warm and humid. we'll get a nice break by wednesday. tomorrow will be the day you'll need to plan around because weather will interfere with your outdoor plans and probably commuting plans for sure. here's a look at our day plan other this monday morning. sunshine showing up off the capitol dome reflecting there on the left side from our vantage point. 72 degrees with mostly sunny skies. by 9:00 79. a quick warm-up to 87 by noon. so when my wife asks me if she can wear sleeves, definitely today with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 with increasing clouds during the afternoon. the high clouds just coming across the region giving us the pretty sunrise. the heavier showers out west, a stray sprinkle getting in toward southwestern virginia. we may actually see an isolated shower west of town today but really tonight and especially tuesday that's when rain chances go up. looking at temperatures right now low to mid-60s in many areas, although pax river 71 at the naval air station.

annapolis 73 and 72 here in d.c. let's check in with monika now. she'll let us know about your time saver traffic this monday morning. >> that's what we're trying to do, save you some time. there's been this accident on the northbound side of i-95 sitting there for a while near triangle in the left lane. that was just cleared up but it left this delay for you, 22 miles an hour. the pace improves the closer you get to the accident but it's definitely done a number on the northbound side of i-95 where i'd say you're going 5 to 10 miles an hour before you get to triangle and our sky 9 is headed out there. they should have that shortly for you. a little further north we'll take a live look if you're planning to head beyond that, you're going to be okay here in springfield as you can see. both the main and hov lanes have been open heading to the beltway. let's go back over to the maps and this time to the other side of town. no problems on the bw parkway or route 50 through cheverly heading to the northeast corridor into the downtown area. we'll take a live look at the southbound side of i-95 looking good out of laurel at route 198 down to the beltway.

coming up in my next report, i'll update ow that accident at 6:12 -- update you on that accident at 6:12. looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better ow street. >> today start as major facelift project that will put the corridor into a construction zone for the next year. 9news now delia goncalves is live along u street with what is expected to happen. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, andrea, mike. it will be a long and loud year but a lot of good changes to come here on u street. many of the buildings like the ellington that you see behind me has gone through its own facelift and now it's time for the roads and the sidewalks. roads will be repaved. sidewalks widened and landscape added. ddot's construction project begins today and will last one year. crews will work one block at a time from 9th to 14th streets. old-timers say we've been

through our worse and have survived the worst. sorry about that we had some sound about the 1968 riots. you should remember or you could remember the fact that in 1968 after the riots here, u street was just kind of destroyed. and burned down to ashes and some things remain like ben's chili bowl. so managers over at ben's chili bowl say we have survived and per veered through the riots. well -- persevered through the riots. well, a little construction not so bad after all. we can get through that as well. the construction begins a little later this morning and will last one full year. back to you. >> eight calm now but things will change. right now an investigation is under way into two traffic accidents allegedly caused by u.s. commerce secretary john bryson. >> the accidents happened in

los angeles saturday near the area of los angeles. according to police, bryson was found alone and unconscious in his car. susan mcginnis is live in new york. good morning. thanks for joining us. how is bryson doing this morning as far as we know? >> reporter: good morning, mike and andrea. as far as we know, he's still in the hospital this morning. he's being treated for some injuries. he was treated at the scene when he was found unconscious in his car. he caused to separate collisions. he was treated. as far as we know he's still in the hospital as of earlier this morning. >> what are police saying about what happened and do they believe alcohol played a role? >> reporter: so far there's no evidence that alcohol or drugs played a role. all we know so far is that secretary bryson was driving in his car in his lexus on saturday evening. he was driving alone on a major street. he rear ends another vehicle that had three men inside it. he got out and spoke to these

three men. he got back in his car to take off. he hit them again as he was leaving them. two of them were treated for injuries. he then goes further down and hits another vehicle that held a man and a woman. they complained of pain but declined medical treatment. later he was found in his car unconscious. >> are they talking about charges? is anything being tipped as to where the investigation goes from here? >> reporter: as of now it's being investigated as a felony hit and run. the investigation is still unfolding. that's sort of the label under which it's being investigated, a felony hit and run. we're not sure where it goes if here but the investigation is still under way right now. >> we have to wrap up but in this political atmosphere, is there any campaign implications for the white house or anything because of this? i know it's early in the investigation. >> reporter: i would say probably -- we still have to find out exactly what happened and what caused this. was there alcohol or drugs

