power. christian fisher has the latest from falls church. >> reporter: we worked saturday and sunday. the sound of chainsaws echoed across this falls church neighborhood. not the most welcome sound on a monday morning, unless you are one of the unlucky homeowners who took a direct hit during saturday's storms. >> there is a tree behind the house and the top got sheared off. >> reporter: a big branch is still dangling on the edge of charlie moore's roof. storm took out about ten trees on his street, including one still covering the tennis courts. but this is a big improvement from two days ago. >> i couldn't drive in. all the power lines were down on the sidewalk, blocking the street. looks like a little microburst came through here. >> reporter: for three crews like aaa tree service they are on day three of near continuous clean up. >> sometimes we work through the night. we have to complete the job. >> reporter: this tree s all

on city property, but not anymore. you see this red line right here? the city of falls church told the homeowner they are only responsible for cleaning up that section of the trees, from the red line back to the roadway. everything else, all of this, that's up to the homeowner to clean up. >> it is kind of tiresome, but it is a job you know? and this is our line of work. the more our trees come down the better it is for us. >> reporter: kristen fisher, 9news now. almost all pepco customers are back online. the power company is reporting just over 70 outages and the majority are in the district of columbia. redskins fans are feeling good about thfuture. rg iii looked awesome in his nfl debut yesterday. the redskins picked up a win against the new orleans saints. the heisman winner threw for two touchdowns, 320 yards and not one interception. the redskins win 40-32.

the party conventions over the campaigns are focusing now on key states that could give them the edge on election day. danielle nottingham, that is the latest from the white house. >> reporter: president obama wrapped up a tour of florida and is now back at the white house with a fundraising win. for the first time in four months his campaign out raised mitt romney, collecting about $3 million more in august. the polls show a boost for the president from the democratic national convention. mitt romney will be in ohio today, a key battleground state. his campaign argues this election will come down to who can fix the economy and balance the budget. this weekend the republican nominee said the solution is not to raise taxes. >> the president's policies have meant that this economy is not growing as it should. the fastest way to balance our budget is to grow the economy, put more people to work, see

rising incomes. >> reporter: in an interview with cbs news, president obama says if he wins his second term, he will find rough compromise with republicans to cut the deficit and improve the economy. >> governor romney said he wouldn't take a deal with ten spending cuts for $1 of revenue increases. and the problem is the math or the arithmetic, as president clinton said, doesn't add up. >> reporter: the two candidates will soon get a chance to put their ideas head to head. three prime time debates are scheduled. danielle nottingham, cbs news, the white house. you can watch the interview with the president, it will air tonight on the cbs evening news. a juneter, florida motorcycle officer was killed while working the motorcade detail for president obama's visit to west palm beach. officials say bruce st. laurent was struck by a pickup truck as

he was attempting to close the road for the president's motorcade. medics rushed the officer to a nearby hospital. he later died. federal agents arrested the mayor of trenton, new jersey this morning. mayor tony mack is accused of using his influence in connection with a proposed parking garage project. court documents show the agents have been investigating mack and two others since 2010. authorities say the men received $54,000 in bribe money from a witness cooperating with investigators. tomorrow marks the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. one of the navy seals who led the assault to kill terrorist mastermind osama bin laden has written a become about exactly what happened. in an exclusive interview with 60 minutes, mark owen spoke about the training that went into the raid, and his

tomorrow is the eleventh anniversary of the terror attacks on the united states that killed nearly 3000 people. in new york, the memorial at the world trade center has been open for a year, but unfinished business continues to raise difficult questions. randall pinkston has more now, from new york. >> reporter: four and a half million people have come to visit the footprints of the twin towers. memorial president joe daniels says the response has been phenomenal. >> they step on this very ground, where all that tragedy took place, and they see it transformed into a place of beauty and inspiration. >> reporter: but the site is still a work in progress. a budget battle has delayed the opening of the museum.

