here we go again. another storm, more power outages. thousands of people in the dark again. matt jablow is live in montgomery county. iism imagine gin pepco not getting much benefit of the doubt tonight. >> reporter: derek, at the height of the storm we're told about 10,000 pepco customers have lost power, the vast majority in montgomery county. we're told about 6200 pepco

customers are still in the dark, most of them here in montgomery county. brian coakley of the manor club neighborhood has lost power so many times over the years that he now keeps miners' lights scattered throughout his house for times just like this. a powerful stormed move through downing trees, knocking out five or six pepco feeder lines. >> unfortunately, we're getting used to this, and i am going to finally break down and bye a generator capable of running more things, you know. hope springs eternal. we think that we can live like the rest of the first world, but not so in this neighborhood. >> reporter: a very unhappy pepco customer, one of thousands throughout the area tonight. some good news for people like brian coakley is that the storm that moved through this area earlier tonight cooled things down significantly. so being without power and therefore air conditioning won't be nearly as bad for the next few hours as it would have

been just a few hours ago. derek. >> thank you, matt. we'll hope the power comes back on for those folks. meantime, topper shutt is here with me in the weather center. what's the deal with the storms? >> where matt is, no storms, but we'll show you live doppler. they are now west of town. some of these not severe just yet, although i would not be surprised to see a couple of warnings on these storms. we'll zoom into the storm south and west of warrenton headed for fauquier county. this is a pretty heavy storm. right now, we don't see anything in terms of hail or gusty winds with this storm, but this is a pretty hefty storm. potential for flooding, just around flint hill, and just to the west of warrenton, just drifting very slowly to the north, and that could be a little bit of hail and heavy rain south of 29. now we will move north, and we still find another round, if you will, of showers and storms that are hitting right now through the panhandle of west virginia. they got hammered earlier today in morgan county and berkeley

county. pretty good activity around martinsburg and on the other side, the west side of i-81. we will put this into motion. the problem with these storms, they are going to move very, very slowly. so i think flash flooding is possible again through northern fauquier county and possibly even as you go into prince william county a little later on tonight. we will say if we're going do this all over again tomorrow because we have a cold front on the map, derek. we'll tell what you that means. >> thank you,ton. there is another electrifying story out there. rgiii begins. the rookie quarterback taking on the buffalo bills in preseason action. for more on that we head up to kristen bear 70. what did you think? -- kristen berset. >> reporter: it was not too bad of a start. did he as much as the redskins could have hoped for. we knew his debut would be short-lived tonight, and it was. just 14 plays. and then rgiii was pulled on a

high note. but like i said, not too bad at all. things started out a little rough. two hand-offs. kevin roy story didn't go anywhere. a completion was ruled out of bounds. the next series that could have spelled disaster on 3rd and one, griffin turned the ball over on a botched hand i don't have. even though the ball was down, rgiii ran down george wilson using his body to throw him out of bounds. mike shanahan said he was actually kind of pleased with the way that rgiii performed in that regard. the third time was the charm. an eight-play 80-yard drive capped off by a screen pass to pierre garcon with a pre-season flip much to the dismay of his coaches, i'm sure. that would be it for the rack key. all in all it was a pretty good night.

man adds to a string of violence that's been popping up in the last few weeks. our ken molestina talked to the cops and others who say they may be more to come. he's live in arlington both with the story. ken. >> reporter: well, you know, derek, word is certainly out here on the streets, and there is a lot of concerned people out here taking notice of these violent crimes. police officials say they're all isolated cases, none of them are linked, but it's causing a lot of concern on the streets. >> i think it's a safe place, but last two, three weeks, i don't know what's going on. >> reporter: this man works and lives near the 3300 block of wilson boulevard, the spot where a man was brutally stabbed after confronting another man reportedly breaking into his car. he, like own, is worried about what seems to be a spike inviolent crime. >> it's scary. we are scared. we'll be careful. >> reporter: arlington police say the man stabbed is recovering from multiple wounds at a nearby hospital while they search for the suspect.