involved. nothing so far. a major spokesmanned for at managers here -- spokesman for the administration here so we'll have to see what kind of impact it will have. jerry sandusky will face his accusers for the first time in court. >> opening statements are expected to begin today in sandusky's sex abuse trial. you may remember of course the former penn state assistant football coach is facing 52 counts of sexual abuse allegations involving ten boys over a 15-year time span. if he is convicted, sandusky could spend the rest of his life behind bars. this morning fairfax county police are still serching for a -- searching for a suspect in a mysterious homicide. saturday night police responded to a call about a fight in reston but found nothing. an hour later officers received a missing persons report that led them back to that location. 40-year-old pharat patel's body was found inside his apartment with trauma to his upper body. patel had just opened a dunkin' donuts a few blocks away n. a

statement dunkin' donuts said, quote, all of us are extremely saddened to learn of the tragic death of bharat patel. we send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of patel. police say a man deliberately rammed a jeep into a d.c. building will head to court. charles bell of new market, maryland is charged with assault and intent to kill. they say he tried to douse the vehicle he was in with gasoline and then tried to set it on fire with a lighter. the jeep's owner a woman he was living with filed a restraining order against bell the same day of the incident. in august the university of virginia's first female president will step down after only two years. uva's board of visitors says dr. teresa sullivan's departure was a mutual decision. president sullivan said in a statement although the board and i have a philosophical difference of opinion, i will always treasure having had the opportunity to work with so many gifted faculty and staff,

talented students and loyal alumni. her resignation is effective august 15. 6:08. jessica doyle is here with another your money report. >> well, we've had a good month so far. and a really good week last week. >> a really good week last week. we'll see how we takes things from there. as of this morning we're coming off of the best week of the year for wall street and potentially headed into another positive session. global markets up about 2% today and here's where we stand this morning. the dow is at 12,554. it was up more than 93 points in trading on friday. the nasdaq was up by 27 and the s&p 500 was up nearly 11 points. check this out for the week. the dow up 3.6%. nasdaq up by 3.9%. and the s&p 500 gained 3.5% for all of last week. our owe's -- europe's finance ministers are offering credit to the spanish government so it can funnel the money to banks.

the plan eases the immediate crisis in europe's fourth largest economy. hours after that bailout was announced came the backlash. protesters in madrid demanded to know why billions in aid would go to prop up the broken spanish banks instead of helping the people who have been suffering because of their mistakes. the banking system with us crushed under -- system was crushed under the bad weight of bank loans. today apple's c.e.o. tim cook is expected to show off new software for the iphone, ipad and ipad touch. what we don't know is what will the new features be and when will it be released. usually the new software becomes available at the time a new iphone comes out. today the company'sage share shareholders conference or rather conference for software developers kicks off in san francisco.

improve but there are some -- there is some slow traffic trying to get past this point. coming up in my next report, we'll take another look at area roads at 6:18. back to you. making news right now, a warning from israel's deputy military chief. he says syria has the biggest chemical weapons stocks in the world and missiles that can reach any point in israel. he says if syria had the chance, it would treat them the same way it treats its own people. meanwhile a group of u.n. observers spent yesterday in a damascus suburb where violence is believed to be ongoing. amateur video shows the homes bombardment, one city where dozens were killed. at least 33 people killed there over the weekend. the search continues for a killer. police say a man named desmonte leonard is the one responsible for killing two former auburn university football players and a third who is a current player. witnesses say leonard opened fire after a fight over a woman at a pool party near the

university's campus. >> at least one person is missing and hundreds of people have been evacuated in colorado. the wildfire started saturday in larimer county, colorado and has already scorched 14,000 acres and is still growing. 6:15. looks like you are going to expect yet another day in the 90s. we are already at 72 degrees. howard is here to give us the details and the digits. good morning, sir. >> going to feel like the 90s with the humidity but the air temps will be upper 80s, close to 90. 89. but the heat index, the dew point is a measure of how much moisture is in the air and there's plenty and looks like we'll get showers and storms later tonight and tomorrow. only a slim chance we'll see one today. our bus stop forecast -- i'm already in summer vacation mode. some kids are already out for break. i'm hearing -- i heard school is out for summer by alice

cooper. kids are singing that song. except prince william, fairfax county and a few others that get out this week. we have 60s and 70s this morning. today we're looking at sunshine this morning through midday. it is going to warm quickly into the upper 80s. so your lunch plans, outdoor lunch may be toasty. an increase in clouds this afternoon, upper 80s to near 90. south, southeast winds. a little bit of a breeze may help cool things off 10 to 15 miles an hour. we have temperatures in the low to mid-60s across loudoun county. down to 60 in lover vetsville. -- lovettsville. we have 63 in manassas. you have school till friday out there. fairfax county also 65. school till friday. tomorrow the last day in montgomery county with 66 and rockville. 64 crofton. as we look outside on our michael & son weather camera, a pretty morning. sunshine. a few high clouds. 72 degrees with humidity at

