identified as 29-year-old leon traille. he has been charged with reckless endangerment and malicious body injury by jus of fire and also the -- use of fire and also the use of a fire bomb. 9news now has exclusive video of his arrest yesterday. police closed the mall yesterday after a flammable liquid was thrown from above onto the mall food court. it failed to ignite and no one was injured. a 9news now crew is on its way to the arlington courthouse. we will have further details today on our website, wusa9.com, and of course on our evening's newscast. well, there were problems on the beltway this morning. there were two separate accidents involving tractor- trailers on the inner loop at bethesda. traffic was blocked for several miles and both directions for several hours while crews worked to clear the cident scenes from fuel. the vehicles finally started moving again around 7:45 this

in the 2010 beating of a university of maryland student. reginald baker and james harrison have been charged with second degree assault and misconduct. the beating was caught on tape as sunts -- students at the university of maryland celebrated a basketball win over duke. the video shows officers using their batons to hit john mckenna while he was on the ground. harrison took the stand yesterday, he said mckenna punched another officer and refused to drop an object in his hand. that object turned out to be a cell phone. the pakistani girl shot by the taliban is able to stand for the very first time. but doctors in england said that she still has a long way the go on her road to recovery. charlie d'agata reports now from birmingham, england. >> reporter: british doctors released this photo of malala yousufzai ten days after the taliban put a bullet in her head and tried to assassinate

her. doctors say the 15-year-old is out of a coma and on her feet. >> she's doing very well in fact. she was standing with some help for the first time this morning. >> reporter: doctors say she remembers being on her school bus in pakistan, then waking up in a hospital in a foreign country. >> one of the first things she asked to know was which country was she in. >> reporter: doctors say she has some damage to her brain and her injuries suggest she was shot from above at point- blank range. >> she was struck around here, just above the back of the left eye. and the bullet went down through the side of her jaw, damaging the skull. >> reporter: direct examination say it thereby at least -- doctors say it will be at least a couple of weeks before they can start rebuilding skull. first they have to deal with the infection from the bullet that came within inches of killing her. a group of pakistani women lit candles in birmingham to support her and women's rights. >> gir like she live in fear every single day. afraid of the taliban.

then slammed into a pole. police have just wrapped up a news conference, our bruce leshan joins us live with the latest information. bruce? >> reporter: yeah, j. c., we are just learning now for the first time what caused this crash. what police below caused this -- believed caused this crash. now officer bowden collided with the driver of an suv there at branch avenue at surratts road and according to police, the female driver of that suv was initially in the left lane and for some inexplicable reason at this point, she crossed several lanes of traffic and ran into the officer. and that, chief magaw says is what caused this crash. but, he also said that the officer did some things wrong. >> we are look into all factors involved in this crash. including speed and based on the physical evidence on the scene, it appears that the

late eunice shriver and also the daughter of anthony shriver who was the founder and the chair of best buddies international. this is an organization dedicated to helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. and you're inviting everyone to go on a special ride. there's a best buddies challenge. it's being held tomorrow. tell me about it. >> well, it's -- there's three parts to the event tomorrow. there's a run, a walk, and a bike ride. can the bike ride is 100-mile -- and the bike ride is 100 miles is. the iraq and the run -- and the walk and the run are 5 k and they start at the same time. you can see the whole thing but tomorrow i happen to be doing the ride with my dad 20 miles. so that should be fun. >> is that so? where should people show up? tomorrow? do they go down to the mall? >> yeah, the mall is where it starts and -- >> what time? >> it starts at 7:00. but the walk and the run start at 8:15. >> okay. all right. >> you can come out and support everyone then.

>> all right. we do hope so. you know, your family has been so involved with people who have developmental disabilities and this organization is special to you because you have a buddy. tell me a little bit about your buddy. >> i do, his name is lucas. he just moved this time recently to seattle. but i met him at a volunteer -- university of miami actually a day care center there. and i started in a room and it didn't really work out for me too well and i moved to another room. and there were other kids there in the room. like five other kids with down's syndrome and we just connected really well and we played a lot together and he would always come for me when i got the school. then i contacted his parents and we just started hanging out. we went to the park a lot. >> you're like a big sister to him and i want to let the viewers know they can become a best buddy. i'll put it on jchayward.com a link and if you'd like to be a best buddy and i encourage you to do so, get in touch with the

turn more westerly overnight. heavy showers and storms this morning. especially south and east of town, there they go up in the new york area. northern new jersey and the low clouds hanging you the back to the west. but -- tough back to the west. but they are starting the break up a little bit. look the green, these are dew points in the mid- and upper 60s. you get over the continental divide and the do you knows drop into the -- dew points drop into the upper and middle 40s. so i'm looking forward to this weekend. should be nice out there. still only 59 with the cloud cover and winchester. but on the other side of the equation with the sun out, we're 73 at tappahannock. 72 easton and annapolis. 62 gaithersburg. still cloudy and here in d.c. just starting to see some of the clouds break up. still mostly cloudy, temperatures 69 degrees with a south wind at 8. that's going to help eat up the clouds and humidity 84% and that barometer is going to be rising. a better afternoon and some of

female chefs. it's very difficult. it was at one time. it's even still difficult today for women to enter into the profession. why did you decide to do this book? >> i felt that any time people talked about women chefs it was usually sort of in a negative where did they all go? why aren't they succeeding the way men are succeeding? it's not to say it isn't tough because it is but there are more women out there than people realize that are killing it. i wanted to talk to them about being chefs that happen to be women than to do a book that was once again the whole women complaining about -- >> not having it so difficult. well you know now with all the food shows that are on television, we see women in the profession. so that's a positive. >> it is although i think it's a little -- it's a little mixed because you tend to see more women being represented as professional home cooks whereas the men often are the ones that get presented as the

professional chefs and restaurants. i see. >> it can be a little bit skewed for women who are actual restaurant chefs. >> okay. now you -- write about chefs all the type. have you ever thought about becoming a chef? >> i love to cook. and i think i'm pretty decent at it. but i'm a huge klutz. i am an accident prone bone breaking klutz. and it occurred to me at some point that that was probably not the best place for me because you really need to have a lot of physical stamina. and i don't think that's a gender thing. just some people are less sieve than others and you really do need to have that -- that confidence of physical presence to be able to hack it in that kitchen space. >> one of my favorite, favorite, favorite -- i won't say chefs but owners was ruth fortell. she unfortunately died but she founded ruth's chris steak house. it's a -- ruth with apostrow fee s. and i love her story and now i understand that her son

has written a book about her. >> yeah. and it's -- it's really extraordinary because you find out who she was as a person. i mean we know who she is as a restaurantture and we have her restaurants you know as some kind of reminder of that. but it opportunitied out she was quite the target -- turned out she was quite the character. he talked about her building her mausoleum before she died but there are not as many -- there are a lot of women chefs out there and there are a lot of women chef owners of a single restaurant. but to see a women with an empire restaurant that's still extremely rare and i think it would be nice. >> the name of the book is "skirt steak." women chefs on standing the heat and staying in the kitchen. and that's what you've got to do. be sure and get a copy of charlotte druckman's book, it's very interesting and it shows you the kind of stamina and
