roane who is back tomorrow. and i'm mike haiduk. weatherwise a nice start to the day and week for that matter. temperatures are heating up toward the end of the week and the weekend. here it goes this monday morning. visibility good, still kind of muggy out there. dewpoints up. but we are in the 70s now in town. some areas are falling into the 60s, especially as you get farther north and west of dc. topping out at 88, 89. there could be a stray shower or storm this afternoon. the best chance of that will be in the mountains out to the west. looking at satellite and radar this morning. all is quiet. one little shower here in the right area. looking off to the east much warmer by the bay. annapolis 7 degrees. 68 in bowie and prince frederick

70 degrees sunshine today stray showers and thunderstorms member a 20% chance look at the highs mainly in the mid to the upper 80s. monika samtani, happy tuesday. >> reporter: if you are planning to head around town, no problems to report on the beltway. things are looking great on i- 95 in baltimore. let's start off with the other side of town and take a live look at the beltway and 270 no problems to report. here's 35 in landmark, no issues here up to the 14th street bridge. traffic is moving well. if you are planning to head over to the other side of town and toward college park no issues to report. on the beltway through silver spring. things look good on 66 except right before route 15 where we are getting word of an accident where a car went off the road. you may find a bit of slow traffic there. beyond that centerville over to vienna you are doing fine.

no problems in springfield. northbound side where traffic is moving well to 35. police are searching for a killer of an arlington business owner. >> 52-year-old tommy wong was killed in an armed robbery at capital jewelers last friday afternoon. good morning. >> reporter: good morning jessica, mike. this is certainly shaking this community. here in columbia pike, many friends and neighbors have placed flowers in memory of this victim, the quiet, hardworking business owner who they say ran the shop for five years. family members tell us tommy wong worked late friday night but was usually home by 10:30. however when he didn't get home in time they instantly called police. investigators will not release many details, but say wong was a victim of an armed robbery that

occurred around 4:00 that afternoon. >> when you got in the door, it went on the other side and that was for insurance reasons. >> what do you make of anything else and. >> you know, it is another loss of a good person. >> and take a very close look at this picture. these are a series of surveillance pictures of the suspect caught just before the murder. he is described police say as a black man in his mid-50s, about 5'7" with a medium build. he was wearing a neon yellow traffic vest. family members believe that is perhaps why wong put -- left dlet his guard down and allowed this man inside. you heard from that neighbor and friend wong had a lot of security measures here in place because of a previous robbery

that occurred prior to his ownership and so we had several measures in place to protect his business. however unfortunately, this gentleman was able to get inside and the suspect was able to kill the victim. coming up at 5:30, hear from his daughter, who has a very tearful description of how she heard about her father's death. back to you jessica, mike. that is a sad story. thanks delia. police are searching for answers after a machine's body was found in the potomac river. a boater discovered the body yesterday morning and authorities say there are no signs of obvious trauma. the body was taken to baltimore for an autopsy. police are asking for your help. they are trying to find a suspect in a sexual assault case. police say a woman was jogging on the capital kress accident scent trail when -- crescent trail when she was attacked last week. after the assault the suspect

ran toward fletcher's boathouse. he is a blag man, approximately 180 to 200 pounds. muscular build, dreadlocks three to four inches long and a light, scruffy beard. he was last seen wearing a whiteshire, possibly a tank top or a shirt with cut off sleeves, i don't think jersey type black shorts. if you have any information call u.s. park police with this or any other incident on the capital crescent trail. i am watching your money. it would be nice to have a couple more big rallies like the ones last week. the dow starts today back above 1000 for the first time since may. most economists believe the today will announce new steps wednesday to buffe the economy. this week also brings reports on home prices, auto sales, consumer confidence and the biggie, the july unemployment report due out on friday.

last week stocks rallied on hopes the european central bank will take steps to ensure the euro remains intact. the dow added 188 points friday, the nasdaq was better by 65 and the s & p 500 was up by 26 points. apple versus samsung. the legal battle of the smartphone gets underway today inside a federal courtroom in san jose, california. at issue is when samsung stole apple patents had when it came out with its line of mobile devices. this case is crucial because it could decide who wins the smartphone war. local power company b gand a, bgand e, wants to increase rates in maryland. a 7.9% in residential gas distribution. this means the average electric bill will increase $7.22 per month.

