with their officers, the individual was wearing a t- shirt that said, guns don't kill people, i do. >> when police executed a search warrant, at prescott's crofton apartment building at 3:20 this morning, they found an arsenal of 25 weapons, including semi-automatic rifles, semi-automatic pistols, and at least one shotgun. they also found thousands of rounds of ammunition. >> we can't measure what was prevented here, but what was going on over the last 36 hours was a significant incident. >> among the seized assault rifles was an ar15, the same weapon used by the alleged aurora killer. now sources have told us that prescott does have a maryland state police issued gun collector's license, which made him exempt from the law, limiting him to one handgun purchase a month. lesli. >> sounds like this is just the beginning, andrea, thank you. our team coverage continues

with surae chinn. she is near the office where neil prescott used to work. surae, what do you know? >> reporter: lesli, we could have been standing here in front of this building telling a very different story. authorities say we'll never know exactly what police prevented here, but something obviously very serious and sinister. we are here at the pitney bose location, where preston wanted to shoot the place up and kill people. this is the place where he worked for at least three years. according to the search warrant, prescott was in the process of being fired as a subcontractor at the software and mail room supply business, which could have been the root of what allegedly drove him to make those threats. he lives in an apartment. people there didn't really know him nor did they know the ammunition and weapons stored right next to them. but where he grew up in maryland, neighbors there say the family was nice and that their son was quiet and was

really into computers. >> he was very quiet, to himself. he stayed in his room. his parents wanted him to go to clubs, but he decided not to. he decided just to be a computer geek. >> it is shocking and scary. this is a wonderful community. everyone is very friendly and we all meet at the dog park or have barbecues. it's very scary. you never know who your neighbors are, apparently. >> now we also tried talking with the man prescott was on the phone with who made the threats on that phone call earlier this week. he declined to talk with us. we also know that prescott is in an anne arundel hospital undergoing treatment. he has not been charged yet. we can only imagine what could have been unleashed here at his former place of work. back to you. >> don't want to think about it, surae, thank you. >> the man accused in the colorado movie theater shooting rampage was being treated by a

university of colorado psychiatrist where he was a grad student. that information came out today from james holmes' defense attorneys. they filed a motion seeking who leaked information about a package that holmes sent to the psychiatrist. that package reportedly contained a notebook with descriptions of the attack. 12 people were killed in the massacre last friday during a showing of the new batman movie. >> well, severe storms once again, a possibility around here in our area tonight. meteorologist, anny hong in for topper. not quite a severe weather alert, at least not yet. >> not yet. those are the operative words for tonight. we are looking at the potential for big storms. this time south of town and we do have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect right now until 10:00 tonight. here's a look at it. that includes south of town, culpeper and fredericksburg, not the district. until 10:00 tonight. this is where we see severe thunderstorms. you can see where we have some storms right now out to the

west into new market, harrisonburg. this could be heading out due east and into parts of the culpeper and fredericksburg area. if you look at the radar, you can see a line of storms are coming through impacting parts of central virginia. for the next few hours, things could get tricky around fredericksburg and culpeper. we'll keep you posted and talk about the storm chances for tomorrow as well. derek, anita, back to you. >> the fallout continues tonight over those child sex abuse allegations against the d.c. area's top olympic swim coach. >> sources tell bruce leshan that montgomery county police opened an investigation into the charges against rick curl by a woman who abused her more than a quarter century ago when she was just 13. bruce joins us now with more. >> yeah, anita. rick curl still not talking, these allegations are shocking to a lot of people. police are paying attention, even though these charges are so old. still no answer at the door of

rick curl's $1.5 million home in vienna. it is clear someone is home. and it is unclear if curl has gone off to help coach at the olympics in london, despite the sex abuse allegations against him. kelly corn says the swim coach had sex with her for years, starting when she was about 13 and he was 33. >> the guy should be in jail and not center stage at the olympics. >> sources say police are following up on the allegations. the sex abuse allegedly started in an office at the pool on the bethesda campus of georgetown prep. curl's swim club was leasing time at the pool. montgomery county police are now very careful in describing what they are doing about her allegations. >> we followed up what we deem

