the moisture in the ground is hold go on. we are in the middle to upper 60s this morning. we'll hit the lower 70s by about the 9:00 hour and yes, we will see mostly cloudy skies all day today. overcast skies will have the opportunity to hit hit upper 70s. only a high in the lower 80s today. middle 80s for tuesday and wednesday. by the time we get to the middle of the week. >> not a fun start to monday morning's rush hour, especially for virginia drivers. on the northbound side of i-95 we had a single vehicle accident right before the beltway north of route 644. you still have the red and yellow. let's take a live look on our

camera first. northbound i-95, the investigation is continuing the arrow board is set up to guide you over to the outer loop. the lanes are open, as you can see. now we'll take a look at the northbound side from the other perspective. ones again the lanes are open but very heavy and slow up to springfield. let's go back over to our maps and this time head into prince george's county. no issues on the beltway, if you are coming in on the bw parkway, the beltway is looking great as you travel between i-95 and the wilson school bridge. we'll take a live look at the beltway here. no issues between 270 and 66. back in a few minutes with more traffic. the slight coolness in the air some morning is a sign summer will soon be over. it is over in just a few hours

for prince george's county students. >> they are headed back to school today. peggy fox is live in mitchellvie, maryland where the buses are getting ready to roll. good morning peg. >> reporter: good morning. first, anybody driving through prince george's county today, be aware school children are out today. slow down for their own safety and for your own wallet, because there are speed cameras up in the school zones. there are 123,000 school children in prince george's county. the new greenbelt middle school is opening its doors today. take a look over the weekend. many families came to a back to school fair. this will bring a big change in leadership. dr. william is moving to philadelphia to lead that school system. his departure has been a big disappointment for many.

the interim school superintendent came from the district of columbia. he is alvin crawley. the school board chair, regina jacobs said he will serve as interim director as they look for a new superintendent of schools. next monday, classes start in the district, frederick and montgomery counties in maryland. tuesday ter labor day it is back to school for alexandria, as well as arlington, fairfax and prince william counties. a man police suspect was high on pc pwill likely face charges. prince george's county police were called to barn by lane in

60s and 70s, we should hit highs in afternoon in the lower 80s with a chance of late day showers and thunderstorms. looking ugly on the northbound side of i-95. you have off and on delays like this coming up from woodbridge at route 1 across the river and again, off and on to springfield where an earlier accident was cleared. i am watching your money. college is so expensive these days, so parents and students really want to make sure they pick a major that will actually get you a good paycheck down the road. we are joined right now by katelyn dewey. >> reporter: a lot of kids go through school, they go that college degree and then they can't find a job. let's take a look at some of the economics. what are people looking at

nowadays for college? >> talking about $50,000 a year. a kid graduating certainly wants to have a career where they can actually pay off the debt. >> we have a top five list here and the top major was pharmacology. >> a grad right out of school who majored in pharmacy can expect to make $100,000 a year. to make that out of school is incredible. >> nursing came in at number two. you don't tend to think about nursing as the most profitable major, you don't think it is necessarily going to top the lift. what is the story there? >> nursing you are pretty much guaranteed a job when you graduate. the unemployment rate for nurses is something like 2%, which is

extraordinarily low. and number 3, we come in with transportation sciences. what is the story there? >> aaron ngataical -- engineering. >> i was surprised not to see finance and account majors. why is that? what is the trend there? >> that has a lot to do with the unemployment rate for recent grads. even though people are making a lot of money, they are not necessarily getting jobs right out of school. katelyn, you are journalism major who graduated a year ago and you found a job. how did you pull it off? >> i think it has to do with internships. each if you are majoring in liberal arts or fine arts, as long as you are learning the practical skills, internships,

think we are fine through the lunch time hours, even through the early afternoons, -- afternoon, we'll get through the upper 70s and we could see 82 degrees. then 4:00, 5:00 the moisture starts to move on in through the east, our temperatures will start to drop off. visibility is down but for most of the city center, we are looking pretty good and down toward the eastern shore. overall today though the fog will mix quickly. a few of the showers possible by late in the day though, you want to have the umbrella nearby. another opportunity for rape in our tuesday forecast as well. doppler radar not too bad with fairly mild temperatures comfortable, for the most part, upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

here's the timing with our futurecast model. moisture band moves through in the morning, by midday we could see a pop of the to therred showers. later on this afternoon, we are in the clear. drive time home looking good. can't rule out the opportunity of a scattered shower. nonetheless our highs today should make it into the upper 70s. 82 from for reagan national airport and overall tonight down into the 60s. even lower 60s and upper 50s north and west. code yellow for today and tomorrow. because of the rain chance, will's stay in the le to mid- 80s through the rest of the week. we have been telling you all morning long about this accident in virginia. northbound 95 is right before the beltway after route 644.

