right now it's about 250 miles east. we'll start with the satellite picture and you can see it here though. we have two storms, right here for your screen and then we have isaac. and that is the one we're going to concentrate unnervely. again, not a huge storm. the movement is west of 16 and winds are 40 miles per hour. right now we're looking at hurricane warnings in effect for the coast, the southern coast of the d.r. and also all the coasts of haiti, a watch here for them. notice these lines. remember we had a few to the east of florida? okay now everything is either south florida or miami or points west. so a little more for you. but here is the track, just brand new. at least at 5:00. it does take you on through a commute a little further to the south and the west and then it will take you through the key west, at least through the keys and then off the coast of florida. so let's say that they will take that exact track. it won't be a tremendous deal.

the ground bolted out as soon as it started shaking. the quake left cracks in the monumentnd closed ever since. >> you saw some of the people repelling down the side, doing some of the assessment and the repairs. but through the whole thing, it was in mineral, virginia. the shaking there was so strong that two schools were left damaged beyond repair. >> and that has been demolished and the new building is going up soon. at least at the county airport, they will also be taken down and rebuilt. but today our peggy fox got a firsthand look at the schools in session already, but still in transition. >> here we are one year ago and coincidentally demolition had just started here at the high school. the students have all gotten used to the temporary buildings in front of the school. >> we'll find this exact point where it ends with that. >> it sounds like the beginning of the school, but it does not look like it from the outside.

many things to be grateful for in the very first day when you had no death or severe injuries. >> reporter: they should be severe, barring any natural disaster and the new building will take about three years to construct. i'm peggy fox, 9news now. >> and not everybody is getting help to rebuild after that quake. coming up at 6:00, we'll be talking to o -- to a very busy building here worldwide. now, they said that they turned their movie back here and announced that they received a generous $5 million to restore the damage sustained there in the quake. and that money will go to repairing the stone work and that either fell, crumbled, or cracked in the central power, which is the highest point in the nation's capitol. and today, they hoisted the first restored piece of something called a stone on top of the cathedral. >> and we're hired than the

washington monument. we're a little higher off the top of the monument right now. so you know, the symbolism of the site and the national cathedral and we're going to put it back together. >> reporter: the $20 million repair is expected to take 10 years and the cathedral has received nearly $8 million so far, which includes today's donations. we talked to some people today and asked them if they remember where they were when the place struck one year ago. >> and i was sitting in my car and i felt somebody jump on the back of the car and shake it. and i looked behind me and i was like where did they go? and about three hours later, i found out that it was an earthquake. >> i was kind of sitting in my bed as i felt things start to rattle. do you really know what it is because you are from massachusetts and we don't have earthquakes there. it took me a little bit to figure out it and i looked across the window and i saw it warping as it occurred to me, maybe i hit an earthquake. >> yeah, we don't have

earthquakes here either. at least we didn't think. and that did hit a glaring message for the local disasters. and that is if anything like this ever happens again, we do need to know what to do when the ground will start to shake. >> a lot of folks chose it at that point to go home at that day. and come to find out like y other event to go back there like this, so does everyone else. >> reporter: hitting the road is just one of the things that we got wrong in the aftermath of last year's rare east coast earthquake. another thing we did wrong. we just stood still. >> the east coast residents, they don't know what to do in an earthquake. >> reporter: when the ground starts to rumble, drop, cover, and hold on. and that is drop to your knees, take cover under a hard surface, and hold on until the shaking stops. >> in fact when i talked to people after the earthquake, people said to me, i didn't know what it was. i thought we were on out here.

or i thought there was a helicopter landing on my building. and so this is the reason why we are supporting the idea of a great shakeout. >> reporter: the great shakeout on october 18 will be the largest earthquake drill in u.s. history, at least 50 states are taking part, including d.c., maryland, and virginia. >> and we have a danger, an earthquake in the mobile hazards as we need to become more and more informed about it. you know, we cannot predict when they occur, we cannot determine the size or the magnitude, but you can at least prepare for them. >> and we can at least prepare for them. keep in mind that october 18 will be the first time for the d.c., maryland, and virginia to take part in one of these shake- out grills, but it's on the west coast part for years. two college students killed in the city train derailment, they died from affixuation. both the teenagers were sitting

in the railroad bridge at the time. now, both the counties and them are looking into ways overtightening security around the tracks. in the meantime, clean up crews are still on the scene of the historic view this evening. and now there will be a moment of silence held at saturday's redskins game for prince george's county police officer. and he died during a high-speed chase on monday and tonight police are still looking for the driver believed to be involved in that pursuit. and he is identified as the 23- year-old. meanwhile funeral arrangements have been announced for them. and a viewing will take place on monday, august 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. that's at the funeral home in maryland. the funeral services will be held next tuesday at wood stream church in mitchellville, maryland. sky 9 flew or a terrible accident today involving a teen on a bicycle. the 15-year-old nicole polland

was struck by a car in gaithersburg. investigators say she was wearing a helmet and she was in the crosswalk, but they said that she was crossing against the light. a friend with them were not hurt and they said that they hit that there and stayed at the scene. route 121 was shut down for hours. investigators are trying to find out what caused two boats to go up in flames as it happened in the middle of the night at the south river marina on turkey point road. almost 50 firefighters were called to the scene and it took more than an hour to put out the fires. the good news, no one was hurt. this morning's fire followed last night's collision on the river in pasadena and nine people, including maryland state delegate and five kids were hurt. tonight, that state delegate is being tested for alcohol. scott broom joins us live with the latest on that investigation. scott, what do we know so far