81%. those are those muggies i'm talking about. looking at our weather headlines, more humid today with an isolated storm west of town. showers and storms much more likely and widespread on tuesday. then drier air on wednesday. we're watching a system in the middle of the country. this guy up here, this is a front that comes through late tomorrow night. out ahead of it it's going to draw up moisture from the gulf of mexico. we're seeing all of this down here today. that's going to increase the clouds and thunderstorm chances late tonight and tuesday. 89 today. tomorrow a yellow alert day. this is going to be a pain tomorrow at times. it could delay your commute early. could delay your commute in the afternoon and also maybe just generally interfere with your outdoor plans. wednesday turning nice again, 84. by thursday get some winds off the atlantic bringing if a few clouds. maybe some drizzle or a sprinkle, upper 70s. the weekend looks good. high temps in the low 80s. 6:17. let's find out about that

commute if that's looking good or not. monika samtani is making some faces. that's not a good sign for all of us. >> you're right, it's not a good sign, especially for the ones traveling northbound on i- 95 in virginia where there was a long-standing accident. i'm happy to say it was cleared. i would say about 20 minutes ago on the northbound side near triangle but look at the heavy traffic that it left trying to get through. the closer you get to the accident of course the better it is but down leaving aquia harbor heavy and slow heading northbound on 95. a little further north on to 395 and here things are looking good. really just the brake lights near duke street and this is what it looks like across the 14th street bridge. just normal across the potomac river into the downtown area. let's go back over to the maps, this time to the other side of town. no problems to report as you head over to 95 between the baltimore beltway and no problems at shady grove road. in my next report another look at area roads at 6:25.

6:22. your weather first on this muggy monday morning. no weather problems to start although later on we've got to worry about the heat and we're going to have to worry about maybe an isolated storm out west for parts of virginia. looking at your day plan other this monday, we start sunny and mild and muggy. look how quickly we're going to warm. by 11:00 85 degrees. we're going into the upper 80s to around 90 with increasing

clouds this afternoon and a better chance of storms tonight and tuesday. full details coming up a little later. right now, though, mike's got a tough assignment. >> you've got to take one for the team every once in a while. that's what i'm here to do this morning. so you think you have what it takes or you know someone who has would it takes to have the right moves to become a wizards girl? you could do it. tryouts are coming up. the dancing manager derek is here with some of the current team members. this is brittany and this is tara. what does it take? what do they have to do to pull this off? >> three things you're looking for to become a wizard girl. the first one is going to be preparation. make sure you're prepared and come with the proper audition attire. i brought a sample of attire. brittany will hold that up us for. >> do you have to pick that up ahead of time or something similar to that size. >> something similar. we want to see something two piece. you're going to need to be 18 years or older. you need to be a part-time

student or a part-time employee. we also need you to come to registration at 8:30 in the morning on saturday, june 16 at verizon center. it's going to be at the f street entrance. we're looking for beautiful, talented young ladies to come out and try to become the next member of the hottest dancing team in the fab. >> you say you need to have part-time employment or student bha. kind of -- student. what kind of time commitment? do you travel with the team? >> we don't travel with the team. we do do appearances. tara will be representing the washington wiz disarlds internationally -- wizards internationally. she'll be going on a military tour. go have those opportunities. we do practice about two to three times a week. sometimes we could have three to four games a week. sometimes it will take your full week. what we ask for is mostly your evenings are available. >> so now some dance teams, there are -- they are throwing people. is this more on the ground? >> this is definitely more on the ground. however, we do like girls that

the jefferson memorial. looks like we're headed close at least to the 90-degree mark. thank you for starting your monday with us. good morning. i'm andrea roane. i'm mike hydeck. let's check on the conditions outside. howard bernstein live on the weather terrace. >> good morning. notice the haze on that shot of the jefferson memorial? we have the muggies back. it will be a little sticky and uncomfortable this afternoon as we head toward 90. here's your day planner on this monday morning. nice start to the day. again a little humid but not too bad. winds will be south, southeast, going to pick up along with the clouds this afternoon. 10, 15 miles an hour with your noon temps in the mid- to upper 80s and highs upper 80s to near 90. we're talking about a lot of moisture out there. looks pretty good outside on our weather camera and as we show you the satellite and radar quickly, just want to show you the high clouds coming across. highs later on near 90. let's go to monika samtani. she's got your time saver traffic. good morning, everybody. things are actually looking a little bit better outside.

