those epic storms in just a moment. triple digit temperatures and a strong chance of damaging thunder storms. that's enough for our weather team to declare a severe weather alert for tomorrow and sunday. >> first tomorrow the heat. >> yeah, the heat is going to kick things up tomorrow. you thought today was hot, tomorrow it's going to get worse. we're talking most places getting over 100 degrees. and only an isolated afternoon or evening thunder storm possible. take a lot of breaks if you are working outside. the excessive heat warning is issued for tomorrow starting 11:00 a.m. going until 10:00 p.m. this is the highest heat alert the national weather service will issue. tomorrow is going to be a tough day for a lot of folks. heat index right now when you factor in the humidity, feels like 91 downtown. 91. mid 80s for

martins burg. you are still pretty hot at 90 degrees at this hour. the dew point this is why it feels so hot. lees burg 77. that is some oppressive humidity. records to beat for tomorrow, 102 in downtown. we're forecasted to be above that. a lot of records will be challenged on saturday. talk about those big sunday storms later when i come back. back to you. >> thank you. the extreme heat we've been dealing with could be the reason one of the trains derailed this afternoon causing chaos. weekend riders will have to deal with delays and changes. ken is live at the station where it all went down. >> reporter: already a lot of delays in service because this place is still shut down to rail service. metro officials say it was an inbound trail derailed.

and this heat we've been seeing today and dealing with didn't help the situation at all. that's where officials say it may be to blame for this big mess. >> confusion and panic erupted at the west metro station after three cars came off the tracks prompting a large scale response. >> 95 fire ems folks operating on the scene. assisted in evacuating the people off the train. >> stuck inside the train which had derailed in under ground tunnel. >> physically walked down to the train. meet up with the conductor. make sure they've had a face-to-face. >> one by one the riders had to be escorted up this shaft. you can imagine the heat baring down on them. folks say the temperatures were extreme. >> we had firefighters get to the train and by the time they evaluated them we had ems service standing by.

>> 26-year-old pregnant woman was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. forced metro to shut service between fort totton and prince plaza. plenty of headaches for riders. >> hot and wasn't well organized. >> probably would have been on that train had i not got off at 6th. >> crews are trying to pinpoint exactly what caused the mess and looking at the extreme heat being the culprit. >> we're examining that being the possibility >> this metro station here still shut down. metro rail service still suspended. that's expected to last at least through tomorrow morning. the good news is thankfully no one was hurt. ken molestina 9news now. >> thank you. it's not just the dc area and the grip of this massive heat wave. 18 areas across the nation have set all time records. day after day of temperatures are causing roads

2100 outages in dc. 2200 in montgomery. and 88 people out in prince georges county. myra joins us right now. thanks for joining us. >> thank you. >> good. first, why was 90% the best mark pepco set for restoring the power and when will these last few folks get their lights on? >> we actually the numbers that are showing on our screen if you are looking at our app or the website, those numbers actually include new outages. so the numbers from last friday's storm we have 84 customers left out in dc. most of the ones showing on montgomery county are storm related. that's about 2400. and one customer in prince georges county. new additional outages are related to heat related outages that are new within the last few hours. >> that's good information to have. when do you think all the

lights will be on? >> we will expect to clear up that last customer this evening. we had hoped to get all of those restored. some are going to stretch into tomorrow just because the extensive damage that our crews are facing. it can take multiple crews hours and hours and get one customer back on. when you get into some of the large trees uprooted and that sort of thing. it is exhausted repairs. >> how is pepco preparing for severe storms on sunday? >> we monitor the weather on an on going basis all the time year round. with any storm we're looking at the forecast and figure out crew compliments and holding over as many of these assistance crews as we can. couple of utilities have recalled some of their crews cause they've had storms in their areas. we're going to keep as many as we can for the weekend and continue staffing the call center through the

weekend. >> myra of pepco. thank you for your time tonight. >> dominion virginia says there are no power outages related to last week's storms. bge reports about 600 customers still without electricity. the great majority of customers do have their power back. for many though it's been a long and strange trip and that's putting it nicely like the neighbors here where the power lines are actually under ground. they lost power anyway. after several fits and starts, they restored electricity today. >> very emotional the whole day crying and happy. and we keep hearing a crew has been here but a crew has not been here and then the wrong crew was here. >> they are cruising their -- crossing their fingers. >> employers added 80,000 brand new jobs in the month of june. that was not enough to bring

