flow pulling in that moisture. the dew points aren't too bad right around 64. we're definitely going to be looking at a cool and mild start to today but in the afternoon and evening hours, temperatures should make it up into the lower range 90s by about 4:00 to 5:00. that's when the showers and storms will arrive. it will coming us back down to near 70 degrees in the city tonight. we'll see some 60s in the suburbs early tomorrow morning. looks like a dry saturday forecast. however sunday afternoon we have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms moving on through. cooler behind the front. there is one incident i need for you to know about and that's on the northbound side of i-95. if you are planning to head out of town early this morning for the weekend, you'll want to know about it. it's blocking northbound 95 at i-195 and you're being diverted on to the inner loop of the baltimore beltway along the west side to get around it. so be aware of that northbound on i-95 heading toward baltimore. closer in, no issues to report. we'll take a live look outside and show you what it looks

welcome back to 9news now. 5:14. mike asked are you sick of the 90s? if you are, relief is here. a lot of folks are in the fall time mode. i'm starting to see a few hints. over the weekend we're going to see our temperatures really drop back, almost 10 degrees. today get set for some sunshine to start and clouds later on this afternoon. right now our michael & son

camera looks just fine. we're talking about sunshine for most of the midz day. early afternoon a few clouds will start to move on through but i think we'll be okay till about 2:00 in the afternoon. then we'll start to see some moisture move in from the west. that means partly cloudy skies for late day and yes, showers and thunderstorms could affect your drive time home by about the 5:00 hour. ahead of all of that action, though, most of us make it into the very low 90s. of course right now 74 degrees at reagan national. satellite and radar is calm. the front is approaching. you can see some of those clouds over indiana and ohio. it's going to keep on sliding in toward the east. that will affect us later on in the afternoon. overall, though, morning sunshine looks pretty good. midday, late afternoon, clouds start to increase. some of those storms could be strong, even some pockets of heavy rain. isolated severe pop isn't out of the question. cooler temperatures are on the way and we're looking forward to seeing the humidity drop as well over the next couple of

days. right now we're looking at temperatures about 74 for reagan national. 63 toward cumberland and even 68 down in toward southern maryland and toward richmond. we will see future cast start to bring in some clouds and cover later on this afternoon. as this updates, i'm noticing a little more moisture coming through, holding on a little more steady into the afternoon and evening hours as it cross over the mountains. some of that could pop with steadier rain, particularly late in the evening so if you're going out tonight, have the umbrella with you. tomorrow we will see some clouds starting you off on your saturday morning. so if you have any game plans for tomorrow, it will look good in the afternoon. the morning a little bit damp. highs today lower 90s. upper 80s up toward the mountain ranges. but overall a pretty good finish to the workweek. code yellow today because of the showers and thunderstorms. we're looking at very good conditions for tomorrow. lower 80s. we'll keep lower 80s on sunday but increase the cloud cover which will give us an opportunity for rain late in the day by sunday afternoon. but for monday rain opportunity

at a u street center for gay, lesbian and transjennerred people. investigators say he had 15 chik-fil-a sandwiches and 50 rounds of ammunition on him when he walked into the family research council and allegedly said "i hate your politics." meanwhile the guard leo johnson's mother says her son's actions trying to stop that shooter saved a lot of lives. >> i could be no prouder than i am. i thank god for everything. i thank god for him, too. because so many people could have been gone away from here today. >> d.c. police chief cathy lanier visitedded johnson family on thursday. if convicted on all charges the shooter could face up to 50 years in prison. he's the newest of the four main players in the 2012 presidential race, but after being named to the republican ticket in virginia last saturday, vice presidential candidate paul ryan is returning to the commonwealth today. 9news now reporter kristin fisher is live in springfield with more.

good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. the candidates and their campaigns know how important virginia is in this race. mitt romney chose this state as the place to announce his running mate last saturday. now paul ryan has campaigned here twice in the last week. he'll be here at west springfield high scal this afternoon. on the democratic side, vice president biden was in danville yesterday where he held a rally and created quite a bit of controversy. he told a predominantly african- american audience that mitt romney would, quote, chain wall street and put you all back in chains. the romney campaign called biden's comment a new low, but so far the white house nor vice president biden has apologized for those remarks. yesterday the president spent time trying to rally his troops in virginia where he currently holds a seven-point lead over his opponent. earlier in the week he was campaigning in iowa where his main focus as it has been for quite some time was on health

care and distinguishing his medicare plan from his opponent. >> my plan extends medicare by more than a decade. their medicare ends -- their plan ends medicare as we ow it. >> reporter: all reporters wanted to talk about was taxes and why romney won't release more than two years worth of his income tax returns. so today expect his running mate to try once again to set apart the romney medicare plan from obama's medicare plan. you can also expect him to talk quite a bit about virginia's economy. the event here at west springfield high school is expected to start around 3:30. doors are going to open at 2:15. it's open to the public. if you want tickets, you've got to go to the mitt romney's campaign website. >> kristin fisher live in northern virginia this morning. a second case of west nile virus has been reported in maryland. officials say the reported case is near the d.c. metro area but they won't give an exact location.

