average high 81, maybe the end of the week. here's a look at your day planner monday morning. hope you had a good weekend. back to reality. 72 by noon, breezy, partly sunny. then this afternoon, we are going to have mid-70s, with an isolated shower too, north and east of washington for that. we are showing you some of these showers overnight that hit across the region, again had most that have activity north and east during the overnight. but they always had moved away from us. we are left with cool temperatures in spots. culpepper and manassas 54. we think that maybe in a couple of nights, tonight again in the 50s, but tuesday night, we will be seeing some 40s. this afternoon 70, arlington 74. off to the east, behind our 9.com 75 degrees. let's go to monika samtani

right now. >> reporter: temperatures are looking good and so are the roadways. timesaver traffic, no problems to report. all around the beltway right now and 270 also looking great out of gaithersburg, between 270 and the american legion bridge all lanes are open. here's what it looks like coming in from route 50. no problems to report all the way to the beltway. back over to the maps, this time to southern maryland, route 5, route 301, everything looking fine from the southern maryland side of things. another live look outside right now. if you are planning to head on the beltway near route 4, you will be just fine this morning. coming up in my next report, we'll go west at 5:09. thank you. your money troubles top today's

news. >> we were so excited about 13,000, now at 12, we are hoping. >> we are hoping. that's right. this is a pretty tough spot for investors to start from this morning. we had a big selloff, of course friday. that's raced all of our gains for the year and this morning our problems have not magically vanished over the weekend. so far today global stocks fell again. here's where we stand on wall street. the dow dropped 275 points. starts today at 12118. that is about 100 points below where we started 2012. the nasdaq fell by 80, the s & p 500 was down by 32 points. friday the dismal jobs report led to the worst trading of the year. as your debt crisis remains unresolved. the market's worst month in two years, put it all towing, results of all those declined. s & p 500 declined nearly 10%.

what that means is the broader stock market is approaching what investors cull a correction. investors may not get much of a break today because of what likely happened over the weekend. people grabbed their newspaper, opened it up and read about the deeply dis.ing jobs report for friday. it shows the may jobless rate inching up to 8.2%. also, employers created only 69,000 net new jobs, the fewest in a year. the government also revised figures from march and april down, now saying 4000 fewer jobs were created, so as a result of opening up that newspaper they are probably calling their brokers today and saying help, get me out of here. we are likely to see more losses. >> it is the second time the government estimates for job creation has been wrong. there was something wrong with the parameters? >> no, we have seen this multiple times. these are all estimates. so when they get the real data in, they have a tendency to

rise. seasonal factors tend to effect things. >> people will be waiting on more news from the feds in the coming weeks? >> right. the problem is there is not much they can do, at this point. rates are basically at 0 per sent. they have been talking about buying mortgage backed securities and other ways to tweak the economy. it is not like you can look overseas. europe is a disaster area. so we have sore of been the best worst place in the world. we continue to stay there but the feds are going to have to do some creative think. >> do you have something nice to tell us in the next half hour? >> no. actually, i'm going to talk about how there are some challenges to starring a small business in the give. a recently released metro report. >> they have closed poorly marked signs and doors.

delia is live where metro's gm is expected to talk to riders this morning. good morning delia, what's he going to tell them? >> good morning andrea. he has good news about a new enhanced rush hour program to ease crowded results for rush hour passengers. to talk about that troubled report released earlier today. the washington examiner got their hands on an inspection report. that shows repeated failures by the rail system to address problems despite warnings in 2011 and 2010. listen these could be devastating in an emergency when thousands of people are forced to evacuate the trains. inspectors found violations like emergency signs that were poorly lit or even pointed you in the wrong direction. even more troubling, emergency doors that were pleatly blocked. for instance some by bushes,

others, heavy equipment. inpicture tors found doors that required 35 pounds to open instead of 15 pounds, months to fix small problems, band aid repairs that didn't help and exits that inspectors simply could not find at three stations. now, according to the paper, the gm richard sorelle has created a new position in order to address these problems. that position is within the safety testimony and that is fire marshal. but we have no word as to what their status is, at this point. we have already reached out to the spokesperson with metro, hoping to talk to richard sorelles when he does get here. we are told it could be in the 6:00 hour or so. back to you. >> she is lucky to be alive. a riverdale woman nearly died

