the democratic national convention in north carolina in september. mr. clinton will formally nominate president obama and make the case that mr. obama has the best economic vision for the country. the presidential election is less than one hundred days away. nine single candidate super packs have spent 1$125 million. super pacts are allowed to spend unlimited sums. restore our future spent $60 million. two president obama packs spent 6 million. 11 to pro-president obama. james holmes, the suspected gunman is due back in court today. prosecutors are expected to read the more than 100 charges against the former doctoral student. holmes is accused of killing 12 people and boobie trapping his

apartment. >> reporter: james holmes could face first-degree murder charges for each of the 12 people who were killed inside the theater. but a former prosecutor says holmes won't face an additional homicide charge after one of the wounded victims suffered a miscarriage. the family of ashley moses says she lost her unborn child over the weekend, another deep loss to the family after moser's 6-year-old daughter was killed in the attack. >> she came to one time and screamed where's my baby? i loved her for two years. i helped raise veronica for two years. and now they're gone. >> when holmes appeared in court last week, he appeared drowsy fuelling speculation that his defense may try to plead insanity. >> this is going to be a case where the focus is going to be on his mental state. his mental state during this process and his mental state at

the time that he committed these acts and the time leading up to the commission of the act. >> reporter: holmes was being treated by a psychiatrist at the university of colorado, denver, where he was a student. dr. lynn fenton was the recipient of a package sent by holmes to the school. holmes' attorney say the discovery of the letter should have never been made public because they quote contain communications from mr. holmes to dr. fenton that mr. holmes asserts are privileged. >> this morning, there are some questions about holmes' psychiatrist. dr. lynn fenton was by the board. some of the shooting victims remain hospitalized this morning. back overseas and what may be the decisive battle in the syria's civil war.

heavy fighting is reported there this morning. government forces are pounding the city. a u.n. official says 200,000 people have fled aleppo. >> reporter: demolished tanks and rubble littered the streets of aleppo on sunday after troops pounded areas held by rebel forces. the president's troops say they have recaptured parts of the country's largest city. u.s. defense secretary said asad's latest attack proves they lack the legitimacy to rule. >> i think it ultimately will be a nail in asad's coffin. >> asad's regime struggling to maintain power over the last two weeks now. but on sunday, government forces declared victory in damascus and

in northern india, power is slowly being restored after a massive sunday blackout. a million people were left without electricity. the blackout affected india's capit capital, new deli. investors look for signs of hope from the fed. ashley, good morning. >> i don't know, fred. good morning. investors are holding on hope that the european central bank takes action to guard against the continent's debt crisis. that led to a positive day in overseas trading. in hong kong, adding nearly one percent. wall street is hoping for big things on the federal reserve. most economists believe this will boost the fragile economy. a strong finish on friday could stock a critical benchmark for the week.

the dow moved passed the 13,000 mark. the nasdaq gained 32. federal air safety regulators have opened up an investigation on the 737 dreamliner. one of the jets had an engine fire. it was under going pre-flight testing. it finally delivered one of the jets last year after several years of delays. and this might be the summer to splurge on lobster. warm temperatures have led to one of the strongest lobster harvest in years. but the abundance of lobsters has driven down prices to a 40-year low. not good news for the fishermen harvesting those lobsters, but pretty good news for those of us who like to eat them. that's what's for dinner. >> ashley, good to see you. thank you so much. coming up next, your monday morning weather.

bethesda. back with more traffic at 4:39. dc police are searching for answers after a second shooting along u street, which left several people injured. >> one of the victims is a producer with nbc news here in washington. the other works for the washington post. both women. matt jablow has more on the shootings and the victims. >> reporter: having witnessed the rebirth of the historic u street corridor, dc native john sheffield is extremely troubled to hear two women were shot last night near 12th and u. both completely innocent victims. >> they are unrelated females, they weren't together, they are not friends, they didn't know each other. so it looks as though the target was somewhere else and this was pretty random. >> last night's shooting was the second shooting in the past week

alone here on u street. right around 2:30 last saturday morning. after two groups of men opened fire during an argument. police have arrested three men in connection with that shooting. all of this is very troubling. >> people we spoke with today on u street said the recent violence is not only upsetting, but extremely frightening. >> anybody who gets shot, it is frightening. >> none of the four victims were seriously injured. if you have any information about the shooting you are asked to call crime solvers. another shooting, this one in virginia. police are searching for the killer of an arlington business owner from herndon. the victim's name has not been confirmed by police but the family of 52-year-old tommy wong tells us he was killed at
