council chairman fought back tears as he accepted sole responsibility for his bank fraud conviction. >> i have worked every day on behalf of the people and have done it wholeheartedly, but six years ago i made some very serious mistakes in judgment and i have taken full and sole responsibility for those mistakes. >> inside the courthouse brown admitted to a federal judge that he doctored two loan applications to the industrial bank of washington. in one for $184,000 he falsely claimed that he had outside consult work that paid $3,000 per month with a $10,000 raise on the way. he then falsely listed a college friend as president of the bogus company. in a second application for a loan to buy a boat brown falsely claimed that he earned $85,000 from a company when, in fact, he earned 35,000. on the 1099 form brown simply changed the 3 to an 8. did the

prosecution seek his resignation as part of this deal or did your client offer his resignation? >> i think it's hard to say. it was both. >> by afternoon kwame brown was inside d.c. superior court as part of the same plea agreement admitting toed aing and abetting in a 2008 -- to aiding and abetting in a 2008 campaign scream. prosecutors are saying inside superior court -- scheme. prosecutors are saying inside superior court today that kwame brown allowed his brother to secretly set up two bank accounts at the industrial bank of washington. prosecutors say his brother signed five checks ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. he cashed them at the bank and disbursed money to campaign workers. it's illegal. kwame brown said while he violated the campaign law he never stole campaign or government dollars. >> i am guilty of knowing that poll workers and others received more than $50 in cash

payment for doing campaign work. that is and has been done in this city for years. i believe i'm the only one, only candidate, that's ever been charged with a misdemeanor. >> bruce johnson, 9 news now. >> in a late afternoon news conference the u.s. attorney called this a dark day for d.c. and he says the city's residents deserve better from our elected officials. >> do you think those voters would have elected mr. brown if they had known he had submitted fraudulent bank documents in 2005 and 2007 before the election? this is a man that controlled millions of dollars in the city budget. i think the way to answer that is how would you feel if we left him in office and then a greater fraud was perpetrated upon the public down the road? >> the sense of entitlement by these individuals has to stop. they are the entitled to that which does not belong to them. they are not entitled to break the law without repercussion. >> and the fbi says it is not done looking into cases of corruption here in the nation's

capital. culpeper police officer daniel harmon-wright pleaded not guilty today to murder and three other related counts. he's can also granted a $1,000 bond and newly -- he's also granted a $1,000 bond and newly released court records show harmon-wright used unnecessary force on another family shortly before he shot and killed an unarmed woman. tonight only on 9 a young man talks about being threatened at gunpoint in his own home by is of harmon-wright. >> reporter: murder suspect and -- by officer harmon- wright. >> reporter: murder suspect and former culpeper police officer daniel harmon-wright turned his face to avoid cameras as he left the courthouse under heavy security. he's charged with murder in the debt of patricia cook who was unarmed sitting in her jeep in a catholic school parking lot february 29th. the first two shots at point blank range hit her but were not fatal says special prosecutor jim fisher. the other five shots were the ones that killed her as she

drove away. >> the officer advanced his position into the roadway behind the vehicle firing back to front into the rear of the vehicle an additional five times and among those were the two fatal wounds. >> reporter: defense attorney daniel hahn said his client saw cook as a threat. >> evidence of such recklessness in driving down the street towards the place where there's the greatest concentration of pedestrians in culpeper with her vision totally blocked, she's already been shot twice, by the way. >> reporter: that's what she's trying to get way from, right? >> could we not assume she feared for her life and that's why she's driving that way. >> she's not on trial. >> reporter: in arguing against bond prosecutor fisher told the court about the officer's reprimand last january when he forced his way into a home here on garr avenue with his gun drawn. >> when i woke up, i hearded banging, oped the door, as soon as i step -- opened the door, as soon as i step out the cop has his gun in front of my face and tells me to get on the

ground. >> reporter: the judge granted harmon-wright bond. a family member tried to keep journalists away from harmon- wright's mother bethany sullivan who is charged herself with forgery and lying about her son's record. she worked for the then police chief when her son was hired as a police officer five years ago. special prosecutor jim fisher says a sergeant and lieutenant who interviewed him recommended against hiring him because of his history of alcohol abuse. >> two officials after a full background recommended mr. harmon-wright not be hired. >> reporter: officials say six months after being hired he was reprimanded by the chief for not being truthful. while harmon-wright's family is relieved he was granted bond others are not. >> he needs to go to jail and sit there. he's very much still a threat. >> reporter: peggy fox, 9 news now. caught on tape, prince george's county police asking for help to identify three suspects wanted in connection with a carjacking and two attempted carjackings in clinton, maryland.

