>> an update on breaking news out of arlington. two bodies along 31st street south. our ken molestina is live. he has the latest. ken. >> very active police investigation out here. 4520 south, 31st street. i want to show you what it looks like. police investigating two bodies that were found dead inside an apartment, as you can see, police still standing guard out front as investigators are inside trying to figure this out. let's show you video. here's what police are telling us. a relative walked into the apartment and they found the dead couple inside. they called police shortly before 3:00 p.m. that couple right now only being described as being hispanic and they were involved in some kind of a romantic relationship. police aren't saying if they were married or what the situation was, except to say they were involved in a

romantic relationship. right now they are still a lot of details coming out of this investigation. still very fresh and very new to police. police right now tell us they are trying to get to the bottom of all of this. >> detectives are on scene. they are making contact with family members, trying to see where these individuals were prior to this incident occurring. just trying to figure out again, motives, why they were at the time. >> back out live, another look at the crime scene where police are saying right now at this moment, it looks like it's a murder suicide investigation that they have on their hands. police saying this is a very quiet neighborhood and this kind of activity -- last time there was a homicide. it was back in 2010. again, police on the scene. they have a will the of work ahead of them and trying to figure out what happened out here. we'll let you know what happens, back to you guys. >> thank you so much. prosecutors have less than a week to come up with a complete list of charges in the colorado

theater shootings. much of their evidence comes from the suspect, james holmes' apartment. and as elizabeth reports, we are slowly starting to learn more about what was inside and just how dangerous and complex it was for police. >> designed to kill. that's how police describe his apartment. police responded after taking the 24-year-old into custody early friday morning when he gunned down dozens of people inside a movie theater killing 12. he warned police about his explosive one bedroom apartment and what they found was a booby trapped disaster waiting to happen. >> this would be one of the first times what we can describe as a house bomb in the united states. some of these things do exist overseas. we have seen them in places like iraq and afghanistan. >> according to a law enforcement official, the space was rigged with more than 30

homemade grenades and so gallons of gasoline. it was calculated to maximize the strength. the control box is being examined by the fbi. holmes stockpiled supplies and weapons in recent months. evidence they allege of calculation and deliberation. a stark contrast, experts say, to the dazed suspect who made his first court appearance monday. >> what i saw yesterday was really interesting because for the last 60 days, he has been methodical, careful, in control, and then he comes in to court and all of a sudden, i don't believe it. >> holmes is being held without bond. he is expected to be charged next week. i'm elizabeth reporting. we also learn today that a woman planning to attend the university of maryland as a grad student, this fall, is among the injured in aurora. anderson was shot four times, three times in the arm and once in the head. after five hours, doctors found

little damage to her brain. it is because anderson has a birth defect that helped her survive the shooting. doctors say a shotgun pellet went through her nose and instead of hitting the tissues most of us have inside our heads, it entered a channel of fluid. the bullet traveled through her brain safely, making several twists and turns before coming to rest at the back of her skull. she is expected to make a full recovery. amazing. an update on that man in maine who may have been planning a copy cat attack in the wake of the aurora attack. timothy is being held on $50,000 bail after entering a not guilty plea. he was arrested sunday after a police officer clocked him doing 112 on the main turnpike. thousands of rounds of ammunition in his car. he told them he was going to kill his former boss after seeing the dark knight rises. it is one of three incidents

since friday's shootings relating to the film. a movie theater was evacuated. and in arizona, 50 people fled a theater after a man was drunk got into a confrontation with police. so far, the candidates have been weary of turning the shooting into a push for gun control reform. mitt romney was addressing the veterans of foreign wars. his focus turns to foreign policy as he heads to england on thursday. from there, he heads to israel and poland. president obama is in the mist of a three-day swing out west. here at home, the political battle has been on all year to sway voters. in a swing state like virginia, both campaigns put an intense focus on women and women's issues. scott broom spent the day in loudoun county. >> the most powerful

republican political lives were here in ashburn, virginia, going on offense. after a rough year on so-called women's issues in the old dominion. a restaurant full of republican women, cheering on the wives, attorney general, ken cuccinelli, lieutenant governor, and key, mitt romney adviser rs beth meyers. >> it is the women that will make the difference in this election. you look at every poll across the country. it is all, whenever we talk about our swing voters, we are talking about women. >> virginia terved as a key battleground in the so-called war on women touted by democrats. there was no mention here of the political burn socially conservative state republicans received after pushing an insinned area proposal to mandate probes for women seek abortion. instead, these women now blame president barack obama's economic policies for women's

a drunken night with friends leaves a man in the hospital. caught on tape. investigators say what you are seeing in this tape is someone dousing william's head in rum. then another friend sparks a lighter next to his head and that sends the 36-year-old running for water after his head catches fire. he has second degree burns, but expected to make a full recovery. police don't plan to file any charges. >> he did this willingly. >> okay. all right, we have an update on plans to bring a streetcar to arlington county. the county board approved a plan to run those cars along columbia pike between pentagon city and bailey's cross roads. the project is expected to cost about $250 million. but it still needs approval from the federal transit administrate. what do the american

it survived a trip through earth's atmosphere while traveling at speeds up to 7600 miles an hour. that shield is part of a project designed to come up with better ways to protect nasa spacecraft from the stresses of reentry. meantime, scientists are trying to get to the bottom of a freak event in greenland this month. check out these image frs nasa. on the left, an image of the ice taken on july 8. the difference you see is the amount of melting ice. wow. in fact, nearly every part of the massive island started to melt. something similar happened in 1889. scientists say they have yet to understand why. and take a look at this. it's not venice, italy, and the water isn't supposed to be there. this is south western china where the river is flooding. more than 40,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. floods from heavy rain sweeping all across china since friday.

it is actually cooler. after that storm went through montgomery county and frederick county. here's a look at the radar and lightning. a lot of it pushed on through. getting a bulk of showers and storms. here's a look at your weather camera right now. 88 degrees, mostly cloudy conditions. the wind has been picking up. dew point still pretty muggy out there. upper 80s in downtown. where it rained in frederick and gaithersburg, you cooled down. winchester 77. annapolis, still at 89 degrees. so, we have just a chance for strong storms, but that is diminishing. the main threat is the damaging wind gusts. wednesday, less humid, dryer air moving in. triple digit heat returns and talking very hot temperatures for thursday. so tonight, maybe another stray storm. again we are not completely out of the woods yet. but that threat is diminishing. overnight, we'll clear out for lots of sunshine on wednesday. get ready for a nice day on
