it is just, you know, devastating. it's just before her time. why the individual, or the individuals just couldn't of taken the money and left. detectives broke the news. it's impossible to hold back the heartbreak. >> they planned on moving back to the eastern shore and live out their days. this is just very surreal. >> reporter: they started their day just like every other day for the last 8 years. she pulled up, opening the front door to the deli. >> it means she was unloading the supplies, you know, apparently somebody must have followed her in. >> reporter: police say they hardly have any information about who it was. they were long gone before they first showed up to work finding her body behind the counter. >> there is not a lot i could say about what was inside at this time. and we are still processing the scene.

you know, at this time, no signs of the forced entry. >> reporter: but there are plenty of signs outside the store just as to how much she meant to the customers. >> it's like we know the family member when they needed to call and to place the order. just a great loss for us. >> it is devastating. >> and i mean, i just need to know more about that. >> they know all the regular customers by name. she knew about them, you know, what the drinks were, the regular, you know, foods were. and so she really made an effort. that was her way of showing she cared. >> reporter: they will show you how much she cares about june. the entire front of the deli is now plastered with these fliers, we will miss you. they also posted fliers about the vigil that will be taken place tomorrow between 12 to 2. they would like a chance to remember june and all that she did for this community. but they are also hoping to raise awareness about what happened. they are hoping someone saw

something and that they could help police find her killer. in northeast washington, i'm kristin fisher, 9news now. >> reporter: they have linked another so-called rapist. they are wanted for several assaults on women. some of them dating back to the mid-1990s. police say that the forensic evidence will lead them to believe that the potomac river rapist is linked to the other 1996 attack that happened in the 4900 block of the boulevard northwest. and police and victims, they need your help to locate the predator. >> i know that people are afraid to talk to cops. i know they are afraid to leave the tips. i guarantee will happen and somebody needs to call that hotline for you or go to the website and say that you should look at the creek. >> reporter: most of the potomac rapist victims, they were from montgomery county, ambushed in their home.

they were raped after coming back here in 1998. >> are two of them are facing charges following the bus here. where police arrested the 43- year-old at the plaza shopping center yesterday. he coaches football here from several years ago, most recently associated with the west springfield program. they say that police, they also arrested the man during the bust. well, lance armstrong is now barred from the iron man's view from france. the move comes after the tour de france winner was accused again of using performance enhancing drugs including steroids. in addition to the violation, the doping agency, they say that armstrong tried to cover up the illegal drug use. he has repeatedly denying the doping educations, saying he has never failed the drug test.

>> we have nothing to hide, we know that. and we have proven time in and time out that, you know, there were claims. >> reporter: and he has a week to respond to the charges and the arbitrator could hear the case this fall. the u.s. authorities spent about two years investigating them, closing their probe without bringing charges. police tonight are trying out those airport body scanners, despite the viral video that suggests they are pretty easily defeated. bruce leshan reports what happened when he put them to the test. >> and so i'm going to need you to also remove the belt. >> reporter: they forced the protection agency that they would like everyone to know that they are trying out the scanners here at the visitor center. >> the yellow squares will indicate, you know, where the threat is coming up and located near the instrument. >> and they had that under my tie and detected the candy bar i have on the right side. >> reporter: but police, they are well aware of the florida

blogger's video that reports show him easily fooling the similar scanners here at two different airports. >> we're not just relying on anything like that. but we're looking at a number of the different approaches. they would like to know how dangerous it really is, putting it all the way in. >> reporter: they only take the images front and back. >> you can see what was drawn here. and on the charges. >> reporter: any threats are black too. and so the 27-year-old says that he sewed a pocket on his side. >> the heavy metal carrying case and he was able to slip right through security. >> i'll exit with the object without any complaints from the tsa. >> we wanted to see if we could replicate the fans. so i took the keys, put it in the sun glass case, zipped it up, put it right on the side of my body and walked through. >> it will be inside the square feet. >> reporter: they had no trouble picking up my contraband. >> there are sun glass cases clipped on the side of the

individual's right pocket. >> reporter: luckily it did not show me naked. >> no security system is 100% perfect. and we would abide it if it existed. >> reporter: but at least our crew attempt failed to defeat the scan system that the pentagon is trying out. and bruce leshan, 9news now. >> the tsa says that they have tested the scanners successfully thousands of times, and they said that it is the best available technology for detecting the explosives. his lawyers filed a motion today requesting the change of venue in the wrongful death lawsuit. the defense team for the former university virginia lacrosse team argues that he could not get a fair trial in charlottesville. and that is where the jurors found him guilty of second- degree murder for the death of his ex-girlfriend. the wrongful death suit was filed right here. metro rail is launching a new program called rush plus. peggy fox has some important details to keep you from being left at the platform.

