let's go to monika santami this thursday morning at 5:00 a.m. with time saver traffic. we have two tough situations right now. one in the district and one just outside the district. good morning, everybody. i'm going to start off with the northbound side of 395 heading for the 12th street tunnel. there is police activity. it was the end of a high speed car chase and an accident. so let's take a live look at the 14th street bridge here or actually right here at 12th street at constitution avenue. we changed the cameras. if you're planning to head into the 12th street tunnel, watch out on 395, the southeast- southwest freeway right there. there is that accident and only the right lane is getting by if you're heading north on 395. keep that in mind for your travel plans. inside the beltway, there's an accident. this was a car into a pole, a fiery crash ended in one fatality. police investigation is ongoing there. we'll take a live look now and end with 270. no problems to report as you head in from route 121 down to the point where the lanes divide. i'll have more on the two separate accidents again at

5:09. back to you. >> thank you, moen came. after two -- monika. >> after two weeks of remembrances, d.c. will bid a final farewell to local music legend brown. >> thousands attended tuesday's viewing at how water theatre. now thousands are expected to -- howard theatre. now thousands are expected to show up for his funeral. delia goncalves is live with a preview. >> reporter: good morning. tuesday was a pretty incredible day. we're likely to see that again. organizers say this is going to be the kind of musical sendoff, the largest that the city has ever seen with local and national artists all coming to the convention center to pay tribute. several bands will be taking the stage today including the chuck brown band. the thousands of fans that we all saw lined up outside of howard theatre on tuesday will be in for quite a spectacular show. though brown's passing is certainly the end after chapter here in the district, folks have been celebrating his

once the center reefes capacity -- reaches capacity and that number is 14,500 people, the doors will be closed. organizers urge you to take public transportation to the convention center. for metro riders, the closest station is mount vernon square which is on the green and yellow lines. you can also watch the funeral live right here and online at wusa9.com. authorities have arrested an alleged white supremacist in manassas. 48-year-old douglas howard story is charged now with a felony gun violation. investigators found some evidence that story intended to buy an ak-47 assault rifle and have it modified to be fully automatic. and that is illegal. story is also accused of posting a rant on the internet saying president obama and attorney general eric holder should be removed from office with a 36 which is another type of rifle. how dangerous are pit bulls? a task force made up of

. time saver traffic. monika here. lots of news now. i'm going to start off with an ongoing situation where there was an overnight accident. this one actually happened in district heights just after 3:00 this morning. a car into a utility pole caught fire. there is one fatality involved. that's why the investigation is taking so long and it's ongoing. inside the beltway here in district heights, closed off, marlboro pike between donnell drive and silver hill road. let's take a look at the beltway south of town. i'm suggesting you use route 4 pennsylvania avenue inside the beltway as your alternate route to n. we'll go to our chart camera. if you're planning to head to the beltway on route 4 or inside the beltway, route 4 is going to be your alternate

on the michael & son weather camera, good visibility. we're mainly clear. call it partly cloudy at national with a northwesterly wind at 10. temperature of 71. the barometer is down 29.75. it will come up today and drop again tomorrow as we've got storms in the middle of the country headed our way. our weather headlines beautiful today. storms return friday. we could get some heavy weather tomorrow. some heavy downpours. it may hold off till the afternoon and evening hours but there's also a threat some of these storms could be severe. that means the potential for damaging wind gusts or even hail, a inch in diameter or larger. we're watching some of those big storms in the middle of the country approaching the mississippi valley. had some dying storms in the south. this area of unsented weather, -- unsettled weather, this is what will be moving toward us. doesn't mean we won't see a couple of showers tomorrow morning as a warm front heads this way but we're saying goodbye to beryl off to the east. then to the west we look to see what is going to approach.

convention center at 10:00 a.m. for the public to enter. the service. if tuesday is any indication, we're likely to see the first fans lining up for a prime spot inside as early as 6:30 this morning for this very historic event. organizers in fact say this will indeed be a musical sendoff for the history books. fans who grew up with chuck brown say the man and his music embodied the spirit and life of d.c. and they want to say thank you to his family for sharing him with them for so many years. many credit chuck brown as the best go go recording artist who brought many young musicians under his wing. now it's time for them to take go go to the next level. >> it should change some lives should change some people's mind set when it comes to music. but this guy was a king, he was a giant. desomething that no other person in this town ever done and that's created an art form

build an archival collection of chuck brown material. the library says it's looking for posters, photographs, ticket stubs, videos or audio recordings of brown and other go go musicians. the chief librarian jenny cooper says brown's contribution to the district should be honored. the date just about all of us remember in connection with the terrorist attacks is september 11, but new yorkers marked another ten-day anniversary yesterday at the world trade center. it took till the end of may 2002 to remove the last fallen steel beam from ground zero. people held up posters and cheered the workers who relived the horrible day, day after day and they did it for months as they sifted through the piles of rubble. president obama will welcome his predecessor. the president will unveil the official portraits of president bush and first lady laura bush and not only will george w.

bush be there, but also his father and mother president george herbert walker bush and barbara bush will be there. the event include as private lunch with the obamas and the bush families. jessica is back with a look at the local job market. >> that's right. this is another reminder we can say thank goodness we live in the washington area. the reason why? our job market is a lot stronger here than in other parts of the country. the washington region's unemployment rate held steady in april at 5.5% for the third consecutive month. the national average 8.1%. of the 3.2 million people in the region's labor force last month, close to 176,000 were unemployed. the new labor department data also showed the region added 34,500 jobs in the 12 months ending in april. that was thanks to strength in education and health services. high fructose corn syrup won't get a wholesome new name

comfortable morning with 63 in gaithersburg. it's 64 for vienna. springfield 67. upper marlboro is 64. there's our 59 from lovettsville right now and fort belvoir 63 degrees. outside on our michael & son weather camera, just a couple of clouds. high winds in the district behind the capitol dome this morning. 71 degrees with mostly sunny skies and a north, northwesterly wind at 10 miles an hour. so a great start to what's going to be a great day. tomorrow, though, going to be a much different day. look at all the storms we have from minnesota and wisconsin down into kansas, coming into missouri now and texas and oklahoma. this whole batch of unsented weather -- unsettled weather will be moving toward us and potentially strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening. we're watching beryl pull away from us. today at least we've got high pressure which is going to build in and give us that beautiful day with the sunshine and low humidity levels. as we head into the overnight period, we may see a few showers develop to our west out here by tomorrow morning.

nearly 700,000 americans became u.s. citizens last year through naturalization ceremonies. as they wrap up the school year, students at kent gardens elementary has now been to one of those ceremonies. they got a really close civics lesson, a personal one as their teacher became an american. kristin fisher has more from the naturalization ceremony which was in mclean.

>> reporter: these are the final moments before richard gordon becomes a u.s. citizen. it's a moment that's been nearly 20 years in the making. >> i came to america in 1993. i brought my wife and two young daughters. >> reporter: the australian has been teaching sixth grade english and history at kent gardens elementary for 13 years. for the last nine months his students have had a special assignment. help mr. gordon pass his naturalization test. >> we went through the questions. they quizzed me. i quizzed them. >> if he got it wrong, he had to bring us donuts and he only got one wrong out of a hundred questions. >> i passed the test and here i am today. i'm a new american citizen. it was enormously touching. i had no idea it was going to be this big. i'm so proud. it's a wonderful country. i hope i can give back to america what i've given to my family. >> reporter: there were 18 people from 18 different
