replacing it with an islamic banner. [indiscernible] >> reporter: those behind the attacks blame an american film they say ridicules the islamic prophet mohammad. >> they make our people angry because they will kill, they will fight, they will do such a situation. >> reporter: in response the u.s. embassy in egypt issued a statement saying, it condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of muslims. in a statement secretary of state hillary clinton said, let me be clear, there is never any justification for violent acts of this kind. but it was a statement from the embassy in egypt that set off a political firestorm between the obama and romney campaigns. mitt romney responded in a statement saying, it's disgraceful that the obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions but to sympathize with those who wage

the attacks. an obama campaign spokesman responded to romney saying we are shocked that governor romney would choose to launch a political attack. in washington, susan mcginnis, 9news now. >> secretary of state hillary clinton adds, the united states does working with other nations -- is working with other nairgses around the world to -- nations around the world to make sure our embassies and workers are safe. prince george's county police are talking with students and staff, will be this morning at central high school. they're trying to find out if anyone had any problems with 18- year-old marckel ross. the junior was shot and killed yesterday morning as he was walking to school. kristin fisher is live outside central high school with the latest on the investigation this morning. this is so sad, kristin. >> reporter: it's a very sad story. prince george's county police say they still have no suspects and no motive 24 hours after marckel ross was shot and killed while walking down a sidewalk less than a mile away from his high school, central high school.

he was just walking his regular one and a half-mile route to school yesterday morning when he was gunned down. his brooks and school bag were found scattered all over the sidewalk. this 18-year-old was very well known at central high school. he was an honor student. he ran track. he was a member of rotc. he was also a member of a popular modeling club at the school. yesterday prince george's county police cadets scoured every inch of ground for clues while detectives interviewed his friends and teachers and staff at central high school. his family clearly devastated. they say they have hardly any ideas why anybody would want to kill their son. >> he was a kind person. that's all. >> i just want to know why they do it and what made them think about it. >> marckel was a good son, a good child. he was a bright child. he made honor roll every quarter last year. we had been talking about him going to college. >> reporter: the family's only

real theory and this is again coming from marckel's mother, she says she's worried that maybe bullying is to blame. when he first transferred to central high school from anne arundel county back in 2009, she says that he encountered quite a few bullies at the school and even gotten into some fight during the school year last year. but she thought it had calmed down. she notified authorities at the time but thought everything had gotten back to normal and then this happened. prince george's county police will not comment about any of those theories at this point in time. they say they're just that, theories. they say this is still very early on in this investigation but really just another tragic blow for prince george's county public schools. remember, it was just a few short weeks ago that another prince george's county public school student amber stanley was shot and killed in her own bedroom. so really a tough blow here this morning for all of the teachers and staff here at

central high school. back to you, mike. >> our prayers go out to them. kristin fisher is live at central high school this morning in capitol heights, maryland. a d.c. teenager is recovering after being shot overnight. the 16-year-old was found on 37th street at ridge road in southeast at about 1:20 this morning. he is expected to survive. police have not released information on any suspects at this point. montgomery county is pulling more than 300 police cruisers off the street because of steering problems. mechanics at this shop on seven locks road have been working round the clock to make the repairs. in two separate incidents, officers tried to turn the steering wheel on their crown vics got into a potentially dangerous surprise. >> what happened is the steering wheel would just spin, disengage from the steering linkage and the vehicle's tires would go straight and the officer would have to use the brakes to bring the vehicle to a stop. >> no officers were hurt. the crown vics in question are

models 2005 through 2011. other local departments that also use the same models say they have not experienced steering problems. maryland democrats are scrambling for a candidate. they're going to have to support a write-in candidate in a key house race and they why no idea who it is at this point. the candidate will replace wendy rosen as the party's choice. she boughed out this week -- bowed out this week when it became public that she voted in both maryland and florida in 2006 and 2008. there's not enough time to get a new candidate on the ballot. the candidate will face andy harris in november. an american professor brought her sick child into class and breast fed during class. she's now the talk of the campus. professor adrienne pine is a single mother and says she had no other option. she wondered idea breast feeding was such a big deal. the university is not taking disciplinary action but in a

benghazi. >> the ambassador christopher stevens was killed this morning and three other senior diplomatic officials were also killed while trying to evacuate the consulate staff. there was a separate attack on the embassy in cairo, egypt. >> cbs this morning is following the story. gayle king joins us live from new york with a preview. gayle? >> hello, mike and andre ya. we're following that story and we'll have the latest on the deadly violence in libya and the attack on the u.s. embassy in egypt. le "the washington post" bob woodward has been reporting on presidents for four decades. he will be in studio 57 this morning. we'll ask him what the candidates are likely to do if they're elected in november. and dale unhart, junior has a revealing look at his relationship with his father. those stories and more at 7:00. it was just 24 hours ago a maryland high school student was walking to school when he was shot and killed. now police are still looking for the shooter.

