rise and shine. it is time to get up and go to school. olga breese is in for howard bernstein. >> reporter: for some it will be a little difficult getting up this morning. i will not admit how many times i pressed my snooze button, but eventually you have to get up and it is the first day of school. forecast is on the cloudy side. our day planner is going to actually give us a break. with the moisture still around, coming in from the south and the southeast, we are twelve going to see the opportunity for some late day showers and storms. here's your day planner. overall cloudy skies, temperatures right now in the middle 60s outside the beltway, upper 60s inside. we'll continue moving on through thes and into the lower 80s by afternoon. by the time we get to 4:00 or 5:00, showers and storms will begin to develop off toward our west and slide in toward the

beltway. temperatures should peak around 82 degrees in town. overall this morning, you will find that there is some poor visibility, but only in spots. we are doing fine in the city center, only down to about 8 miles visibility, which is pretty reasonable. up toward the northern river and toward our south, we are definitely seeing some of the patchy fog around. a few showers are sliding down in toward culpepper and fredericksburg. our temperatures yes, very, very mild. 69 for reagan national, 63 for hagerstown and 73, more moist by the water for packs river. futurecast is going to have showers off and on all day long. they were not expecting any heavy rain, but we could see a few pockets become steady if a shower or thunderstorm develops into the late afternoon and

school time group. joining me now is michelle, we are going to talk about the key things kids need to focus on. >> number one we know that stress mounts when the school doors open. but if we set up with simple little routines now, mike we can keep the lid on the stress and make the whole year a lot more positive. starting with what parents say is their biggest nightmare, who is doing what, where is the activity, is today band practice or whatever? but if you start with the family command center, it is the simplest way to start the routine going. everybody's schedule is all mapped out, post it adhesive notes are wonderful, you can color coordinate every family member. set up a white board. just a place that is maybe on your refrigerator, or on a door,

where family members can share mess cannels to one another. you can write simple reminders. other things that parents say is really an issue is the morning mania of i can't find the permission form. set up an in and out pocket. you can tell your kids, the last thing before the door, check the pocket, put it in your backpack and walk out the door. stress is reduced. >> are there things you can do the night before? i can't yes, when you have one of those that daddals, -- that is slow, set the alarm clock so you don't have to be big ben. put their backpack by the door so it is ready to go. >> when it comes to the extracurricular activities, it can be a nightmare caring your