the bloody attack follows four recent homicide in a county that hasn't had any in the past 2 months until just a couple weeks ago. >> it's very concerning for us. we've had multiple incidents now. >> the spike in homicides began in late july when police responded to a murder-suicide at an apartment complex on the 4500 block of 31st street. then there was the jewelry store owner who was killed inside his shop. most recently police were called out to a double homicide in an apartment. >> two of those homicides are closed, and the one that happened just a couple days ago, we have some promising leads on that, and hopefully we can bring that suspect to justice. >> reporter: despite that, arlington police chief doug scott is well aware of the public concerns and the work his department is now tasked with, mainly calming worries among residents. >> i hope, like everything, is going to be fine, you know, but that's the scary thing, you know. >> reporter: again, police say none of these cases are

connected. all of it's late. you just heard the arlington police chief talking about closing some of these cases and having leads on others. however they still need the public's help. anyone with information on the stack or any of the murders being investigated, you are asked to call police. live in arlington county, ken molestina, 9news now. new tonight, d.c. police and members of the gay, lesbian and transgendered community hold a rally, a show of solidarity in response to a recent attack on a gay couple. organizers were asking neighbors to get more involved in the fight against intolerance. >> think about one thing you can do next week to fix this problem, whether it's to volunteer with a local organization, donating to a cause. getting to know your neighbors. >> that attack took place back on july 22nd. one victim suffered is several broken bones. so far no arrest. a prince george's county man is behind bars accused of sexually abusing three young kids.

investigators say michael brotu sexually abused a 10-year-old boy in his home between august 2011 and june 30th of this year. and detectives tell 9news they also believe that he abused a six-year-old family member and another eight-year-old boy who was in his care. dumpster diving, that's one thing. but then selling the meat you pull out of there? that's taking things to a whole new level. but that is exactly what rodney sparks is accused of, selling bad meat that an inspector called pewtrid. the store in front royal virginia says he's never gone dumpster diving and he stands behind everything he sells, fad other businesses would throw away because a "sell by" date was about to expire. >> i'm not interested in getting rich. i was trying to help out, you know, the people that needed the help. >> it really helps the community to feed people like me that's not working. >> sparks does have a pretrial hearing set for next month. this is a story that's

captured the morbid curiosity of folks all over the country. a crazed cannibal chews off a man's face in a zombie-style attack. this happened in miami on memorial day. now we're hearing from the victim from the very first time. here's the exclusive report. >> he chewed my face, he plucked out my eyes. basically that's all there is to say about it. >> that is the voice of the victim of the so-called causeway can that balance. for the first time we are hearing him describe the vicious attack. >> for a very short amount of time i thought he was a good guy, but he just went berserk. >> cbs 4 news obtained a copy of the interview homicide detectives conducted. >> what was he saying when he was assaulting you? >> you, me, nobody else here,

gonna kill you, something like that. >> did he say why? >> no, he just started to scream. he was talking kind of funny for awhile. >> what do you mean by funny talk? >> that i was going to die, that he was going to die. he must have been souped up on something. >> the details of the attack still vivid in his mind. >> he smashed my face into the sidewalk. my face was all messed up. my eyes got plucked out. he was strange glick me. at the same time he was picking my eyes out. >> detectives asked him if he said or did anything that might have provoked him. >> what could provoke an attack of that type? i didn't say anything mean or nasty to him. >> in a subsequent interview he told detectives that rudy eugene blamed him for stealing his bible. pieces of his bible were found scattered along the causeway.

the man said he had never seen the bible and denied taking it. after the attack news reports suggest that they may have crossed paths, possibly at a soup kitchen. >> do you recall ever seeing mr. eugene before? >> i do not think so. >> reporter: other details he just seemed to make up. >> he had hair that was brown and wavey, and it looked like a mohecan type of haircut. >> although the attack left the man blind in both eyes and undergoing occupational therapy, he seems relatively resigned to what happened to him. >> wow. that was jim defiti reporting. he says if it wasn't for the fast acting miami police officers he might not be around to tell this terrible tale. still to come, a survivor of that colorado theater shooting has strong words for the man accused of shooting him. plus, if you have any