tonight? >> reporter: well in fact, he has just admitted to reporters from the hospital where he is hospitalized in baltimore that he was in ct drinking when the boat accident happened last night. he told those reporters that he is sorry for the incident. that he is in fair condition tonight in the hospital at baltimore after this terrible boat accident on the river near pasadena. police said that he was at the helm of the power boat when there was a collision with an 18-foot bay liner with three kids sitting upfront and two being towed in a tube behind. >> and it happened right out here, probably about 250 yards. >> reporter: he was among a small view of the neighbors who immediately headed on out of the water to rescue everyone involved. and there were a lot of injuries. >> yeah, they were pretty shaken up for some of those people that you had to face lacerations with a neck injury. one of them had a fractured skull. >> reporter: in all there were five kids and two adults rescued from the bay liner that

went to three hospitals with injuries ranging from bruises to broken bones. they were rescued from the baja and their boat sank in shallow water with evidence of being crushed near the rear. >> there was some concern that alcohol was involved. >> reporter: today, the police captain said that evidence at the scene lead them to draw blood to test for alcohol. and no one else was tested. >> any time that you have suspicion that alcohol is involved in had the accident, it will be a serious accident. we're actually going to, you know, draw blood. that we're going to have a blood kit done. and that was the case last night. >> reporter: results are pending. he has not been charged. he did not reveal what lead officers to suspect alcohol. >> reporter: now natural sources told me that they have no idea who might have been at fault in this crash and that the blood test results are coming back from 30 to 60 days.

the university records of the accused colorado movie theater shooting are at the center of the court fight tonight. whether or not 100 pages of their studies should be turned over to prosecutors. he's charged with killing 12 people and wounding 68 others in front of the aurora theater. his attorney said that the school records are subject to student privacy laws. prosecutors say that the records could help them make their case that a notebook home sent to a university

had no right to do that. the officer was fired and now facing criminal battery charges. that motorist is accused of driving under the influence among other things. we've got dramatic video of the other little girl's very close call. >> reporter: it happened in china. they captured the incident after falling from a motorbike as her head appears just inches away from being ushecrfrom the rear wheel of the car. the other people on the bike quickly scoop her up. incredibly she narrowly escaped with cuts and bruises. >> yes. flames lit up the nighttime sky. this isa damaged tanker that was involved in a multi-vehicle accident. and now in addition to what you might imagine was a real traffic nightmare that there was a big oil spill. they went to get rid of the exemely flammable gas. all of this was going on. and still ahead, it's not

a follow up on the deadly outbreak of the super bug at the clinical center. and that will be an infection for you. and eight people will be trying to come down and a third of them will die. and at the center for the disease control and the super bug. and that will be in our newsroom. that will be here for them last year and no one in the public knew about it until a case of the history of the outbreak was there. >> and that will be the investigation, which will take some time. but i think that the information needs to get out quickly. and i think that the information will also need to be accurate. so some of this is about the time that it requires to pin one of them down. that's the sad thing here for them. and they need to include the yellow that happened all the time.

the challenge is figuring out how that will be related when it is -- when it is spread with a hospital will be job number one. >> is there a move to make these infections like that and all these infections? is there a move to make them reported illnesses? >> yes. so this is an area where there is a lot of progress as we're about to go live with a reporting system to allow the health care facilities to track and report that. those of the first two that will be steadedly adding more to it. they are trying to track it. and they need to publish it yesterday and the stamping out here at the hospital was the key activity. it is something that you want all of them there. and the participation. that will be in the facility. >> will any time you're receiving care, even though it

the tropical-storm forced winds. high temperature is 89 today. dew points are still very comfortable in the low 60s. humidity in the 46% range. that's nice, take a walk. that's a good deal. they are live here. i zoomed in a little bit with the showers and storms. primarily on the west side as they are not moving very fast. that's the rainfall rates between half and an inch per hour. temperatures were in great shape. i mean how nice is that? a strong finish for the weekend that will be going downhill

[ laughter ] >> yes. that's when we asked them when where they were as they were chilling at the beach somewhere. they couldn't get more than two words on out this afternoon before the emotions took over as he will be playing in the nfl in 2010. when it came time to hit that field again, his heart was not in it as it did not feel right for them to play anyone other than the redskins. >> even if i were there to play redskins, i would still need to retire because, you know, that's the way to do it that i needed to leave there for the field. and that i left here. and for the experiences that we needed to go through the organization. and i could never call myself or anything else like that and, you know, beside the redskins. >> i'm glad that people could

relate to me as more than a ballplayer that you can relate to that and have a sense of humor. even the seat that i will get will be emotional as we need to wear my heart on the sleeves. and it will be nice to be able to relate as i hope that people will feel it as they have an opportunity to know me that they have an opportunity to watch me grow on up as they have an opportunity to learn who i was. >> the last season you played was 2010. what was your decision behind that and deciding that it was the right option for you? >> i mean, you know, i was honestly, you know, making up the decision here. but it was the lockout recovering. the desire to play was gone.

i had so many opportunities to move out in life that i would love to do that, the radio, tv, just to help with the washington redskins. i would love that. >> reporter: so i figured that i was a little inspired by them to give you a taste. we'll have more. plus i spoke to his very proud mother who could take me seriously. you'll hear from them as well. cooing up later on in sports. >> now what are we going to call her now? >> hot sames. >> oh. odd-looking creature. but they learned that the camel does live in his own wooded hut. animal welfare workers said it is unusual, but not illegal as long as the owner has the permission of state fish and game and an exotic animal license. we never saw the camel this night. >> i'm in pure amazement all week last tuesday evening. in pittsburgh, linda eye. >> yes. not so much california or any of north america for that matter.
