involving prostitutes. according to the "washington post," two of the boys have left school, two others are facing expulsion, and the fifth boy had a disciplinary hearing this morning. our kristin fisher spoke with the principal. >> the school community is saddened and hud by the actions of -- hurt by the actions of these few. >> reporter: the principal won't take questions or talk details. he refers to what happened last weekend only as the incident referred to in the newspaper. according to the "washington post" after an away game in north carolina, five players hired prostitutes from a call service. some even engaged in sexual activities with the prostitutes in their hotel rooms. >> the school first learned of it on tuesday afternoon and began an investigation. >> reporter: now if first question a lot of peoplehave was where were the chaperones? there were 16 for 65 players the principal says but he says they brought prostitutes in after the last call check at 4:00 in the morning.

oaks riding academy. the aspiring first lady from the republican national convention in tampa last week. she says that she wants to spread a message of fiscal conservativism to women. after today's event, she will have an interview with 9news now anchor anita brikman and you can hear the full interview tonight on 9news now at 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. with the conventions over president obama and gop nominee mitt romney are on the campaign trail today. tara mergener reports that both candidates are spinning the latest jobs report in an attempt to win voters. >> reporter: president obama wanted to hit the campaign trail this morning with momentum from the democratic convention but the latest jobs report is stealing his thunder. the numbers show employers added fewer workers than expected last month. the president acknowledged more work needs to be done and his acceptance speech last night. >> you didn't elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear,

[ cheering and applause ] and the truth is it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. >> reporter: the obama administration says that today's unemployment report shows the u.s. economy is beginning to question overfrom the worst -- recover from the worst downturn since the great depression. but mitt romney is slamming the president on the numbers. he says it's clear his policies aren't working and that he hasn't lived up to his promises. >> i saw the promises last time. those are promises he did not keep d the american people deserve to know why he did not keep his promises. >> reporter: both candidates are holding rallies in iowa and new hampshire today and both expected the talk about why they're the right choice to get the economy back on track. tara mergener for cbs news, the white house. >> vice president joe biden will join president obama today at his rallies. gop running mate paul ryan is focusing on nevada. well, election day is two

months away. but the deadline to register to vote is getting close. in the district, you have until october 9th to register. in virginia, you have until october 15th. in maryland and west virginia, the deadline is october 16th. deadlines for absentee and early voting are different in each state. well, today a judge is expected to sentence a former northern virginia political leader to prison. in may, a jury convicted michael gardener of sex charges involving two young girls at his daughter's slumber party. the jury recommended a 22 year sentence. during the trial, prosecutors showed evidence that his dna was on one victim's underwear and another victim's pajamas. gardener has denied any wrongdoing. he is the husband of falls church city councilwoman robin gardner. a suspected motorcycle thief is recovering in the hospital after he was shot by

police. prince george's county police shut down the intersection of county road and foster street in district heights late last night. authorities say the officers shot calvin kyle as he tried to flee. the bullet struck him in the back. right now there's no word on his condition and that incident is being investigated. the 83-year-old woman who was attacked by a rabid beaver is home from the hospital and she's telling her story. lilian peter sovereign went for a -- petterson went for a swim in falls church tuesday night. she fought back when the 35- pound beaver ambushed her she says. >> then he grabbed ahold of my leg and started chewing on me and i started to try to pound him with my other leg and i grabbed my walking stick which i had with me. and i kept pounding him with that. and i kept aiming at his eyes. >> peterson is taking rabies shots and doctors say she is

prince what arely is going back to afghanistan -- harry is going back to afghanistan. his four month deployments comes just a few weeks after nude photos of the prince made headlines, monica villamizar reports that the pictures and his recent deployment are not connected. >> reporter: prince harry inspected one of the attack helicopters he'll fly in afghanistan during a four month tour of duty. he'll be on a mission to fight the taliban. he will sit in the front seat

