doesn't look transparent that you won't even stop and talk to us for five minutes. ma'am, you represent the united states government. our investigation wasn't the only thing that got congress riled up today. congressman jeff denham of california questioned that same gsa official about a conference that's taking place right now tonight in nashville. she couldn't answer his questions about that either like are gsa workers staying in suites at the op ryland hotel in nashville and is it true they've reserved space tonight on a showboat for a social. we have a camera there tonight and we're tracking that, too. >> you have to say what a waste of time to, have the congressional hearing and have someone here that can't answer any of the questions at the heart of the discrepancies. >> she did answer question. s about the conferences, but the hot topic today, the bonuses investigation, she said that's not my job. >> thank you.

a house committee grilled the deputy administrator of the tsa today about misconduct in its ranks. congressman mike rogers of alabama says the agency represents everything that is wrong with the federal government and john wolinski told the republican chair that inappropriate behavior won't be tolerated. >> if you have an off, 60,000 people, that's like a city. -- an organization of 60,000 people, you're always going to have crime. i'm not saying we're different than any other group of americans. i'm saying we're exactly like any other group of americans. we will hold them accountable when they do something wrong. >> in recent months we've heard everything from tsa agents being accused of stealing laptops to accepting bribes and drinking on duty. the u.s. postal service is hours from defaulting on a $5.5 billion bill. it would be the burst time the

agency defaults on a -- pus time the agency defaults on a payment -- first time the agency defaults on a payment to the u.s. treasury but it won't be the last. in the face of billions of dollars in cuts, the defense department is hoping congress can head off its plans for sequestration. if the mandatory cuts take effect, they could add up to hundreds of thousands of jobs in our area and more than a million nationwide. >> the problems are determining how to deal with our deficit, how to address it, what to cut, what revenue to raise, are so serious and there's so much difference that we can, in fact, go through even something as bad as sequestration rather than find the solution. >> the only question now is whether senate democrats will work with us and follow us to remove these two giant threats that face the american people and frankly, our economy. >> speaker boehner says the other big threat right now is

not extending tax cuts for small businesses. the man accused of threatening people at his soon to be former employer was formally charged today. >> reporter: i'm scott broom at the courthouse in prince george's county where neil prescott, the man who threatened a colorado style mass shooting in maryland will face only a misdemeanor telephone misuse charge. the prosecutor here is not happy about it. >> unfortunately maryland does not have a law that makes it expressly illegal for a person to communicate generalized threats over the telephone. i believe that when people like mr. prescott threaten violence, especially in this day in age, he ought to be facing a felony charge, not just misdemeanor charges. >> reporter: alsobrooks with her hands tied said prescott's guns were all legal and there will be no charges there. one consolation for prisoners, the charges will prevent prescott from getting his

arsenal of 25 guns back and if he's convicted, he'll lose his right to possess firearms in maryland into the future. scott broom, 9 news now. in herndon police are looking for the husband of a woman killed as a hit and run victim. the 32-year-old is a person interest of in the crash that killed his wife in the 600 block of center street in herndon. police say just of that crash the driver of a black toyota camry slammed into -- after that crash the driver of a black toyota camry slammed into the other car and ran off. >> reporter: was he ever in any trouble? >> not at all. he was always talking about his wife and family, always pick up pizza for them. he was so nice to his family i think. >> the three small children were inside their apartment.

a new poll in campaign 2012 puts president obama ahead of mitt romney in three key battleground states and as tara mergener reports, it's those battle ground states the candidates are focusing on this week. >> reporter: president obama brought his campaign message of middle class tax cuts to ohio. >> hello, ohio! >> reporter: the president came to mansfield on a day a new poll shows him six points ahead of mitt romney in the

battle ground state. the quinnipiac university cbs news, new york times poll shows the president has the same lead in florida. it also puts him 11 points ahead in pennsylvania. while the president is popular among those polled, many don't approve of the way he's handling the economy. >> it's going to be a referendum on the president's economic policies. >> reporter: the romney campaign is airing this new ad in ohio while the president is there criticizing his support of the auto industry bailout. >> i received a letter from general motors. they were suspending my credit line. we had 30 some employees out of work. >> reporter: and with so many americans out of work both republicans and democrats will be watching the july unemployment numbers when they're released friday. several roads in leesburg will be closed tomorrow for the president's visit to loudoun county high school. that event starts around 7:30, but closings begin at 2:30.