when a car crashed into her bedroom. michelle solis awoke to find one of the car's tires rolling over her head and a strong smell of gasoline. paramedics wheeled her out of her home. she suffered only minor injuries. prince george's county police are investigating and so far they have not filed any charges. of five tornadoes, three were in montgomery county, one was in prince george's county and carol county. another tornado in carol and have been classified far there were a couple of ef-1 twisters in howard and hartford county. thousands of homeowners have lots of damage to deal with this coming week. >> cutting up all the downpoured trees, insurance adjusters were everywhere, scoping out the damage from the weekend. those estimates expect to be in

the millions of dollars. the two tornadoes confirmed in virginia were both well south of the metro area. that damaged many homes there and cars as well. debris littered the hardest hit neighborhoods with trees and power lins are still in the road. heavy equipment has been brought in to speed up some of the debris removal. there was another tornado that hit in hampton, virginia. there are new developments in the trayvon martin case. >> two of the marquis stars foul out in overtime. plus a feathered mystery as an unusual-looking bird suddenly appears in a neighborhood. we'll be right back.

plane crash in the country's largest city. a national airliner went down. all 153 people died. it is not known how many people on the ground also per rushed. the man charged with murdering florida teen frame trayvon martin is back in jail. this is after the court determined zimmerman and his wife lied about their finances. on a much lighter note, no answer yet to the mystery of the white peacock. the bird showed up in a boise, idaho neighborhood last night, strutting around on a rooftop and screeching. neighbors had been making calls but so far can't figure out where the bird came from, or who owns it. they are worried about their dogs going after this bird. the space shuttle has been in place for weeks, but there was some shuttle shuffling over

to start. >> we like it for june. that is surprising. going to save a company of bucks on the ac bills. this morning we have temperatures down in the 50s and 60s. as we head to the afternoon once again, we could be looking at a shower or two. kind of like yesterday. i think the next few afternoons will feature these showers here and there. your bus stop forecast, 50s and 60s, we have a pretty morning out there. winds are fairly light now. that is going to change later with the sunrise in a little while. 5:43 getting light outside, assess specially off to the east. and a good deal of sunshine at least to start the day, by how much time, we'll be in the low 70s with winds out of the northwest at 16 miles per hour, gusting over 20 at times. definitely a breeze breezy day. there could be that isolated shower late in afternoon and evening, especially north and east of dc, winds will slacken later tonight. showers overnight. a company of wet streaks, especially north and east of

town. everything eastern pennsylvania and southern jersey. that is all gone. baltimore 59. also 59 in winchester, gaithersburg, culpepper in the mid-50s right now. as we look a little bit closer, upper 50s in columbia, 58. 60 in arlington and springfield 59. in our michael and son weather camera, just a couple of clouds off to the east. 63 degrees with a calm wind right now at reagan national and the barometer 29. 29.67. in the 70s the next few days, with mainly afternoon showers mainly becoming a little bit more than just the afternoon on a wednesday. it is a thursday, still a shower threat through thursday. as we head through the weekend, we will be much warmer. highs in the mid to upper 80s for saturday and sunday. locally we have the storm

system, this is what brought us the severe weather the tornadoes on friday. still bringing rain. behind it these disturbances are following one last night. we'll get a couple moreover the next few days, what that means is we are going to pop the afternoon showers here and there, especially north and east of town. you lose the daytime heating and the shower threat diminishes and that pattern is going to repeat itself. today 75, breezy. tomorrow after we start in the 50s, we'll be only in the low 70s. pleasant, but it will be the afternoon shower storm again on wednesday. 73. thursday mid-70s and here's your warmth for the weekend, mid to upper 80s. monika samtani, how is it looking? >> reporter: timesaver traffic, if you are planing to head around town, actually, things are looking get. north side of town first looking good on the beltway.

