jog, it's pretty nice. lunch time mid-80s. partly cloudy skies. we have only a slight chance for an isolated storm out to the west of town, west of interstate 81. right now lower 70s in downtown. 64 in manassas. # 6 in leesburg. -- 66 in leesburg. lower 60s in winchester and la plata. good morning to you. you're at 66 degrees. satellite and radar showing us most of the showers and storms are south of us. we've got high pressure in control so it's going to be a pretty nice day today. temperatures will top out right around seasonable high. in downtown close to 90. 87 for andrews air force base. upper 80s for arlington. 87 sterling and fairfax you should top out at around 87 degrees. here's a look at your time saver traffic with monika. >> we're going to start off with a live look from sky 9. you're looking at an accident southbound on route 210 at berry road. it's just before the charles county line. nasty overnight accident and you can see that crews are

there. they're going to take a while to clean it up and investigate first. so it's going to be blocked for a while on the southbound side. you want to go ahead and use livingston road instead. northbound you can see also that the lanes are open, although it probably is attracting some attention, at least for that rush hour flow. i'll keep you posted on that situation. let's go to a map so i can show you exactly where it is on the southbound side of route 210 down at berry road. it is blocked at this time. if you're planning to head over in from the west, no problems to report on 66 or on the dulles toll road but a medevac helicopter has been called to an accident which is now blocking balls ford road at groveton road. balls ford is blocked at groveton road. a medevac helicopter has been called to a serious accident in prince william county. i'll show what you it looks like on 270. at least the southbound side all you have are the delays. normal route 109 to 121 and a bit as you head to the point where the lanes divide. i'll have more on those situations again at 6:11.

>> thank you, monika. is this the beginning of the end for d.c. mayor vincent gray or is he digging in for a fight? >> three city council members are now calling for his resignation and there's a new report out this morning on how much he knew about this alleged illegal shadow campaign on his behalf. >> delia goncalves is live outside the wilson building with these latest developments. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. this is a huge development now in this case and it could break it wide open and it could mean that the mayor has quite the challenge ahead of him. "the washington post" now reporting that mayor gray held a private meeting inside his office on the 6th floor here at the wilson building about this money back in january. but mayor gray still denies any thong of the $650,000 -- any knowledge of the $650,000 that was secretly funneled to his campaign. but he does admit, quote, this is not the campaign i intended

to run. genie harris faces years behind bars for her plot. jeffrey thompson is the alleged financial backer in the scheme. he's not been charged but his home and office were raided by the phish. so if prosecutors say the mayor's campaign was corrupt, what about his administration? >> i think it's unfair to say our administration. i have to distinguish between the campaign and the administration. >> i can't tell you how sad i am to come to this position but as a matter of healing the district, i think it's the step we have to take. >> reporter: mary cheh, a long- time supporter of the mayor backed the mayor despite opposition from her own constituents. she along with muriel bowser and david cantania are the council members now calling on the mayor to step down from officer. we'll have his reaction coming up at 6:30. andrea, back to you. >> delia goncalves reporting live outside the wilson building this morning.

american economy. >> congress just has 42 more working days scheduled between now and the end of the year. one of the biggest issues will be funding the federal government which has to be done by october. the man hospitalized after a shootout with prince george's county police is now facing attempted murder charges. authorities say the shootout started with 21-year-old andre mccoy was high on pcp when he held his mother at gunpoint last thursday. tensions flared sparking a gun battle with police. they claim mccoy hopped in a police cruiser and sped off but eventually was subdued after he crashed into a brick wall at the mcdonald's in college park, maryland. lawyers for the man who shot at the pentagon want him to undergo a mental health examination. yonathan melaku has already pleaded guilty to the shootings and agreed to a 25-year sentence as part of a plea deal. his attorneys say their own sigh cry tryst dying --

