person still on the loose. all this happened just a short time ago near the 4700 block of 68th avenue and we are looking into reports that some type of vigil had been taking place in that same area at the time of the shooting. now to our top story. a sheriff's wife is murdered in their home. the crime remains unsolved for nearly nine years. he joins her in death today. after all this time, the alexandria police department insist the murder of nancy dunning is an active case. gary reports $100,000 sits in the bank ready for anyone who comes forward with the answer. >> anita, that reward fund came together within weeks of nancy dunning's murder. her friends needed something to do. 8 1/2 years later, they are still looking for answers. >> december 14, 2003, nine

days after nancy dunning was murdered, friends leave a trail of candles that stops at the front door of the alexandria home where she was killed. targeted by someone she knew. >> she was the one that lit this neighborhood up. >> she was called the queen of dell ray. a tight knit alexandria community she helped bring to life. gayle is a friend who put together $100,000 reward fund in 2003 urging anyone with information about her death to come forward. >> i believe that somebody knows something. >> nancy was married to ann sal alexandria. he was questioned in the case, but never charged. >> before her death, dunning had been shopping at this target store in potomac. and not surprisingly, friends say, she was buying christmas gifts for a friend in need. and it is in this store that police found a lead.

>> still don't know who this guy is. >> left at the same time as nancy dunning and police wanted to question him. in 2005, police said what they still say in 2012. >> this is by no means a cold case. >> in part because a career in law enforcement can lead to angry criminals investigators looked at sheriff dunning, his death, and further inquiries. the reward money is still there. >> hopefully reminding people that there's $100,000 waiting to be collected. somebody might come forward and with that one piece of information, it would help the police solve the case. >> nancy dunning's friends remain optimistic. but the death of sheriff dunning makes a difficult investigation more difficult still. anita. >> it does. pepco officials in the hot seat. this time it's a special committee from the d.c. council that wants answers. those details aren't coming easily, according to one councilwoman. at the hearing tonight and he is live with more.

ken. >> anita, councilwoman described the process of trying to get straight answers from pepco is quote, pulling teeth. we also tried to get questions answered following today's hearing and basically, got a cold shoulder from pepco executives. >> excuse me. >> the man ignoring me questions is dave. he's the executive vice president of pepco holding. >> do you have 30 seconds for a couple of questions? >> not right now. >> he used to answer questions as he and other executives ducked into an elevator and out of the wilson building. he and the rest of the executives did however, do a lot of talking during the special hearing before district leaders. even then, one d.c. council member says their answers weren't straightforward. >> some of the answers were like pulling teeth. our residents are frustrated. >> councilwoman asked questions regarding underground lines, reliability, and rapid response among other things. there were contradicting numbers being thrown out in

regards to the amount of linemen on the job. >> if you notice if i asked him the question several times, we finally got down to the answer. >> she isn't completely satisfied with the outcome of the hearing and pepco is still not in the clear of further action to get them to open up about the response following the storm. >> i really don't know. i really don't know why they wouldn't answer the questions, but if it takes a formal investigation to get the questions, that's something that we can do. >> i spoke with jim griffin, which represents pepco employees. he testified at the hearing today about the number of lineman. here's what he had to say. he said right now pepco has 123 lineman, 209 in 1993. anita. >> had there not been speculation that the current number isn't accurate? what does griffin say about that? >> the number of working

linemen is less because according to him, 20 of them only work as the assistants to these crews. he says another 20 are second class line mechanics, which means they can only restore power to a utility crew. the ones that actually have training to work on major power lines, which is less than 100. >> okay. ken, thank you. it is friday the 13th, but for a d.c. man named kirk odum, it could not be a better day. he spent more than 22 years behind bars for a rape he did not commit. he served a sentence and was released back in 2003. recently, dna tests showed he was not the rapist. today, a judge declared curt innocent and vacated his conviction. by the way, today is his 50th birthday. actor, silvester devastated after the death of his son. he was 36. sources are telling tmz he died

find out about a shadow campaign this past january. but the mayor would not detail what he knew or anymore about the illegal contributions that helped get him elected. three people have been convicted in the federal investigation so far and the u.s. attorney's office tells us there are other coconspirators who have not been indicted yet. the 2012 presidential campaign is getting more intense. president obama and mitt romney traded over romney's business record today. the obama campaign accuses romney of lying and romney says he wants an apology. cbs's danielle nottingham reports from the white house. >> the 2012 campaign for the white house has a new key issue. the outsourcing of american jobs. president obama and mitt romney traded attacks friday over romney's role at the private equity firm. the obama campaign says that

officer. so, you know, it's going to be one of those. >> the secret service says it is taking appropriate action in this matter. george zimmerman wants a new judge to preside over his murder trial. zimmerman's attorney filed a motion to dismiss florida circuit judge. they claimed the judge is bias against the former neighborhood watch leader who is accused of murdering trayvon martin. >> j.p. morgan chase says its $2 billion blunder is way more serious than they originally thought. the bank's bad trade appears to have cost the company $5.8 billion. ceo says he fired the managers in charge of the trade and he is taking back two years worth of their pay from each of them. >> admitted the problem and making systems changes. time will tell if they are doing the right things. >> the bad trade could cost the company another $1.7 billion in future losses. but after all of this, j.p.
