blowing north to the gulf coast. the storm is on course to hit land somewhere between new orleans and the florida panhandle wednesday, the seventh anniversary of hurricane katrina. in florida the storm threatened to wash away scott anderson's crab fishing business. but the $10,000 worth of traps stayed intact. along key west, shops remained boarded up the loss for business owners was a gain for surfers. >> isaac was a bit of a tourist action in key west. local piers were flooded with onlookers. >> we weren't able to leave so we have been enjoying it ever since. >> reporter: jacquelyn foster and amelia king flew in from

west virginia for a bachelorette party that was supposed to end sunday. isaac's winds canceled their flight but didn't ruin their trip. >> it isn't even raining that hard or anything like that. i thought it could be a lot worse. >> reporter: but forecasters warn isaac's winds could get much worse this week. cbs news, key largo, florida. >> the gulf coast has not been hit since 2008. back then dolly, ike and gustav all struck the region at the same time. contractors are headed south to get ready to help from the recover i efforts from isaac. crews are going to wait to see exactly where the storm lands before they know where to go. isaac has already caused the republican party to cancel the first day of the republican

national convention. today the chairman of the gop will officially open the session. >> florida governor rick scott has canceled his appearance. louisiana governor bobby jindal hasn't canceled yet but does say he is not going to leave his state while it is being threatened by isaac. susan mcginniss has more. >> reporter: the party has started in tampa. thousands showed up, it was the first official event on the schedule. >> i have to get out of here, there is a hurricane. >> reporter: tropical storm isaac is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain to the area today. because of that the convention will be gaveled into session and adjourned minutes later. >> you can't be assured what would happen if you had a full arena and could be get people out of here. >> reporter: most delegates agree with the decision and

to register women to vote. the big pink bus you see there is leaving arlington and richmond, virginia today. later it will roll on to ohio. mitt romney and others are on record as opposing federal funding when it comes to planned parent hood because abortions are performed at their clinics. thousands of mourners are expected to attend funeral events today for adrian morris. morris was killed during a high speed chase last week. he and a second officer were pursuing two men suspected of stealing items out of vehicles at a gas station. 24-year-old kenneth mitchell jr. and 23-year-old kenneth neil are both in custody and are charged with felony theft. a viewing for officer morris is scheduled from 2:00 to 4:00 this afternoon and again this evening from 7:00 until 9:00. morris' funeral is scheduled to

begin tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. in mitchellville. he will be laid to rest at lakemont memorial gardens. you can expect rolling street closures will be in place around the funeral procession and the closures could last for up to half an hour. a 35-year-old fort washington man is charged with murder after turning himself in to prince georges county police. james howard brady is charged with the death of trevor johnson. the suspect shot johnson after discovering him in the home of his ex-girlfriend earlier this month. today workers in baltimore are going to cover a sinkhole with metal plates and then become evaluating the safety of the buildings near the hole. heavy rain is being blamed for the hole, which opened up on east monument street in the 2300 block. a number of residents were forced to leave their homes

second quarter. the federal reserve will give its latest assessment on the economy when it releases its report. the main event for investors is friday, when the federal reserve chair ben bernancke addresses the central bankers in wyoming and he is expected to discuss the fed's plans when it comes to stimulating the economy. stocks rallied friday, the dow jumped 100 points. nasdaq picked up 16, s & p 500 was up a little bit over nine points. the economic recovery hasn't felt very much like one for those who have managed to find new jobs. the labor department says 56% of americans laid off from 2009 to 2011 had found jobs by the start of this year. more than half took a job at lower pay. one-third took pay cuts of 20% or more. the housing market has been showing signs of improvement, albeit slow. results show reports of new and existing homes. expect the latest on home prices as well and the number of

americans who signed a contract last month. we'll see what those numbers are like. samsung officials say they plan to appeal last week's verdict. the company was found guilty of stealing technology from apple. apple originally filed a lawsuit of accusing samsung of stealing patent information. the jury ordered samsung to pay more than $1 billion in penalties. the award is well below the $2.5 billion apple was asking for in the case. apple immediately asked the judge to order samsung products off the market. that will not happen until another court hearing which is coming up next month. botox has become routine for thoses of women. >> we have more on that story plus your weather first, when we come back.

plans changed for vacation now. >> might not be the best week to go to louisiana. >> we'll start with isaac this is going to be the big weather story for the next few days. tropical storm now hurricane likely to be. when katrina hit, it was a category 3 storm when it hit. but it had been a category 5. so it had all that time to build up a storm surge and have a big, large wind field. this is not like katrina, where yes it may hit new orleans but it is not like katrina. the colder cloud tops are the darker colors. the radar perspective on this, you can clearly see the center of circulation right there as it is moving wees northwest with a heavy rain band still across much of central florida. winds on the 2:00 advisory were 65 gusting to 75. don't know if it is going to be a hurricane at 8:00, it may be

up to 70 or holding 65 but we'll watch it nonetheless. the latest track has it by tuesday evening, a category 2, strong one, 100 miles per hour storm just on the other side of the mississippi river. great fishing down here, this is a really cool place. with this track the water gets pushed along the gulf coast and into lake pontchartrain. it is seven years laters, the levees are a lot stronger and the pumps are a lot better. this is not katrina but clearly, it should not be taken lightly. on that track by the mississippi gulf coast is wide open to take a pounding also. our bus stop forecast here in the washington metro on this monday morning, patchy fog, a few showers mainly east of town. 60s and 70s, sunrise not until 6:33. our day planner, we are going to get into sunshine this afternoon. by noon 82 degrees. winds south 5 to 10.

fairfax and the beltway. around tree and mike? breast cancer patients who are obese or just overweight may have a higher risk of recurrence of the most common type of the disease. a new study in the journal of cancer show obesity is associated with a 30% risk of cancer returning and a 50% higher risk of death. the findings suggest extra body fat causes hormonal changes and inflammation which could fuel some cancers. new evidence shows the health benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks for newborn boys. however the benefits are not enough for doctors to routinely recommend it to all boys. the academy of pediatrics says the decision should be made by parents and their doctors.

researchers show the risk of circumcision include lower risk of disease. the american pediatrics is putting out new guidelines when it comes to children and sleep disorders. they are recommending all children who snore regularly be trusted for sleep apnea. it can lead to developmental delays if left untreated. the new school year has lawmakers calling for the government to crack down on toxic school supplies. a survey of 20 common school supplies by the center found some school splays carry a toxic chemical. -- supplies carry a toxic chemical. >> why, for instance, would you ban it in a spiderman action toy, but not in a spiderman