firing missiles on enemy positions. >> i've done it once and i feel as though i should get the opportunity to do it again. >> reporter: the opportunity comes two beaks after the prince was caught on camera naked. his army superior reportedly told him off for his bad behavior. harry's comrades say it's time to let the prince focus on the mission. >> he'll be in difficult and demanding job and i and that he left to be get on with his duties. >> reporter: despite the status he should be treated like everybody else in the military. >> i've done my training, it's cost the army money to train me and if they didn't think they can get me out there then they wouldn't have put me through the training. >> reporter: it was kept secret in 2007 until the press blew his cover. >> so disappointed. >> referee: this time the army said announcing the prince's

montgomery county leads maryland in the number of school bus stop violations. in one day the department of education says 494 drivers ignored the stop arm of school buses. so montgomery county has installed cameras on a number of buses in order to catch violators. in frederick county, maryland, ten school buses are now equipped the cameras, our greg guise shows us how they work and they're designed to protect our youngsters. >> reporter: bus driver jody jackson sees dangerous behavior every day. >> it does scare me. >> reporter: but not open the bus, on the road. >> just last week i had at one of my stops four cars went through. >> the self-contained unit right here where we have a camera facing the front. >> reporter: now, in frederick county, maryland, cameras like these are side mounded on ten buses. ready to record the license and other data of any vehicle that doesn't come to a complete stop. >> a child has nothing to

>> excitement too. a little -- little brawl broke out at the baseball game. >> i know, i thought i wasat a hockey game for while. >> we had no problems today. tomorrow though, tomorrow is going to be a little difficult at times in the afternoon and evening and then we're going to get a nice air mass to move in sunday through like wednesday, thursday of next week. we're going to have a great stretch soft weather coming. here's a look at the day planner for the rest of this friday. and temperatures will be climbing into the upper 80s in fact low 90s as we approach the mid and latter parts of the afternoon. i think we stay sunny. if anybody sees their shower or storm today it's likely going to be in the western mountains and western maryland and eastern west virginia and those areas. going to be out this evening? they start the game just after 7:00. 84-degrees and by 9:00. 81. looks like a pretty nice night to be out. satellite and radar lots of sunshine here. we have some sea veer storms coming across parts of ohio and indiana with a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the afternoon. but temperatures under the sunshine, mid 80s many areas

like frederick at 86 and winchester. cumberland is 84. mid 80s in fredericksburg and 84 easton and cambridge and also here in d.c.. look at this michael & son weather camera shot. we are at tysons corner and looking out toward the northwest here. just a couple of fair weather clouds. that's it. a mostly sunny sky. 84 degrees but it feels like 88 because of the humidity. is still rather sticky out there. dew point 69 and humidity at 61%. but change is coming in good change is coming. look at these temperatures today. they'll be 100, 105 down in the southern plains. dallas 105 and the northern plains will be in the upper 60s in minneapolis and low 60s in marquette. chicago 75 and that's a cold front coming our way tomorrow afternoon. this afternoon here pushing across the twin cities look at the showers and the thunderstorms ahead of it. cooler air behind it and you know it was in the 40s the morning across parts of north dakota, montana even in the low 30s around yellow stone. well, we're not going to get that cold but we may squeak a

few upper 40s early next week in the outer suburbs. very quiet weather around here today. as we look at the futurecast, maybe an isolated storm in the mountain and then tomorrow is when we're going to have to watch it especially the afternoon and evening. here we are noon, saturday, showers and storms out to the west increasing in the afternoon. some of these by 5:00, 6:00, 7:00 could be strong to severe. and we are under a slight risk of severe weather by the way from the storm prediction center from northern north carolina. through new england damaging went gusts and the things get really energetic even the isolated tornado can't be ruled out. looking at the forecast, 91 today. it looks good this afternoon. maybe a storm in the mountains that's it. tonight, low 70 end zone town and youer 60s north and west. 87 tomorrow and watch out for potentially strong storms in the afternoon. breezy, cooler sunday. 79. and maybe a spotty shower. and then next week, monday pleasant 76 gorgeous. loots of 50s in the suburbs for lows in fact in the mid 80s by wednesday. stick around, we'll be right back in just a moment.