it was a pedestrian struck on the northbound side of 95. don't know what they were doing on the intstitt but didn't end up well. you see all -- interstate, but didn't end up well. this is just approaching the river through woodbridge and it is going to be off and on like this through springfield. the lanes are open, there is still some activity there in the area but your travel lanes are open. it is all that heavy and slow traffic. 6:18 in the morning. you are going to need to give yourself the extra time to deal with it. heading to the southbound side of i-27 0rbgs overall, about route 85 toward 121, off and on delays there. slide did i grove road looks

folks boost the test scores. does it have to do with bringing in new principals and training them in place? >> naturally happened great leaders, great staff and our very committed staff, our administrators are all doing fabulous work. the board of education has also had a focus on renovation, reform, innovation, and improving students' performance. >> as far as principals, you told me you replaced three fourths of them? >> yes more than three quarters of the principals have been replaced because of natural separations and retirement and his individuals choosing do other things. that has been the case through a lot of our success. also the work we are doing to really develop the capacity of

and security for the entire nation. ikea is getting into something new. the retailer is looking to get into the budget hotel business. the financial times reports ikea wants to build and develop at least 100 budget hotels across us bancorp and an executive says the hotels won't bear the ikea name, won't be run by the company and won't use ikea furniture. but they will use the philosophy of good quality at a reasonable price. amazon has a new king of the hill. "the hunger games" has out sold all seven harry potter books. this record takes into account print and kindle books combined, but only counts it for amazon.

and electric plug in car technology is taking a new step forward. infinity plans to offer a plug in electric car that you don't have to plug in. you drive into your garage, you park over a plate on the floor and the infinity lewill automatically charge itself. the electric car expected to hit dealerships in 2014. >> do we have a price point on that? >> they are really pushing the envelope in terms of this technology i don't like those pads you can put your cell phones on. reminding parents not to leave children in the car on a hot day. it is not really going to be very hot today. highs in the lower 80s.

70 degrees. welcome back. i'm going to start with the good news first. if you are planning to head south on i-27 0, things look great, you have the slow stretch into clarksburg, and that is about it. let's take a live look outside. if you are planning to head over on the southbound side of i-27 0, things look fine. this is fine as well as you head inbound toward new york avenue. this time 66 on the dulles toll road, no problems to report out of sterling. you have the slow stretch in centerville and here as you travel through the fairfax area. we'll now take a live look at the northbound side of i-95.

a pedestrian struck on the interstate. lacking like this, basically off and on from woodbridge into springfield and 395 southbound there is an accident on the ramp to southbound 395 causing an early merge as well. back with traffic at 6:58. olga breese is here and we have rain, we had rain yesterday. does that mean we are reducing our drought factor. we had some pockets of heavy rain. overall i think a lot of us did miss out. overnight showers came through, there is a lull right now, but around about your lunch break we'll see more moisture move on through so have the umbrella ready. you can see overcast skies around the capital building and yes the moisture is here.

humidity values are fairly high this morning. we'll make it into the lower 80s by 3:00 to 4:00. then we'll see showers and storms begin to develop. that means late day showers and storms will bring us cooler temperatures in the afternoon. bus stop forecast you want to make sure the kids have umbrellas because later on this afternoon, that is when we'll have the opportunity for the showers and storms. but the morning temperatures are quite comfortable. visibility has been low in spots, the patchy fog by the 9:00, 10:00 hour we should all be in the clear. scattered showers throughout the day, an umbrella is necessary for later on in the afternoon. a warm-up on the way in the 7-day outlook. doppler radar, not too much action. a few pops of showers south and