from baltimore let's take a live look outside and tell what you it looks like here northbound of i-95 from springfield looking good coming up from woodbridge all the way to this point and to 35. i have been checking out the cameras and everything looked great. back to the map and this time over to the west side of town. no problems on 66 out of centerville over to fairfax and vena. the beltway looking good all the way down into springfield and no problems on the toll road out of the airport in leesburg. let's go back over to our live cameras and no problems to report on the beltway north of town here at university boulevard. outer loop looks great. coming up in my next report, we'll look at 270. back to you guys. the national at home. and tiger woods has now tied the man he is chasing for one of the records.

on this monday morning, had a couple of showers overnight. they are now up to delaware and pulling away from us. as we head to the 9:00 hour, partly sunny. upper 60s here. low to mid-60s north of town. midday it looks fine. however a few showers popping here toward lunch time. you may see a couple of them straggle into the area. andrea and mike. >> thank you howard. this morning both nba series are tied at two games apiece. game four in boston went to overtime. when miami missed a jumper at the end of regulation. in overtime the celtics main star, paul pierce, called for an offensive foul. he fouls out of the game. minutes later the other end of the floor lebron james commits an offensive foul.

ray john robbed dough ends up hitting a floater. which would turn out to be the game winner. boston takes the game 93-91. the series tied at two games apiece. >> reporter: good morning, everybody. the braves nationals rivalry has been a little bit one sided as of late washington. the last six times these two teams have faced off, including saturday's shutout. yesterday afternoon they got out to a promising start. the first two batters, another from bryce harper and just like that, it is 2-0 nats. tommy hanson found his groove after that, and that was all that the nats would give gonzalez. he blows a 2-0 lead. he lasted less than five innings, his third shortest outing of the year. the braves take a 3-2 lead into

the ninth. espinoza one last hit. despite the loss though, gonzalez has been impressive throughout the month of may. before the game he was named national league pitcher of the month, finishing may with a 5-0 record. bryce harper honored as well, named national league rookie of the month. and yesterday tiger woods returns to true form, impressive play from him and including this shot on 16 that even jack nicklaus called the best he had ever seen. this is tiger's third pga victory tying him with nicholas for most all time. >> the dc city council is supposed to give final approval for next year's budget.

home. john hasston is accused of murdering williams and stealing items from his home. a second defendant craig brooks staked out the home the day before the murder by pretending to be a pep co-employee. a judge sentenced mots matos -- matos to 25 years in prison. in april he was convicted on two counts of asaul and other gun charges. last august, matos shot and critically wounded two-year-old deandre johnson. >> we just hope, as we grow, he will be able to understand and get through this. because he is going to have to explain this to people, they are going to ask questions. he has a scar on his mouth here and he has this trach in his throat. he has had to get his throat

reconstructed. he is going to have to get surgery on his bottom mouth, he is never going to grow adult teeth. >> reporter: deandre's grandmother says with love from his family, he will have as normal a life as possible. if there was an emergency while you were riding a metro train, would you be able to escape? the washington examiner has found a variety of problems with metro's emergency exits. 9news now reporter delia gonzalez has details. >> reporter: the results of this inspection that was released by the examiner certainly very troubling. what is more disturbing though, inspectors say that metro didn't do much to fix these problems, despite being warned in 2011 ask then again in 2010. the paper got their hands on an inspection report that shows repeated failures by the rail system. i want suspect tors found

violations like emergency signs that were poorly lit or pointed you in the completely wrong direction. even more troubling, emergency doors that were blocked. inspectors also found, get this, 15 stations that had doors that required 35 pounds of force to open, fire officials say you need 15 pounds only to open emergency doors. inspectors say it took months to fix small problems there were band aid repairs that didn't help and exits that could not be found at three metro stations in the area. the gm, richard sorelles, will be here to talk about a new enhanced rush hour program they are launching in about two weeks. we will talk to him live at 6:30 and hopefully address some of these issues. coming up at 6:00, we'll let you know what we know so far about what metro is doing to address the problems the inspectors found in their report. back to you andrea.