we started off with this accident on the northbound side of i-95 quite some time ago and it's cleared here in triangle but if you just look under the sign here, still a bit of slow traffic left over getting by. aim going to step out and show what you it looks like on sky 9 on the northbound side of i-95. this is at route 610. a little bit of leftover slow stuff for your early monday morning. sorry about that but at least i can tell you the lanes are now open. this time we're going to head all the way to the north side of town. southbound i-270, 28 miles an hour heading for route 80 in urbana. then the pace improves till you hit germantown. i just got word of an accident near route 118 and that's in the roadway as well so that's going to slow you down there on the southbound side of i-270. overall your delays out of frederick toward urbana and again in germantown as you head for the point where the lanes divide. those lanes are open. no problems to report on route 355 as you head through rockville, great seneca highway is doing well as well.

both directions of 95 looking just final. we'll take a live look outside right now and show what you it looks like on 270 here at route 118 as i was telling you, there was an accident just sought of this camera shot in the roadway. we're just beginning to get information on that. the american legion bridge looks fine. we'll wind a live look from chart as you travel on the south side of town. here's what it looks like on the beltway in oxon hill. coming up in my next report, we'll go over to virginia at 6:45. back to you. a majorover haul of a popular u street corridor begins later this morning. this is your early warning. >> upgrades to the landscape and a lot more are going to take place over the next year. it is going to abconstruction zone for present -- to be a construction zone for 12 months. deal zeal is live -- delia goncalves is live with a look

at some change u street is beginning to get busy. folks will start feeling the pain from this construction and some of the traffic tieups that will result. roads will be repaired. sidewalks will be widened and landscape added. street lights and storm drains we're told will also get upgrades but many say the u street corridor simply doesn't need any fixing. >> as much as i love increasing pedestrian access, i don't think adding sidewalks is that much value. >> i don't drive in the city. so i can't really offer -- [indiscernible] but as a pedestrian, i've never thought of the area as inaccessible. >> reporter: crews will work one block at a time all the way

from 14th down to 9th street. you see these four lanes of traffic. sometimes there's parking. sometimes there are two lanes of traffic. guess what? that will eventually be just one lane of traffic. and then of course curbside parking will be restricted so traffic likely to be a nightmare for the next year or so but lots of folks say the loyal people who come to u street every day and head out to the businesses and head to the restaurants in the evening, they're not too worried that those folks won't stay away despite the tieups that they may run into. much more to come as u street gets torn up block by block and as we get to see this improvement. back to you. >> i will walk to ben's chili bowl, thank you. >> reporter: that's your best bet. >> thanks, delia. at 6:34 time for a special your money report. >> we are raising a glass to a

hot local business trend. that's right. you have a great meal, you tend to have a great wine to pair it with, right? but that's changing in the district as locally produced craft beer is getting a seat at the table. people who know a thing or to about brew tend to appreciate it in much the same way as a fine wine. >> check the color, the head on it, the aroma. you can kind of swish it around. it helps the carbon dioxides that's releasing all these nice aromatics. we'll see how it tastes. >> oh, wow. >> wow is the reaction a lot of washingtonians are having to the craft beer jess hancock is brewing. >> we're the first production brewery in about 60 years, brewed locally. we currently cannot keep up with the supply and demand for the city. >> business has been going gang

busters. they opened in april of last year and this year they're looking to triple sales. and that's a lot of beer. hancock and partner brandon are on pace to sell 5,000 barrels in 2012 as d.c.'s thirst for locally sourced craft beer is growing. >> d.c. kind of in the last couple of years has been going through kind of -- i would call it like a cultural renaissance. you have a lot of high end restaurants, people looking for higher quality product. it's a pretty large town as far as alcohol consumption goes and it hasn't had its own brewing brand identity. >> that's quickly changing with the recent launch of several local craft brewers, including port city brewing in alexandria and d.c.-based chocolate city beer and three stars. not to mention brew pubs opening their doors. >> you're going to start to see more brews in the washington, d.c. area. you have 11 breweries total. several of those are in planning. so that is a beautiful thing.

