in this outer lying suburbs, it is quite comfortable with a little bit of a breeze, in all our weather planner stays good for today. as we get to friday and saturday the temperatures get close to 100 degrees. we have a heat advisory a heat watch in effect starting tomorrow morning. at least it is nice and cool out to the roads now. calm, no problems to report. it has been a pretty easy morning all around town. i hope i'm not junctioning things. look at that, no red. just a tiny bit of yellow right now. in woodbridge, we'll go live to springfield where it is just normal stuff trying to get over to the beltway either to the inner loop or 395 heading up toward the 14th street bridge. no problems to report again with the exception of a tiny bit of

volume here. coming in from the airport, you are fine on the dulles toll road. from centerville over to fairfax and vienna, let's go live outside right now. the supis beginning to rise. that may affect your ride a bit, coming eastbound on i 66. we'll focus on maryland at 6:14. andrea and jessica? >> reporter: we are just four hours away from the supreme court releasing its decision on the affordable care act. the decision hinges on whether or not the federal government can mandate you to buy health insurance or face a penalty. >> the court will decide if that mandate should stand and if not, if the entire package should remain. >> reporter: the court could also punt and decide the challenge is premature, but observers see that as the least likely option. >> over the next half hour we are bringing you both sides of the healthcare debate. >> reporter: we go live to delia gonzalez. the groups have gathered there

as well? >> reporter: objectly. everybody knows this is the day they have been waiting for. ron poll lock, joins us now. you have been in the courtroom for oral arguments and you said everyone knows today is the day. what are you anticipating once you walk inside the doors? >> reporter: well at 10:00 the members will come out and they will issue their last remaining decisions, including obviously the big one. >> reporter: according to our website we know you have been advocate fog better healthcare for all, for 25 years and plus. do you feel like this bill achieves your goal? >> well this bill provides peace of mind for america's families, so they will know healthcare will always be there for them, when they need it. it provides coverage for tens of millions of people who don't have it, it provides subsidies for middle class families, it improves the safety net for those people in low income

families. it makes sure the insurance companies behave themselves, don't deny coverage due to preexisting condition like a kid with asthma or diabetes. it can't charge discriminatory premiums. it provides help for senior citizens who get coverage for their prescription medicine, helps small business pros vied health coverage for their workers. so this will provide peace of mind for america's families. >> reporter: peace at mind we know at issue today is the individual mandate. do you feel like it is fair that the federal government forced folks to buy a product whether or not they want it? >> well this individual mandate is designed to make sure that people aren't free loaders, in effect. they don't pass on their bills to everyone else. and it only applies to those people who can afford health insurance coverage. so i think it is fair. it makes sense. but it is not the heart of the health reform legislation, even

crimcon tempt or civil contempt. the attorney general attended last night's congressional picnic at the white house. he did not make any comments ahead of today's vote. police chief cathy lanier says the indictment of four dc police officers reinforces her message that violence will not be tolerated, no matter who you are. the four officers were indicted yesterday for their alleged roles in a nightclub brawl last june. the officers were off-duty when a fight started outside the lotus club. one man was beaten so severely, he lost an eye. detectives recognize the off-duty officers from security footage. the first tee times are less than an hour away at the at&t national golf tournament. >> that means hard core golf fans are already on their way. kristen fisher beat the rush and is already at congressional and joins us live. good morning scries stun. >> reporter: good morning, we

are less than two hours away from the start of the first round of the at&t national golf tournament. it is going to be a hot day, but right now it is shaping up to be a beautiful morning. right now, prestty quiet, just a few grounds keepers out and about, maintaining, preparing the greens. but the crowds you know it, they are coming. if you are planning to go out today to the congressional country club, just want to go over what you need to know about how to get here and when to get here. if you are planning on driving, what you need to flow, park at rock spring parking lot off 270 near democracy boulevard. it is going to cost you about 20 bucks. another option montgomery county fairgrounds about $10. another option take the metro bus. keep in mind guys, there is no parking available at congressional country club or

we are back at 6:11 on this thursday morning. president obama will visit colorado tomorrow to get a look at the wildfires there. the waldo canyon fire has consumed 300 homes. it is about the size of arlington county, virginia and it is now threatening the u.s. air force academy. the president of syria confirms his nation is now in a civil war. the declaration came after rebels killed seven people. more than 14,000 have died since the government crack down last year. the marines were given a congressional gold medal yesterday. they were the first african-american marine unit, they trained in north carolina starting back in 142.

when it comes to losing weight, it is not all about counting calories. the national institute of health found a low carb diet burns more calories than a low fat one. people in the studies ate the same number of calories, researchers discovered those who ate fewer carbs burned 3 unmore calories a day. but there was a risk of developing heart disease. the food and drug administration is giving the green light to a new antiobesity pill. >> the agency approved the drug for adults who are obese or overweight and have at least one medical condition. anita brickman has the story. >> reporter: the new weight loss drug belviq acts on the area of the rain that controls appetite and metabolism. 51-year-old lisa sutter took the drug for an entire year. in that time she lost 40 pounds, about 20% of her body weight. >> i didn't feel hungry. >> reporter: it can double,

triple the number of people who can lose 10% or more of their body weight in conjunction with a diet program. common side effects include disney i license, fatigue, nausea, back pain and dry south mought. many doctors still feel the safest way to lose weight is through diet and exercise without pills. something as simple as cutting your calories, taking the liquid calories out, getting some extra walking in, helping you to lose the weight slowly and steadily. but sutter, who took the pill, has struggled with her weight since. >> i started feeling extremely hungry again. >> she says belviq was a magic bullet for her and she is relieved the drug will now be available for her and others. anita brickman, 9news now. the fda denied belviq's

