what they consider an investment in public safety. police officials estimate these traffic cameras cost anywhere between $30,000 to $100,000. despite the overwhelming opposition for more cameras, there are a few who think it's a good idea. >> things that do not belong you to, you should leave them alone. i feel it's okay. >> reporter: then there are those who are encouraging the demise of the eyeball above the streets. >> i don't like the speed cameras anyway. if you vandalize them, good for you. >> reporter: just so you know, prince george's county police say they have plans to put about 12 more of these cameras out in the streets within the next few months. in prince george's county, ken molestina, 9news now. >> police continue their search for the person who shot and killed 18-year-old marckel ross. ross was killed tuesday while walking to central high school in capitol heights. last night family and friends gathered for a candlelight memorial at the scene of the shooting. they remembered the teenager as

a wonderful person bursting with love and life. >> he just had a great personality that you loved. he always joked around, danced. he always had a smile on his face. >> he was so sweet. he didn't want to hurt anybody. >> last night police spoke to parents during back-to-school night at central high. they urged anyone with information about the case to come forward and help them catch ross' killer. anyone with information is asked to call crime solvers at 1-866-411-tips. there's a $25,000 reward available. a man who spent the last 11 years on death row in a prince william county murder for hire case is hoping he'll be released today. justin wilkes conviction and death sentence were thrown out by a federal judge who found prosecutors withheld key information and allowed false testimony. he was convicted of killing or being hired to kill owen -- or rather of hiring owen barber to

kill daniel patrol, jr. who was his marijuana supplier. in 2005 barber recanted the testimony and said he had nothing to do with the murder. he said he implicated wolf to avoid the death penalty. >> i don't hold on to the hope, then i don't have anything to grasp on to. i'm going to continue to hope and believe that justice will be served. >> she said her son should have been punished for selling marijuana but spending 11 years on death row was more than enough. today at a bond hearing an attorney will ask for his client to be released. here's a look at some other things making news. pennsylvania's supreme court is debating the state's controversial new voter identification law. it requires voters to show photo i.d. before casting a ballot. opponents of the law claim it unfairly targets the elderly, poor and minorities. the state says it's just a way to protect against voter fraud.

totten, the faulty electronic train detection system at the root of the crash has finally been fixed according to the national transportation safety board. the nbtsz checked five items off its safety recommend decision list but there's still a dozen to go. back to you. >> thanks, monika. later today, virginia's board of health is set to vote on new regulations for abortion clinics. in june the board went against the attorney general ken cuccinelli and removed a provision from regulations which would have required clinics to meet the same building standards as new hospitals. cuccinelli responded by refusing to certify those regulations saying the board overstepped its authority. the worst of the west nile virus outbreak may be over. health officials expect the number of new cases to start dropping. the centers for disease control says this year's outbreak has been the worst since we first learned about west nile in 1999. as of tuesday, more than 2600 people had gotten sick.

118 died. a few of those deaths were in our area. there's new hope for people with brain injuries. researchers used a newerral implant to -- neural implant to restore brain function in monkeys, including decision- making processes. it's a key step on the road to helping people who suffer brain- related illnesses. and researchers say they've discovered genetic evidence of a link between cholesterol and cancer. the findings from the university of rochester medical center raised the possibility that cholesterol lowering staten drugs could some day be used to fight cancer. recent studies suggested people who take staten may reduce their cancer research but doctors say more research is needed. new york city is cracking down on sugary drinks. the city's board of health voted to ban the sale of any sugar sweetened drink larger than 16 ounces in restaurants and some other venues. health officials say it's a crackdown on a major cause of

advocates for the district have long pushed for the statues to be moved to the capitol. the resolution now awaits presidential approval. douglas will become the third african-american depicted in a statue there. yesterday the national cathedral was overflowing with people who came to say goodbye to neil armstrong. the first man to walk on the moon. armstrong passed away last month after complications from heart surgery. he was 82 years old. he will be buried at sea later today. it will happen somewhere in the atlantic. mgm resorts is rolling out the red carpet to visitors at national harbor. the resort chain opened an information center there yesterday. local politicians took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. mgm says its goal is to introduce visitors to the mgm brand and vision and if the company gets its way a luxury casino. maryland residents will vote on the gambling referendum in november. taylor swift fans blocked