historic cases in the past with successful results. >> curl paid her money more than a decade ago, after they drafted a civil complaint, alleging sexual abuse. kuren signed a confidentiality agreement, but when she saw curl coaching at the olympic trials, she could no longer remain silent out of fear that there might be other victims. >> i can only speak for myself and i pray that the answer to that is no. >> we have to give her credit. this is a woman who is very courageous. >> that was montgomery county defense attorney and former prosecutor who says curen could expose herself to a civil lawsuit, demanding that she repay that $150,000. but he says if curl goes after curen, that could expose him to more trouble. u.s.a. swimming, which runs the olympic swimming program launched an investigation of

curl, but we have yet to hear back from them today on how that investigation is going. now these allegations against rick curl rocked the whole washington area swim community. peggy fox and her kids are swimmers, too. my kids are swimming as well and parents are talking about this. >> everyone is talking about it. i was on the phone today and i was surprised to learn from coaches and elite swimmers who were around in this area in the 1980s. there were rumors about curl and his young star swimmer. but nothing concrete or firsthand that could be reported. i have been talking to other parents and coaches on how to prevent this from happening again. parents need to do their part as well. the alleged sexual abuse between the young elite swimmer and her 33-year-old coach, rick curl, back in the 1980s is being called by some in the swimming community, one of the worst kept secrets in washington. the idea that people may have known something was going on between the two and didn't try

to stop it is upsetting to many parents. >> that makes me very sad. >> a mom of three young swimmers and says she talked to them about what happened to curen and feels it's important to have discussions with them about being safe. >> they need to understand what is inappropriate, but we have to, as parents, do our job well and talk to them about coming forward, even if they feel threatened or scared. >> psychiatrist helped set up u.s.a. swimming new guidelines to protect swimmers after a scandal. here are some signs parents need to be aware of. >> isolation of an athlete or a change in their mood or trouble sleeping or changes in their appetite or training too hard or kind of becoming disenchanted with a sport. any kind of change in behavior. >> there are new policies in place, such as rules against allowing coaches to be alone with swimmers. >> i think that we are the safest sport out there. you know, we are the model for

many, many of the other national governing bodies. they are looking at what we do. they are looking at how we do. they are looking at our legislation. >> riley eaton is the chair of potomac valley swimming, which oversees carl burke. also, i spoke to parents whose kids swim for can you curl. they felt their children have been safe and they are sticking with it, anita. they feel like they are doing a great job. >> it's one of the most competitive did well known. back to you guys. we know the identity of a man arrested for a stabbing at a post office in montgomery county. 67-year-old ray alfred young is charged with attempted murder. young stabbed another person yesterday. he was reportedly upset about the victim being allowed back into line after stepping aside to complete some business.

tomorrow, republican presidential candidate, mitt romney, visits israel in an effort to boost his foreign policy credentials. today, president obama got a jump start on his challenger by signing a u.s. israel security bill. that bill expands military and civilian cooperation with israel. the president also announced an additional $70 million in military aide. while in israel, romney will meet with benjamin netanyahu. they worked together at a consulting firm. the president has not visited israel since taking office. but if reelected, the president says israel will be one of his first foreign stops. anita. >> back here at home, it's official. there will be a special session of the maryland general assembly. governor martin o'malley announced that state lawmakers will meet next month to vote on a measure. the issue would go on the november ballot. and if approved by voters, it would clear the way for a new

casino at national harbor. the special session set for august 9. parts of the northeast are cleaning up after being slammed by severe weather last night. new york is one of the areas hardest hit with numerous down trees and power outages. a state of emergency and a curfew are in effect. the national weather service is trying to determine whether a tornado ripped through. the severe storms are blamed for the deaths of two people, one in new york city and another in pennsylvania. >> i'm taking heart with the idea that six months from now we'll be wishing for 97. >> yeah, that's a very good point. it is steamy out there. temperatures are still very high in the 90s. the atmosphere is unstable. so, we see some showers and storms coming this way. especially south of town. fredericksburg and culpeper. so here's a look at the severe thunderstorm watch. again, south of town does not include the district or the beltway. until 10:00 tonight, you can see the counties highlighted in