middle 90s later on this afternoon. triple-digit heat is on the way. if you are planning to head out generally speak it go has been easy on the major thoroughfares. we have one accident right now, involving a pedestrian struck and a bus involved as well. tons of police activity on the north side of town in wheaton, northbound at gridly road. what i'm told right now is the left turn lane is getting through on the northbound side. at gridly road. southbound remains open. if you are planning to head northbound in toward wheaton. are connecticut avenue. the inner loop may be affected by the bright sunshine the clothesser you get to college park. northbound i-95 just a couple of slow stretches as you head into

affordable healthcare act are awaiting today's decision. >> we are going to go live back to delia, outside of the supreme court this morning waiting for a decision. and she has a guest with her. >> reporter: lots of activity this morning as folks are gearing up for an historic decision. tim fill lops is one of those folks awaiting on edge for the decision we have all been waiting for. we know your organization has been very vocal and very active in your opposition of the healthcare reform. tell me about your position. >> reporter: we think for the government to push this one size fits all program on the country, when they forced the mandate requiring individual americans to why a private product that was clearly unconstitutional. we'll find out if our view is correct but we think this legislation is unconstitution example is a bad idea as well.

>> reporter: certainly folks are talking about commerce. whether or not you are mandating commerce or does the commerce already exist? that is some debate with the court. what do you think? >> i think the legislation clearly creates a requirement to buy private health insurance. our federal government should not be able to force that. it is one thing to mandate programming, but when you are telling americans they have to buy a private product, that is another thing, we think it is clearly unconstitutional. >> reporter: do you feel without this mandate there are portions of this law that could survive and that perhaps should? >> i think the whole thing should be overturned. it is a bad idea and it won't work well. the federal government doesn't do really big social well fares -- programs well. we know insurance costs are

status. 9 local law enforcement agencies in virginia operate under the agreement, allowing the arrest of a criminal suspect based on their immigration status. eights deal on the hill. the senate and house have reached an agreement on keeping a lower rate on federal student loans for one more year. this is also an agreement on the new $100 billion transportation bill. most programs were slated to expire on sunday. instead they will be extended. who hasn't wanted to take a little anger out against a speed camera? police say a maryland man did just that, and they arrested him. bruce lawrence may is charged with assault after using a sling shot to fire glass marbles at a speed camera. there was someone in that van who saw may's vehicle.

a 70-year-old virginia man defended his home against a burglar with the closest weapon he could find, an ashtray. police say 18-year-old paul gore walked into donnie snowdon's home on ports mought saturday. gore had a gun. snowdon's wife woke him up by yelling wake up. gore took off. police caught up with him a block away. you can hear the buzz among golf fans this morning just 30 minutes until the at&t national tournament tease off. >> kristen fisher is live at congressional country club this morning. are you excited? >> reporter: i am incredibly excited. very excited to see what happens here. first layer teague off at 7:00. 20 minutes away. right now we are going to talk to somebody who knows a whole lot more about golf than i do. steve thanks for being with us. so much was made of last year's

u.s. open here at congressional. supposed to be golf's toughest test, the players came out here and absolutely killed it. how do you expect the course to play last year? >> i think the us gawould have loved to have had this course for the u.s. open. it is firm, fast and much harder than it was last year during the u.s. open. i don't think we are going to see a birdie fest, like last year, when rory mcilroy finished at 16 under. yesterday during the pro-am at 7:30 in the morning the greens were already firm and fast. so i think. >> reporter: under par would be a goodwining score and the players know they are going to have to stay out of the rough. >> reporter: tiger two weeks ago at the u.s. open, started strong, disappointing finish. what do you think his mental state is, heading into today's start of the first round? >> i think we are going to see the tiger the first two rounds of the u.s. open when he shot

traffic. other than one situation in wheaton, traffic's been looking pretty good around town. no big accidents, but in wheaton, there is police activity on the northbound side of gridly road, that puts it north of randolph road where a pedestrian was struck by a bus. we have been told now the pedestrian has been taken to the hospital and should be okay, but that investigation will continue through that area. you will find one lane getting by northbound just north of randolph road, so you might want to stick to continue con avenue, southbound the lanes are open. initial delays out of frederick, it is going to be off and on toward clarksburg, and here at falls road the pace looks good, actually. back over to the maps, this time we'll head west on the inbound side of i 66. as you leave route 50 toward 123 and inside the beltway here in falls church, and another look

well. today's humidity is reasonable but as we pull in the south and southwest winds throughout the course of the day, we'll start to notice the rise in the humidity. here's what you need to know getting started on this thursday morning. take your sunglasses with you. you want to keep them handy throughout the day. humidity will just be on the rise, but it is not so bad just yet. in fact later on tonight and into tomorrow we'll see the worst of it. we could stir up dangerous heat as we head into friday. forecast now is pushing us toward the triple-digits by tomorrow afternoon. we have the excessive heat watch in effect starting tomorrow morning. we could have severe weather, strong showers and thunderstorms moving on through. only a slight risk of rain for today. here's how we are looking so far so good. a few of the high, thin clouds. most of the rain should stay away. even a slight rain chance.

right now from our weather cam it is looking pretty good. not so bad as temperatures in the 70s. we will keep our winds out of the southwest. we'll pump a little bit more. close to 5 and 10 miles per hour. there is some moisture up to our north. a pop of moisture starts tomorrow morning. by tomorrow midday, great chance we are hearing storms and showers moving on through. as we head into saturday morning, that sets us up for more heat by the afternoon. a new report cone firms what many of us locals have known for years. >> dewey beach in delaware and 6 beach in delaware.
