killings leaving many to believe he may have acted too soon. >> the trick in a presidential campaign is not to get your foot into something and have the waters change between when you stepped in and when you're ready to make your move. >> reporter: from air force one, president obama called republican congressional leaders john boehner and mitch mcconnell to thank them for not joining romney's attacks. susan mcginnis, cbs news, washington. we're also learning more about the attack on the u.s. consulate building in ben benghazi, libya. every room was torched, vandalized and looted. it was not heavily fortified. the attackers bombed the guard house and then took over the main building and completely destroyed it throwing pieces of furniture into the pool. the raid lasted four and a half hours without any ofthe attackers getting caught or killed. last night the house of representatives approved another temporary spending bill to prevent a government

shutdown. this measure will fund all cabinet agencies at current levels for another six months. the current budget expires september 30. big brother is getting a little bigger in prince george's county. >> ken molestina explains why police are getting ready to set up even more cameras along county roads. >> reporter: to say the traffic cameras aren't popular in prince george's county would be a gross understatement. >> they're there for no reason, just to get personally in people's business or whatever. >> it's getting outrageous. >> i feel as show you're violating my rights. >> reporter: police say those despised cameras are taking more than a verbal beating. they're physically being destroyed. cameras are toppled, shot at and even set on fire. now police will set up new surveillance cameras to keep a closer eye on the cameras keeping a close eye on you. >> i don't like it. >> reporter: like it or not, it's the cops way of protecting

what they consider an investment in public safety. police officials estimate these traffic cameras cost anywhere between $30,000 to $100,000. despite the overwhelming opposition for more cameras, there are a few who think it's a good idea. >> things that do not belong you to, you should leave them alone. i feel it's okay. >> reporter: then there are those who are encouraging the demise of the eyeball above the streets. >> i don't like the speed cameras anyway. if you vandalize them, good for you. >> reporter: just so you know, prince george's county police say they have plans to put about 12 more of these cameras out in the streets within the next few months. in prince george's county, ken molestina, 9news now. >> police continue their search for the person who shot and killed 18-year-old marckel ross. ross was killed tuesday while walking to central high school in capitol heights. last night family and friends gathered for a candlelight memorial at the scene of the shooting. they remembered the teenager as

a wonderful person bursting with love and life. >> he just had a great personality that you loved. he always joked around, danced. he always had a smile on his face. >> he was so sweet. he didn't want to hurt anybody. >> last night police spoke to parents during back-to-school night at central high. they urged anyone with information about the case to come forward and help them catch ross' killer. anyone with information is asked to call crime solvers at 1-866-411-tips. there's a $25,000 reward available. a man who spent the last 11 years on death row in a prince william county murder for hire case is hoping he'll be released today. justin wilkes conviction and death sentence were thrown out by a federal judge who found prosecutors withheld key information and allowed false testimony. he was convicted of killing or being hired to kill owen -- or rather of hiring owen barber to

kill daniel patrol, jr. who was his marijuana supplier. in 2005 barber recanted the testimony and said he had nothing to do with the murder. he said he implicated wolf to avoid the death penalty. >> i don't hold on to the hope, then i don't have anything to grasp on to. i'm going to continue to hope and believe that justice will be served. >> she said her son should have been punished for selling marijuana but spending 11 years on death row was more than enough. today at a bond hearing an attorney will ask for his client to be released. here's a look at some other things making news. pennsylvania's supreme court is debating the state's controversial new voter identification law. it requires voters to show photo i.d. before casting a ballot. opponents of the law claim it unfairly targets the elderly, poor and minorities. the state says it's just a way to protect against voter fraud.

spending. critics warn the bond purchases could raise the risk of higher inflation and stocks, they soared after the fed unveiled the plan. checking the numbers for you. the dow stands this morning at 13,539 after adding 206 points. a gain of about 1.5%. nasdaq was up by 41 and the s&p a00 was better -- 500 was better by 23 points. a judge has blocked the enforcement after new trader law which would require 40,000 federal workers to disclose their transactions on the internet. the judge issued an injunction which prevents the stock act being enforced on federal branch employees till at least november. it was originally applied only for congress and its workers. nintendo getting ready to launch its latest gaming console. the company says it will start at $300 when it goes on sale

november 18. it has a touch screen, more memory and a charging stand. toward detroit. went through chicago. kept them a lot cooler here. behind the front, we've got the cool weather. ahead of it the warm weather where we are today. even though the front is going to come through and will cool us down a little bit over the weekend, it's not going to cool us down a lot as much as the areas well to the north of us, like up near the canadian border. here's our futurecast. nice and sunny. a mix of clouds and sunshine today. maybe a shower down toward norfolk. we get toward this evening, going toward pittsburgh for the weekend, you may run into some showers here by dinner time there. we should be dry. now tonight, that front is going to come across but just not a lot of moisture to work with. other than a stray shower, we'll see the front crossing the region by early tomorrow morning. it will be well south and east of us by dinner time on saturday. look at this. partly to mostly sunny again. as we get into sunday, we should be all right in the morning. but a few clouds are going to be streaming across the area from the west. sunday may not be nearly as pretty sky wise this saturday but it will still be another