all three crimes were committed on or around june 3rd. anybody with information please call the prince george's county police. we are following a developing story out of southern california where police say they are investigating a crash involving lindsay lohan. lohan's spokesman says the actress was briefly hospitalized after her porsche collided with an 18 wheeler on pacific coast highway in santa monica. her injuries are described as not serious. a photo posted by tmz.com shows lohan's car window shattered, the bumper smashed in and you can't see it closely, but the air bag is deployed inside. nobody else was injured. a shot at horse racing history will apparently have to wait at least another year. i'll have another has withdrawn from tomorrow's belmont stakes. the horse will not race and ended a shot at the triple crown. the 3-year-old colt has a swollen tendon they tell us. the trainer says they found the injury after the morning jog. >> it's extremely disappointing and i feel so sorry for the

a judge today denied a defense motion to dismiss the sex abuse charges against former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky. sandusky is accused of sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years. the jury of seven women and five men has been selected to hear the trial. opening statements are scheduled to begin monday in bellefont, pennsylvania. a setback today for the defense in the wikileaks case. a judge at fort meade refused to dismiss eight of the counts against army private bradley manning. there's also word the trial of the intelligence analyst will probably be postponed to november or even january. now manning is charged with aiding the enemy.

he's accused of leaking thousands of classified documents to the wikileaks website. and the judge in the east coast rapist case turned down a defense request for a second mental evaluation. attorneys for aaron thomas believe their client is incompetent to stand trial. they argue thomas has stopped speaking to them and was injuring himself. thomas is accused of raping two teen-age girls on halloween night 2009 in woodbridge and dna has also linked him to 14 other attacks in other states. the teen-age suspect in the chardon high school shooting pleaded not guilty today. 17-year-old t.j. lane made his first court appearance since being indicted earlier this week for the murders of three fellow students. he faces three additional charges in connection with the wounding of three others. lane will be tried as daunt for the february shootings and could face -- an adult for the february shootings and could face life in prison if he's convicted. >> topper is coming up with the

president obama says just because there's an election this year that's not an excuse for congress to avoid passing measures that will help create jobs. that was just part of his address today on the state of the u.s. and world economy. the president spoke at a brief

conference at a press conference at the white house this morning, talked about the debt crisis in europe and pressed congress to help the world economy by passing part of his jobs bill which he sent to lawmakers last year, but the president's republican rival sees the economy as the president's no. 1 weakness. >> they left most of the jobs plan just sitting there and in light of the headwinds that we're facing now i urge them to reconsider. >> my to do list is written on my heart and the first three entries are these, jobs, jobs and jobs. i'm going to go to work to get america working again. >> another source of cop tension, the bush ear -- contention, the bush era tax cuts. republican leaders say the house will vote to extend them, but president obama wants to see them expire for people making over $250,000 a year. a delta airlines flight returned to the gated reagan national this afternoon after a veteran law enforcement officer on board told the flight crew four passengers were acting suspiciously. the flight was waiting on the narc when a few pangs were

asking to use -- tarmac when a few passengers were asking to use the restroom, but there was a bit of a language barrier and they returned to the gate. those four passengers were rebooked on another flight. the rest of the passengers were allowed back on board and they took off with nearly a four- hour delay. an unusual appeal tonight from maryland state police trying to help an absent-minded 7-eleven manager rove thousands of dollars he lost on an anne arundel -- recover thousands of dollars he lost on an anne arundel county highway. he left the bank deposit bag on the roof of his suv, apparently didn't realize it and drive off. that's where scott broom picks up the story in glen burnie. >> reporter: you run out to the car, distracted, got your hands full with keys, briefcase, maybe a purse and all of a sudden you realize where's my phone? oh, my god, it was on the roof of the car. >> i got distracted. >> reporter: that's what happened to this 7-eleven manager who does not want to be identified except it wasn't his

phone. it was his store's deposit bag left on the roof of his suv. a deposit bag that was actually seen on northbound interstate 97 near route 100 glen burnie at about 6 a.m. thursday after falling off the car. >> troopers did interview a witness late yesterday who saw the bag and said money was falling out of it. >> reporter: now step in the maryland state police who are putting out an appeal. >> we're asking people to do the right thing. it's someone else's money and we're asking people who may have collected all or some of it to return it and contact maryland state police at the glen burnie barrack. >> i'm 100 percent responsible for that money. >> reporter: the manager said he got to that spot on the interstate wednesday just as about a half dozen pulled over cars were scattering. he recovered a check and a $1 bill. >> the only hope i have is somebody return it. >> that's his livelihood. you got to bring it back. >> reporter: do you think they will? >> i hope they will. >> reporter: but here's the

kidney transplant, he is still standing. marion barry is an icon of d.c. culture and wherever i go in this country people know who he is. well, while i must certainly agree marian barry is the likeable fellow the fact he is notorious nationwide probably not so great for washington. on the other hand, you cannot go wrong reminding people of the guy's basic humanity. still having him in elected office, that would be something else again. and then there was this reaction to last night's weird news which involved urinals in brazil that allow guys to create their guitar solos while relieving themselves. nancy just really hated that story. when i turned on the television last night, the channel 9news at 7 p.m. was just ending. i don't watch this news usually. i saw the story on urinals very briefly and quickly changed the channel. a reminder to never watch this news station again. thank you for reminding me. well, since you're not watching us now you will never hear me point out that the story was actually just supposed to be kind of odd and funny and it
