] by his supervisor. he claims that same supervisor said all hispanics are idiots. another worker described his working conditions as being "torture". >> it's just shameful and it needs to stop. >> reporter: officials rejected an on camera interview request but a spokeswoman did release a statement saying the school denies mr. harrison's allegations which the school believes are inaccurate and misleading and will defend itself accordingly. the two million dollar lawsuit claiming retaliation and wrongful termination was filed today in montgomery county. harrison and his lawyers say there are more details of discriminatory behavior that will come out in court. >> i'm sure we'll be following it. thank you. a city paralyzed with fear by one man with a gun. a day long killing spree in seattle. police say the madness started when the man walked into a quiet cafi and opened fire inside. he left three dead, two wounded. later he allegedly carjacked an suv and killed the woman behind

the wheel. during a police press conference, word finally came that officers had tracked him down. >> the suspect saw the uniformed officers. he apparently nement down in the middle of the -- knelt down in the middle of the street and put the gun to his head and shot himself. >> he was in the hospital in critical condition. police aren't saying who he is and why did he start shooting. tonight family and friends are mourning the loss of a local marine who died in afghanistan. 22-year-old sergeant julian chase died in combat as a part of operation enduring freedom. chase is from edgewater, maryland. that's just south of annapolis. and the outrage is growing tonight over the violence in syria. un observers found 13 more bodies today apparently shot to death execution style. that follows the massacre of more than 100 people last week. un investigators say the seer yin government is -- seer yin

mcdonald's climb threw. in the wee hours tuesday, this guy smashed the window and forced his way inside. you can literally see it happening. he threatens and grabs a restaurant employee and makes her empty the register. >> i don't understand how would somebody think to rob a mcdonald's through the drive-thru. >> again, here you'll see him approach that worker. this all happened at the mcdonald's on branch avenue in hillcrest heights. fortunately no one was hurt. police hope somebody watching the surveillance video give them the lead they need to catch the man. the reunion tonight between the pilot that survived the crash and the virginia man that helped him. thomas proven is just out of the hospital after suffering a busted nose and a cut to the face. the pilot of the other plane james duncan died in the crash as did his passenger paul gardella. the two were only five miles out of the airplane. well, jerry sandusky's child sex abuse trial is on track to

begin next tuesday. a judge today denied a request by the former coach to delay the trial. sandusky is accused of molesting 10 boys between 1994 and 2008. the 20-year-old rut ger student who used a web cam to spy on his roommate. his roommate took his own life. he is ready to start serving his 30-day sentence but prosecutors are appealing the sentence calling it too lenient. if they're successful, he could be punished twice for the same crime. still ahead, honoring a local legend. we have a complete run down for funeral plans for chuck brown. plus the study just released says the mineral zinc could be used in saving the lives of sick babies around the world. that's coming up next. and i'm topper shutt. 83 today's. that's about average. wakeup weather, a cold front goes through. it's going to be a great

in tonight's health alert, a new study out tonight shows a simple supplement could help save infants from deadly infections. doctors in india have shown scombling easy to take -- zinc, easy to take, low cost can save baby's lives. the study shows adding zinc to antibiotic treatment given to babies with pneumonia, sepsis or meningitis made it 40% less likely the drugs would fail. today we asked an infectious disease specialist at children's medical center about what this could mean for children around the globe. >> the infections are very serious. probably 25-30% of children die with these infections, so it's a very large proportion of children infected by this and therefore the impact of the

and there is the front rolling through the metro area. winds will turn northwestward after midnight and that will usher in some dryer air and just a fantastic thursday with temperatures just about average and low humidity. so mostly sunny and pleasant on thursday. less humid. grab your shades. and, again, maybe a light jacket early in the morning. maybe for the early bus stop kids. open the windows too because the air conditioners have been running full steam. give them a chance to catch their breath. big storms expected friday between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and we'll keep you posted on that. clear skies, breezy and cooler overnight. winds will become northwest at 10-15. by morning, mostly sunny and pleasant. 60s and 70s. winds actually calm down a little bit northwest at 10. air quality code yellow which is moderate. i think it's going to end up being good air quality. either way, it's okay. by afternoon, mostly sunny and just beautiful. you need your sunglasses, though. temps in the low 80s and winds still northwest at about 10.

let's break it down. kind of cool to start. 58-68. then by noon, mild. gorgeous. 75-80. and then 78-83 by evening. just beautiful. now, the next three days, well, showers and storms come back at us on friday. we struggle to get to 80. and some of these storms could be strong. some could be severe. the good news is we're back to pleasant on saturday with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. now, next seven days, well, more showers come back on sunday. although nothing severe. and temperatures in the mid 70s. temps go down. showers possible tuesday and wednesday and high temperatures in the low 70s. that's 10 degrees below average. but as we pointed out, we were 10 degrees above average this past weekend. >> giving the ac a break. >> exactly. we have some football action but not the nfl kind. >> i was wondering what you were going to say with that one. orioles extend their losing streak to a season worse five games. rg3 took to the field tonight at fed ex but solely as a spectator. he was one of almost 68,000 fans that packed the stadium for a rare chance to see a matchup between two top soccer teams right in the back yard. a friendly exhibition match between the united states and brazil. late in the first half brazil already up 2-0 but the u.s. answers. johnson with a pass to hercules. hercules gomez heads it in. the kings were just too strong. he boots it home. brazil wins this one 4-1. the washington wizards learned their draft fate tonight. the wizards had the second best chance of landing the number one pick and possibly anthony davis. instead they wind up -- another upset in paris today.

venus william is heading home. venus lost in straight sets. it's the earliest exit by both william sisters ever in a grand slam. eastern conference final game two on the hardwood. heat up 2 in the 4th. d wade dishes it out and pushes the lead up to 4. right now they are all tied up headed to overtime tied at 99. game one stanley cup finals. this one goes over time as well. gets a sprung on a break away. buries the game winner. kings taking 1-0 series lead. and finally tonight, alex ovechkin a lot of free time on his hand after the caps were eliminated earlier this month. he got his picture taken with wooten and then here he is in paris with his girlfriend who is playing in the french open. so he has become a world traveller. i'm sure fans wish he was still on the ice in la right now.
