manassas, 67 in hagerstown. that helps this afternoon. another very warm, muggy day. high temperature 88 in town, some spots after the storms fire early enough, let's check in with monika samtani. >> reporter: 600 center street south of route 606 in herndon crews are dealing with a very serious accident. we want to avoid that area of herndon, if you can. you see all these triangles behind me, it is all overnight construction. all those areas should be cleared up. you see a bit of yellow here. there was an accident on the outer loop sitting on the shoulder but still attracting a little bit of attention. let's go live outside right now into college park and you are looking fine here, this is the outer loop past route 1 heading into the interchange. let's go back over to our maps

wrong. but we, this morning, have uncovered court documents that could offer some explanation at the very least. according to the records that we have uncovered, 31-year-old cynthia heyward filed for divorce in 2007, but close to go to counseling -- chose to go to counseling instead. now she and her two-year-old daughter are dead, and her 12-year-old is recovering from a slashed neck. the husband frank used guns on them and then set a fire. >> there was nothing else we could have done. we were very fortunate to save frank heyward iii. >> we will learn more as the

days continue and the investigation continues in calvert county. a great aunt, i should tell you, who was living in the home managed to escape unharmed. she is the one who called police and had them respond to the home. coming up at 5:30, hear from a man who recently exchanged e-mails with the suspect about his problems at home. she took an arrow to the head but a woman is expected to survive. someone was practicing archery with a cross bow when one of the arrows ricochet and hit this woman in the head. a bill that would ban abortions in the district after 20 weeks of pregnancy has failed to pass the house. 17 democrats crossed party lines to support it, however it required a two-thirds vote for passage. the measure is based on the disputed claim that fetuses can

team last night. it was a bad night for stephen strasburg. he gave up a season high six runs. two innings later it got worse. jimmy rollins, bryce harper can't get to it as it bounces off the wall. rollins with an inside the park homerun. despite trade rumors the phillies did keep cliff lee. the phillies shutout the nats 6-0. as for your redskins training camp update for the first time this year, mother nature interrupted redskins camp yesterday. before the thunder rolled in though, quarterback rg iii was able to get in plenty of work with his receivers. he showed off his strength and speed but continued to struggle when rolling out to the left and failing to get the ball out quick enough. afterwards mike shanahan addressed the issue.

but later decided not to divorce. the couple's home was up for sale, facing foreclosure. >> he said we are keeping it quiet. my wife and i are going through a little trouble. >> sad situation. terrible. absolutely horrible. >> to do that and take a two-year-old's life is completely ridiculous. makes no sense. >> good news in the situation. the 12-year-old boy is recovering from those severe wounds. his great aunt, his mother's great aunt who was also living in the home managed to escape completely unharmed. she is the one who frantically called police. the sheriff's department told us they recovered several handguns inside the house, they believe some of them could have been used in this attack. back to you. a tougher drunk driving law goes into effect today for dc

we are in the 70s in town, 60s just west of us. 76 by 8:00 in washington with a noon time temperature about 83, 84. winds out of the south today. this afternoon 86. by 4:00 forecast high of 88 and an 58:00 p.m. temperature. going back out to the nationals game tonight there is a chance for an early shower or storm. temperatures comfortable dropping into maybe the upper 70s by the end of the game. showers came out of the northern neck of southern maryland and the lightning and thunder is going away as this approaches salisbury but locally, heavier downpours here in the bay on the eastern shore toward cambridge. switch it to live doppler 9 hd. this may make it toward queens town area, across the bay,

south of route 606. it was a deadly overnight accident. avoid that area if you can. i'll be back with more traffic. we get our fair share of extreme weather around here, especially within the last year. but can we link it to climate change our global warning? >> an environment al group in virginia said it crunched the numbers to prove there is a link. >> extreme precipitation weather, like downpours and big storms, including snow from 2010 are happening more often. according to reports by environment virginia. >> in the past 60 or so years we are 30% more likely to see severe precipitation than we were at the beginning of that period. a storm that used to happen every 12 months on average now happens every nine months, on average. an organizer for the environment al group says such extreme

weather events are also getting bigger. >> the scientific consensus says global warning is contributing to the situation. >> you can link global warming to the increased frequency of extreme precipitation. in fact a federally funded study concluded the global temperature has increased over the past 50 years and that is due primarily to human induced emissions of gases. >> not all ex streek stream events are going to become more frequent. >> reporter: environment virginia hopes its study will encourage the beam administration to pass legislation to have stricter fuel efficiency standards for cars and reduce pollution for new power plants. >> the data for the virginia report only goes back 60 years

>> reporter: harrison runs one of the 700 agencies that relies on the capital area food bank for food. today she is one of the first people to shop inside its new afood district probation center. >> i literally see a vision where there is sufficient food for everybody. >> we were turning away food. >> reporter: lynn brantley, who founded the food bank in 1980, needed more space. >> their warehouse just more than doubled in size. >> this is our wonderful warehouse the community has built. it is 98,000 square feet of warehouse space. >> reporter: including massive refrigerated loading docks, solar pams, a state of the art teaching kitchen. and the best part is, it is all paid for. >> we are in this building with no debt. so all the money will go into food programs and food distribution. >> reporter: last year the food