psychiatrist diagnosed him as schizophrenic. district public school teachers will be trained to administer insulin shots. the council made the decision after a local mom filed a complaint with the u.s. department of ed indication. she says -- education. she said her child was not allowed to attend school when the nurse was absent. 6:06. jessica doyle is watching your money. >> apparently the news isn't so good when it comes to foreclosures. >> and it could be getting a whole lot worse. more and more banks are placing hopes with unpaid mortgages on a countdown. time runs out and the nation could be looking at a new swell of foreclosed properties being dumped on to the market. the time is early next year and the results would likely weigh down everyone's home values yet again. june showed the latest evidence of this trend. realty track says the number of u.s. homes entering the foreclosure process was up for the second month in a row. nearly 13 million home loans are under water with the

homeowners owning more than the house is worth and the properties could be at a higher risk of entering the foreclosure process. american airlines is looking for a mate. the carrier is weighing possible merger partners but analysts say the nation's number three airline only has one viable choice and that would be number five u.s. airways. stay tuned on this one. it often feels like there's a starbucks on every corner, right? now one is going into a funeral home in south carolina. robinson funeral home is undergoing its fourth addition. the new lobby will lead to an area where baristas will discretely serve to mourners and the public alike. starbucks is providing equipment and training. >> i'm conflicted on this. >> wow. >> you go to a funeral and then you can go upstairs and get your coffee and you'll have to pay for the coffee. >> they're going to give out

at a serious accident just south of i-66. i'll have more on that coming up in my next report at 6:17. >> es it -- it is 6:12 this morning. the city of san bernardino, california is filing for bankruptcy. it's home to more than 200,000 people making it the 99th largest city in the country but it's nearly $46 million in debt. city workers will keep getting paid, though, during the bankruptcy. we should know by tomorrow what caused that massive train derailment in columbus, ohio. sabotage has been ruled out. nearly a hundred cars derailed yesterday causing a fire that lasted about 12 hours. we have live pictures of it yesterday morning. no one was hurt in this. no major environmental damage either. did you notice the guy who sang the national anthem at the all-star game? he was looking down at his hand? singer luke brian admits he needed a little reminder and wrote the words on his hand. he apologized and said he just

wednesday close to a hundred of the here's monika with your time saver traffic. good morning. good morning. we're dealing with a serious situation over in prince william county just south of i- 66 where a medevac helicopter has been called. balls ford road near groveton road. just south of i-66 in the wellington-manassas area. you might want to use sudley manor road instead or use i-66 which is where we'll go right now on the inbound side in manassas on our traffic lamb camera. no problems to report on the inbound side of i-66 as you leave sudley road. it will be of course the normal slow traffic. south of 66 with that very serious accident and police on the scene. i'm going to step out and give you some news about the marc brunswick delays. all of the trains are running 10 to 12 minutes late this morning. in my next report an update on that situation in virginia at 6:25. back to you. just about 6:19. coming up in sports, what rg3 is saying about his contract talks with the redskins.

west on groveton road near balances ford road -- bawls ford road -- balances ford -- balls ford road. crews are there trying to figure out what's going on in the woods whrrks it was a car or motorcycle. we think it may have been a motorcycle involved. in the meantime groveton road is closed near balls ford road. i'm suggesting that you go ahead and use sudley manor road or i-66. of course as your alternate route. that's just the normal slow stuff this morning. this is again groveton road near balls ford road. back over to the maps and this time we'll head south on 270. normal slow stuff down toward 121. all lanes are open. it's still pretty light down to the point where the lanes divide. i'll show what you it looks like live at 109. again it's just the slow volume. otherwise all lanes are open. i'll be back with more on the accident out in manassas at 6:43.

communication revelation. that's ahead when we see you at 7:00. >> now that's cool. >> that's going to be really great. >> it is. >> erica, have a good morning. in other news, growing calls for congressman jesse jackson, jr. to reveal more information on his health problems. the illinois democrat has been out of work for nearly three weeks. all people will say is that he's dealing with serious health challenges, including a mood issue but that's not enough for some including maryland congressman and minority whip steny hoyer. >> people get sick and when people get sick, they miss work. everybody in america understands that, but i think the family would be well advised to give his constituents as much information as is appropriate. >> but the governor of illinois agrees democrat path quinn voters have heard enough and don't need to know more about congressman jackson's health issues. d.c. mayor vincent gray reportedly may have known back

