the beltway through annandale where there had been early morning construction. then it was replaced by an accident. a couple of issues but overall i can't say it's terrible. on the northbound side of i-95, it's just the normal slow stuff leaving woodbridge across the river. pace improves a little bit and slows down again in springfield. you can see the volumes increasing as you head up north and then we'll go to 395. on the northbound side of 395 in chirlingson on our have -- shirlington on our vdot camera. no big deals yet. let's head out west to 66 on the inbound side. again slow traffic between manassas and centreville and then again as you leave fairfax to the beltway. we'll take a live look outside once again taking a look with the sunshine in your eyes. inbound 66, that could be a factor this morning. in my next report we'll go to the north side of town at 6:11. back to you. police just cleared the scene of a deadly crash in northern virginia. it took the life of an 8-year- old child and a woman and left

several others hurt. >> the crash was just after 11:00 last night at lee highway in germantown road in the city of fairfax. delia goncalves is live there this morning with the latest on what we know. over to you. >> pretty devastating accident. as daylight breaks, we can see a little more of what police and investigators have determined so far at the scene. you can see some of the markings on the road here. we have spoken to a couple of eyewitnesses. according to eyewitnesses, the sedan was traveling in the far lane. that's the eastbound lane where you can see this traffic heading in that direction. that's where the eyewitness said the sedan was traveling in that direction when it t-boned the minivan that was taking the left turn into the shopping plaza. it's not confirmed by police but the eyewitness tells us the minivan was then thrown about 45 feet knocking down a pole and landing right over here. we can see the markings of each tire back here in the westbound lanes. this dramatic video just fed into our newsroom a short time

ago shows fire crews rescuing the 38-year-old male driver of the minivan. we're told he's in critical condition. the sedan burst immediately into flames. a woman driving the car died instantly. an 8-yard passenger died at the hospital and a 6-year-old we're told is in critical condition. >> i've never seen an accident that bad, never. >> reporter: the car burned up instantly, right? >> yeah. you couldn't even tell what vehicle it was. it's devastating to know that that took place. it's heartbreaking. it really is. >> reporter: something that stays with you. you can't go to a scene and not think about it. >> it's something you'll never forget. i mean, it's always going to be in the back of your mind every time, especially when you drive past this area. >> reporter: tommy aldridge who

works for vdot showed us the pieces of the broken rim of the sedan, an indication of how far and how fast this sedan was traveling. police have not confirmed these details for us. they haven't confirmed in which direction the cars were traveling or who may be at fault here. we don't know if alcohol was a factor. however, they have said without a doubt speed was certainly a factor in this deadly collision. back you to, mike. >> so sad. delia goncalves live in fairfax, virginia this morning. the southern avenue metro station is back open now after a deadly shooting there last night around 9:30. this was at one of the bus bays at the greenline station. prince george's county police are investigating. they have not released the name of the victim or the reason for the shooting so far. they are still looking for whoever pulled the trigger. are speed cameras legal? a lot of people who get caught by them wish they weren't.

today maryland's highest court will take up that question. state law says fees given to contractors which run the camera cannot be contingent on the number of tickets given out. a lawyer who got a ticket four years ago says the county is breaking that law with its camera program. even if the scour agrees, people who already paid fees will not be eligible for a refund. a vote on metro's silver line. an agreement includes union friendly incentives and it's been under fire from governor bob mcdonnell as well as other republicans in richmond and loudoun county. the county is threatening to with hold the funding unless the pla is taken off the table. a teenager accused of attacking to girls while walking to school is now in police custody. the loudoun county sheriff's office will only identify the suspect as a 16-year-old from

sterling, virginia. a 12 and 14-year-old girl both said the teen tried to assault them monday morning. they say this happened near the seneca ridge middle school in sterling as they were going to school. a friend of the girls apparently chased off this alleged attacker. that suspect is now in a juvenile detention center. 6:06. we have an update on our 9 wants to know series on teen drinking. the liquor store that we caught selling booze to underage kids goes before the d.c. alcohol beverage regulation administration now. that board is considering whether or not to renew that store's license. we learned that the store was known for selling alcohol to teenagers and last month the owner richard kim was found guilty of doing that. he will be sentenced tomorrow. 6:06. jessica doyle is here with another your money report. >> she says the business of counterfeit goods is booming. >> that is right. it's going gang busters. we're not just talking about

knockoffs of designer purses. there is a potential health danger. seizures of counterfeit pharmaceuticals were up 200% last year. recent cases have included counterfeit verges of the cancer drug evass continue found in dock -- evastin found in doctors' offices and adderall. consumer need to study their medications, know where they're sold and what they look like. snacking at the office, that can pack on the pounds. a new career builder survey found two in five workers say they actually gained weight in their current positions. 26% of them report gaining over ten pounds. 14% gamed over 20 pounds. the workers most likely to gain weight at work, travel agents, attorneys or judges, social workers and teachers. journalists not making that list. we know the super rich can have the best of everything. cars, jewelry, what have you. but how much do they earn and

let's go to our maps now. overall the beltway is final. you have a couple of slow spots as you can see but insides the beltway at duke street about 48 miles an hour. i think we can deal with that. let's take a live look at the northbound side of 395 right there at duke street. again a little less than 48 miles an hour. here as you head for seminary road and then the pace improves to the 14th street bridge. let's go back over to our maps and this time to the north side of town if you're planning to head over to the beltway on the outer loop, yup, the rush hour definitely in full force here leaving the 95 interchange heading toward silver spring. in fact we'll take a live look at colesville road on the outer loop. you can see that slow traffic inner loop still looks okay. maybe a little slow into the sunshine right around college park. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at 270 at 6:43. a resounding win for the governor of wisconsin. republican scott walker fought back against a recall effort tuesday. he beat the democrat tom barrett 53% to 46%. >> so what impact does this