shuttle buses will be provided to and from the high school from how dow county fairgrounds. player -- loudoun county fairgrounds. maryland senator mike miller says the senate will convene next thursday at 11:30 a.m. and a bill to expand gambling will go before the committee. next friday the full senate should get the bill before sending it on to the house. still ahead 11 new speed cameras hit the streets of d.c. we'll talk about it. over the next four months, you have a choice to make.

not just between two political parties, or even two people. it's a choice between two very different plans for our country. governor romney's plan would cut taxes for the folks at the very top. roll back regulations on big banks. and he says that if we do, our economy will grow and everyone will benefit. but you know what? we tried that top down approach. it's what caused the mess in the first place. i believe the only way to create an economy built to last is to strengthen the middle class. asking the wealthy to pay a little more so we can pay down our debt in a balanced way. so that we can afford to invest in education, manufacturing, and home-grown american energy for good middle class jobs.

folks have been slowing down along south dakota avenue heading into d.c. after a new camera went up this week, but listen. it's not a speed camera. d.c. police tell us that camera just off route 50 is actually what they call a data collection cam tracking traffic flow. even though that's not a speed camera there are 11 new ones going active in d.c. today. bruce johnson reports local aaa and some drivers are complaining d.c. government is already counting on additional revenue from those cameras. >> reporter: you better look early if you're traveling south in the 4300 block on texas avenue in southeast. a new speed camera is hidden inside that white chevy van. 5 blocks away to the north, that marked police cruiser has a camera, too. 11 new automated speed

enforcement machines are being added to the city streets beginning today. >> this is overkill. this is being pushed to the n- th degree for the sole purpose of generating additional revenue. >> reporter: how many tickets have you got? >> two, speeding. >> reporter: outside the dmv today we got reaction from people already hit with the $125 fine that comes with a speeding camera citation. >> it's ridiculous. it's too high. why can't they charge us maybe $40 or something? >> reporter: every quadrant of the city is getting the new speed cameras. locations include the 200 block of 17th street northeast and the 1400 block of new york avenue northeast. police say the new cameras are going up at sites with the highest number of crashes and injuries, calls for police service and high speed volume. >> the mayor stated it. said that he wants to increase -- he said that he wants to increase the budget by $30 million from automated

enforcement tickets. >> reporter: also included in the new speed camera locations 3700 block of massachusetts avenue in southeast and the 400 block of riggs road in northeast. tommy wells doesn't have a problem with the additional cameras but with the hefty fines. he's looking into perhaps reducing the fees. bruce johnson from northwest washington, 9 news now. >> d.c. speed cameras took in more than $60 million last year. about $45 million had already been collected this fiscal year. today marks five years since a deadly bridge collapse in minnesota. 13 people died, hundreds more injured when the interstate 35 bridge fell into the mississippi river. the disaster prompted bridge inspections across the country. after a department of transportation report found the bridge had been found structurally deficient two years earlier. president obama said the

and got to where coordinator jim haslett said he had one of the most impressive preseasons up to that point, but in the week three game of preseason jenkins tore his acl and sat out his rookie year. he is now back. he stayed around the park trying to learn as much as he can and pressing. he says he's ready to go. >> it was kind of hard. you can't really leave being a rookie. you got to stay around. i got hurt early, so had to fit in around here, still had to learn a lot, went to meetings and rehab. still have to stay strong. >> reporter: some more positive injury news. the results of jammal brown's mri shows no serious injury to his hip. the right tackle has been told to rest and rehab. as part of a rookie hazing ritual, they have to get up and give skits to the rest of the team.
