the information document charges that person one who is kwame's brown opened a signed bank account for the campaign and then repeatedly made expenditures with the candidate's approval exceeding legal campaign limit. in january kwame brown had predicted the federal probe would find nothing improper about his 2008 campaign. >> you are totally innocent of any wrongdoing, other members of your campaign totally have done nothing wrong? >> i have done absolutely nothing wrong, bruce. >> reporter: other members of your campaign, your father, your brother? >> i don't think so. >> federal prosecutors wouldn't comment on the new charge today. kwame brown now the former council chairman was unavailable, but is expected to talk tomorrow after his appearance in federal court. the deal calls for brown to admit to a felony bank fraud charge from when he submitted false documents through industrial bank to acquire a home equity loan and buy a boat. meanwhile outside the council chairman's offices kwame brown's name has been taken

investigation we've worked on now more than six months. richard kim, owner of town square market now facing two years probation for selling alcohol to minor, part of the sentence handed down by a superior court judge today. received a 30 day suspended jail sentence, a $550 fine and 20 hours of community service. kim was arrested in february after police caught him selling beer and vodka to a 17-year-old high school student. after today's hearing kim said he wants to get rid of that store. >> reporter: i regret i even opened the store. i don't want the business anymore. i want to go back to construction. >> kim wants to sell the store as soon as he, can but his legal troubles aren't done yet. on july 25th d.c.'s alcohol control board will decide whether the town square market owner loses his liquor license. the falls church man convicted of a sex offense after police tracked him with a gps is asking the virginia supreme court to throw out that

conviction. the jury found david fultz guilty of abduction in '08. he was sentenced to life in prison. now his attorneys argue the case was inadmissible because police used gps to track him without a warrant and the u.s. supreme court ruled that's unconstitutional. prosecutors argue the crime committed of separate from the reason for the gps -- was separate from the reason for the gps. growing but in danger, that's how federal reserve chair ben bernanke describes our economy. he was on capitol hill giving his latest economic forecast and said he expects moderate growth but added threats to the recovery are still out there. he outlined three of them, debt in europe and hire in this country plus what he -- here in this country plus what he calls the fiscal cliff. that's what happens if you allow the bush era tax cuts to expire combined with major spending cuts at end of the year. >> are you telling us if we allow nothing to happen and see all these taxes increase there

will be a direct impact on economic growth and job creation? >> i'm looking not just to the taxes but the sequester and the end of the payroll tax and everything else, yes. >> bernanke says the fed is ready to act to stimulate the economy but gave no clues as to what he has in mind. the fed will hold its next meeting in under two weeks. you win some and lose some. we told you yesterday about the millions of dollars virginia is spending to keep redskins headquarters and the training camp in their state. now comes word that another big company, exxon mobil, is pulling out of virginia. two years from now exxon mobil plans to pack up and move its 2,100 impedes from their fairfax offices off -- employees from their fairfax offices off to texas. >> impact to fairfax county is less than it would have been 30 years ago when they first arrived. today we have 620,000 jobs and we're about to lose 2,100. so the economic impact is not devastating. >> virginia's governor bob mcdonnell said, "obviously it's a lot of jobs.

i'm disappointed." phase two of the silver line has one more big hurdle before it get back on track. that is, securing support from loudoun county. the county's board of supervisors will vote next month on whether to opt in or out of the project. as peggy fox tells us, some of them still have deep reservations about signing on. >> reporter: building metrorail past dulles airport into loudoun county will bring huge economic gains to loudoun including some 40,000 jobs over 20 years says economist stephen fuller. >> this is a no brainer. >> reporter: but loudoun board member ken reid doesn't buy it. >> unfortunately there are a lot of people who have stars in their eyes about this and they think it's going to improve their real estate values and bring all these great jobs and we're going to have a little bethesda, but that's very speculative. >> reporter: he thinks ridership will be very low and he dislikes being connected to

metro and all of its costs. >> they are best paid drivers are being paid $66,000 a year on average and some of these people make six figures on overtime which is more than we pay our teachers. >> reporter: if loudoun opts out, commuters could probably still use a dulles metrorail station, but they'd probably want to be dropped off because that garage next to where the station will be built costs $17 a day. airport authority ceo jackpotter hopes loudoun joins in. >> what they get is again development around the stations, convenience for the folks who live in loudoun to access the metro to get to work. >> reporter: but there's still hope for metro to loudoun even with naysayers like ken reid if there's money for roads in the plan. >> if we can set aside a special fund that will include a highway project and our buses, then i could support that maybe. >> reporter: that would involve a tax hike which is never an easy task. peggy fox, 9 news now. >> now loudoun residents could access the other stations in fairfax county, but it costs a

lot to park there and would there be adequate space? nobody knows. the loudoun board is scheduled to vote july 3rd. work on the silver line could cause traffic problems on the dulles connector road tonight. at 9:30 the eastbound lanes will be shut down between the beltway and exit 19, dolly madison boulevard. traffic on the connector road will detour to the outer loop and take exit 46b chain bridge road and all the lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. >> our day surely started off nice, sun, warm temperatures, low humidity, but this afternoon there were some storms out there. that's why top issued that yellow alert. how's it look tonight? >> they're kind of few and far between, but the storms that developed are rather hefty, severe earlier, just heavy now. we'll lapse this live doppler. wee see a heavy storm pushing -- we see a heavy storm pushing into howard county and another between winchester and front royal and some storms south of

