andre. does that make you feel any better? 96 by noon. it could be an isolated storm but the bigger story, again, with the heat with a heat advisory in effect from noon until 8:00 p.m. some storms overnight well out to our west. we were worried about the potential getting here for the fireworks. thankfully that did not happen but with the fireworks off to the south and down toward quantico and charlestown with severe weather. this, though, has fallen apart. some rain showers are south of fredericksburg. here are the temperatures, 70s have fallen into the upper 60s. from d.c. east, upper 70s to low 80s going to around 100. monika, any issues out there? >> no problems on the west side of town. on the beltway between 270, the

10,000 in northern virginia. pepco has 22,000 outages, more than 20,000 of those in montgomery county. less than 500 in prince georges county and 1300 in the district. 9news now is out tracking pepco's restoration efforts. >> reporter: certainly pepco is making great progress. you just counted down some of the numbers there. considering we had more than 400,000 people out of power at the height of the storm, we're in good shape. however that does little to ease the minds of the folks who live here in cabin john as you can see behind me. it is pitch black and they under the dark. they've been suffering through a blackout for six days now, but if you spin around, obviously right across the street, there are lights.

so it appears these neighbors have lives and that adds to the frustration of neighbors in the dark and right next door neighbors are enjoying lights and power, ac and tv and all of the amenities we take advantage of every day. so that could be adding to some of the frustration. then of course you add the high temperatures that we've been having. it is a tense situation not only for homeowners but for the pepco crews and contractors who have been working for several days straight. and folks are being -- you know, folks are just frustrated. take a look at video we shot. just a culmination of the storm damage and storm repairs. you know, you can see crews have been making progress, but there is a lot of damage out there. it cannot be underestimated how severe this storm was, so the crews certainly have a big job ahead of them, and one of the jobs is really trying to get

the trust back, regain the trust of some members of the public who, you know, who aren't too impressed with pepco's performance in the past. so pepco initially said by friday they will have everyone on board and back up and running, and it appears that perhaps they could be running a bit ahead of schedule. so everyone has been urging folks to just be patient. as you can imagine with the temperatures soaring and maybe even 100 degrees this weekend, temperatures are running high. back to you, andrea, mike? >> delia, we can understand that. >> fingers crossed. >> with 105 degrees on saturday, we need the power back. d.c. police this morning are looking for suspects after four people were shot last night and just learned that one of the victims has died. the shooting was on first street northwest behind a shopping scepter on new hampshire avenue. police say two adult males and two teenaged boys were outside

an apartment complex when they were shot. one of the surviving victims had serious injuries. the others were grazed. montgomery county police were investigating a deadly shooting involving their officers. it happened at a sandy springs restaurant. police say a man entered the restaurant and pulled out a gun in front of customers. officers called to the scene shot and killed the man after he refused to follow their commands. those officers have been placed on leave during the investigation. police in arlington are searching for a rapist now. a woman was attacked tuesday night while jogging on the four-mile run bike trail near glenn karich park. the person was armed with a knife, dragged her off the trail and sexually assaulted her around 8:00 at night. she ran home, drove herself to the hospital to report the attack and get checked out. now police are working with the woman to complete a composite

good morning and welcome back to 9news now. it is 5:16 and another hot day in the nation's capitol. we've gone down from 81. mentally it feels better. >> you know, the next few days will be tough. saturday will be dangerous heat around here. we're talking 100 to 105 for highs. then next week looks better. we're having another heat advisory going into effect at noon going until 8:00 for everybody east of the blue ridge. once again, heat index values 105, maybe 107. the actual air temperatures

will be rising toward 100 this afternoon. yesterday, we got to 99. a noontime temp, national may be up to 97 by then. i think most of us are in the low to mid-90s and up around 100 with 98 toward 100. slight chance we'll see a storm later this afternoon and evening with the intense heat. nationals have a game tonight at 7:00. game time temp could be around 97 for the first temp. storms out to the west fizzled. off to the south a few severe thunderstorm warnings overnight places like quantico to fredericksburg. that is falling apart. a few sprinkles are still left out of fredericks this morning. temperatures are running well up into the 70s to 81 at the naval air station. out in the shenandoah valleys, you have to go to oak lean and hay market cool at 69. here's the weather camera. skies are partly cloudy out there with a temperature of 80

at national. no wind to help. the humidity is 58%. it is muggy out there this morning. nationally, we've got showers and storms in the rockies and great lakes. there is a big area of high pressure right in the middle of the country. temperatures today in places like st. louis are going to be up toward 106. chicago, kansas city, 103. seeing 100 in lexington. even nashville at 101. potentially 108 in st. louis. and that heat will be expanding toward us, especially for saturday. if it's saturday, you can see some of the dark red and white there as well. we could be 103, 104, maybe 105 locally into saturday. now as we look at the futurecast here and there, we'll just be watching that. otherwise, just get ready for another scorcher. tonight about 79 or 80.