still really light. if this is the time when you head out, it's going to be great. no problems to report on 270. as cow down from i-70 in frederick all the way down to clarksburg and the point where the lanes divide, southbound i- 270 at route 121, as i said nice and light. no issues to report. we'll go back over to our maps and this time to the south side of town. 95 northbound again no issues dale city to woodbridge across the river into springfield. the construction it the beltway and lorton should now be cleared up on the southbound side of 95. a quick look at the 14th street bridge. also nice and light the length of 395. i'll be back with more traffic at 4:55. but first i want to let you know you can expect up to 20 minutes of delays on several metro lines this weekend. the green line's greenbelt station will be closed and shuttle buses will be in service around the station. there will also be sections where trains will use a single tack on the red, orange and blue lines. the work is all slated to begin tonight at 10:00. and more than three years after the 2009 metro tragedy at fort

totten, the faulty electronic train detection system at the root of the crash has finally been fixed according to the national transportation safety board. the nbtsz checked five items off its safety recommend decision list but there's still a dozen to go. back to you. >> thanks, monika. later today, virginia's board of health is set to vote on new regulations for abortion clinics. in june the board went against the attorney general ken cuccinelli and removed a provision from regulations which would have required clinics to meet the same building standards as new hospitals. cuccinelli responded by refusing to certify those regulations saying the board overstepped its authority. the worst of the west nile virus outbreak may be over. health officials expect the number of new cases to start dropping. the centers for disease control says this year's outbreak has been the worst since we first learned about west nile in 1999. as of tuesday, more than 2600 people had gotten sick.

118 died. a few of those deaths were in our area. there's new hope for people with brain injuries. researchers used a newerral implant to -- neural implant to restore brain function in monkeys, including decision- making processes. it's a key step on the road to helping people who suffer brain- related illnesses. and researchers say they've discovered genetic evidence of a link between cholesterol and cancer. the findings from the university of rochester medical center raised the possibility that cholesterol lowering staten drugs could some day be used to fight cancer. recent studies suggested people who take staten may reduce their cancer research but doctors say more research is needed. new york city is cracking down on sugary drinks. the city's board of health voted to ban the sale of any sugar sweetened drink larger than 16 ounces in restaurants and some other venues. health officials say it's a crackdown on a major cause of

obesity. it's expected to draw protests from the soda industry. the new law goes into effect in march. most if not all of us enjoy good milk shakes from time to time. most if not all of us enjoy a beer from time to time. so why not combine the two? >> what an idea. the restaurant chain red robin has decided to do that. combine two of the country's most beloved beverages. derek mcginty and topper shutt accepted the challenge of tasting the new beer shake. >> so you say you love beer but sometimes you just are in the mood foe a milk shake and you -- for a milk shake and you think you have to make a choice. no longer. the folks at red robin have come up with something called a beer shake. not the kind of shake you get when you don't have enough beer. this is eeon and jessica from red robin and they'll show us the beer shake. sounds like a contradiction in terms but it's not. >> it's not. we're going to add a little bit of soft serve first.

welcome back. your weather first at 4:55 on this friday morning. we have a good looking day now. a mix of clouds and sunshine. more sun than clouds i do believe with 74 by 11:00. maybe another dry, pleasant day. 79 at 1:00. we're going into the 80s, the low #s on. we may get -- low 80s. we may get to 84, 58 in a couple of -- 85 in a couple spots. the weekend is looking good. details coming up during 9news now at 5:00 a.m. right now here's monika with timesaver traffic. a few people out and about at shady grove road but nothing to worry about as you head to the point where the lanes divide and across the american legion bridge into highsons. the senate has -- tysons. the senate has approved a resolution to remove abolitionist from the state capitol. d.c. statues of douglas are housed at one judiciary square.

advocates for the district have long pushed for the statues to be moved to the capitol. the resolution now awaits presidential approval. douglas will become the third african-american depicted in a statue there. yesterday the national cathedral was overflowing with people who came to say goodbye to neil armstrong. the first man to walk on the moon. armstrong passed away last month after complications from heart surgery. he was 82 years old. he will be buried at sea later today. it will happen somewhere in the atlantic. mgm resorts is rolling out the red carpet to visitors at national harbor. the resort chain opened an information center there yesterday. local politicians took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. mgm says its goal is to introduce visitors to the mgm brand and vision and if the company gets its way a luxury casino. maryland residents will vote on the gambling referendum in november. taylor swift fans blocked
