of his tour de france titles. after the break an expert weighs in on the psychology of sports doping. we'll talk about it.

7:16 pm
i saw it in his refrigerator, you know. i saw him inject it. >> a dark time right now in the world of cycling. the u.s. anti-doping agency stripped lance armstrong of his seven tour de france titles. this move comes after armstrong has said he will no longer
7:17 pm
fight the charges against him. on his website he write there comes a point in of man's life when he has to say enough is enough. for me that time is now. joining us now with more on cycling doping scandal is anatonia balm with sport psychiatry. knowing what you know about men who are as exeat give as lance armstrong is does it -- as competitive as lance armstrong is does it surprise you he wouldn't fight to his death to clear his name. >> it surprises me that he wouldn't. >> does it surprise you that he stopped fighting and gave up? >> except that part of your mind asks yourself is it because there's something to hide? maybe. i don't pretend to know exactly what his situation is. i just think that it's a sad thing that sport has gotten to the level where -- sports has gotten to the level where if you want to be competitive, you're going to have to dope to be competitive. it's understandable but
7:18 pm
regretful. >> why do you think people do it? we all claim that we hate to see cheaters and so on, but guys do it all the time. >> because they want to win. there's that athletic ethos and one way it's you want to win because you can do it naturally, but it's just where things are. >> right. you believe that it's sad that it's gotten to this point, but couldn't you argue that it's always been at this point, that in ancient times guys were looking for ways, girls, whatever, looking for ways to get stronger faster and beat their opponent? >> i think that's true, but as a purist about sports, i just think it's too bad that the human body isn't enough. >> have we lost our innocence when it comes to these sorts of things at this point? has it happened so much now that nobody is surprised anymore? >> i think so. i know that sounds cynical, but yes, i think so.
7:19 pm
>> thank you so much for coming in. we appreciate your time tonight. >> we've got a yellow weather alert in effect for tomorrow. topper will be here to tell us what we can expect this weekend. i take it it's not going to be very nice. >> not exactly a chamber of commerce weekend. we're looking at a lot of showers and thunderstorms. first i want to talk about isaac and the track. it's going to hammer much of haiti with heavy rain, not so much wind. each line represents a track, a computer model where it thinks it's going to go and everyone is pretty much in agreement going on the west side of florida and curving it back around. it gets close to us next week witness, but stays pretty much to our south which is unfortunate because we need the rainfall. good news is they need the rainfall in parts of the southeast and they will get. it winds are 65 miles per hour on the official track, about 100 miles south, southeast of port-au-prince. it's turned a bit north and
7:20 pm
will weaken over cuba because of the mountains and regenerate in the eastern gulf of mexico. by monday category 1 southwest of tampa and tuesday it's already north of tampa with winds of 85 miles per hour making landfall across maybe east of pensacola. that's a little bit uncertain. we talk about landfall five days away, we're in trouble, but you get the point where it's going to be offshore. i think tampa will be fine. the biggest threat will be rainfall. maybe they get 39, 40 mile-per- hour winds, but the burling of the wind stay offshore. right -- bulk of the winds stay offshore. right now 81, dew points coming up, winds out of the west out of the south -- out of the south at 8. here's our neck system, a little area of -- next system, a little area of low pressure that will form along this boundary and move northward. computer models are in disagreement as to how much rain we get in the metro, but if you are east of 95 you'll be
7:21 pm
in the bull's eye of the rainfall, so significant rain coming to anne arundel, calvert and atmosphere marys county and our friends in the delmarva -- and st. mary's county and our friends in the delmarva. i think the bulk of the rain arrives tomorrow afternoon, might be able to get that morning tee time in tomorrow morning, do some gardening. next three days code yellow, 79 with showers and storms, 83 on sunday with showers and storms, a little better on monday, near 90, just an isolated thunderstorm possible. next seven days on tuesday isolated storm possible as well and then, well, actually not so bad. we're looking at temperatures in the mid-80s wednesday. there's that cloud, isaac, wave good-bye to isaac, and heating up next friday, derek. we could be back in the mid- 90s. >> i'll believe it when i see it, the 90s. we'll be back in a minute.

a verdict just deliver in the apple versus samsung lawsuit involving patent infringement on smartphone 10. samsung has been ordered to pay apple 1.5 billion with a b dollars. apple had asked for 2.5 billion. we'll have a wrap on the story at news at 11:00. in the mailbag tonight lance armstrong entertained so many of us with his exploits on the bike. he won seven tours defrance, amazing, but tonight apparently it's all over. he's been stripped of those titles for doping, cheating in other words. howard from germantown is not buying. it hans is and always will be a hero -- lance is and always will be a hero, a great cyclist. the usada only have hearsay evidence. where's the evidence? let them lay all their cards on the table. otherwise it's a witch hunt. lance has to be the most tested cyclist in history and he was clean. i find it hard to believe that
7:26 pm
he alone has discovered a performance enhancing drug that disappears during the race. can't overestimate what lance did for people who have cancer and i cannot overestimate how much we all enjoyed watching him do what he did for the sport of cycling. however, what i find hard to believe is that during cycling's doping era when there were dozens of top name guys eventually implicated or suspended armstrong was not only beating them but demolishing and embarrassing them and he was doing all that clean? i just don't see how that's physically possible. in fact, one of the problems with stripping armstrong of his tour titles is several of the second and third place finishers have battled their own doping allegations or even admitted they cheated. look, i spent countless hours on my couch watching lance armstrong, rooting for him, loving him, but let's be real. while perhaps there is no fire, the smoke around the doping allegations is too thick to ignore. i'll never ignore your e-mails. the address is