the students at rocky run middle school got quite a history lesson today learning about world war ii from some of those who actually live touchdown 70 grade students met with 100 vet -- 7th grade students met with 100 veterans to hear eyewitness accounts. the interviews will be added to the library of congress. a 15-year-old minnesota student named jake bowthesor says he wears a rosary as a

back on 9 news now it's an update on the campaign for president in the critical swing state that also happens to be right next-door. a new poll shows the race between president obama and republican candidate mitt romney is tightening up in virginia. this poll from quinnipiac university shows the president with a five-point lead with virginia voter over romney, down from an eight-point lead from that poll in march. today the first lady out trying to reverse the trend. michelle obama hit the campaign trail stumping for her husband

and surae chinn was in dale city where the first lady was out trying to energize the volunteers. >> reporter: the first lady kicks off her solo campaign tour this week with a stop in virginia for her husband's reelection bid trying to energize supporters and volunteers at the veterans of foreign wars post in dale city. >> we have to keep moving forward. >> reporter: virginia is not only a battle ground state, but prince william county is a swing county in virginia. >> i think it's going to be very difficult because most of northern virginia is a melting pot and that's what we have going on here. we're going to have to work hard to bring it all together. >> reporter: volunteers know they have an uphill battle in one of the toughest counties in the country. mr. obama won virginia in 2008, the first in more than three decades, but with the economic struggles and high unemployment rate virginia could turn back to a red state and so could prince william county. >> i remember in 2008 watching

the electoral votes come in and when prince william turned blue, it was a moment filled with cheers. this time it's going to be much harder to make that change happen. >> reporter: according to the latest rasmussen poll this week, the candidates are in a dead heat. mr. obama had 47%, the same with mitt romney. the undecided are 3% with a 4.5% margin of error. >> so, virginia, let me ask you one last question. are you in? y! -- yes! >> as you can see, pops are all over the place down -- polls are all over the place down there. president obama has launched a new ad blaming congress for not acting on his ideas for creating more jobs. public health advocates convening the first ever national soda summit here in d.c. speakers were talking about sugary drinks and their contributions to the growing problems with obesity, diabetes

and a whole lot of other problems in this nation. >> a lot of things contributed to obesity, but clearly the rise in calorie consumption is undeniable. >> oh, yeah. speakers also talked about new york city's controversial plan to ban certain large sizes of sugary drinks and under that idea the city would ban the sale of non-diet soda and other sugary drinks if they're larger than 16-ounces in some restaurants and other public venues. the state highway administration is planting almost 120,000 trees to help clean up the chesapeake bay to be placed on 480 acres along interchanges and grassy areas in nine counties. the goal, reduce stormwater runoff which can care pollution down and into the bay and not to -- carry pollution down and into the bay and not to mention the fact there will be more shade. >> 83 of the high today, about

average, but there -- was the high today, about average, but there are a couple storms. we'll start with live look outside, our live weather cam brought to you by michael and son. down to 79. the dew point is in the upper 40s, not really kind of the scenario you think of when you think of big storms, but a couple storms are hefty off to the west of us, winds out of the north at 12 and pressure steady, 29.96 inches of mercury. here's a look at live doppler. we see a little light activity pushing into montgomery county on the east side of 270, but heaviest activity is west of town and we'll zoom in on a couple storms. this may have hail in it. this is paris as you go out 50 past upperville in virginia. that could be some hail just to the southwest of paris moving off to the southeast now headed toward crossing 17 in the next 20 minutes. it has rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. the other storm is kind of heavy down towards nokesville

and in fauquier county toward midland. this may have some hail on it, too. there are no warnings yet, but there could be some small hail in there. you may see pea sized hail in this storm southeast of midland moving off to the southeast as well. we'll wind the barrack out and tell you where these bill -- widen the radar back out and tell you where these will go. we'll see these storms move off south and east. that holds together pretty well and even that storm holds together going across i-95 just north of fredericksburg. we won't be done with storms for a while. we'll keep them in the forecast till about 10:00. the big picture. we still see showers and storms in pennsylvania. notice there's less lightning, one sign they are weakening a bit moving south and east. temperaturewise delightful, 75 bethesda, 71 reston, 75 great falls, upper 70s in college park, 77 in beltsville. tonight early thunderstorms, some of us a wet commute home

disgraced and out of office and you guys are sick about it. dan in rockville writes hard to support the idea of statehood for d.c. when they can't seem to get an honest local government in place, must be something in the water. who will be the next to make news? you know what, dan, who knows what's coming next? while i will eventually once again argue that voting rights and representations are not rewards for good government, i will not do it today. meantime pamela wonders when is it going to end? the residents of the district deserve better. i think it's a shame to have this sort of foolishness to happen again. pretty soon the residents of d.c. won't have a city council. it's terrible and i feel so sorry for the residents of d.c. john from lorton is simply incredulous. he can't believe it. i hoped after marion barry's disastrous reign the d.c. politicians would take heed and now a younger generation has decided that moral values are inconvenient. we now have three council members and the mayor under investigation for misdeeds. it's disgusting. whatever happened to even trying to tell the truth?