43 states have reported cases of west nile this summer. in texas alone there has been 465 cases and 17 deaths. it's so serious that dallas began aerial spraying chemicals to kill the insects. virginia and maryland both use aerial mosquito spraying on a case-by-case basis. the district of columbia does not. warnings are going out around the washington area about two women who may have scammed area police officers and firefighters. the president of the d.c. fire union put out an alert on their web page about two women who are now facing charges in atlanta. the women are accused of running an identity theft scheme targeting atlanta police officers. now there are reports that these suspects visited police and fire stations around d.c. and arlington trying to sell supplemental insurance policies. one of the suspects actually posted a photo of herself in a bulletproof vest and she appears to be standing inside a d.c. police drug enforcement office.

>> my face is confidently recognized. >> reporter: your face is red and then matched up to your facebook like history. then a coupon is sent right to your mobile device. the technology is cool, but the system is raising concerns with privacy experts, something red pepper is very mindful of. >> we're not actually going to be pulling all of the data, not to mention applications that we do for retail companies around the country and all that kind of stuff. people allow apps -- applications all the time. that is essentially saying that we can have access to your network. i think that's sort of a line and a comfort line that people are moving toward as long as information is not misused. >> reporter: face deals uses facebook's open platform but is not otherwise connected to facebook and that face deals logo looks an awful lot like facebook's but red pepper c.e.o.

i would say 12:00 to 1:00 we're still looking good as temperatures will move to the lower 90s. by about 3:00 headed in toward the afternoon, clouds will begin to overtake the sunshine and we'll definitely see showers and thunderstorms develop from west to east. it definitely means that by the drive time home, 5:00, 6:00, even into your danger plans if you're plan -- dinner plans if you're planning to head out on the town, you'll want that umbrella with you because it could be a bit stormy later on in the day. basically sunny for your lunch break. late afternoon showers and thunderstorm. should could be strong and even severe possibility in a few isolated locations. cooler weekend temperatures behind the front. the calendar is going to look a lot like september as we head later in toward the weekend forecast. but we'll at least get to drop down the humidity with our temperatures as well. so the forecast for today is looking a bit on the cool side to start. 60s up toward the north for gaithersburg 64. down to 64 in the southern

virginia and maryland areas. just south of the beltway we're looking at temperatures that are quite cool. the forecast overall with future cast is pulling in that moisture. the timing is a little bit iffy. the front is expected to slide on into our direction. gets close enough by the 6:00 hour to start popping in this moisture. this could be accelerated a little bit. it could slow down a little bit but do expect moisture into your evening plans. overnight tonight, some of the moisture is going to hang around early on saturday morning. if you have an early game, it could be a little bit damp or moist. then the clouds will start to stay for partly cloudy skies on your saturday. overall today is quite nice. it's going to be hot. be prepared for that. lower 90s inside the beltway and around. we'll see a couple of 80s from hagerstown down toward winchester and out toward harrisonburg but we'll also see a little bit of sunshine tomorrow as well. code yellow definitely for today as we hit the lower 90s. that's going to destabilize the atmosphere and give us the opportunity for showers and storms. behind the front a little bit

young boy show up at their store during a freak storm. it has lots of plot holes. get it? expendables ii teams up with sylvester stallone, chuck norris and bruce willis. a job that seems like an easy paycheck because a revenge mission with worldwide consequences after one of the expendables is killed. and now entertainment insider denise is here with her take on another big film opening this weekend. sparkles stars former american idol winner jordan sparks and the late whitney houston. this was her final performance. >> well, not that we knew at the time the movie was done. this movie is almost heartbreaking because this was a labor of love for the late whitney houston. since she saw the movie as a young child she wanted to do this movie. when she started working as a producer she wanted to play

sparkle. as the tide turns, you get older so you end up playing spark's -- sparkle's mom. it was dubbed as her comeback. she hasn't been in a major motion picture since 1996. this was supposed to be her big comeback. her fans were expecting it. she was supposed to sing in the movie. the movie is supposed to be updated so instead of harlem in 18960s it's detroit in the 1960's. instead of playing a single mom, she plays a single mom who's actually successful and jordin sparks plays sparkle. >> but -- this was her dream come true and the song is one of the highlights of the movie, whitney houston's song. >> absolutely. you can hear her singing through it. although it's not the same whitney houston that you heard in the bodyguard, she is and was a hell of a performer and it's very evident. she gives everything to this role. >> the reviews do praise houston's performance as a

protective mom in the movie. >> it's a very good performance. you could tell that she sunk her teeth into it, really wanting this comeback and that is what is so heartbreaking. she could have enjoyed, they could have had the love 6 her fans again -- love of her fans again in the motion picture because that's where she belonged. >> jordin sparks looks great. she did sparkle. did she have that big of a role in the movie? >> it's the lead. it's a lot of people who basically play a lot of important smaller parts. we have three daughters and their love interests. you have the mom which is whitney houston and you have the world of entertainment trying to make it. so while there's no one single lead whose narrative we follow, it's divided among the three sisters, they each carry the weight on their shoulders. each of the actors basically does their part really, really well. >> a lot of us watched "dream