the orange line carries more passengers than any other metro railline. and because it will get so crowded during the rush hour where riders have dubbed it orange crush. >> sometimes you cannot get on it. >> reporter: and on monday, help will be on the way in the largest system change since they rolled their first trains out. but it might leave some passengers perplexed. >> have you heard anything about the rush plus? >> i have heard a little bit. but you know, i just saw the ads. that's about it. >> reporter: come monday, they give the orange line more trains during rush hour. >> it felt great. >> reporter: but it's not that great for all blue line riders. the blue line is losing the trains during rush hour, which means riders, they will need to wait up to 12 minutes for a train. but rush plus, they are bringing more options also. and at the end of the blue line here at springfield franconia, you will also be able to catch that yellow train. >> but it is not all bad for folks here in springfield or alexandria. for example if you pick up the

train here in franconia, instead of taking the blue line all the way around for the 40- minute ride, you can take a rush hour here for you and the rush plus yellow line train to the area for the only 28-minute ride. >> reporter: and it is also giving you the orange line here the additional final destination during the rush hour at largo's town center. the yellow line will continue on to green belt along the green line. with the yellow trains on the green line and the yellow and blue, you cannot rely on color anymore. >> it just seems confusing. i feel like you need to be paying a bit more attention to that. and some people, you know, they might. >> peggy fox, 9news now. >> they will show you the riders on the red line as well as those that will be traveling outside the normal windows. >> reporter: you know his voice

a man hunt is underway in buffalo where police are looking for a surgeon here suspected in the shooting death of the ex-girlfriend. the 33-year-old was found dead in the stairwell of the hospital where they both worked. and police say that jordan, they might be armed and dangerous. that man hunt is being conducted on the shore of lake erie where he owns the luxury home. the man suspected of the murder of three people in auburn, alabama appeared in court today. the 22-year-old listened to the charges among the very high

security, shooting a total of six people last weekend. and the dad including two former auburn players are the current players. and they were all wounded. a new report from the american cancer society. they find that the number of cancer survivors in the u.s. will grow significantly. we'll take a look at some of the reasons why. >> reporter: he's a cancer survivor, but it has been a long road. she's battled breast cancer about three times. >> i never thought i would get breast cancer again. >> reporter: the 67-year-old is one of 13.7 million americans living with the history of cancer, while the rates are decreasing in the u.s. the new report shows that the number of survivors would jump to almost 18 million in the next decade. >> and the population of the older people that tends to get cancer is grilling in the united states. we have also had the major advances in treatment of many cancers. >> reporter: nearly half are 70 years or older and the majority

are living about five to six years. many people go on to have normal healthy lives. but some will be facing the physical challenges and the long-term side effects from the treatment. >> it is increasingly recognizing that they will be a special population and that they need the attention in the medical community. they need resources in the general community. >> reporter: she is not only the cancer survivor, but she's president of the long island cancer. she runs a center that will provide it to over 26,000 people for five people. >> we now have support groups for cancer. we have many other things to take the stress off. and they know it could come back, but she remains hopeful for the future. cbs news, new york. topper is back with his

it is garaguation season and for the -- graduation season and for the senior class, they have a lot to celebrate. as surae chinn reports, they are not only the first senior class to graduate from the school, but the entire class has been accepted into college. >> i'm kind of nervous. i have a speech, well, i'm addressing the students and families. >> reporter: and the 17-year- old nelson cruz has achieved more than his family could have ever imagined in his young life, spending a part of his childhood in the dominican republic wheredreams don't always reach beyond the streets. >> i tell her that i love her and i appreciate it. >> reporter: so it is no wonder when the class chose him to speak that there would be a flooded emotion. nelson is the first of their family to graduate high school. unlike the majority of the classmate receiving a diploma,

the first to go to college. an accomplishment for this group overcoming many challenges and where the majority were eligibility for the reduced or free meal. 80% of the graduating class of 2010 is wearing one of these medallions. and that means for 31 students that there will be a first in their family to go to college. >> reporter: nelson's mother who only has a grade school education understands what her son's achievement will mean for their families. >> and i already cry because of the heat going to ohio. so you know, that's why. i'm so proud of him. >> and i would like to say that it's been a pleasure to be here.
