12:18 pm
definitely -- seven hours is my new target. >> reporter: it's certainly something to sleep on. randall pinkston, cbs news, new york. >> researchers also say that the change in the amount of time that women sleep is just as important as how long they sleep. women who sleep -- whose sleep changed at least two hours per day from the beginning of the study to the end purchased worse on cognitive tests than those with no change. keep that in mind. the president and first lady were caught kissing on camera. they started out a little camera shy at first. when the kiss cam showed them last night at the game. verizon center. around the crowd booed them. you know crowds. and then the camera showed them a second time and i think their daughter said kiss, kiss, kiss. this time the president planted a big one on his wife.
12:19 pm
and the crowd loved it. >> oh, yeah. they seem so in love. >> the daughters cheering them on. >> yeah, yeah. it's going to be hot today so get ready. >> exactly. the good thing is, this heat won't be lasting for days on and days out. it's a couple of days of some pretty hot weather and then we'll cool down relatively pretty quickly by the end of the week. so for today i think we could challenge some records. temperatures will get up into the upper 90s and close to 100 degrees today. we do have a chance for some isolated storms today, better chance will be tomorrow. by 9:00 temperatures will cool down into the lower 90s. here's a look at our michael & son weather camera. you can see we've got mostly sunny skies out there. right now temperature 93 in downtown. dew points are in the 60s and 70s. so it will still be humid. the winds are calm. unfortunately no breeze to help us cool down a little bit. satellite and radar picture
12:20 pm
showing us high pressure in control. tomorrow things will change as a front comes through tomorrow through thursday and then we'll see cooler air by then and some storms, though. currently 93 in downtown. 90 in gaithersburg. 93 in culpeper. 90s in winchester. pretty much everybody in the 90s with a few exceptions and the dew points, yeah, still pretty humid out there. 69 in downtown. 7 0z up north -- 7 ons up north. -- 70s up north. it's going to feel hot there. we'll challenge the record of 100 degrees set in 1997. here's a look at the 9 futurecast. just a slight chance for a pop- up thunderstorm. anything that does end up bubbling up today has a chance to be strong or severe. now, tomorrow a better chance for some showers and storms arrive in the afternoon and for the evening hours and those storms tomorrow also have a chance to be strong to severe. so you definitely want your
12:21 pm
umbrellas tomorrow. thursday also will be unsettled as well. probably will see some more cloud cover. thursday will not be as hot compared to today and tomorrow. we start in western maryland. oakland 83. cumberland 94. hagerstown and martinsburg in the mid-90s. culpeper 100. warrenton, manassas in the upper 90s. in downtown we're getting up to 99 degrees. annapolis upper 90s. pax river 97 degrees. all right. the nats are also playing tonight for baseball. first pitch at 7:05. it will be in the mid-90s then. also a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm so keep that in mind. make sure you bring lots of water. next three days code yellow because of the heat and tomorrow looking hot as well. upper 90s. thursday not as hot but still unsettled, around 90 degrees for thursday. friday and saturday into the 80s. the weekend actually looks really nice. temperatures will top out in the mid- to upper 80s so enjoy your weekend. jc's back after the break.
