there. another sticky day. temperatures heating up quickly once again. temperatures will be in the mid 90s by this afternoon. here's a look at your day planner. so we are waking up to cloudy skies right now. but by this morning at 9:00, we should be under partly cloudy conditions. temperatures in the 80s, by lunch time lower 90s. late this afternoon 95 degrees and by 6:00 in the lower 90s. 77 in downtown, leesburg 69 degrees now doppler showing us showers and storms went through last night, but right now, things are quiet. we have cloudy conditions out there and it should be a dry morning commute for you. 95 in downtown. annapolis you should top out in the lower 90s. a slight chance for an isolated storm this afternoon.

we'll talk more about the heat but first monica with your -- monika with your traffic. first one is an overnight accident westbound on i-70 after route 2. that one did involve a tractor trailer. once you are beyond that you are okay out to mount airy and frederick. on the beltway american legion bridge no problems between 270 and tyson's corner. you are running smoothly. this time over to the other side of town. there had been an accident north of dale city sitting on the shoulder for awhile. you are okay now up into woodbridge springfield northbound side of i-95. frank conia springfield parkway. coming up in my next report we'll look at 66. twice this weekend the

computer glitch brought metro rail systems to a standstill. there is still no word on what caused the problem. 9news now is live at the hendley town station are the escalators working? >> reporter: the escalators are working. let's keep our fingers crossed for that one. this morning after a frustrating commute for lots of folks this weekend, here we are monday morning still no clear answers as to why these computer glitches occurred. they will have extra staff on hand in case they go in the dark again. trains on all five lines came to a complete halt twice on saturday when the control center's computers crashed. no one was hurt. metro never lost radio communication with train operators and a system that controls safe distance between the trains was never affected. riders described an absolutely

frustrating commute and some say it took nearly three hours. > >> due to the fact you have so many trains it should have been a little easier still to keep this thing running. >> the sense that seeing is believing, even though you hear you may be able to communicate. you still may be want to say physically this is where the train is. >> it is very frightening. it makes me think of what we would do in a case of a real emergency. i don't think there is a sufficient plan in place. but i think the new director of metro is making moves in the right direction. >> however even the new director of metro will tell you it is a long battle because there was so much maintenance performed.

led to a pedestrian crash. officers got the call to oak street very early sunday. police inside a white car say at least two men with guns came up to their car and ordered them to get out and lie on the ground. one passenger did but then something startled the driver who hit the gas and ran over the person on the ground and killed him. the gunmen ran away and have not been caught. police are searching for a missing 75-year-old man. officers say oscar washington was last seen around 11:00 a.m. yesterday in the backyard of his daughter's home in bowie. washington is six feet tall, weighs 170 pounds. he is missing a right pinky fingernail. last seen on foot wearing a green shirt green khaki pants and dress shoes. washington suffers from high blood pressure and memory loss.

police say two pit bulls pounced on a 40-year-old man when he got out of his truck. the man's son was in the truck he screamed for a neighbor for help. officers spotted the dogs at a nearby town house. one of the dogs was shot and killed. the other dog was captured and taken to the animal welfare league. the father is now in the hospital with bites on both of his arms. the time right now is 5:06. i am watching your money. it would be nice if we could have another just like friday. the big rally then, checking the numbers, happy to do so this morning. the dow starts today at 12777. added 203 points on friday. nasdaq was better by 42 and the s & p 500 was up 22 points. made in the usa takes on more importance when you are talking about the uniforms our olympians will be wearing.

designer ralph lauren had the usa uniforms for the opening ceremonies made in china. it is too late to change that. the usa olympics committee is saying the opening ceremonies uniforms for the 2014 games will be made in the under the circumstances. -- in the united states. amazon is adding distribution centers in ten states over the next four years. it is going to start in pennsylvania and california in september. analysts say that will enable the company to offer delivery of many products just hours after orders are placed online. the move is considered a way of remaining competitive as more states push toward charging sales tax on amazon purchases. that would be awesome. >> my wife loves amazon. that would be a huge dent in my checkbook.

by early this morning temperatures will be in the 80s under partly cloudy conditions. plenty of sunshine lower 90s by 1:00. then we'll top out in the mid 90s for 3:00 or so. looks like we have only a slight chance for an isolated storm or shower. 69 in leesburg, winchester 72. doppler radar showers and storms went through last night. but right now we are not looking at any rain on the radar, cloudy conditions. again the clouds will clear out. you will want to bring your sunglasses, highs 95 in downtown. fredericksburg close to mid 90s. baltimore 93, frederick and you'll get to mid 90s. hotter conditions for tuesday and wednesday. we'll talk more about that.

vincent gray today? >> jean clark awaits sentencing after she admits she helped raise a shadow campaign. she met gray january 10 to discuss what to do with vouchers from this shadow campaign. the mayor told associates that was when he first learned a shadow campaign even existed and he immediately contacted an attorney. >> the u.s. attorney said we had a tainted election. there was election fraud and in my mind, when there is cheating there is a whole question about legitimacy. mural bowser who plans to run for mayor is one of three council members who called on gray to resign. legal observers say the case will most likely hinge on when gray found out about the shadow campaign and when he took any

action to try to cover it up. metro is still trying to figure out what caused the entire train system to shut down twice over the weekend. >> reporter: the story doesn't go too far because metro doesn't know exactly what happened. the morning commute is underway, hopefully without any major issues on all five lines of the metro system. we can tell you the metro will have extra staff on hand in case they run into any additional problems. 40 trains on all five lines stopped literally in their tracks saturday. twice. once in the afternoon and then again around 1:00 in the morning. metro says the control center's computers went bark and they could no longer see those trains. they were, however able to communicate with train

operators via radio. and even though the system that keeps a safe distance between trains was intact, board members still want answers. >> it is very disturbing. customers have a right to reliable and if people are going to use the public transit system, then they have to believe it is a reliable system. the kind of glitch that happened works against people want to go use metro and that is a bad thing. >> we are all very frustrated anytime our passengers are frustrated. we have to keep investing in the system and making sure the staff is doing what they are supposed to do. >> reporter: metro released a statement sunday saying they stopped the trains in an abundance of caution. we are still waiting to hear exactly from them this morning this regards to what went wrong and what they are doing to fix

the problem. all they have done overis release the statement via e-mail. so far so good on all the metro lines this morning. we'll see how the rest of the day goes. fingers crossed so far. a clear evacuation plan adding data recorders and safer rail cars to some of the things lawmakers are trying to do, to make your trip on the train safer. a delegation of lawmakers from maryland and members of the national transportation safety board are going to announce a plan today that will improve transportation and call for federal funds to continue supporting metro. today montgomery county planning board is going to hear a proposal for light rail service through chevy chase