yellow. this includes culpeper and fredericksburg. here's a look at the hd. you can see the showers and storms out to the west for new market, approaching warrenton. we have some in harrissonburg. most storms are heading east and so i think culpeper and fredericksburg, you should prepare for the showers and storms to arrive in the next couple of hours. they are not severe. not at least right now. here's a look at the other storms. a lot of it passing central virginia. quite a few lightning strikes, especially into charlottesville and approaching richmond. around here, we can see some of it starting to surface in culpeper, looking like you are getting light rain and some good rain fall south of culpeper. so, we are under a risk, a slight risk for a severe thunderstorm for today according to the storm prediction center. this includes the d.c. area, points south, and southeast. and the main threats from the storms we do see today will be damaging wind gusts.

here's a live look at your michael and son weather camera. temperatures in the lower 90s. we have partly to mostly cloudy conditions. dew points in the lower 60s. still sticky out there. right now, temperatures 91 in downtown. 88 in leesburg and gaithersburg. low 80s for winchester. culpeper 84. fredericksburg, you're still hot at 94 degrees. it feels like almost 100 in downtown. farther south, 104. around the beltway, temperatures feel like in the mid 90s. all right, so we are expecting the muggy conditions with more thunderstorms. storms are likely tonight. especially south of town. damaging wind gusts the main concern. maybe some large hail. saturday afternoon thunderstorms are possible. then on sunday, only a stray storm is possible. here's a look at your future cast. you can see tonight, most of the activity will be south and east of town. but again, those storms could produce some good wind gusts, maybe 50, 60 miles per hour. at 10:00, things are much

quieter. saturday afternoon and saturday evening, we also have a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. so for tonight, watch out for those storms. our next three days, our 9 weather alert code for tomorrow, yellow, because the chance for unsettled weather. high 93. i don't expect them to be severe. sunday low 90s. monday in the upper 80s and still a chance for some showers and storms. your next seven days, each day we have a chance for some showers and storms. temperature wise we'll be in the upper 80s by monday. tuesday 89 degrees and wednesday, thursday, into the low and mid 90s. so we haven't declared today a severe weather alert day yesterday. howard and i were talking about it. we think it's border line. we'll say big storms are possible. we'll let you know if we decide to upgrade that to a severe weather alert day. keep your eyes to the sky and keep safe. are they suffering enough? the question on the minds of many as the ncaa slam penn state with sanctions this week

in the aftermath of the jerry sandusky sex abuse scandal. the host of face the nation, bob shaefer, is with us. his guest will be rodney erickson. you asked about the lawsuits the university is about to face from the victims. here's is what he said. >> we hope to settle as many of these cases as quickly as possible. we don't want to, if at all possible, drag victims through another round of court cases and litigation. >> you get the sense he doesn't want to drag his university through more rounds of litigation. but where do you think penn state goes from here? >> well, they are really, dr. erickson is making a sincere effort to get this whole thing, get the ship up righted and get it sailing forward and to get this behind them.

but this is extremely complicated and i got to tell you, while a lot of people around the country say that this punishment, these sanctions were not strong enough. a lot of people advocated to stop playing football. some people at penn state, even on their board of trustees believe that the sanctions were too tough. so dr. erickson has, you know, he has his work cut out for him. this is going to require not just changes in how the football team acts and how they conduct their business, but kind of a change in culture here. this whole idea of joe paterno seen by so many as an icon. i mean, he was the brand. but was he really in charge? did he stay too long? these are the kinds of things that they are dealing with there and you know, dr.

