first, the individual must have no criminal history. the individual must have graduated from a u.s. high school. have earned a ged, or served in the military. they will also avoid deportation and be eligible for work permits if they came to america before the age of 16 and they are younger than 30. they must also have been in the united states for at least five continuous years. this decision will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants. and we're following breaking news from westminster, maryland. where a small plane has crashed. according to car roll county fire, the single engine plane crashed at the end of the runway just after 10:00 this morning. the airport is closed while authorities investigate this crash. we'll have more details on this story on wusa9.com and of course on 9news now beginning at 5:00 p.m. it is a crime that has

shocked the northeast washington community and today, that community is coming together in an attempt to heal broken hearts. a vigil is taking place to honor the murdered owner of a deli. 64-year-old june lim was killed yesterday in an apparent robbery. her delicatessen is located at 7th and h streets northeast. kristin fisher has more information. >> reporter: well, there's about 50 people here for this vigil which just got underway a few minutes ago. and the amount of emotions that you can feel out here is just overwhelming. i of course did not know june lim but after today and what i learned about her yesterday, i sure wish i did and it's tough not to get caught up in all of it. this vigil was organized by some of her favorite customers. the folks who worked at the department of the d.c. department of human services which is just across the vote. i've got a few of them with me here today.

denise white, one of them. you know, unfortunately these types of tragic crimes are all too common but it's rare to see so much outpouring of support from the community. what does that say about june? >> it says a lot. because she was very loving. she -- didn't see color within us. we walked in. she treated everyone the same. and -- we going to really truly miss her. i mean she got to know us. she been here what seven or eight years? and you walk in and she knows what you want. >> don't even have to place your order. she knows exactly what you want. if you say this is not what i want. she says okay that's what you going to get today. we be laughing but she is like really -- we going to miss her. >> to know her killer or killers are still on the loose. >> uh-huh. >> that's hard. i can't believe they haven't caught him yet. >> uh-huh. >> i hope that they do. you know, like when i'm wearing black it's not a sign of mourning.

somebody followed her in or came inside once she was already inside. we're unclear exactly what happened inside the store but police believe it was a robbery of some kind. a new report from the american cancer society says the number of cancer survivors in the united states will grow significantly in the next decade. dick beck man reports the number of -- brennan reports the number of survivors has more to do with a growing population. >> reporter: jerry is a cancer survivor but it's been a long road. she's battled breast cancer three times. >> i never thought i would get breast cancer again. >> reporter: the 67-year-old is one of 13.7 million americans living with a history of cancer, while cancer rates are decreasing in the u.s., a new american cancer society report shows the number of cancer survivors will jump to almost 18 million in the next decade. >> the population of older people that tends to get cancer is growing in the united states. >> we've also had major advances in treatment of many cancers. >> reporter: nearly half of all survivors are 70 years or older

and the majority are living five or more years since diagnosis. many people go on to have normal healthy lives after cancer. but some will face physical charges and long-term side effects from treatment. >> it's increasingly recognized that cancer survivors are a special population. and that they need attention in the medical community. they need resources in the general community. >> reporter: jerry is not only a cancer survivor, she's president of the long island breast cancer action coalition. she runs a center that's provided education and information to over 26,000 people. >> we not only have support groups for cancer, we have many other things to take stress off. we have you know, yoga, and reki and art. >> reporter: like many others jerry knows cancer can come back. but she remains hopeful for the future. dick brennan, for cbs news, new

beauty outside. a few fair weather clouds and temperatures going into the low 80s here in town. we may hold on the a few spots in the upper 70s for highs but a gorgeous afternoon. northeast winds becoming easterly at 5 to 15 miles an hour. this is awesome sort of stuff. and if we can only keep it. 78 at 7:00 p.m. and even by 9:00 still in the 70s. so if your plans are taking you out to see the nats host the yankees tonight, upper 70s around the first pitch and low 70s by the later innings. what a great day. a couple of clouds well to the south and a few out here in the mountains. the higher elevations around charlottesville and outside of harrisonburg. this morning it got cool in the 50s in gaitburg and baltimore. 's on the 55 degrees -- easton 55 degrees. got down to 64 for us and look at this right now. in the 730s here, beautiful although oakland still at 68 degrees the air is dry. the sun is bright and it's a beautiful afternoon. as we look outside oh we don't have the camera loaded. my bad there but it's a

gorgeous day. 78 degrees. east winds at 7 and the dew point in the 50s. the air has really, really dried out. we've got storms in the middle of the country and along the gulf coast but the key for us right here. big area of high pressure over the ohio and the tennessee valley. that's blocking all of this weather from moving toward us. so for the short-term it's going to be a real tough time. these areas are going to get hit over and over the next few days with storms and around here just going to be nice. also seen the storms come and now form in the northern gulf of mexico. we're watching the sometime seas do -- these do develop into something tropical. but right now nice and quiet and beautiful for us in the eastern u.s.. a couple of showers can't be ruled out in pennsylvania later today and into kentucky and southwestern virginia. but as we go through tonight it will be quiet. a few clouds approach the coastal areas tomorrow morning: we'll get through the day on sat with a few shower -- saturday with a few showers many central and northern pennsylvania if your weekend plans take you up there. by sunday, when we may get a

shower or two up in the mountains out to the west, but we're still looking good. i think our rain chances really don't start to pick up and they don't pick up that great monday, west of town an ace lited stuff in the afternoon -- isolated stuff in the afternoon. so the next three days very pleasant this afternoon. 82. i think this is probably one of the best days of the year weather-wise. tonight dipping back into the 60s in town. still a few 50s north and west. tomorrow, nice at 83. father's day nice at 84. and the humidity levels stay down right through the weekend. we get to next week, and this is where we start cranking temperatures up. monday mid 80s. tuesday i think we're 90, 91. even wednesday and thursday the isolated storms and the heat -- temperatures in the mid 90s summer officially beginning wednesday at 7:09. it smells great. we got a treat for you in our kitchen when 9news now at noon returns.