down the unemployment rate. remains at 8.2%. this was the third straight week job growth. 13 million americans are still out there looking for work and all of that adds up to bad news for investors. the dow dropped more than 120 points today. president obama forced to address the disappointing jobs report through the battleground states. at a stop on a pennsylvania/ohio boarder, he reached out to the democrats who helped him win in 2008. >> i've got a different idea. by building not from the top down but from the middle class up. >> the president 's policies have not gotten america working again and the president is going to have to stand up and take responsibility for it. >> mitt romney is vacationing in new hampshire. the job numbers are worse than being reported. that's because the unemployment rate doesn't take into account the people who are under employed or folks who have stopped looking for work all

together. >> police have charged a man with a slew of crimes including trying to murder a police officer. this after one wild and dangerous confrontation last night in the college park area. investigators allege 21-year-old mccoy was high when his mother called police to their home. investigators say mccoy pulled a gun on his own mother. shot at an officer, stole a police cruiser and crashed it into a wall. in order to subdue him, police say they had to shoot him, tas him and strike him with batons. >> they were confronted by a craze gun man who chose to be under the influence of pcp and shoot at a police officer. >> that officer was not injured at last check. he was in the hospital recovering from his wounds. >> a major blow to serian president. top generals defected today. at a meeting in

paris , hillary clinton lashed out at russia and china. clinton is pushing for tougher sanctions and a resolution that could lead to military actions. george zimmermann is out on bond again. the judge in the case set the bond at a million dollars yesterday. it's a high amount but over concerns that he could flee the country. he is charged with the fatal shooting of trayvon martin in florida back in february. we are on a hot streak but not in a good way. triple digit temperatures we're talking about. >> and is this extreme weather a taste of things to come? could it become a new normal? heated debate over global warming just ahead. and wait until you see this rescue. a horse stuffed in a well. the amazing efforts

in a well. it happened in oregon. the poor horse katy sue. nobody knows how she got in there or how long she was trapped. >> it was only 4 feet by 4 feet opening. so her head was sticking up and one shoulder and one leg. >> the rescue required about a dozen firefighters, a backhoe and medication. she was finally free and only had a few scrapes. nothing broken. >> good. so that horse actually got some relief. but when it comes to this ridiculous weather, doesn't look like we're going to be getting any for a few days. >> is this the new normal? does global warming mean washington can expect higher temperatures as a matter of course? gary is here with the debate. >> you thought derek presided over one debate on the issue. human activity is

are you crazy? with that kind of heat? >> more power to you. >> temperatures only bottom out in the lower 80s. so we're going to heat really quickly. easily be in the 90s by tomorrow morning around 9:00, 10:00. when you factor in the humidity, feel even warmer. it's the heat warning in affect for tomorrow, 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. you want to avoid being outside. we have declared tomorrow a severe alert day because of the heat. heat index feels like 93 in downtown. 91 in lees burg. it is still very warm out there and uncomfortable at times. weather camera for this evening. temperatures 88 but dew point at 70s. that's unbearable humidity. winds from the south at 8 miles per hour. guess what? if you look on the eastern sea board, we're the lucky folks. warmest spot here. aren't we lucky? chicago still hot.

st. louis in the 90s. you can see we aren't dealing with some of the warmest temperatures in the entire country. temperatures tomorrow reaching triple digits. a lot of us can challenge those records. satellite records quiet for tonight. so saturday severe weather alert day because of the chance of record heat. sunday also severe weather alert day. we're worried about the big storms that could impact us by sunday afternoon and sunday evening. overnight clear warm and muggy. lows in the lower 80s. air quality is code red which is unhealthy for all of us. for the afternoon, mostly sunny and hot. record heat, isolated thunder storm possible. highs 101 to 106. average high for this time of year upper 80s. wouldn't that be nice? well above that. 104 in downtown. 104 college pa park. basically everybody making it
