. breaking news right now. five children injured after being hit by a woman in an suv in a driveway. >> our ken molestina is live in lewis dale, maryland. and, ken, any word on the condition of those little ones? >> reporter: yes. derek and anita, unfortunately police have confirmed that the little ones are ranging from serious to very critical condition. all of them were rushed to

children's hospital earlier tonight. take a look over my shoulder. you can see a very active scene out here. let's go ahead and role the cell phone video shot by a neighbor right when the moments happen. according to police, a woman was inside of an suv. she did not know that the five children were playing behind the suv. put the suv into reverse and crushed all five children. according to police, we understand that that woman driver is the mother of at least one of those children. she could potentially be the mother of more than one. we understand the five children ranging in -- sent to the hospital ranging from serious to critical condition. take a listen to what police have to say about all of this just a couple minutes ago. >> there was a vehicle accident that occurred in the driveway of the residents down the street. the lady was in the vehicle backed up. five children were struck.

the vehicle continued and lodged into the ground in the rear portion of the house. the exact injuries at this time are unknown. the children -- all five children were taken to children's hospital in washington dc. >> all right. back out live here. a couple of tidbits to pass on to you. i was able to speak to a neighbor who rushed over to try and help these children. the five children. he tells me we're talking about two young girls and three young boys. police confirm their age ranges from about 1 and a half years old up to 11 years old. but, again, those children taken to children's hospital in washington ranging from serious to critical condition tonight. and police out here still trying to figure out exactly what happened. why this driver did not notice that the five children were behind and what led up to this tragedy out here. back to you guys. >> so many injuries. okay, ken. thank you. we also have to get ready. we are in store for some nasty weather tomorrow. topper shutt joins us.

>> we declared friday a severe weather alert day. we looked back to the west and saw a lot of thunderstorms in kentucky and tennessee. that is the same front that will generate storms here and possibly some severe weather. we're talking about damaging winds as well. there's things you can do for tomorrow. get inside if you're around tomorrow night. but before you leave the house, you can search lose objects. lower your deck or patio umbrella down and during the storms stay away from the windows. we'll come back and break it down hour by hour for you and look ahead to the weekend. >> thank you, topper. a law enforcement source tells the associated press it is unlikely the justice department will retry john edwards. he had been on trial in north carolina accused of using campaign donations to hide his extramarital affair during his run for the presidency in 2008. but today a jury found him not guilty on one count, couldn't agree on the five other counts, so the judge declared a hung jury and therefore a mistrial. after edwards talked to

reporters. >> while i do not believe i did anything illegal or ever thought i was ever doing anything illegal, i did an awful, awful lot that was wrong. >> edwards says he hold himself accountable for the sins he committed against his family, especially his late wife elizabeth. a bill that would make it illegal to have an abortion based on the gender. the vote was 246-168. 30 votes short of the majority. 20 democrats voted for it while 7 republicans against it. now, this practice is most common in asian countries where families wanting sons abort female fetuses. >> they oppose gender discrimination in all forms, but the end result of this legislation to be to subject doctors to criminal prosecution if they fail to determine the motivation behind a very personal and private decision. >> for most of us, it is a girl

something like this that would occur. >> reporter: detectives found a human head and two hands. but that's not all. the suspect then told them he could find the rest of the victim's body in a dumpster in a church parking lot less than a mile away. >> he admitted to cutting him up and consuming parts of his body, his brain and heart. >> reporter: they were friends and roommates . they lived together with his family while attending the university. he was reported missing last friday. now they're checking to make sure it's a match. >> it's horrible. we cannot believe what has taken place. >> reporter: him and his family are from kenya but they have lived here for the last 10 years. >> we see the family coming and going. they've always seem like really good people. they are good people. so we can't believe what happens. >> reporter: in fact, according to charging documents, it was his family that turned him in. his brother found the body parts

in the basement and the father called police. the confession came quick. but an explanation for why he did what he did never came. >> he said nothing about that and he gave no motive. >> at the time of the arrest, the suspect was already out on bond for attacking another student with a baseball bat two weeks ago. now he's being held without bond at the hartford county detention center. he's been charged with stealing funds but harry thomas junior has to repay the city more than $350,000. at the same time, though, that federal judge says thomas will not have to repay another 90,000 bucks diverted from a city drug program to pay for a 209 inaugural balance. it could have been a series of odd moments turned into a good thing. laura bush and sdwrorj bush returned to their -- george bush

stick with chocolate. all right. on a serious note, we have a severe weather out look tomorrow. a slight risk of severe weather which could be moderate and we have declared friday a severe weather day. let's look at the weather brought to you by michael and son. 85 was the high. it didn't feel like it because the humidity was so low. the dew points are in the 50s. that's great. when they're in the 50s, you can open up the windows. but don't open them up all the way. you might get a little chilly by the morning. winds east, southeast at 9. the pressure steady 2.9 inches of mercury. by 7:00 tomorrow, we're dry. the morning commute should be dry. we'll have some clouds come in. and we'll put this into motion. get into the lunch hour 12:00, 1:00. a warm front actually goes through which is not a good thing. that's going to make our air more unstable in the afternoon. but still not much happening at 1:00, 2:00 in the afternoon. now we begin to advance it. now we get the bright colors, the red, the oranges, the

moderate activity. this is about 5:45. big thunderstorms to the west of us. leesburg on the east side of i81. they extend all the way down to culpeper and past orange. another hour about 7:45. now we see a straight line of thunderstorms east of hagerstown and west of frederick due south right through manassas and right through loudoun county. now, we get to 8:45. now we're getting into portions of montgomery county. we're crossing the river and getting into the district and also crossing over into charles county. and then by 9:45, 10:00, it's big time thunderstorms from the district now east of 95 into prince george's county and charles county. probably take until 10:00 to get everything across the bay. i think this is a little bit slow. but we have widened our window of critical times a little bit. in fact, we widen it a little bit from 4:00 to now 10:00. so severe weather alert day tomorrow. a dry morning commute. that's the only silver lining i have for you tonight really.