germantown road. >> this is so sad. delia goncalves has been live at the scene all morning long with what we know so far. delia? >> reporter: pretty devastating accident. police are still investigating several hours after this accident happened at 11:00 last night. they're not we leasing a whole lot of information about crash. however, i've been able to talk to a couple of witnesses who both say the same thing and point to some of the markings on the road here. they tell us that the sedan carrying the woman and two children was traveling in the far eastbound lane where you see that traffic coming down the road there and they say that sedan collided with a minivan that was making a left turn into the shopping plaza across the street. fire crews had to rescue the trapped male driver of the minivan. we're told the 38-year-old is in critical condition. sat dan burst into flames instantly killing a woman behind the wheel. an 8-year-old passenger we're

told died at the popt. a 6-year-old -- hospital. a 6-year-old still fighting for life in critical condition. >> that's what it appears that the minivan was turning in and got t-boned. i know the minivan was pushed 45 feet after it got hit. >> reporter: that's tommy aldridge who works as an engineer on vdot roads. he showed us a piece of broken rim off the sedan as an indication of just how fast that vehicle was traveling. if you take a look back here live on the scene of east lee highway, you can see that the posted speed limit is marked at 45 miles per hour. we don't know at this point in the investigation just how fast that car was traveling. we only have the word of some eyewitnesses here. however, police have not confirmed the exact speed of that car. however, police are telling us with certainty that speed was definitely a factor in this deadly collision.

mike, andrea, back to you. >> thanks, delia live in fairfax, virginia this morning. here's some video you will see only on 9news now. police slapped the cuffs on a driver of an suv after the man hit a maryland state police cruiser. our cameras were there along route 50 near route 193 underpass in bowie last night. investigators say the state trooper was stationed at a work zone and the driver supposedly hit the car. police arrested the driver and at this point we don't know if drugs or alcohol played a role in this or not. the d.c. council is meeting behind closed doors to discuss a possible new chairman. they're concerned chairman kwame brown may have to resign. bruce johnson reports there is a federal investigation into brown's 2008 campaign. here's how kwame brown responded. >> i don't think i broke any laws in the 2008 campaign. that's all i'm going to say about the 2008 campaign. >> prosecutors are looking into whether chairman brown benefited from campaign funds steered to his brother's campaign firm and the

investigation may be growing. brown also raised eyebrows yesterday for allegedly shoving wtop radio reporter mark seagraves. brown did not respond to questions about that. watch out, speed demons. beginning today, more than two dozen new speed cameras in the district will be issuing fines. for the last month, they've only been giving out warnings. one of the new cameras is along pennsylvania avenue near alabama avenue in southeast. there are also two on the southeast-southwest freeway. one in the 9th street tunnel and two more on georgia avenue in northwest. for a complete list of the new cameras, go to wusa9.com. look under morning show. in just the last month, maryland's two casinos brought more than 14.5 million. most of that money made at a slots parlor in perryville. the state's newest and largest casino opens its doors near the anne arundel mills mall in hanover. you'll have 3200 slot machines available tonight and then

another 1500 installed later this summer. the gambling starts at 10:00 p.m. at 6:36, jessica doyle is watching your money. >> wall street's favorite soap opera, the facebook stock. >> that's right. some investors may be getting a check to compensate them for taking a bath on facebook's stock. nasdaq reportedly plans to cut those checks for investors who lost money because of technical glitches. no word yet on just how much it plans to compensate them. banks and trading firms lost a total of $100 million because of the trading delay. in the meantime facebook stock continues to fall. lost another 4% tuesday. now down more than 30% from its initial public offering price of $38. having an office at the office may be endangered. more and more companies are taking a sledgehammer to walls. they're even getting rid of cubicals instead creating free flowing layouts for their

because the heat is on the way as we head into the weekend. it's june after all. having temps in the 40s is a little unusual for sure. we do have some coastal flood issues. high tide, got a full moon the other night and winds to the south will push tides one to two feet above normal. so right around d.c. and anne arundel county, baltimore, we could see some of those two- foot high tides. the rest of the areas, one, one and a half feet should do it so minor coastal flooding. we're looking at a comfortable morning. partly sunny to mostly cloudy. temperatures in the upper 40s to upper 50s. isolated shower should really be lone shower. that's over toward oxford on the eastern shore. we'll have the partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies today. a lot of these clouds, maybe the high thin ones, we get enough sun to bleed through. 70 at noon. light winds out of the south. south winds 5 to 10 this afternoon. a spotty shower. best chances for showers will be west and southwest of washington. in fact, you can see them this

morning down from charlottesville to lynchburg, down into the carolinas. some of those high clouds is what's spilling over to us. to the north more sunshine. to the east which is that lone shower near oxford. we see the greens, yellows and oranges. this is definitely weakening. gaithersburg is the cool spot right now at 48 with culpeper 55. as we look outside on our michael & son weather camera, a pretty morning. 59 degrees with calm winds and that barometer is rising right now. 29 and 99. there's the disturbance. it will be sliding off to the east. areas south and southwest a better chance of showers let's say. as lieu at the future cast, that's what we're expecting, to pop up mainly west of town. a better chance tomorrow afternoon for showers and storms. today we're looking at temperatures 70, 75. green on the weather alerts we're doing. tomorrow a weather alert. after starting in the 50s we'll
