6:30 am
the delay. the heaviest part will be route 7100 right here traveling inbound right now toward route 50. again the good news is that the accident is clear. the bad news is that accident is -- oops, we've lost that shot. no problems to report on the north side of town. 95 coming in from baltimore past laurel to the beltway, it's fine. once you get to the outer loop you'll hit the brakes from 95 heading toward silver spring and georgia avenue. we'll take a last live look of route 50 headed to the beach. looking good. no delays to the bay bridge. coming up in my next report, we'll go over to 270 at 6:43. back to you. >> thanks so much, monika. cbs this morning just about 30 minutes away. >> charlie rose joins us live from new york with a preview. of course i would imagine you're talking about syria this morning, charlie. >> we indeed are. that and much more. good morning, mike and jessica. ahead senior correspondent john miller provides an inside look at the stealth war already under way between iran and israel. only on cbs this morning. a former iranian agent reveals how iran could be preparing for
6:31 am
global terror campaign that includes u.s. targets. and this, 55 years ago today five men voluntarily stood underneath the test explosion of a nuclear bomb. we'll show you how it was all captured on film and find out what happened to the men in the years since. that and more when we see you at 7:00. >> thank you, charlie. have a good show. we'll talk to you tomorrow. a new poll suggests public support for mayor vincent gray is dwindling. >> a "washington post" survey shows nearly half of his political base is now saying he should resign. delia goncalves joins us live now from the wilson building with more this morning. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, mike. mayor vince gray says he ran for office because he loves the district of columbia, but according to this poll, it appears the love the district had for him is nearly been at this point. 37% including those who rallied in support of the mayor outside the wilson building yesterday want gray to stay in office but listen to this.
6:32 am
52% want him to resign now. breaking down that 52%, 48% of african-americans and that was a huge base for the mayor to get him into office in 2010 now want him out of office. and the mayor's support among women is dwindling down to 6% from 37% for white women. east of the river where the mayor lives that has dropped 40%. three council members have called for the mayor's resignation after learning of the $653,000 illegal shadow campaign but others, including council member tommy wells and vincent orange are taking a different approach. >> we have time to hear some more facts. i think the mayor has to explain himself. our city has been damaged. at this point he has not been charged. i think he's in a pickle. damn if you do, damn if you don't. >> reporter: that's one way of
6:33 am
putting it. genie harris is the third campaign aide to plead guilty to federal charges in connection to this shadow campaign. she now says the mayor knew about this campaign and the illegal money back in january. we know, though, the f.b.i. is looking into several other people connected to the mayor's campaign. so this investigation is far from over. and one last thing i should mention as pretty startling, the poll says that gray's approval rating is down to 29%. that's a near record low foe a d.c. mayor. mike, jessica? >> wow, astonishing. thank you, delia live at the wilson building this morning. looks like buses from out of town are now being brought in to pick up the slack after this ride on bus caught fire in sill sprer spring -- silver spring yesterday. the buses today and tomorrow will rung on a holiday schedule. thankfully no one was hurt in this but the bus driver's union says this is the 13th champion
6:34 am
model bus to go up in flames since 2009. the union has been fighting with county administrators to get these buses off the roads for years now. >> the mechanics are relieved because they assume the concern that i share about the safety of their colleagues but also the patrons that get on the bus. every time they release that bus to be put on the street, they're concerned about the safety of that bus as they should be as professionals that they are. >> county executive ike leggett ordered all ride on buses off the street and now the county is looking to replace the entire fleet. the time right now it is 6:34. i am watching your money and perform mansz review -- performance review. these reviews oftentimes the employees don't agree with the results. a recent survey found employees and employers see things very
6:35 am
differently when it comes to these reviews. this morning i'm joined by the president of the mid-atlantic district. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> tell us a little bit about this survey. we're not seeing these things exactly the same way as employer-employee come review time? >> what we found were employers were certainly more apt and interested in giving them versus employees weren't as excited about receiving them but i think it had -- it has more to do with communication on both sides. >> let's say you're an employee and facing down a performance review or in the midst of it because many workers have to go through this at least once a year. what's the best way to make this work for us? >> i think the key thing is on the employer side, it's very clear it's important that the time ever the performance review isn't the only time to deliver feedback. any time there's a surprise for the employee where it comes completely out of left field, they had no idea that the employer felt that way, that's
6:36 am
not a good thing. this isn't an excuse and a time to just give feedback. there should be constant feedback and the employee should know where they stand at all times. this is more of a formalized process that allows people to go through certain things and objectives and actually set goals. >> let's say you're an employee and didn't like something in your review. you think it's out of left field, off base. what do you do at that point? is there a best practices if you don't like something? >> that's a good question. i think it's important to hone in with the employer, with the manager and say give me an example because the manager must be very specific with where that's coming from. where we often come into problems are the very general statements afternoon the employee doesn't -- statements and the employee doesn't understand where it's coming from. the employee needs to ask the question give me an example so we can come to agreement about what that person needs to do to improve their performance and hopefully have a long career with them. >> this isn't an easy time for the employer. they're doing the performance
6:37 am
review. sometimes there's a sense that hey, if this employee does well, they're going to ask for a raise, maybe the budget isn't there. what are this of the things the employer has to consider? >> i think it's important to be in line with the employee as far as what is that person's objectives long term and setting goals and whether they're compensation based over the long term or certain promotions in line or certain tasks you can give to that person so they can show more value provided there's clear direction, clear goals and not just say it on september 1 and then follow up the following september 1. there needs to be constant communication on both sides. >> really good advice and something we all have to deal with on a regular basis. thanks so much for giving it to us. we appreciate it. >> my pleasure. i'm going to send it over to mike in the kitchen. >> not a bad place to be. if you're looking at throwing a party this weekend or just want something special to sip on as you head into your weekend, you'll want to check out our mixologist here. josh will show you how to pimp
6:38 am
your daiquiri. we'll tell what you that means, too.