"the washington post" reports he learned during a meeting inside the wilson building back in january. delia goncalves is live with more on this report and the increasing calls for the mayor to resign. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, mike. this is quite the bombshell. "the washington post" cites three independent sources close to this case that say the mayor's meeting was indeed about the campaign and the investigation and of course genie harris who pled guilty in court the other day to her part in this whole scheme confirms she indeed met here with the mayor at the wilson building. but mayor gray still denies any knowledge ever the $650,000 illegal campaign fund simply saying he thought they raised a lot of money but can now admit, quote, it was not the campaign he intended to run. consultant and long-time friend 75-year-old genie harris faces two years behind bars for her

part in this whole scheme. >> i've known her for a very long time. i feel very badly about this but at the same time i'm concerned about what may or may not have happened in this campaign. >> we're stuck in this daily, depressing release of information and legitimacy of the election, the legitimacy of the office is called into question. we can't have that anymore. >> reporter: council members mary cheh, muriel bowser and david cantania causing for his resignation. a spokesperson for the mayor says this is the kind of irresponsible talk we've come to expect from council member cantania. cheh says this is not about the law. this is simply about what's best for the district of columbia residents. it is all the talk on twitter

this morning. the noise for his resignation is getting louder and louder. the last tweet i read was from a constituent anna greenberg and she said it's time to rip the band aid off. we'll see what happens if here. >> here we go. we'll be following this all day. thanks, delia live outside the wilson building this morning. we did some research and found out the city council isn't simply censure a mayor for his actions. it can only censure other members of the council for actions they may have done. later today penn state is expected to release the findings of its internal investigation into the jerry sandusky sex abuse scandal. the report is expected to shed light on how late head football coach joe paterno and other school officials handled reports of abuse on campus. sandusky was convicted on 45 counts of child sex abuse last month. he'll be sentenced later this year. 6:35 now. power companies in our region are reviewing their responses

to last month's historic storm. potomac edison had more than 65,000 customers without power at one point. the president of the company's maryland operations spoke with us yesterday about what the company is doing now moving forward. >> there's always lessons we're going to learn from this as we can now start to debrief the event, but, you know, again, i think the employees and the linemen and out of contractors and linemen did a great job under very difficult conditions. >> the washington council of governments is now going to investigate the 911 outage that followed last month's storm. people across northern virginia could not access the emergency line in the hours after the storm hit. the main problem was when a verizon facility in arlington lost power that knocked out the 911 service, the cog will see what needs to be done to make sure that does not happen again. 6:36. jessica doyle is watching your money and your family's safety. >> and your little baby.

>> that's right. they're -- there are major safety concerns of baby monitors of all things. they're supposed to keep our beloved safe but they can also pose health hazards of their own. that's why baby monitors are now the focus of a safety campaign being launched today. the devices are linked to seven deaths in three -- and three near strangulations. our partners the awe d.a. -- "u.s.a. today" say baby monitors should all carry warnings about their cords. there are new signs of mounting troubles for jcpenney. s&p is lowing its credit rating four foreveres below -- four foreveres below investment -- notches below investment grade. concerns are growing about the company's ability to turn things around. shoppers have been turned off by the new pricing plan that eliminates hundreds of sales in favor of everyday prices and the stock has lost half its

value since february. san francisco will not buy apple computers anymore. that's after the company stopped participating in an environmental certification program used by governments and universities to make purchasing decisions. apple actually helped start this program, but it may be pulling out now because of design changes for its new mac book pro. that has people asking is hip design more important than being green. the certification program dig at a times about 95 -- dictates about 95% of purchasing decisions by government. so this is a big deal for apple to basically pull out of this. >> wow. thanks, jess. >> thank you. >> you've got it. we just heard telestar satellite is 50 years old. how about this? the rolling stones turn 50 today. it was on this date in 1962 that mick jagger, keith richards, charlie watts and ronnie woods took the stage together for the very first time. they didn't even have a name then. they made up one on the spot taking it from a muddy waters
