lead in this second set. mary: novak djokovic had two big goals this year. he wanted to win the french open and he wanted to win olympic gold and he did neither. so you have to assume that he wanted to defend this title and win his second major of the year and that's still a great-looking season. he said it took a lot out of him that he walked away from the olympics without winning a medal of any color. lost twice there. lost for the bronze against del lost for the bronze against del potro.

bill: novak carried the flag for serbia in the opening ceremony. lost to andy in the semifinals snilings and was beaten by -- singles and was beaten by del potro in the bronze medal match. john: he got one back but is it too little too late at 4-0 down? has he given murray too much of a lead? it certainly looks that way. bill: 4-1. we'll return after this.

clearly here at 4-0 he finally decided look, i have to try to win this set because this is going to be big, big trouble. that's a tough spot to have to come back from, 0-4 against come back from, 0-4 against murray. john: he was upset with his movement there. felt like he was slipping and sliding too much. bill: men's championship of the u.s. open. we're in the second set. almost an hour and a half for the opening set, finally won on the sixth set point by andy murray, looking for his first grand championship. it is murray ahead here in the it is murray ahead here in the second set, up a break.

bill: back to deuce. we mentioned it, last year novak had one of the best years in tennis history. that winning streak that reached 34 matches before he finally lost at roland garros. came into the u.s. open last year with nine titles and a record of 63-2. this year, three titles, all on hard court and 60-10. john: shows you how good he played the previous year when 16-10 seems like a letdown. it's an incredible streak, to hold all four slams at the same time. that's been the toughest part to get over for him, the loss at the french this year.

mary: in that last game his body language looked so much more positive. now he's kind of mopey again. i agree with job, he has got to battle for this second set. create some kind of doubt, at the very least, in murray, who's been able to relax after getting that opening set getting that opening set tie-break. john: that's what happens when you get two breaks down. that is a tall order to make it all the way back and pull it all the way back and pull it off. bill: that stat almost unheard of for novak djokovic. bill: he puts it behind him, holds at love. he is one game away from a two

ball virtually anywhere, as we've seen already. that was a risky play by novak that was a risky play by novak djokovic there. mary: backhand-to-backhand battle is what helped djokovic beat andy murray in the australian open final those last couple of sets.

bill: now it's andy fighting to stay level, stay calm. john: when he saw that djokovic was down mentally, he played properly, conservative tennis to get that double break. but now he's started to get more aggressive here. he can't let novak dictate he can't let novak dictate these points. john: murray just felt something in his leg like a cramp. unbelievable turnaround. how in the world is djokovic still in this set? at 4-0? look at murray grab the leg. that happens at least a couple of times a match so don't take too much importance in that one. more importantly that djokovic has battled back.

that's why the leg starts hurting. bill: 5-5. >> quiet please. >> fault. >> quiet please. john: he's pulling a houdini act here. bill: djokovic clearly seizing control. he's won 13 of the last 16 points, and murray is in a

hole, 0-15. if he's broken here then djokovic can serve to level the match at a set apiece. john: see, he's starting to put more spin on the ball. smart by murray there. mary: some follow-through. bill: stayed with it. mary: a limber boy. john: i don't think that's in the teaching manual.

djokovic can sense as a result international in murray. he's upset he didn't do more with that return. bill: djokovic has talked about the margins between the two being so small. we're certainly seeing that in this championship. this championship. 30-15. bill: and vjada. john: clearly one of the most important factors is how well you can shrug off the bad things that have happened because this has happened to both these guys the first couple of hours of this match.