curator january ma'am -- curator jan ramirez showed us what is there. >> reporter: firefighter david donated a helmet. the museum will have human remains from the world trade center. they are currently stored here with the new york medical examiner. >> there was a very strong push to bring them back to sacred bed rock. >> reporter: not all families agree. jim richards lost his son, a firefighter. richards believes the remains should be placed above ground. >> if they did bring the unidentified human remains up to memorial plaza, i think it would bring more respect and dignity. >> reporter: richards feels the plaza has become more of a

would love to hear from you on facebook. i'm jessica doyle, 9news now. there is a new crack down for truckers who park their rigs on the side of a busy maryland highway. maryland state police say interstate 83 has become an impromptu truck stop and they want the drivers to keep on trucking. drivers complain that many rest areas fill up too quickly, and they warn driving while drowsy can be as dangerous as driving while drunk. >> i 83 has that. >> can i say a special hello to george brown? he is in the hospital, love to you, thinking of you. and he is watching us. >> we hope you can watch from home real, real soon. hey, nice weather. >> real nice. boy did it drop though. >> the coolest day since june 7th, this morning. it was gorgeous out there and this nice dry cool air mass will be with us for a few days.

our rain chance will stay low through friday, maybe even into a little bit of the weekend. i have to tell you, the allergy update the grass and weed pollen is high. tree pollen is low. this afternoon it is a beauty, sunshine, fair weather clouds popping up, temperatures in the mid to upper 70s for highs. 78 in dc, brisk too. northwest winds 10 to 15, occasionally gusts toward 20. plans this evening, weather will not get in your way. by 9:00, we are down to 70. in the 50s tonight, even here in dc with potentially 40s north and west. we have clouds forming in pennsylvania, some of these could make it into northern maryland in a few hours. outside puffy clouds, look at these lows this morning, 50 in a couple of spots here. york 49, mid-40s out in the mountains and down toward the

valley. orange 55, manassas all the way down to 52. as of the noon hour, our temperatures are running in the upper 60s and low 70s. it is a gorgeous afternoon, annapolis 73, along with cambridge. 75 with leesburg. here's a look at tyson's corner. you see the puffy clouds forming out there today. 71 degrees, north winds at 1. you can tell by the dew point back in the upper 40s that the air has really dried out. that has given us the cool, crisp feel. we have temperatures today in the northeast in the 60s, 90s in the plains and looks like some of that will be moving in our direction. back in the 80s by the second half of the week. but our next front, still way out in the northern rockies. you see showers out ahead of it, it is not going to make it for awhile, the big area of high pressure will block the

weather. warm on the back side of the high, cool on the east side of the high. winds coming out of the north at a good pace. for us, not much change in our weather pattern over the next few days. i think that is a good thing. today 78, may hold in the mid 70s in many of the suburbs. partly to mostly sunny. tonight 50s, even upper 40s, high pressure builds in, i think tomorrow may be a better day because we'll have lighter winds, 7 in the afternoon, partly to mostly sunny. wednesday a little warmer, still great, 84. after starting in the 50s and low 60s. second half of the week thursday and friday, back around 85. over the weekend, that is when rain chances could increase just a hair saturday night into sunday. j.c. hayward, back to you. the district of columbia has the third highest rate of poverty in the country. a nonprofit organization is dedicating itself to break the cycle of poverty by educating

youngsters who live in some of the poorest parts of the city. today i'm saluting the perry school community services center. >> it was our first job, our first camp experience, like we have so many first things at perry school. >> jazz man and alexandra williams are remembering their time at perry school. a supplement mal- -- supplemental learning school. >> they always had something for us to do. that is something i remember, always something to do. if i didn't, i would be sitting at home, watching tv sh probably getting in trouble. >> reporter: the organization started in 1991, to help youngsters get a well rounded education, despite living in some of the most impoverished areas in the district. >> so they can get out of

poverty and get skills, get a better job, go to school, college, trade schools, things of that nature. >> reporter: omar carrington has been coming since he was five years old. he enjoys art. >> it teaches us about peace, nonviolence, ceasefire, martin luther king, nelson mandela, rosa's parks, frederick douglas, harriet tub man -- tubman. >> reporter: director cory pool says the district has proved, but the city's poor need guidance. >> once you build up a child's self esteem, they started being more confident. socially and academically, aspirations. so the changes are good. you know again once your mind believes it your body will do it. >> i'm happeny to say i serve
