front of the restaurant on wilson boulevard. ken is live for us. obviously some sort of fight went down when this guy saw somebody trying to take their car. >> that is exactly what happened, derek. of course this took place on the back lot of the parking lot here. we'll get to some video to show you what it looked like on out here that the stabbing victim was looking out of the nearby office window when he noticed a man breaking into his car. the man rushed outside to confront the burglar. that's when they began fighting. at some point they pulled out a knife. he stabbed the man repeatedly in the hands and shoulders all over his arms. the victim still standing chased them through the restaurant parking lot.

that victim eventually did collapse rushed to the hospital where he has been listed in stable condition. and now the suspect, we're being told that he got away in a white work van that he may have stolen from the area. that's arlington police chief. doug scott speaking about the dangers. >> and in this case obviously not, you know, he confronted somebody who was armed and we did not know that at the time what we would advise the publicked to do when they see a crime is call us obviously and not confront a suspect if possible. t >> reporter: and again that suspect is still on the loose right now. that's a description for them. a hispanic man, someone from 28 to 32 years old. about five feet nine inches tall. he was last seen wearing ripped clothing. we believe that happened somewhere during the scuffle. so if you know anything about this, police are asking that you give him a call. they are are talking about the recent spike it had crime that

we have seen on out here. seeing all the violent crimes here in arlington county are not related, but they are looking for this man that if you know anything about this to give arlington police a call. for now we're live, ken ken, 9news now. >> and this just in, police have made an arrest in connection with the accidental shooting death of a 4-year-old boy in woodbridge. the victim's stepfather darnell matthews is charged with cruelty and injury to children. he left a loaded handgun last month and a 4-year-old got ad hold of that weapon shooting himself. tonight a man is charged with a crime nothing short, but disgusting. >> accused of getting meat from a dumpster, repackaging it to sell in his discount store. surae chinn talked to the accused store owner. >> rodney sparks has owned the

shot for about a year. and dumped food line and safe way and resold the bad meat, but spark said none of that is true. >> i eat the food i sell. >> reporter: he was arrested, charged for selling bad meat. an inspector came to your store and they said that the meat was freezer burn, unhelpful. >> i would say they didn't know what they were doing. >> reporter: he said the inspectors were the ones that mishandled their meat. >> i sell milk. it is current. it's fresh. i don't hide any dates from anybody and i stand behind it. >> reporter: inside they would throw away because the boxes were damaged or the sell by date is about to expire. the breakfast sausage has a june 2012 sell by date. >> once it's frozen, there is no expiration date on it. >> reporter: that's true. the food and drug

administration has no regulation with the exception of infant formula. i was trying to help out the people that needed the help. >> to see people like me that are not working and they have families around here. >> what about the meat? >> i have never had any issues with the meat. >> are you okay with that? >> yeah. >> reporter: grocery employees saw them removing food from the dumpster. as for that accusation, they said that they were dumpster diving, but only for dozens of rescue cats they take care of at their monroe maryland home. >> you have never gone dumpster diving? >> no. >> reporter: he faces ten counts for selling bad meat. the next court appearance is in had september. in front royal, surae chinn, 9news now. >> the department of agriculture and consumer services could not comment on this case as they said that the sell by or used by dates are voluntary.

again with the exception of dairy and infant formula. a very scary day for some employees at d. c.'s department of human services. four workers had to go to the hospital after being hit by an suv driven by one of their can colleagues. this accident happened just off new york avenue northeast. kristin fisher with more from the scene. the driver of this car also an employee backed into a picnic table while four of his colleagues were sitting on it. three of them rushed to the hospital. the other was taken to the hospital. >> and the driver, i understand that they went to the hospital. but i don't know about any

injuries. >> so what happened? the police department, they are still investigating. two words still being treated, but all are expected to make a full recovery. in washington, kristin fisher, 9news now. >> the manassas woman best known as the blonde bandit was sentenced today to 11 years in prison. pleading guilty to committing a string of bank robberies and one attempted. she also confessed to a carjacking. blaming her crime spree on a heroin addiction and was also a member of the gang. prince george's could bety police just released this video. a well-dressed bandit linked to a whole string. the most recent took place just this past tuesday afternoon at a wells fargo on silver hill road. this video is from monday. in all, police believe that the same guy is responsible for a