>> we have been looking forward to that. tomorrow the dc city council is scheduled to vote on final approval for the fiscal 2013 budget. the council unanimously gave preliminary approval last month. if passed as is, next year's budget is $9 million. it would double the number of parking cameras and extend the hours of city bars. the revenue raising measures are designed to close a $42 million shortfall. jessica doyle is back with another look at the district through the eyes of small business owners. >> that's right. it is report card time. the district got pretty lousy grades, when it comes to small business owners. the washington examiner reports they give the district an overall score of d plus in the survey, based on things like friendliness, regulations, training programs and health and safety. dc rates high for its economy

and for its program and established businesses. but the district earned an f, for ease of starting a small business as owners very vade repeatedly said the process was cumbersome. the findings were released. two national banks say nearly 1000 homeowners in prince william county and manassas are eligible for assistance through the $25 billion national mortgage settlement. representatives of bank of america and jp morgan chase made these announcements at a community meeting sunday. preens william county was particularly hard hit by the wave of foreclosures in recent years. here's one way to get a job with billionaire investor warren buffett. he has hired the hedge fund manager who within the last two auctions of private lunches with him. buffett said it is miraculous.

good morning, welcome back to 9news now. our time is 5:45 on this monday morning. off to a good start of the week. >> beautiful out there right now. the air is relatively dry. it is comfortably cool in the 50s and 60s. i think that is a really good start to the week. despite the rain a slight chance for something later on in the afternoon. here's your bus stop forecast, partly cloudy and comfortable.

temperatures in the 50s and 60s. the sunrise was just a couple of minutes ago. i think in the afternoon too a few more clouds, daytime heating. northwest winds are going to pick up. busting to 25. mid-afternoon will be 74 here at 3:00. late often we could see an isolated shower or two, especially north and east of washington. looking at it from last night, the radar going back about six hours or so. we have these showers coming in north of town, east of town. everything is moving southeast. right now we have stuff still in new jersey and northern delaware, but it has cleared our region rather nicely. many of the suburbs it is 52 at culpepper and winchester. 54. easton is 57. we are looking south southeast.

there is the beltway. just a few clouds off to the south. 63 degrees, humidity is 67%. the winds right now are going to be picking up. we are still dealing with the same storm system from friday. clusters of severe thunderstorms this morning scattered from oklahoma down in toward areas of alabama and south carolina. this is the system that gave us our severe weather try. behind us, it is dragging down impulses following the storm. we had one last night pass us. over the next few days the pattern will be brick bringing -- bringing the occasional impulse. here we are at noon, notice showers in pennsylvania and jersey, coming into extreme northeastern maryland. some of these will rotate through us, that is why we have a threat for a shower or two by this afternoon. not much left over, but a

walker, since he has been in office, is supposed to severely him. philadelphia has been named as the host city for the world's next meeting of families. pope benedict xvi announced the meeting as the current meeting of families was wrapping up in milan, italy. today a star studded concert including sir elton i don't know and sir paul mccartney will celebrate queen liz weather's diamond jubilee. sunday the 86-year-old and her family celebrated on warnings. she became queen after the death of her father. allen her lick has written a book called rabbit's foot, a

gift from my father a story that is especially meaningful with father's day coming up if two weeks. thanks for being up so early in the morning. >> i read the book. i really enjoyed it, we can't give away too much of it. it is lovely how you started at one end and brought it full circle. but why did you want to write a book about a relationship from a machine's.of view, with his father. >> a couple of things, i think what all of us have been going through the last few years has been depressing. tough times. it sounds a little corny, but i just wanted to write a book that would make people feel better and make people remember as you are going through things with work or danger or whatever it may be, health, you can go back to basics,your family. and i think generations before us learned that during the depression. it was a good thing. it made them go back to their core values. also, i was inspired by my dad.

it is not an autobiography, but you know, he was a terrific man, and i love him when i was about 18 years old. so i did want to remember him with sort of a legacy. >> the gift your father gave you, you talk about a give from my father, what was the most important significant gift that he gave you? >> i would say it was more than anything else, trying to teach me to appreciate every moment. of we have seen so many stories and prison to make that. you think of thornton wilder's our town. our life flies by, we are surrounded by people i hope we love and people who love us. maybe slow down a little bit and appreciate what you have. >> you talk about friendship, keeping friends and keeping
