planner. it is cloudy out there, parly cloudy by 9:00, 83 degrees in the upper 80s. in the 90s by lunch time. temperatures top out in the mid 90s. right now 70s in downtown. 72 in manassas and doppler showing us the showers and storms came on through last flight and they are now off to the east. looking at cloudy conditions right now. looking at rain in the area. we did see a couple of wet roads driving in, but we are expecting a dry commute. highs today, 94 in manassas, and we are looking at even hotter conditions for tomorrow. wednesday also in the upper 90s. scattered showers and storms to break us from the heat.

outages metro is still trying to figure out what caused the computer problems that brought service to a halt saturday and sunday. >> this morning metro's rail and the it department dollars are doing whatever they can to try to prepare in case of another outage. >> no problems this morning. good morning. >> reporter: escalators working just fine, you know a lot of passengers are still a little gun-shy. maybe nervous about the whole situation that went down over the weekend. many have asked us is everything working okay is metro running on schedule? you can understand lots of folks are hesitant as they are heading on to the trains this morning. however in case they run into a

snag, metro has extra staff. trains came to a complete halt twice saturday. no one was hurt. metro said they never lost radio communication with train operators and a system that controls safe distance between trains was never affected but riders describe a frustrating commute that took over three hours. >> having to make other preparations because of the trains being down. it was longer than 30 minutes. >> it was absolutely terrifying. realistically stuff happens and you have to hope everything is okay. >> i'm angry they have been done routine maintenance over the years. i think that is the bottom line. that is why i have a great deal of faith in the person who is the director of metro.

>> the new director of metro, richard sorrels, has been making some progress. he says numerous times because of metro's lack of maintenance in the past he has an uphill battle and getting the system back up and running. he does admit there are many problems and they are looking into this particular problem. still no exact answers but so far so good on the metro this morning. coming up at 6:30 we'll tell you who else is going to put metro's feet to the fire to find out exactly what happened and how these passengers can have some assurance that when they get on the trains they are going to reach their destinations in time. a bizarre attempted carjacking turns deadly in a fairmont heights, maryland. police are still looking for the suspect this morning. two armed men wearing masks

aapproach a car full of people on oak street sunday. they order people to get out of the car and tell them to lie on the ground. one of the passengers in the car does this. that is when the driver of the vehicle got so scared he took off and accidentally ran over the passenger on the ground, killing him. if you know anything about this crime, call 1-866-411-tips. an arlington man is recovering after being attacked by two pit bulls. his son saw the whole scene unfold right in front of him. yesterday afternoon near walter reed drive and south oakland street the 40-year-old man was getting out of his truck when the dogs jumped on him. one of the dogs was shot and killed after it charged the

figured out what caused these glitches. over the weekend because metro couldn't get to the bottom of the problem after the first blockout saturday afternoon the computer system crashed a second time 12 hours later. 44 trains were affected, no passengers hurt though. metro says radio communication with train operators remain and the system to keep trains from a safe distance from each other was also intact. they and the riders need some answers. >> it is very disturbing. i don't recall this has ever happened before. customers have a right to relibel. the glitch that happened works against people want to go use metro and that is a bad thing. >> we'll definitely get to the bottom of it. actually we talked about this thursday. making sure there are reports

and a senior staff meeting to figure out what happened in these cases. we are told the it department has taken steps to minimize the chance of a repeat in their investigation. it is continuing as riders keep their fingers crossed. definitely hoping for ride tors go there on time this morning. police found a car belonging to sam last night. however he has not been seen since the double shooting at a nail salon. the suspect shot his estranged girlfriend and a male companion inside the shop. the search continues if a suspect who shot a man in a crowded apartment complex in langley. his name is not being released at this point.