total of five bank robberies. the only thing about this is prince george's county police that would love to hear from you is this number. 1-866-411-8447. maryland's legislature was called into an unusual special session today to try to break the political paralysis over gambling in the state. scott broom is live in annapolis where lawmakers have taken the first step towards approving a bill that could put a big vegas style on the casino, just a mile over the d.c. line, scott? >> reporter: that's right. it this is all about gambling ats national harbor it in prince george's county and a doover for maryland voters on the contentious issue which has been a problem for going on a decade. at national harbor, developers and county executives want a

vegas-style casino. an expansion that requires an act of the legislature and an approval of the voters. today, the senate, they went into session in an attempt to settle the issue once and for all. the senate president mike miller, the state's most powerful gambling supporter is playing it cool. >> if this bill passes, what you're seeing in the o obama romney ads are nothing compared to what you'll be seeing in prince george's county because of the people here that don't want the bill pass pause they would like the money to continue to flow to west virginia and we need to cut money. thank you very much. >> reporter: the forces that -- the forces that play are powerful. >> this is our community.

foreigns for george zimmerman are going to seek a stay on your ground hearing. the neighborhood watch volunteer said that he did shoot the 17-year-old back in february in self-defense. florida's stand your ground law allows you to do that instead of retreating if they believe that their lives are in danger. as of now, zimmerman is free on $1 million bond.

well, we've got a disturbing story out of delaware for you tonight. a prominent georgetown pediatrician and his wife are now accused of water boarding their daughter. >> it's hard to get your brainaround that. the 121-year-old girl said that -- the 11-year-old said that it happened as punishment. >> i have intervied 100 -- interviewed over 100 children who have a lack amount of oxygen to their brain. >> reporter: now his 11-year- old daughter tells authorities that he used a technique on her that stimulates drowning. allegedly holding her face under a running faucet as water shot up her nose. she claims she was being punished, but did not know why

and that it happened at least four times over two years. now both husband and wife are under arrest charged with conspiracy and dangering the life of a child. authorities were first called to the home in july when morse was accused of grabbing his 11- year-old, dragging her across a gravel driveway and spanking her. the doctor was charged with third-degree assault in that case, but not convicted yet of anything. but the alleged mistreatment is a hot topic acing among neighbors. >> if there is a form of punishment, then punish a child, but don't torture a child. >> going overboard, trying to drown the kid. that's too far. in any opinion he should be locked up. >> reporter: an attorney has

not respond to a request for comment. according to documents obtained by the delaware news child, she said that she could go five minutes without brain damage, fearing that her father would lose track of time while holding her under the water. >> thank you, lesli. now the tornado thing has calmed down. >> they have canceled it. >> but now we're worried about hurricanes? >> yes, the hurricane center has come out with a revised forecast. and it is kind of unusual. they upped a little bit, 9 to 15 storms back in may, meaning tropical storms or hurricanes. four to eight would be a hurricane. the average is six. and one to three would have become a major hurricane with winds up to 111 miles per hour or higher. the new one is now a 12 to 17- name storm. five days expected too become

hurricanes and two to three becoming a category three with winds at 111 or higher. we thought that el nino might begin to develop and take these numbers down. they will not develop until after hurricane season, can which will run through november. so that's why the increase. but we now have a new warning out to the north and east of us towards baltimore into northeastern maryland. but these are the warnings that have been topped on the maryland side. we'll zoom into these storms. even though that you're not under it anymore and even washington county, you'll start to see the heavy rain. where will these storms go in the next hour? very slowly off to the north and the east and more heavy rain and storms for our friends

a second person has died at prince george's county late this afternoon. the 15-year-old died today. his wife 5-year-old died yesterday and jake's 24-year- old father is still in the hospital with severe borns spanning half of his body. firefighters pulled all of them.