came out to bethesda today to help raise money for the owner. he's battling leukemia. even though he's in the hospital, greg was able to skype in and talk with all his loved ones. we wish greg all of the best and hopefully a speedy recovery. attorneys for the man accused of going on that deadly shooting spree inside a colorado movie theater say their client is member tale ill. that is cold comfort, however, for survivors of his brutal attack. >> that doesn't give him the right to do what he did. i don't care how mentally damaged he is. >> 24-year-old james holmes appeared wide-eyed and dazed inside the courtroom again today. holmes is accused of killing 12 people in aurora at a july showing of the latest batman movie. he's due back august 16th. 9 wants you to know it is a trifecta of food danger tonight. closures in maryland, virginia, and d.c. for risks that just might make you sick. here's investigative reporter

russ ptacek. >> roaches in the restaurant, no hot water for cleaning from fairfax to the u-street corridor, we start in prince george's county. in upper marlboro inspectors suspended tucker's restaurant for insect violations and no hot water for cleaning. the manager at this pizza place was not happy to see us but emphasized they had cleared a reinspection. >> everything is cleared. >> it says these items were not corrected from the previous inspection. roaches, mice, chicken at 77 degrees. >> you are right, but after that, everything is cleared. >> reporter: inspect ors crated mice droppings on the pizza dough roller and roaches throughout the shop that goes by the name pizza nest. the shop was also cited for cheese, ham, turkey and that chicken at unsafe temperatures. >> everything is fine now. everything is fine.

you want to check the temperature? >> reporter: he invited us in and showed us the walk-in cooler now at a safe 31 degrees. but while inside, we spotted live and dead in section on the floor. >> in one thing everything cannot be cleared. >> but it's not just one time, it's the second time and now i'm here and there are live and dead in section on the floor. >> i tell you i have the agreement. >> this is your c. >> reporter: he showed us a recent contract with an exterminator assuring us the restaurant is safe. his wasn't the only suspended restaurant we found with macing sign. >> they're putting on a fresh coat of paint. the sign is even down at tippy's tacos in fairfax but they are reopened. the inspection report indicates inspectors came here twice finding no food safety manager on duty. that means no one inside certified to know the proper temperatures to keep food safe or how long you can keep food and continue storing it before it is so contaminated it can make customers sick.

roaches again back in the district at jumbo sliced pizza on u street. citations fortin set, no hot water for cleaning, and no license led to closures there. at this peruvian restaurant, inspectors cited the restaurant for operating without a certified safety manager on duty and no one there stopped operations despite no hot water for sanitation and food at unsafe temperatures. all of these restaurants, yes all of them, passed reinspection and are now back in business. we tweeted and facebooked our findings as they happen. next time, follow me so i can alert you as it all goes down. i'm investigative reporter russ ptacek, 9news now. >> a rough night out there, top. some areas were really hammered. how strong were those storms? >> trees down in morgan county, west virginia. power outages in montgomery county. tronl boundary moves in here tomorrow. we'll probably do it all over again tomorrow. 95 today, day 42 since june 1st

90 or higher. let's start with live doppler 9000. no warnings on these storms but i tell you what, earlier we had some flash flood warnings out in the panhandle. i would not be surprised to see warnings posted in the next couple hours. very heavy rain, slow movers. got a couple areas we're watching. one down to the south and west, down toward warrenton. one area near hagerstown but on the west side of i-81. we showed you this at the top of the show. this is pretty intense. you see the red. that's rainfall rates of an inch an hour. we're getting some pretty serious rain. we'll zoom in farther. don't see any hail in this. one pass, i thought i did see a little hail but a tremendous amount of rain from warrenton west aus work your way west towards or leans and out 211 and back up 688. pretty heavy storm. we'll back out and we'll show you the big picture again. we'll put this into motion. we will show you where these storms are going to go in the

next hour. they don't go very fan, very fast, and therein lies the problem. flooding possible through portions of fauquier county, prince william county and headed even to chantilly. so we're not done with the storms yet. a live look outside brought to you by michael and so. 76, dew point 6 4, which isn't that bad, dew points in the mid six. satellite picture and radar combined, lots of showers and storms in the ohio valley. that's where the frontal boundary is. look at all the storms along the ohio river. big storms developing back into north carolina. so because of that we are going keep storms in overnight. also going to keep the chance for a thunderstorm even for your morning commute. they will be few and far between. mr. bernstein will take care of you at 4:25 in the morning. another humid day tomorrow, no doubt. big storms are likely, some of which again could be severe, and looks like the showers are going to linger into saturday. that's the bad news. good news, i think we're going see a drier air mass saturday
