situation where they are hearing the anger and the outrage from the consumers. when they were cut off without power that they are not making a profit from the delivery that they normally get paid for. but they get to charge you a portion of what they were able to make. they first didn't have a problem with that, no regrets about enacting that. but you know, they quietly sent out this announcement of a hearing today as we just obtained this, saying they will have a hearing and they will reconsider the entire thing. meaning that the bill could be, you know, taken off the books. >> this is from the very legislatures who approved these billings back in january? >> yes, it is a board that acted on this and the very board that said this is what we want to do. now they are very proud because before they could, you know, charge you for a week's worth of a portion of the billing as they limited it to the 24 hours when most people are without that power. most people's power have not

been eliminated. they thought it was a fix. but the consumers, i don't think that they found it to be a fix. >> and i remember that you will call it with them there. and at the point you talk to, i mean, no regrets. >> this is the chairman of the public service commission. saying we went to him after a hearing where people were just outraged about it. i asked them did you hear about the people complaining? well yeah, there were a lot of people that did not speak here. he never acknowledged that he ever heard those people so upset. this hearing, he is now acknowledging that he knows about the complaints. >> he doesn't know about it more. that's for sure. thank you so much. you'll stay all over this. >> yes. one lawmaker was all set up to bring the lawmakers, during this week's special session, which beganned today. the focus is expanding gambling. our scott broom is live in annapolis with more. scott? >> reporter: and the main thing on the plate here in a special session is whether or not to

clear up the way for big time vegas-style gambling just outside the d.c. line. the gambling issue is a big distraction. today, the legislature is backing in on the unusual special session to try to put that issue to rest. but the forces for it are powerful. they are opposed to the potential new competition from a site in prince george's county. the two county executives stood side by side before one hearing in a point counter point. >> it will take add least a 40% cut away from the county if we do that. >> and that's what they are not considering that they will attract people, being in that market. it'll attract people from around the world. >> they will need to cut them from existing casinos to allow

more vegas-style statewide to sweeten their deal. the sweetener for voters in all of this, perhaps as much as half a billion dollars a year in new revenue for schools. but they remain opposed. >> we are sick and tired of legislatures that would try to take on the casino down our throats. >> whatever happens to your voters, they will need to approve that in the poll in november. >> and you have a lot of money on the line for both sides that they are pitting counties against counties, casino developers against them. and it seems like it has been going on for a decade here in maryland. the legislature, a committee this afternoon took their first step towards clearing the way. if it all happens here during the special section, over the next week or so, then even if that happens, voters need to approve it in november and perhaps, you'll see gambling as

early as 2016. it is still a long ways out. reporting live in annapolis, scott broom, 9news now. >> thank you, scott. maryland lawmakers are trying to get other measures added to the agenda. and already, one passed a senate panel. they address a court ruling that pit bulls are dangerous. do you remember that? regardless of breed, they made it liable for bites. a lunchtime picnic will go terrible wrong for d.c. partner services. and their employees. >> five d.c. employees were taken to the hospital after being run over by one of their own. >> we had an accident here this morning. >> reporter: the driver, also a dhs employee backed into a picnic table while four of their colleagues were sitting on it. three of them rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and a

few others, including the driver of the suv were taken to the hospital. >> and the driver, i understand that they went to the hospital on their own. >> reporter: so what happened? well, the metropolitan police department are still investigating. meanwhile most of the injured employees have been released from the hospital with minor injuries. two were still being treated, but all are expected to make a full recovery. in washington, kristin fisher, 9news now. >> members of the temple outside milwaukee where nine people were shot over the weekend, returned to that building for the first time today. the fbi returned that temple's keys to their leaders this morning. now members are working to clean up inside. they plan to hold a ceremony in honor of the six people killed tomorrow. the owner of the virginia discount store is in some serious trouble tonight for the way that he may have obtained some of his meat. >> reporter: i'm surae chinn, front royal, virginia, where the owner of this shop is

accused of dumpster diving, reselling bad meat. he says that is not true. >> you have never gone dumpster diving for meat? >> me? no. >> reporter: arrested, charged for selling bad meat. >> an inspector came to your store and they said that the meat was freezer burned, decomposed, unsound, unhealthful? >> reporter: i would say they did not know what they were doing. >> reporter: inside, he sells what commercial businesses would throw away because of the meat's sell-by date is about to expire. the bob evans breakfast sausage has a june 2012 sell by date. >> once it is frozen, there is no expiration date on it. >> reporter: that's true. no regulation on the sell by date with the exception of infant formula and grade a dairy. spark says he is trying to run a business to help the poor. >> to see people like me not work and to have families like this. >> what about the meat? >> i have never had any issue with the meat.