today is the9th of the month. women helping women fight or prevent breast cancer is the goal of a brand new initiative at the howard university campus center. we've got more about it. >> reporter: it's called women of promise. the project is funded over the next two years by a $200,000 grant from coleman. the target group is women 20 to 24 with those living in d.c. ward 7 and 8. >> we are listening to those women who have not had a screening in the past two years that we want to get them back in. >> reporter: project director says that volunteer ambassadors known as women of promise will act as buddies to at least two of their peers. they will educate them about early detection as a healthy

choice for life. >> especially when it comes to breast cancer. so for example, a woman living in ward five, or ward 2 -- ward 8 is twice as likely to die from breast cancer than from ward 3. with other women that they already know and trust. >> reporter: they hope to reach more than 2,000 women, having at least 70% of them actually getting a mammogram will be a clear measure of success. >> women at times, even if we reach them with information, they don't make the transition to care. that's our benchmark is how many women are we getting to get the screening? >> 9news now. >> and keep yourself and your buddy in check. for a monthly early detection alert sponsored by washington radiologist associations. the first man on the moon

just to months ago it's the same thing. >> they will find something up there. the good news is the warning has subsided, but flooding is the problem out there right now and food warnings are in effect until 8:- - and flood warnings are in effect until 8:30. also, they are under a severe thunderstorm warning as is howard county. a pretty good storm in howard county. it is not moving. trying to move to the north and the west with a new storm for you that just popped up sort of a corner of frederick county, montgomery county, loudoun county, straddling three counties. that's a pretty heavy storm for you. and you guys got hammered yesterday. and this storm will produce, the very least, some very heavy rain. possibly some small hail. so you know watch out for that storm. now, we'll zoom back out a little bit and take you back towards hagerstown and really down towards winchester. these are where the big storms are, prompting the flash flood warnings. we'll put this into motion for

you over the next hour. they will not move too far as they try to move a little eastward, heading towards charlestown. they weaken somewhat, but we'll keep the showers and the storms in the forecast all night. a lot of lightning with these storms as well. watch it had storm just pop up. coming from nowhere. boom, some lightning. they got the kids in. stay away from windows. stay inside. 94 degrees at national. 64 is the dew point which is not too bad. humidity at 37%. that's what we can survive on. temperatures in the 90s though, pretty much everywhere as opposed to the 80s. 94 at great falls, arlington, 92 at college park. now, weather headlines. pig storms are possible for you tomorrow. isolated storms tonight and a better chance for widespread activity tomorrow. showers are lingering into saturday. but you know what, good news. a less humid weekend is on the way. for tonight, ice hated storms

people in japan today mark the 67th anniversary of the u.s. adam bomb attack during world war ii. thousands took part in ceremonies around the city for the first time, the united states sent in their ambassador to japan to attend that ceremony. and some remarkable video surfaced on youtube this week. a small plane crashing into the idaho mountain. >> but as they report, what makes this video extraordinary is that it was shot from the cockpit, showing us exactly what the pie hot and the passenger saw as -- pilot and the passenger saw as the whole thing unfolds. >> out of all the videos opening up online, a plane crash inside the cockpit, it will come with a healthy dose of skepticism. but this was all very real.

looking at what's left of the vintage, the 1947 to wonder how anyone survived. but all four on board, they did. and so did their footage. >> you know, maybe we shouldn't have taken off that day, but you know at the time i think that everything was good. >> and can yes, with your hands. >> reporter: had is the pie hot son -- he is the pilot son as they took off from a tiny airport near stanley, idaho back in june. cheer skies, beautiful mountain terrain. they brought along cameras to capture the moments. everyone was smiling during take off. even though the plane seemed to be struggling for lift in the hot summer day. just four minutes into the flight, he noticed that they were not getting any higher than about 70 feet above the tree tops. >> i still felt even as i was coming to the trees that my dad would pull us out of it and it would be okay. >> reporter: his dad was an experienced pilot who had flown in vietnam.
