yesterday afternoon officers received a call from a home in the 6200 block of kenilworth avenue. they arrived to find the body of a man in his 40s who had been shot several times. detectives are not releasing any other details about this case. a takoma park man is facing charges ranging from prostitution to human trafficking. 27-year-old freddy leguisamon is accused of picking up women in prince george's county and dropping them off to work as hookers in annapolis. some of the women are allegedly in the country illegally and working as prostitutes to pay off debts. arlington county police say a suspicious death case has turned into the county's latest homicided. the bodies of 59-year-old keith spriggs and 31-year-old carl moten were found in an apartment. these are the third and fourth murders in the county in less than a month after nearly two and a half years with no

murders reported. d.c.'s police scandal is growing. the high speed ride given to actor charlie sheen has resulted in a $12 million lawsuit against the city. the police officer who was demoted and transferred has filed a whistle blower lawsuit against d.c. hilton burton says he was punished for testifying to the d.c. council that high speed escorted for celebrities were a common practice. chief cathy lanier says she disagrees. she says the sheen escort broke the department protocol. >> lost my rank, lost my pay, been pretty much exiled off the police department. here i stand. >> chief ran near would not -- lanier would not comment right now but is on record saying burton's demotion was about his job performance, not his testimony on the charlie seen escort case. maryland lawmakers will begin meeting for a special session to discuss gambling in the state. the senate convenes today in

annapolis. the house of delegates will meet on the issue tomorrow. maryland currently allows slot machine gambling at five locations. lawmakers will consider expanding it to include table games such as blackjack and a new casino site in prince george's county at national harbor. law makers may also consider the possibility of internet gambling in the free state. today members of the group prince georgians against gaming at national harbor are scheduled to hold a rally outside the state house. organizers want to meet with lawmakers. they don't believe a new casino will have any benefit for county residents, just for big business. maryland lawmakers will also have another issue to discuss. a bill is scheduled to be introduced to address the state's controversial court ruling which says pit bulls are inherently dangerous. the measure would remove landlord liability for dog bites. it would place all liability for bites by any type of dog on the dog's owner. the f.b.i. says they still have no clear

motive for the deadly shootings at the sikh temple in wisconsin on sunday, but investigators did release some new information on the shooter. they say wade michael page killed himself. a police bullet that hit him in the stomach stopped him in his tracks but the f.b.i. said he ended his own life with a gunshot to the head. she also revealed page's ex- girlfriend was arrested on a weapons violation the same day on sunday but that was not connected to the temple shootings. last night in northwest d.c., members of the sikh community were joined by people of other religions in a ceremony to honor and remember the victims. supporters signed a giant banner to stand up against hate in the united states. mourners also held up signs of the victims as well. mourners in silver spring lit hundreds of candles to honor the dead in that shooting. they held a ceremony to pay tribute to the lost lives as well. in campaign 2012, the obama and romney campaigns are battling each other over health

district tax collectors have filed a lien now against gene clark harris' company, the pr executive last month that compleeded guilty to shadow -- pleaded guilty to shadow campaigning. our time is 4:36. more fallout from the militant attack in egypt. egyptian president mohammad morrissey has hired the head of the intelligence agency. the chief said his agency knew about a warning from israel that an attack was imminent. however, he didn't believe it would happen during the holly month of ram dan. gunman killed 16 soldiers, stole armored vehicles and drove into israel to attempt an attack there. the united states is now cleaning the remains of agent orange from vietnam. this comes 50 years after the first american planes sprayed that chemical into the

maryland be designated disaster areas. and that would provide federal drought aid. the request includes the entire eastern shore in anne arundel, charles, calvert and prince george's counties. farmers in those areas have lost up to 54% of their crops. every year thousands of children suffer severe heart failure and need heart transplants. >> as randall pinkston reports, a new study shows a device can help young patients who are waiting for a new heart. >> reporter: as a baby this active 4-year-old baby, heard failure had her fighting for her life. >> they said she won't make it for a heart transplant. >> reporter: the wait for a new heart could be months so doctors at texas children's office gave her a device called the berlin heart. it helped pump blood through her body keeping her alive till a heart became available. now a new study shows the device provides a life saving

option for babies and small children with serious heart failure. >> in those patients that are enrolled in the study, more than 90% of them survived to receive a heart transplant and recover. >> reporter: several thousand children develop serious heart failure in the u.s. every year. right now there aren't many options for those waiting for a transplant. researchers say some patients recovered enough that their heart pumped blood on its own after they stopped using the device. >> that of course is the very best scenario. >> reporter: researchers caution some children can suffer serious side effects, including major bleeding, infection, and stroke. leonna didn't have any problems. she used the berlin heart for five months before she finally got a new heart three years ago. >> she loves outdoors a lot and she does mostly everything that any other kid can do. >> reporter: her mom is grateful the berlin heart gave her daughter a chance to live. in new york, randall pinkston,

cbs news. >> wow. the food and drug administration approved the berlin heart for children late last year. a food additive which could be linked to alzheimer's is in things we eat every day. the ingredient is called diaitil in all kinds of food from margin to beer to baked goods, even pet food. researchers at the university of minnesota have conducted tests which shows high exposure to the chemical could put people at greater risk of alzheimer's. a vaccine to prevent ataturk may help people -- prevent disturb disturb may help people with type 2 diabetes. larger studies are now under way. doctors are hoping they can eventually figure out how to use the treatment to reverse type 1 diabetes. a new study finds gum disease is four times more common in people who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. researchers in india say the type of gum disease is also

ii. >> it has meaning doing something about people. >> reporter: the exhibit he's doing for free began in part as a loving tribute to his father, a world war ii veteran who's buried at arlington. >> it just seemed like the right thing to do. >> reporter: according to chris, the project has far surpassed even his own expectations largely because of 56-year-old girl -- of a 6-year- old girl. soon after he started the project, that 6-year-old was with her parents here at arlington watching him paint. >> i finally turned to her and said, do you want to draw. >> reporter: he said the girl seemed a little bored so he offered her some paper and a pencil. >> she drew for half an hour. >> reporter: when she was finished, he taped one of her pictures on what was then an empty wall next to his work station and soon thereafter went on vacation for a week. >> i left some material here and added a note, feel free to add to the wall. >> reporter: when he got back, that once empty wall was literally covered with all kinds of pictures and messages to u.s. troops past and friend,