fourth of july celebration at the capitol. >> but as happy as people were to see the fireworks, many were glad to see the sunset and shaller in cooler temperatures. those who staked out their spots on the national mall earlier in the day had to endure like mike, an afternoon high of 99 degrees. >> you felt it, didn't you? >> yeah, we went to the lincoln memorial. the fourth of july parade became a protest march against pepco. frustrated residents say there is a complete breakdown. the responses they received show pepco thinks their problems have been solved even though the power is not back on right now. >> and we want to look at the latest numbers. dominion is reporting 29,000

outages statewide with almost 14,000 in northern virginia. that's an increase in the last hour. pepco has more than 19,000 in mont comrie county. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is live, and where are you this morning tracking the pepco outages? >> reporter: thank goodness for the daylight because you wouldn't see this neighborhood other than that. we're at 7 locks road in cabin john. mike had just mentioned that protest they had yesterday talking about the communication issues with pepco. so there is a lot of frustration in this particular neighborhood and throughout, folks calling pepco or receiving the robo calls. but they are still in the dark.

we'll look at daylight. that gives you an idea of what folks have been dealing with. crews more than 2,000 have been working around the clock to repair the lines and chop down some of the trees that are blocking roadways. it's taking some time. they are ahead of schedule. for those folks still living in the dark, i guess crews can't work fast enough. we talked to folks yesterday and here's what they have to say. it's miserable. >> at some point, public utility's got to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. >> it's just aggravating. it's year after year and time after time. it's always an unprecedented storm. how many times can something be unprecedented? it gets old after a while.

>> reporter: you know, he did manage to laugh about it, and after we spoke to that gentleman, who was in silver spring, he said, you just grin and bear it. the good part of this is, you know, neighbors are coming together sharing food, sharing resources, and so that is the upside of a hot and dark situation for a lot of folks. keeping their fingers crossed that pepco will come through and restore power very soon. back to you, andrea. >> delia goncalves reporting live from cabin john. dominion power says they are working on the last remaining customers without power. that's a relief in reston, virginia. they've been without power for nearly a week, and it is a struggle for seniors who live on top floors without elevator access. even more so for residents who

suffer from asthma and other medical conditions made worse by a lack of air conditioning. dominion, which has seen an increase says nearly all customers will have power by tomorrow night. they are this close to getting evicted. today, a lawyer says he plans to file an urgent request to stop evictions at a prince william county mobile home park. a handful of residents got the eviction notices on tuesday, although police did not carry out those evictions. now there is a lawyer for the residents saying he plans to file an emergency restraining order this morning. you see, this mobile home park was severely flooded last september during tropical storm lee. there is an issue with the electrical. that's what one of the inspectors says. most families who live there have moved out but the last few want to stay. if your home is just too hot and you are willing to brave the hot weather outdoors, the second half of the smithsonian folk light is under way at the national mall.

good morning at 5:48. we have a heat advisory again today? >> yes, and probably tomorrow and a heat warning for saturday. conditions get much better next week, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. it is a very hot item that we're in now. saturday will be dangerously hot around here with air temperatures maybe up to 105. here's a look at today. we have the heat advisory. if you are up in frederick, it will be plenty hot by you as well. same story out in the shenandoah valley. temperatures just won't warrant the heat advisory criteria, which gets a heat index at maybe 100. here's a look at the day planner. by 9:00, we'll be in the upper

welcome back. a rare lobster caught off the coast of ocean city is settling into its new home right here in washington. >> after two weeks of observations and a bill of good health, toby, the rare blue american lobster was lowered into a tank of the national aquarium in northwest d.c. visitors are already "clawing," pardon the pun, for a chance to see toby. >> we're interested to see how he does on exhibit. we're just anxious for folks to come down and be able to see him. >> toby will share the tank with other sea creatures found up and down the atlantic coast. his blue pigment is a result of a genetic mutation which happens once in every 2 million lobsters. the lobstermen who hauled him in brought him to the ri