heartbroken and angry after breaking up with actress, kristen stewart, his twilight costar. people magazine confirms the 26- year-old hollywood heartthrob has moved out after living together with stewart for three years. earlier this week, the actress publicly apologized for an affair with director of snow white and the huntsman. we got a chance to see a rare chance to see ashley, some model planes at the bull run park in chantilly. these planes are modeled after some of the most famous planes to fly in wartime and they are owned by two local military officer who have a passion for aviation history. they have no place to fly their planes, so they are forced to use football and baseball fields, which is against county rules. >> we are currently working with the county to get a portion of the lorton landfill, as you remember, the state of virginia has taken that over, in particular, the counties

all eyes are on london for the official start of the summer olympic games. big bells banged. >> and all the pubs, of course, across the british capital are preparing for the big celebration. the latest on the festivities from the olympic park. >> reporter: the four hour show, lesli, includes james bond and a beetle and is the master mind. in the pageantry for these summer games is far from over. the olympic torch ended its 8,000 mile journey at london's tower bridge on opening day. queen elizabeth held a reception in buckingham palace. chatted with prince william and his wife, kate. the first lady is leading the

u.s. olympic delegation. about a thousand children joined her for some games and exercise at the u.s. ambassador's residence. they played soccer, tennis, and tug of war. there were a few first day cliches as officials rang in the games. cab drivers went on strike and caused heavy traffic jams because they are not allowed to use the olympic express lanes. fans were turned away after purchasing bogus tickets. and a small group of protesters demonstrated against dow chemical. more than 60,000 spectators are filing into the olympic stadium for the $42 million opening ceremony. but for those who couldn't get a ticket, the pub is the place to watch. in central london, british flags hang over many of the pubs. michael allen came after work to grab a pint and watch the opening ceremonies across town. >> we probably spend most of our time in a pub on friday

anyway. it's coincidental that the olympics are on. it's a good mix of faith. >> 302 events will take place in 26 sports over the next two weeks. so this british bash won't be over any time soon. and it's not just big-name athletes, but also big-name celebrity, including brad pitt and angelina jolie. there was a report earlier today that a runner from sudan tried to seek asylum, but the embassy said it was not true. >> it was 59 years ago today that the koreaen war officially came to an end. white veterans often call it the forgotten war, today the nation remembered. and delia was there. >> when communist north korea invaded south korea, america stepped in, but great cost to our nation. the koreaen war lasted three years, more than 54,000 american lives were lost,

caught on tape, a shooting at a convenience store, but check it out. in this case, it was the good guy pulling the trigger. surveillance video shows two masked men storming into a 7- eleven. one pulls a gun on the clerk and the customer. the other one is over the counter looking for the cash. little did they know, standing in one of the aisles, the security guard, vasquez pulls out his gun and confronts one of the robbers. the robber failed to obey his command. he shoots the dude in the leg. he missed, but it was enough to scare the robbers away. >> never happen. never. >> were you there? >> he is glad he didn't get hurt and didn't have to hurt anybody. fortunately, nobody hurt. the armed robber is still out

there. >> a police officer in florida was fired after he allegedly picked a prostitute in his patrol car. yeah, investigators say they have the evidence to prove it. >> melbourne police have multiple videos that prostitutes getting in and out of officer jose's cruiser. you see, while officer's dash camera was recording where he was going, detectives were in an unmarked car and they were recording, too. in one video, a woman gets out of the passenger door. the officer gets out of the driver side door. he has no shirt on. and he goes ahead and puts his uniform back on. at least four prostitutes claimed to have sex with officer otero while he was on the job. not only has he been terminated, he is now facing some charges. >> caught on tape as well, a poaching like nothing you've ever seen. this happened at a pet store in long island, new york. two guys come in. one distracts the clerk, but look at this fella. yeah, i'm putting it in my

there is good news in tonight's restaurant report. if you live in virginia, you're in the clear. the bad news, roaches at a popular d.c. pizza joint and two places caught operating with no hot water. investigative reporter. >> violations close restaurants and shocked

customers. >> customers sitting at the window seat at h street northwest pizza got close enough to see the citation and for us, to see their reaction. >> i hear their violations. >> we have roaches in the establishment. they are creative. >> coming here for a couple weeks now. >> i haven't seen any roaches. >> inspectors sited eight violations, including live roaches. no hand washing sign, and workers not wearing hair restraints. even if it's a grocery store or a gas station, like this extra in upper marlboro, inspectors are looking for food dangers. they shut the deli inside this gas station because they found them operating without any hot water that would allow them to wash their hands or their utensils. >> the manager blames a storm related malfunction. inspectors found no hot water at the lounge on 14th street