everybody likes them, they enter all type of activities and then you have the kids on the side that are smoking the drugs and very unfortunate and those are the ones that come after the other children. that's what i mean. >> i think people are jealous about the popularity. >> reporter: prince george's county police will not comment about any of those theories. they say it is way too early on in this investigation. what they do know is marckel was found dead on the sidewalk, his books and backpack scattered around him. parents here at central high school clearly very concerned this morning, not just because of what happened to marckel but he was the second prince george's county public school student to be shot and killed in less than a month. amber stanley, another prince george's county public school student was shot and killed in her own bedroom just three weeks ago. so parents, teachers, staff very concerned here even though

prince george's county police say they do not believe that these two crimes are related. andrea? >> kristin fisher, thank you. kristin is reporting live at central high school in capitol heights, maryland this morning. the culpeper county medical examiner could tell us later today how a man who recently lost his wife died. gary cook was found in his apartment on friendship way early yesterday morning. his wife patricia was fatally shot seven times by a culpeper police officer last february. the officer daniel are a man- wright has -- harman-wright has pleaded not guilty to the shooting. a judge handed down sentences yesterday following the request of the victims' families. four people were killed in a violent day in 2010. six others were hurt in the mass shooting along south capitol street. you can blow through an electric toll plaza in maryland and there is nothing the state can do about it. cameras along the icc, the

intercounty connector will snap a picture of your license plate and send you a bill but the state admits if you don't pay, your license cannot be suspended and the bill won't even go to a collection agency. hundreds of regular drivers owe thousands of dollars. get this. one rental car company owes more than $200,000. state delegate tom hooker calls that unacceptable. >> people need to know that the state is doing their best to collect from any large commercial vendors who are maybe running a rental car company and are racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and not paying them. >> it wasn't till 2007 that the cameras were installed on all the toll lanes along the dulles toll road and drivers began receiving violations in the mail. 6:36. jessica doyle is chomping at the bit with this money report. >> the iphone 5000 is coming out very soon. gadget geeks are geeks. >> ga is the big -- today is the big day. we've been talking about this

you can trade it in at gamestope for cash. apple will give you a gift card if the phone still has some value. for example, a 32 gig iphone 4s could get you $280 in credit with apple. >> the 4s is the one that just came out last year. >> exactly. if you're replacing it which a lot of people are. >> i like that idea. it is a phone and a phone is a phone so why the hype over this? >> let's look at apple, for example. it is the most valuable company in the united states recently, right? so that's a pretty big deal. as of right now, there's not a single cell phone that has even come close to selling as many iphones as the iphone has. not even close. the major manufacturers out there, they're all in the middle of a turn around so they're not likely to compete really on a huge scale any time soon with revolutionary products. we've seen what's gone on with samsung and apple with the big

lawsuit. but there is iphones out there. there are a lot of people saying this has got to be revolutionary. it has to manifest unicorns for me to run out and stand in line. there are a lot of people holding out. there's a new service called passbook. it's going to be a new coupon service that will be available on the iphone 5, whatever they call it. it will be a little bit bigger. it will run a lot faster on the light service that a lot of cell phone company providers have right now. is that enough? i don't know. >> but with gdp growing, it has to be enough. >> we generally always see apple stock drop after you see the release of the new product. so there's also a little bit of disappointment out there and then it takes a couple of weeks to figure out is this the next big thing. >> but it's a thing that everybody will want in their holiday stocking. they'll keep telling them that that's what they should want. howard says another great day, sunny skies, highs in the

we are funded by organizations, philanthropists and other businesses locally. >> you both are full-time volunteers. i was surprised. i looked at the number of calls that you received just in 2011, something over 300. >> yes. we had '355 calls on our -- we had 355 calls on our toll free hot line. >> i'm going to go to you. tell me what are some of the signs of domestic abuse that one should look for? we'll put up a graphic about that, too. >> each situation is a little bit different but sometimes it's physical which is hitting, punching, hurting the woman. it could be emotional, threatening them or it could be -- a lot of it is isolation. they don't let them contact your family. they don't let you contact friends so you're totally isolated and it's the power over the person. >> so what should one do if they're faced with this situation?

>> if it's an emergency situation and they are being hurt or the children are being hurt, they need to call 911. that's the best route right at the beginning. but if it's more of a situation where they want to get some help and look at other options, then they definitely can call us. asha for women, you can find our number in lots of places. then we will definitely work with them, talk with them, try and help them and see what we can do. >> i think it's worth mentioning again that you both work full-time as volunteers for this organization. you're only funded by donations and grants and you're having a fund-raiser this weekend. tell us about that, priya. >> this is our i think seventh or eighth year doing the fund- raiser. we're very fortunate three years in a row that we've been sponsored. it's going to be at george mason university this saturday at 6:00 p.m. >> all are welcome. we have the information up on our screen. everyone can come. >> yes, absolutely. you can go online at