>> local craft beer enthusiasts gathered this weekend for savor, a traveling festival that celebrates the pairing of great foam with great food. >> 4,000 people total that worked their way through this food and beer pairing experience. >> the capacity crowd at the national building museum sampled beers from over 70 breweries and d.c. brau was there, too, representing the craft flourishing in the district. >> i'd like to think that we are-- >> the d.c. brewing scene is on trend with the rest of the nation as overall beer sales fell last year, craft brewers saw their sales climbing 15%. and it's a pretty terrific product. i was at savor over the weekend. it was a blast. >> try that d.c. chocolate city beer. excellent. >> it's a big thing. >> thank you very much. well, this morning we have

welcome back. monika here with time saver traffic. it's 6:41 and 72 degrees. we've issues not only on the south side of town but the north side of town as well. i'll start off with that on the southbound side of 270. this accident is now sitting on the shoulder but let me show you a live look right now on the southbound tied of i-270. look at that. very heavy and slow past route 118 as you head down to the point where the lanes divide. eight going to be off and on again with the accident on the shoulder capturing everybody's attention. this time on the other side of town, much different story here on the inner loop of the beltway. no problems leaving 210 to the wilson bridge. it used to be a much different

story several years ago if you remember. but now with the wilson bridge all fixed up, things are great heading for the river and beyond into alexandria. now let's go back over to our maps this time a bit of a different story on the northbound side of i-95 in virginia where there was an accident near triangle. that was cleared up very slow and heavy still getting by with those residual delays. luckily if you're heading in from the south side of town, no problems here on route 5, route 4, route 301 or 210 heading for the wilson bridge and that's looking good across the river. we'll go to a live picture here in springfield. the brake lights begin closer to route 644 as you head for this point. then 395 pretty much normal as you leave edsall road through landmark to seminary road and the pentagon to the 14th street bridge for your delays along 95 and 395 lanes are open. coming up in my next report we'll focus on 66 at 6:58. it is 6:43. you can see the temperature right there on the screen.

72 degrees. there's the washington uponment. the one thing -- monument. the one thing we don't have is too much haze but it is going to be a typical summer day in washington. >> we reached over 90 degrees yesterday. howard said we'll probably get to 89 today. the humidity will start to increase a little bit. he's here to detail the whole thing for us. >> the muggies are back. temps in the 60s and 70s. we have a front coming. out ahead of it we'll see the muggies come back and heat means storms. that's likely not growing to happen till later tonight and especially for your tuesday. the last week we're doing this, the bus stop forecast. we've got temperatures in the 60s and 70s out there this morning. sunny and mild i'm calling it with a sunrise a little over an hour ago. it will set about 8:34. today we're going to see sunshine giving way to more clouds as we go throughout the afternoon. not sure why the mostly cloudy symbol is on at 8:00 other than the high clouds that will be rrn from time to time. 4:00 p.m.

temperature 88 degrees. we'll have a high near the 90- degree mark with 82 still at 8:00 p.m. and weses of washington -- west of washington, southwest of town you may see an isolated shower or thunderstorm this afternoon. i think it will be culpeper and southwest of there, with 61 in cumberland. fred rigsburg is 67 degrees. 70 in easton. pax river 71 with 66 in gaithersburg. looking outside on our michael & son weather camera, nice this morning. mostly sunny skies. just a few high thin ones out there and a temperature of 72. your humidity is way up, 81%. a wind south, southwest at 5 miles an hour. the front is coming. you can see chicago, detroit in the low 70s. minneapolis in the low 60s and bismarck in the 50s. pretty definite line of showers and storms this morning which we've been watching since yesterday coming through minnesota, wisconsin, back down around areas of kansas city with hefty showers and storms.

that storm is coming tomorrow night, early tomorrow morning. plenty of moisture in the deep south. that's feeding up toward the mid-atlantic so the two of those together will give us a pretty good chance of showers and storms starting late tonight and tomorrow looks to be a rather unsented day. here's our future cast. through midday we're okay. want you to watch between charlottesville and let's say luray and new market here in virginia. some isolated showers can't be ruled out here late this afternoon but for the most part we're going to stay dry today, increasing clouds. overnight here comes some showers and storms. looks like some of them could be around for the morning commute tomorrow with scattered showers and storms almost anywhere tomorrow during the day and in the afternoon and then tomorrow night here comes the front. that will clear us out. so here's your forecast. today we've got 89 degrees, increasing clouds. showers and storms tonight and especially on tuesday. so a yellow alert tomorrow. it's going to slow you down and interfere with your plans, 80.