here, very quiet out there this morning. temperatures have fallen in the suburb in the mid-60s in spots. still around 75 here in dc. not a bad day at all, considering how hot it has been this month. noon time temperatures will top out in the upper 80s. a slim chance for a stray shower or thunderstorm. full 7-day forecast coming up in about five minutes. right now we check in with monika samtani. >> reporter: the northbound side of i 395 nice and light here. duke street headed up to the 1st street bridge same story to the roosevelt bridge. more on traffic coming up in my next report. back to you. here's a look at other things making news now. james holmes the man accused in the colorado theater shooting will be arraigned and officially charged today. during the hearing, prosecutors are also expected to present new evidence which was discovered last week. we are learning new details about this case.

the aurora police chief says the theater normally hires off-duty police to work on weekends, but there were no security officers on hand the night of the shooting. the company which runs the theater is not commenting. s. a 1-year-old cent state university student will be arraigned today for posting a twitter message saying he planned to shoot up the campus. william coburn is charged. he was arrested yesterday in brunswick, ohio. the new superman ride at california six flags discovery kingdom has a few kinks to work out. passengers got to the top of the right yesterday afternoon and got stuck in the air when the ride stopped. crews had to bring in a crane to get the riders down. the ride had only been open a month. campaign 2012 coming up. mitt romney will stop in poland

good morning everybody. things are looking great on the beltway. i can't talk about any delays right now. no big complaints, i'm happy to say. if you are planning to head in on the gw parkway 66 the dulles toll road, everything here is running smoothly into the downtown area. we'll look at the american allegiance bridge on the west side of town, this is a good indication between 270 and 66 and even down to 95 in springfield running well right now. back over to our maps, no issues on the northbound side of i-95. a little slow now approaching woodbridge. further north here traffic moving well into springfield on to 395. all lanes are open up to the 14th street bridge. back with more traffic coming up in a few minutes. the family of an arlington business owner is searching for answers after the body of 52-year-old tommy wong was found inside his julie store --

jewelry store last friday. delia joins us live from outside capital jewelers along columbia pike in arlington. >> reporter: incredibly sad story. i feel like we have been here before. unfortunately, northeast sometime ago it was another shop owner well loved in the community and northeast washington and she was killed. the same kind of manner. this is unimaginable for a lot of folks in this community. they say this was a hardworking man, quiet, kept to himself. he has owned this business in the 3200 block for five years now. family members tell us he took several precautions to keep himself safe inside the store, even buzzing people in individually before they entered the store. however, the system that he had in place unfortunately failed to keep him safe against an armed

intruder. wong's daughter told us he took those precautions because the previous owner had been robbed. she last spoke to her father at 1:00 friday afternoon. he said everything was okay, but police tell us three hours later an armed robber walked into the store and took that shop owner's life. >> my dad had been come home from work yet so we called several times and we knew something was wrong. we drove up to the store and it had looked like he was in the middle of packing up the store to go home. because his car was still there and lights were still on. so we called the police. they knocked down the door and they wouldn't let us go inside and see him. and they told me they came out and told me that he had passed. >> reporter: tough for that family. shocking news when they arrived here at the shop. probably feeling that something could have been wrong, that is

why they traveled from their home in herndon all the way here to arlington to check on their dad. he is survived by his wife, two children, and say son. and that daughter, vivian, who spoke to us so bravely. take a close look at this picture. police are looking for this suspect, described as a black man in his 50s, about 5'7" with a neon yellow traffic vest on at the time. police believe that is how he got into the store, perhaps family members say wong let his guard down because this machine had a traffic vest, assuming he was some kind of contract worker in the area. anyone with information should call arlington county police immediately. dc police are searching for suspects after two women were shot near u street this weekend. the shooting saturday morning around 1:00 a.m. near the intersection of 12th and u. one

near nine with a stray shower or storm before the day is out. this morning the warm stuff in town by the bay in the upper 70s at the naval academy. out west look how nice and pleasant in winchester. cumberland is 6. in washington this morning we are looking outside about 20 minutes or so before the sunrise here at tyson's corner. traffic is moving pretty well out there at the moment. 76 degrees although a muggy 76 with humidity at 82% and no wind to speak of at reagan national. temperatures going to be hottest once again in the central part of the country but not across missouri and kansas the dome of high pressure and heat has drifted into oklahoma. they will be 108 today. the next few days they will be in the 108 to 110 range in oklahoma city. some areas could be 112 or hotter.
