soon. >> absolutely had pride in what he did. >> reporter: 24-year-old kenneth mitchell, the first suspect arrested in connection with officer morris' death is scheduled to make his first court appearance sometime later today. matt jablow, 9news now. in washington state, police have arrested a man after he allegedly threatened president obama. a secret service spokesman says the 31-year-old e-mailed threats against the president. when police arrived at his home in federal way, washington, he reportedly charged at them at the door carrying a shotgun, ammunition and a pistol. investigators say while he was being arrested he made remarks suggesting explosives were in the house. police searched the home but couldn't find any explosives. a crofton, maryland man accused of threatening to shoot up his workplace has been released from custody. 28-year-old neil prescott was transferred from a psychiatric facility to his parents' home. he was ordered to keep taking

medication and attend counseling while he awaits arraignment. crews have been workingor the clock trying to clear the railroad tracks after a deadly train derailment in ellicott city. >> there are still many unanswered questions. ken molestina has more. >> reporter: crews continue to work to clean up the mess left behind by this train derailment. handful of workers could be seen up and down the tracks. people from around the area have been pouring in throughout the evening to get a look at it for themselves. >> we only live a couple miles from here. we just wanted to see it for ourselves, see how bad it was. >> i knew it was bad and i heard where it was right by the streets. >> reporter: one of the reasons why the cleanup effort will take so long, you can see large pieces of debris. in this case a rail car that's been flipped over. these thanks weigh tons and crews are removing them slowly little by little. elizabeth nass and rose luis

mayr, both 19 years old, were killed when the train derailed. they posted this picture moments before it happened where they're seen on a nearby bridge. officials don't know if the teen's presence near the tracks may have led the conductor to slam on the brakes. they will only say a broken airline caused the trig gler they indicate they saw nothing before an emergency brake occurred in the train. >> reporter: the train was traveling at 25 miles per hour. a data recorder was recovered and investigators are in the process of downloading the information to learn more about the steps. meanwhile these ellicott city residents are left with heavy hearts over the two teens killed here. >> it's a sad situation that they go were there at that time. why they were up there i have no idea, you know. kids will be kids. >> reporter: the ntsb says they

hope to have all that information from the data recorded downloaded by wednesday. at that point we expect to hear a lot more and learn more details about this derailment. we're in ellicott city, ken molestina now. >> it's also interrupting verizon and enter nept service rylain ma. the company says the crash damaged some of its facilities and that's affecting its land line services. verizon has restored some customers by rerouting services but can't completely fix the problem until crews are allowed to get to their damaged equipment. a decorated soldier from maryland has died in afghanistan. sar went david -- owe sergeant david williams died saturday in kandahar. there's no word he died. that is under investigation. america's top military officer in afghanistan is safe after an attack on his plane. general martin dempsey was sleeping at the air base north of kabul when rockets hit the

this comes after stocks had an across-the-board sellout. checking the numbers the dow stands at 12,203. let's take that 13,000. the nasdaq slipped by 9 and the s&p 500 was down by about 5 minutes. a fight between apple and samsung is now in the hands of a jury. apple is accusing samsung of copying its iphone and ipad technology. it wants samsung to pay $2.5 billion and pull its smartphones and tablets of the u.s. market. samsung claims apple has been using its tech knoll and seeking -- technology and seeking damages of its own. one of facebook's earliest and largest investors has cashed out. he sold the bulk of his stake in the social network. last week was the first time some insiders were allowed to

share their -- sell their shares. consumers, are you willing to pay more than $300 for a pair of sneakers? >> no. >> nike thinks so. good morning. welcome back to 9news now. we're mid week. we've got howard back. all is right with the world including his forecast. >> it's going to be a pretty day similar to the last couple of days with mid-#s on and the ice -- mid-80s and the isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. the pattern isn't going to change much the next few days although i do think we'll get a little warmer, maybe hotter as we head toward the weekend. here's a look at the bus stop forecast. school is back in session for some. the children anxiously awaiting next week when some others return. temps in the cool spots have dipped into the upper 50s this morning. by the way here in town, we're still 70, 72. sunrise not till about 6:29. i've got patchy fog because areas from orange or if you're traveling south out of fredricksburg even toward richmond, you're going to run into some of those areas of fog. there's luray at 59.

cumberland 57. very comfortable this morning with 71 here in d.c. 67 down south at the pax river naval air station. bill in newland was 63. bowie 64 in prince frederick. 65 degrees. officially 71 at reagan national. still dark and partly cloudy on our michael & son weather camera. humidity at 78%. the winds this morning nice and light. they are reported calm. high pressure in the middle of the country so some nice weather here. very unsettled from florida across much of the coastal areas here from georgia up through the carolinas. a frontal boundary here. for us we're getting just enough instability with the front nearby that we've been popping these isolated showers. had some overnight that came out of west virginia, out toward loudoun county until they really fell apart. other than partly cloudy conditions, it is a quiet morning out there. can't rule out a stray shower or two. as we get to the middle of the day, still looks all right. watch in the afternoon.

we're going to pop these bubbles of green so the isolated showers here and there. lose the daytime heating. really diminished that shower threat overnight. tomorrow afternoon again maybe a stray shower will pop here or there. i think rain chances tomorrow even lighter than today. then again on friday afternoon we're likely to pop a few showers and storms in spots. we're also watching the tropics. not only do we have isaac here which is getting better organized, a little tough to see behind our bar here, but there's probably tropical depression 10 right behind it. that would be helene but isaac will be more of an immediate threat to the leeward islands. you can see it to the west. this is strengthening here. still a tropical storm. the latest advisory, winds of 40 miles an hour gusting to 50 moving west at 18 miles an hour. we'll get another update in the next few minutes but looks like it's going to be nearby guadalupe by wednesday evening. winds 50 if not stronger.

then it's going to move toward the northern caribbean sea. south of puerto rico potentially as a hurricane. all eyes will be on haiti and the dom minnick republic -- dominican republic. how strong will isaac be as he heads toward south florida potentially early next week. so we really will watch isaac very carefully. next three days mid-80s today. the isolated storm today. even tomorrow. i guess there's a stray storm possible but rain chances maybe 10%, 20%, 87. still decent on friday 88 with the isolated storm. over the weekend upper #s on to around 9 -- 80s to around 90. monday and tuesday. better chance of storms by tuesday. we may be talking about isaac's rep nantz sometime the middle to latter part of next week. 4:48. let's go over to monika. good morning, everybody. i'm happy to say the construction on the west side of town is in stages but it's

still left slow traffic for you especially between tysons corner and 66 on the west side of the beltway. keep that in mind. let's go out live right now and show you what it looks like. 270, on the southbound side, all of your lanes are open leaving 70 down to clarksburg and the point where the lanes divide and a live look at shady grove road. you can see it's nice and light here. route 355, great seneca highway all look pretty much the same. i'll be back in a few minutes with traffic at 4:55. but first, d.c. cab drivers may soon be required to pay for the installation of new smart meters inside their cabs. the d.c. taxicab commission has sent a notice to drivers that they may have to pay the $500 cost for the meter. the district had a $1.3 million deal in place to pay those costs but last week councilman marrian barry filed a