well, some warnings popping up throughout the day, prompting the weather team to declare this a code yellow aall right day. >> reporter: yeah, all the severe thunderstorm warnings have been over, but replaced by flash flood warnings. let me show you -- show you doppler radar in effect for you and also for frederick county in virginia around winchester. we'll zoom in to this storm, a pretty heavy storm that we talked about this half an hour ago, right on the border there for you and monroe county. and you've got the heavy rain headed towards dickerson. the storm is trying to move off to the south and east, but not too much movement for any of these storms. that's why they are flood aringing out to the west as these storms are still producing heavy rain from frederick, winchester, all the way up here. we'll come back and talk about whether or not they will last all night and a better chance of severe weather tomorrow. >> you're the man, top. coming up tonight, googling to graduate.

they show us where they spent their time today. president obama stopped for a bowl of chili at a diner in pueblo, colorado, where they are trying to sway the middle class voters. at a campaign event, the president went after mitt romney's tax plan. there and they have tried to tell us about the trickle down tax cut plan before. but they did not work. they will not work then and it will not work for us now. >> reporter: colorado is a key swing state, showing the middle class is split. romney is in new york raising more cash for his campaign. on went wednesday, he criticized the president's plan to change welfare. >> we must restore and i will restore work into welfare.

>> reporter: romney has hinted his choice for running mate is coming soon, the gop convention will be less than three weeks away. >> and i see dead people. that's a famous line from the movie of the sixth sense, but it kind of applies to voter rules in virginia too. as you'll see the state board of election's review for their list of registered voters. they found the names of 10,000 people who passed away. a cross check with social security that turned up the names, so now they will need to be removed from the voter rules. a dire report today as they said they lost $5.2 billion in the third quarter. the postal service is being heard for retiring benefits and declining mail volume. despite that crash crunch though, they say that there will be no plans to cut back on day-to-day delivery service. some of the events that the

by the athletes. those cars are designed to look like mini coopers. speaking of olympics, there are efforts underway to get yoga and pole dancing on the olympic sports. peggy fox will take us to a local yoga studio for some reflection. >> bend your knees and roll your hips open. >> reporter: yoga mite become an olympic sport, consider this. it may be more physically challenging than some sports like table tennis or race walk. >> they got really into it and there is form and stuff. it is really cool. i mean, i would try it out. >> reporter: some question why rhythmic gymnastics or synchronized swimming are a port. >> how about shooting? >> i'm not a big fan of guns, but you know, they could be my bodyguard any time. >> reporter: pole dancers may need bodyguards after their routines, but is it a sport worthy of formal competition at the highest level? >> is dancing an olympic sport? i don't think it is. it is more of an art form, an entertainment form. [ laughter ] >> reporter: the international federation of pool sports along with yoga are both working towards getting in the official games. the owner of dancing mind yoga in falls church would love to see her passion brought to the world's stage. >> let's bring it on if it means more people understanding about yoga and getting a chance to see o how beautiful a practice is, why not? >> if yoga becomes an olympic sport, it could mean yogies competing against one another. and that is really not what it is all about or is it? >> reporter: peggy fox, 9news now. >> had so what sport would you like to see eliminated from the

activity still. we'll zoom in to a couple of storms that just popped up really in the last half an hour. this storm between great falls and reston is not crazy heavy, but building a little bit with yellow there, indicating about half an inch, some rain here for your lawns. that is just drifting to the east very slowly as we need to move back out. it this storm intensifying in the southwestern county. the west side of 270 not too far. but that will be pretty heavy rain for you down to winchester. where will all these go in the next hour? they don't move very far too fast, but it is kind of moving off to the north and the east. this had kind of sit and eventually diminish. but you are under flash flood warnings. lightning, still not much of a

factor as it was as they first developed, still pretty intense. the lightning out in that corner of frederick county as you can hear thunder to get the kidsindoors. a live weather look for you. 93 downtown. dew point at 63. that's pretty nice. relative humidity at 37%. you can't complain about that. 94 at great falls. 90 in arlington and 93 over in bowie. a cold front headed our way tomorrow. big storms are possible tomorrow. those that develop could be hefty. a better chance tomorrow. still a pretty decent day. less humid all weekend. we'll get a break on saturday and sunday and isolated storms are possible and muggy. low temperatures in the 70s. winds are out of the south at about 10. by the morning, a chance for a thunderstorm in the morning. temperatures in the 70s and the

for the folks at the very top. roll back regulations on big banks. and he says that if we do, our economy will grow and everyone will benefit. but you know what? we tried that top down approach. it's what caused the mess in the first place. i believe the only way to create an economy built to last is to strengthen the middle class. asking the wealthy to pay a little more so we can pay down our debt in a balanced way. so that we can afford to invest in education, manufacturing, and home-grown american energy for good middle class jobs. sometimes politics can seem very small. but the choice you face, it couldn't be bigger. ♪ i'm barack obama and i approve this message.
